Epilogue
"Keith you ready?" Krolia knocked on her sons door. Keith stood in the mirror making a face as he tied his hair in a low ponytail with his bangs falling in his face like usual, wearing his black jeans and a black dress shirt looking at his messed up red tie.
"I can't do it," Keith mumbled as he turned to her.
"Your going to have to learn some time," krolia walked over and fixed his tie and straightened it out. She smiled softly looking down at her son gently.
"I want to go first, I want to talk to him," Keith pursed his lips looking back at her.
"Of course, we should go now before we're late," krolia nodded pursing her lips.
"Don't go knocking my fucking plants over again," Keith looked at the red tabby cat sleeping curled up on his bed in the sun, she looked up and meowed at the two and Keith scratched behind her ear.
"I mean it red," Keith hissed sarcastically smirking at her.
"Your procrastinating," krolia smiled crossing her arm. "Let's get going,"
Keith stood up and nodded. "Okay mom..."
——
Krolia stood against the car as she let keith go ahead. It was noon as the sun shined brightly as keith walked through the grass and headed straight towards a specific grave in the cemetery.
"Hey you," Keith let out a small breath looking down at a grave.
"Guess what, I did it," he gulped and smiled softly.
"I finished high school, I'm graduating today," Keith shoved his hands in his pockets letting out a deep breath looking up at the sky enjoying the breeze.
"And I have a plan, like you wanted, I'm going to college, thanks to you... and some other people, but I can't let them take your credit," he chuckled shaking his head.
"I wish you were here, I'm not going to say you'd be proud of me because I already know you are, you've always been proud of me, but I really wish you were here to see me graduate, help me get an apartment, I just wish you were here to see me get this far," Keith looked back at the grave and crouched down a little as he set a peach color rose on top of the grave.
"I miss you a lot, I really do... holy fuck, I'm graduating, I really wish you could see me now, mom has that gown shit and everything in the car, wants to hang my diploma too, weird, we could make fun of her for it, damn," Keith laughed softly shaking his head as he stared at the grave as if they were staring back with that proud gaze in his eyes.
"You'd be proud of me dad," he smiled standing up. "But I'm glad moms here to see me too, makes me feel less alone,"
Keith felt his phone starting to ring and answered rolling his eyes with a smirk.
"Yo were are you?!"
"I'll be there in ten you idiot," Keith groaned turning to his mom as she was walking over.
"You said you where on your way, baby your cutting it close!" Lance whined from the other end of the phone.
"Stop whining, your acting like a girl," Keith snorted as krolia quirked a brow now near him.
"Well I'm sorry for wanting us to loook nice for the pictures," Lance huffed.
"I'm coming I'm just saying bye now," Keith rolled his eyes.
"Ugh fine, love you," lance groaned making Keith giggled.
"Love you too dummy, bye," Keith smiled hanging up as he shrugged at his mother.
"Lance wants us there sooner than later I guess," Keith told her.
"He's not wrong," krolia chuckled.
"I'll meet you at the car," Keith nodded and she smiled agreeing but looked st her husbands grave next.
"Thank you, for doing such a great job with our boy, I'm sorry I left you alone to do it for so long, but I'll finish what you started my love," krolia set a red rose on the grave next to Keith's peach one. She pressed a kiss to her finger tips and touched the grave gently.
"Our son is graduating, you did it Tex, if he didn't have you he probably wouldn't, I see so much of you in him," krolia laughed nodding.
"Your going to miss so much, but he's not doing it alone anymore my love, and you won't be forgotten," she sighed smiling, she walked away as keith was pulling on a dark grey graduation gown. The boys had to wear dark grey as girls get to wear a dark purple, he was grateful for that.
——
There was a sea of students in purple and grey gown and caps as the principle was giving a speech to all about the senior class, people listened as some didn't and just wanted their names called. Some were crying as others where practically bouncing to get out with a piece of paper to show the world that they did it.
Keith stood next to lance in the crowd as lance listened to the speech happily and their hands gripped each other's tightly.
Lance was fully healed from the car accident eight months ago, after being in a three week coma, going back to school as soon as he could. And Keith was there with him the whole time, from the moment he woke up keith was holding his hand, he helped him get back to his feet. There were tears and yelling as the two held onto each other tightly and full of relief.
And today they were graduating together.
Matt stood next to keith basically bouncing, hunk stood next to lance almost crying. And behind them was shiro, keith glanced behind him to look at his ex's for a moment but they locked in eye contact. Shiro smiled proudly at him. Keith nodded smiling back. Adam stood with shiro waiting for his name to be called. In the distance there was a crowd of McClain family from Cuba itself, along with all of lances siblings, aunts, uncles, Abuela. Abuela waved to lance smiling happily and waved at keith as well when she saw him next.
There was no more tension with Keith and lances relationship and those who didn't 'agree' with it, eight months ago John went back to jail. Lance knew he'd have to face his father again when he gets out, he didn't know how many years or even months, he didn't care either. It didn't matter. It didn't matter because they where happy. They where growing up.
"Shay Balmera,"
"Lotor Daibazaal,"
"Hunk Garrett,"
"Mathew Holt,"
"Keith kogane,"
Keith felt his breath stop as lance nudged him a little happily to get keith moving. He was truly going to graduate. Seemed like yesterday that graduating high school seemed like forever within four years, but today he was going to do it.
Keith walked up to the stage to get that damn piece of paper with a determined smirk on his face.
"Lance McClain,"
Keith smiled brightly clapping for his boyfriend.
"Takashi Shirogane,"
"Adam Wyatt,"
As the names narrowed down to the 'Z's people got more jittery as the end was coming sooner and sooner.
"With this pride in me of every year seeing students I've known from freshmen now as seniors to graduate today, I hope to you all the very best for your future from here on now," the principle smiled nodding and everyone erupted into cheers standing up.
The student all jumped and lance threw off his cap along with the others in the student body as he grabbed Keith and kissed him deeply while Keith pulled his cap off his head and threw it up smiling as he kissed lance deeply wrapping one arm around his neck.
"We did it!" Lance squealed.
"Yea we did," Keith smiled kissing him again.
"Now what?" He chuckled as lance looked down at him.
"I don't care, I'm with you amor," lance spun him around and brought Keith back to kiss him with pure joy.
"As long as I get to slow dance with you," Keith winked up at him.
The end.
