It was a drowsy morning in the Minecraft house, only Philza was awake so far. The clouds covered the skies and it was due to rain soon.
A pot of coffee had just begun brewing when the first child had awoken; Tommy. "Dad, I don't want to go to school today." He said tiredly, coming down the stairs and into the kitchen. The thirteen year old boy had been having a tough time at school, and he didn't know what the day had in store for him.
"Good morning, Toms. Why's that?" Phil asked from where he stood in the kitchen, watching the coffee brew into the glass pot. "Kids don't like me," He ruffled his light brown feathers. "They keep picking on me and my wings. Someone even plucked one of my feathers." Phil felt angry as his child spoke shyly, immediately thinking of how he'd call the school.
"I'm sorry, buddy. I'll do my best to get it sorted, okay? And there's nothing wrong with you, alright? I know it's hard being different... but different is beautiful. How many kids at your school can literally fly?" Phil asked with a reassuring smile on his face. "When kids pick on you, you come tell me, or a teacher, yeah?" He said confidently, giving his hybrid son a small side hug when Tommy approached him. "Okay..."
"So how about this, you go to school today and we'll get ice cream afterwards, yeah?" Tommy's eyes lit up at that, and he agreed.
Phil had dealt with this many times before, because their whole family were hybrids. Phil, Tommy and Wilbur had wings, and Techno had pig-like ears and a tail. Phil adored all of his children.
Tommy's brothers— Wilbur and Techno— had woken up by now, and it was time to get ready for school.
~~~
Tommy had a long day at school already, and he was so relieved that it was finally time to eat. What he didn't expect was the amount of bullying kids had brought on today.
Tommy's mind was fixed on how he went flying yesterday, an exhilarating experience that he enjoyed more than people understood. The way his large wings would expand and catch the airwaves, the way he lifted himself from the ground and let his worries melt away... His wings were super special to him, they reminded him of his dad, and he never wished any harm upon any wings. They were such a gift, but kids didn't seem to understand that.
"Ooo there he is— bird brain!" Kids were teasing Tommy relentlessly, and it was getting on his nerves. "Shut up, Travis." Tommy said to the unimportant kid in his class whom stood in front of the trophy case. Tommy just wanted to go to lunch.
"Me shut up? Says the weirdo with weird chicken WINGS!!" He said loudly, making everybody laugh. "I SAID SHUT UP— SHUT UP SHUT UP YOU PIECE OF SHIT..!" Tommy felt enraged as tears filled his eyes— he was beyond ecstatic as he flew as fast as he could towards that boy, making them both collide backwards into the trophy case.
Glass shattered, metal hit the floor, blood was drawn by the shards. Everything was blurry as Tommy attempted to punch the kid, but he didn't realize how hard he hit his head. So, Tommy ended up passing out.
Everyone in the hallway was silent, shocked.
~~~
Now if Tommy hadn't passed out, he would've just been to the nurses office, but it's a different story when you hit your head that far.
He woke up with a start, his eyes unable to focus as his breath hitched in his throat. "Woah woah, it's okay Toms, we're here, you're okay." Wilbur did his best to soothe Tommy as he sat next to his hospital bed. It hurt to see his brother with so many bandages and injuries, and Wilbur wished that he went to the same school as Tommy... But unfortunately the two older brothers were in high school, Tommy in middle.
"Where am I-?" Tommy asked, hazily meeting Wilbur's eyes. Gently taking his hand, Wilbur tried to ground his brother. "You're in the hospital... Apparently you pumbled a kid pretty hard— right into a trophy case that shattered. You blacked out so you needed immediate medical attention." He explained quietly.
Tommy hadn't even rendered the pain yet, seeing how he was probably jacked up on painkillers and medications. "Oh..." Was all he said before laying his head back down on the pillow. "Where's dad—?" As if on cue, Phil walked in with some papers. "Hey Tommy, I'm glad that you're awake. The doctor said we're all good to take you home in a few minutes."
That car ride wasn't enjoyable at all. Tommy almost threw up, Wilbur nearly had a meltdown, and Techno was complaining about having the windows down too much. Why couldn't everyone just catch a break??"
Once inside, Tommy was able to lay on the couch. "Okay Toms, You have a concussion. So we're gonna take it easy, alright?" Phil said, bringing the boy his needed medicine and some water.
"I'm sorry." Tommy said, begging to cry. "Hey, hey, It's gonna be okay, alright? We'll talk about it more when you feel better. I want you to not worry much about it right now, you're not in trouble." Phil reassured, and that's when Wilbur came in carrying bowls of ice cream, followed suit by Techno who had a bucket and a book— the bucket was in case Tommy felt sick again.
"Hey guys— What's all this?" Tommy asked, squinting as the lights were turned off. "We're here to spend time with you!" Wilbur said, handing Tommy his bowl of ice cream. He finally got his ice cream!
And with that, the boys sat in the living room and read a book together. Techno had a small light that wouldn't hurt Tommy's eyes, so the room stayed nice and dark for him.
They had a nice night from then on, the school situation had been handled by Phil, and Tommy was relieved that he wouldn't have to go to school until his concussion was healed.
