Chapter 20
Tubbo lay in the sun, laying on the tiles of the tallest castle tower. It was quiet up there and let him think in peace, it also distracted him from the throbbing headache. He hadn't had a headache like this since, well he hadn't had a headache since he was human. Being an angel had its perks, he didn't get sick or have headaches, sure he could still get injured but the pain didn't linger like it would for humans.
"Hi Tubbo," Niki flew up and landed on the tiles next to him, "I thought I was the only one who liked being up here."
"Do I need to go down," He asked, sitting up to face her.
"No, it might be good to have a little company, right," Niki said.
"Yeah, I understand that," Tubbo said, thinking about back when he and Tommy were still kids. They would spend hours in the moonlight talking about their life as humans. He remembered the day Tommy had found out he could read minds. He found the demon high in the trees and miles away from everyone, looking for quiet, they were around 10 when it happened.
"Man, you forget how amazing the sun feels living in the Nether," Tubbo said, sure he had been in the overworld for a few days but it didn't erase the fact he was an angel living somewhere he didn't belong.
"It's cold there, especially at night," Niki chuckled, Quackity had been curious what the Nether was like so she had crossed them over for a few minutes, "but I'm sure having a friend like Tommy was worth it."
"He was," Tubbo said, "but now I've been thinking what my life could have been if Tommy and Phil didn't find me. I'd probably be here, well at King Hypixal's castle, fighting this war. It was insane how little numbers of young angels I saw. The Count has more morals than that!"
"Really," All Niki knew was the war, if she had been a boy she would have been expected to go out on the battlefield, either as a spy or a squier to the soldiers out there, "I was told they were worse."
"Sure the Count was ruthless but the manor was considered a safe haven for any young demons or werewolves," Tubbo explained, "no one under 17 were even allowed on the battlefield, Tommy, Drista, and I were a special case because the potion worked better on younger creatures."
"It's crazy to think that both of our societies thought they were better than the other," Niki said, "but it sounds like the Count treated you better."
"I mean it was the council's decision, but we should know that death gives you a different perspective on things," Tubbo said, hoping he didn't sound too philosophical.
"Yeah, especially at a young age," Niki said, she had thought about it before, that perhaps the king kept sending more humans out, despite the war supposed to be a secret from anyone not involved, in the hope that they will reincarnate as angels, stronger beings than humans.
"Di-did you die young as well," Tubbo asked hesitantly, he knew it would most likely end with her asking him as well, but he couldn't help but be curious.
"I think I was 5," Niki said, just young enough to not remember anything from her human life, "what about you?"
"I was 8," Tubbo said.
"So, Wilbur's nice, I bet he's like a brother to you," Niki said, deciding to change the subject to a lighter one.
"He is, we would always hangout around a fire every night, he loved singing," Tubbo remembered the night not too long ago where he had first heard the song about L'Manburg, the song Tommy helped make.
"I sing as well, but I'm not great," Niki said.
"Maybe Wilbur can teach you, he's self taught after all," Tubbo suggested.
"You know what, I think I'll ask him," Niki stood up and hovered in the air for a second, "Thank you, Tubbo." She then disappeared into the window below them.
Tubbo smiled to himself, he had never had an angel friend before, and Niki was so kind to him, despite the circumstances of their first introduction. He couldn't help but wonder if Tommy would like her as well.
Deep in the mountains below Drista was enjoying herself in the jeweled caverns that were used for mining the kingdom's gold and silver coins. Luminescent crystals hanging from the ceiling dimly lit up the mines, usually there wouldn't be many people down there so she could get her own peace and quiet, and time to think about why Techno would want the throne.
"Lady Drista!" A trio of young boys called out to her, their voices sounded familiar but they didn't match the look of their faces.
"It's us," the orange haired boy said, two fox ears popped up from his head as he let his werefox features show, "I'm Fundy, this is Purpled and Jack."
"You were sent on assignment!" She realized, they grinned and nodded.
"I know why all the vampires retreated a few days ago," Jack said, "I got the message as well but they talked me into staying."
"What message?" She asked then realized it was a stupid question, Drista had heard stories that when the Count first came into power he had telepathically been able to communicate with all the vampires at once to let them know of the change of power. This only confirmed the idea that Technoblade had killed the Count, she wouldn't have gotten the message because she was a threat to his power.
"I heard a voice in my head, calling all vampires back to the manor," Jack said, remembering how persuasive it had been, how much he had wanted to listen.
"Thank you for telling me, this helps alot," Drista was about to run off before realizing that they would probably be confused on who to listen to, "you three now have new orders, I want you to return to the manor and report anything you find out back to me by crow. Whether it be on Technoblade or any of his allies. You are to not reveal my position or your new orders. Do you understand?"
"Yes ma'am, thank you," Fundy said, bowing to her, this is what he needed, this is how he knew she should be in charge, "Countess Drista."
Is it just me or does Countess Drista sound badass? Well there's that, of course next chapter will be Techno and Tommy! Possibly some Philza. Thank you all for reading and please vote and comment!
Peace out YouTubers from around the world!
