Prologue

~~~8 years earlier~~~
"Techno, son, please," Philza said to the newly made vampire, "It was the only way I could save you."
"Maybe you could have done it without making me into a monster," The man growled, "let me die and maybe become an angel like you. What else did you do?"
He hesitated to tell Techno, he had made a deal with a vampire meaning that he couldn't go back. The painful process of becoming a fallen angel had already started, but he couldn't let his son know how much pain he was actually in.
"That's what I thought," He growled before turning into a bat and flying away to the castle looming in the distance.
Phil sighed, Techno could be so stubborn at times, correction all the time. He knew all the creatures Techno could have become at death, but he didn't want to risk another Wilbur, he had the misfortune of becoming a ghost instead of an angel or demon.
"Dad," small 8 year old Tommy came running out of the woods, the young demon boy had died just a year earlier, a much better fate than becoming a ghost seen as demons and angels still aged after death, "Come here, come here." He leaned back, pulling on his dad's hand to get him to move.
"Okay, I'm coming," Phil said, letting the boy lead him to a tall tree and pointed up.
"He's stuck," Tommy said, and up on the highest branches was a small boy who couldn't be no older than Tommy with light brown hair and white angel wings. The kid clung to the branch, afraid that if he let go he would fall.
"What's your name," Phil called to him, but he just whimpered and held tighter to the tree.
"Tubbo," Tommy answered for him.
"Tubbo, is it okay if I come up there," Phil called, but he quickly shook his head, "What if Tommy comes up?" Tubbo glanced at him before nodding. Seeing that as his cue Tommy niblely climbed up the tree, swinging from one limb to another, eventually having to use his claws to keep a hold of the tree.
"Woah, this is high, no wonder you're scared," Tommy chuckled and Tubbo smiled at him, "don't worry, that's my dad down there. He can fly up here and easily help you down. He's an angel like you."
"What are you then," Tubbo finally spoke.
"I'm a demon, my brother, Wilbur, got turned into a ghost when he died," He looked over in the distance, "I don't know where Techno is, he's supposed to have reincarnated by now. But I kinda wish he were still human, he was the best warrior there is."
"I fell from a tree," tears gathered in Tubbo's eyes, "I don't want it to happen again." Tommy's tail drooped, so that's why, it was natural to be afraid of how you died, but Tubbo probably had the worst fear for someone who could fly.
"Hey, I'll make sure you never fall from a tree ever again." Tommy promised, then raised his hand in the air with the other one on his chest, "Demon's oath."
"You mean it," Tubbo asked.
"For sure," Tommy put his hands back on the branch in front of him to make sure he wouldn't fall himself, "now can I get my dad?"
"Yeah," Tubbo said.
"Cool, we'll get you down in no time," Tommy looped his tail around the branch and swung upside down, he cupped his now free hands around his mouth as a megaphone, "Come on up, Dad!"
Philza spread his wings that had started to visually show gray and his halo had dimmed, the yellow almost no longer visible. He hid a wince as he flew up to them, he hovered for a second before landing on a thicker branch just below them.
"Tubbo, just jump down to me," Phil held his arms out, "I'll catch you."
Tubbo glanced at Tommy who nodded, and was seriously considering jumping to Phil to see if he would catch him as well. Tubbo slowly unlatched his arms from the trunk, he then slowly slid off the branch and closed his eyes in fear, just to find himself in Philza's arms. Phil slowly flew down to not scare Tubbo even more, Tommy followed them, leaping down from branch to branch.
"Hey Dad, where's Techno," Tommy asked, "Did he become a demon like me or an angel like you?"
"Why are your wings gray," Tubbo asked as he stood up on the ground.
"I'll tell you later," Phil told Tommy, who knew exactly what gray wings meant and was about to ask if he was alright, "when did you get here Tubbo?"
"Where exactly is here," Tubbo asked, he just now realized that this didn't look like his family's backyard, "when can I go back home?"
"Oh," was all Tommy said, today had been Tubbo's death day.
The Overworld
Metal clashed in the royal courtyard as the two teens sparred. The younger blond held two daggers and fought with fluid motions that easily could adapt to the opponents attacks. The black haired one with tan skin held a standard broadsword all the guards used, still not having chosen a signature weapon. His fighting style was sloppier and his inexperience showed.
"So have you found out yet," the blond asked as he spun past the sword swing.
"What exactly," He asked as he pulled the sword from the ground and whipped sweat from his forehead, "a lot has happened this week."
"Come on, you're 16 in a week and the entire kingdom knows that you haven't been claimed yet," he sheathed the daggers and took the sword from the other boy.
"Oh, yeah, that," he sat on the brick wall and took a swig of water from the wooden bottle, "Nope, you know you'd be the first one to know, Clay. But what about you, mister big shot warrior?"
"I get my suit and assassin name in a few days," Clay leaned against the bricks, "Then I wait for my first mission."
"How do you do it," The question had been on his mind for weeks, ever since Clay's big test, the moment he proved myself, "I know they're our enemies, but how do you just kill people like that?"
"What don't you understand, Sapnap," Clay said, "They're not people, or human!"
"But they were! Clay, they were human once, so were the angels we secretly work with," Sapnap said, "You know what we're done today, go back to that weird cult you work with that hunt down the vampires."
"Okay, just because you're the famous demigod royal doesn't mean you get to boss me around," Clay threw his hand in the air, "but alright, go ahead and train yourself."
"Technically yeah, I can," Sapnap said, "My father may have selected you to be my warrior mentor but one of the guards can easily fill in for today. But I should probably study for my next mentoring session anyway."
"Fine by me, but one day you're going to be leading on the battlefield, you won't have time to worry about the fact they used to be human," Clay said, "Which mentor do you have today?"
"He's new, a satyr named George," Sapnap explained, "my last mentor was called onto the demon front to aid them. Well that's at least what my father told me. He's my new history and myths teacher."
"Well, um, I should go, I do have my own training to do anyway," Clay ran off, mainly to avoid any more questions about his rite of passage to becoming a fully fledged assassin. It had been a messy thing, and it didn't happen as soon as Sapnap had thought, it happened almost a year ago.
The league had gotten word of a human family harboring a ghost and Clay had been tasked with killing them. It was the hardest thing he had done, but it was easy to make it look like an accident. When night fell he boarded up the front and back doors and lit a fire in one of the windows. As the cabin was put ablaze he could hear the desperate screams of the poor family, and he still remembered the names they had called out.
A little boy shouting for his dad.
The father calling out two names.
The ghost coming out and trying to open the doors.
And the ghost screaming out for his dad and brother.
Well I hope you guys enjoyed, this chapter was mainly to establish character relationships and how all of them are actually connected. First chapter will take place during present day and add more characters and in the future how Wilbur became Ghostbur
