{Chapter 44}
"Clarity are you having a good time?" Amelia said as she sat down next to me fanning herself.
The moment the Dj began to play more hyper and fun music, everyone ran to the dance floor dancing with their friends without a care in the world. Lia and her group assembled together and became the center. of attention without even meaning to. It wasn't much of a surprise to me because they all looked so beautiful in their attire.
"Yeah I'm having a pretty good time, I'm not much of a dancer so I'm not planning on going to the dance floor," I chuckled as Amelia looked at me with a bored expression.
"You have to make the most of tonight! No matter how avant-garde your moves are you have to show them off! Show everyone just how graceful a butterfly moves with the wind," She said playfully as she fluttered as her hands as if they were butterfly wings.
"Well what about you? Why aren't you up there?" I questioned.
"Oh I was! Justin and I were tearing it up on the dance floor but I have to take a break or I'll die from exhaustion, he's such good fun to be around," She smiled warmly, twirling her hair between her fingers.
"I never would have imagined you are Justin actually having a good time together, you guys seem so completely different. I honestly thought you and Damien were going to be together for a long time," I admitted.
"The world works in curious ways doesn't it? It pulls you away from those who will do more harm than good to you even if you don't see it, you may think that person will be in your life forever and that nothing could go wrong but fate has something set differently, it things in someone completely knew that you've paid no mind to and they open your eyes to a whole other world. It's just so fascinating," She whispered the last part to herself as she smiled bubbly to herself.
Amelia's outlook on life was so different and normally so hard to understand but tonight I understood every word she was saying because I as concerned that related to Lia and I, I didn't want her to disappear from my life and nor did I want to disappear from hers.
"Looks like someone is coming to sweep you off your feet," Amelia said as she nodded behind me.
I turned around to see Lia barefoot and briskly walking towards our table.
"Why are you sitting down dork, come and dance with me," Lia said as she grabbed my hand.
"I can't I'm keeping Amelia company," I whined.
Amelia jumped up on her toes as she wagged her finger at me and shook her head.
"No no you aren't allowed to use me as an excuse, now go out and have fun!" Amelia said before running back to the dance floor to find Justin.
"No excuses," I heard Lia said as she yanked on my arm, pulling me towards the dance floor. We walked up to Alex, Asha, Abigail and Maddy all dancing and laughing with each other which made me nervous.
"What if they made fun of me because I wasn't good at dancing? I was never the type to go to parties so I never knew what an appropriate dance was for this type of environment.
"Stop overthinking it, just imagine only us two here," Lia whispered in my ear causing a pleasant chill to go down my spine.
I turned around to face her as she grabbed a hold of my hands and began to force my body to do some type of movement. I looked intensely into her warm grey eyes, a warmth I haven't seen from her in a while, she smiled at me as my motions became more loose and relaxed as I tried to imagine only us on the dance floor. We laughed with each other at our ridiculous dance moves, I, no longer caring who was around watching me because all that mattered was that Lia was watching me. She was watching me with a grin on her face and a warmth in her heart, something that I wanted to stay with her forever, I never wanted another dark day for her, I never wanted restless nights along with tired eyes for her.
All I wanted was this Lia.
In order for this Lia to stay, there had to be some change and where there was change, there was healing.
"Do you guys want something to drink?!" Alex shouted over the music as he walked over.
We nodded our heads as we all walked away from the crowd and sat down at the table that everyone was not sitting at, fanning themselves.
"Wow it got hot in here so fast," Maddy moaned as she fanned herself with her hand.
"There's too many people in here, I didn't think this many people in our class would actually go to prom," Asha laughed as she sat back in her seat.
Her usual curly hair was now flattened straight past her shoulders, she was wearing a gold prom dress that pooled at her feet so you could barely see her feet. It was a more looser fitted prom dress that was perfectly fitted to her waist and strapless so you could see her entire back. Her makeup was a dark smoky eye look that made her hazel eyes pop more.
She was definitely beautiful.
"Hey Asha?" I asked.
Both Asha and Lia looked over at me with curious expressions.
"You look really beautiful tonight and I've always thought your naturally curly hair was always pretty," I said as I looked down not daring to look her in her eyes.
"Wow, thank you Clarity, never thought I would hear that from you," Asha said excitedly.
I looked up to see her slightly blushing a she stared at me with such admiration in her eyes.
I felt Lia's hand grab my thigh as she pulled me closer, leaning into the crook of my neck, her warm breath tickled my skin.
"Trying to make me jealous with your flirting?" I felt her chuckle into my ear.
"I'm not trying to make you jealous, I'm just being friendly," I mumbled.
I felt her sigh with contentment into the crook of my neck as she continued to rub my thigh up and down, causing a stir in my stomach.
"Ladies and gentleman I hope everyone is having a wonderful time today! You should have grabbed a slip on your way in to vote for prom royalty in your class!" The principal announced.
"Did you guys all vote?" Alex asked all of us at the table as he leaned forward.
I couldn't concentrate, the moment I felt Lia's wet tongue touch my skin I could no longer think, I couldn't even remember where I was. So this was Lia's charm, I always wondered why so many girls were so enchanted with her, why some of them could never leave her alone.
Something I would find out tonight.
"Earth to Lia and Clarity, make out on your own time lesbians," Maddy said as she snapped her fingers at us. Lia raised her head from the crook of my neck to stare at Maddy with a bored expression and then rested her head on my shoulders.
"Jealousy isn't a good accessory for you Maddy, try a necklace or something next time," Lia winked as she lightly chuckled.
"Eat a dick Lia," Maddy huffed.
"Sounds unpleasant, I think I'll pass" She shrugged her shoulders.
"SO.DID.YOU.GUYS.ALL.VOTE??" Alex asked a little more assertive with his tone.
"Yes, I noticed Lia was on the ballot so I voted for Lia," Asha said warmly.
"Why the fuck am I on the ballot?" Lia groaned against my shoulder.
I totally forgot about prom royalty, I just figured one of the more known people in the school would end up prom royalty but then I remembered the two most important people I know are in fact a part of the well known group of kids.
"Alex was on the ballot too, Damien too but he ended up not coming to prom," Maddy shrugged her shoulders.
"Why not?" I asked.
"He never cared for prom, he never seemed interested in coming anyway," She explained.
"In a few moments I will be announcing this class's prom royalty!" The principal continued as excited murmurs began to fill the room.
"It will probably be Maddy, I'm pretty sure people like her," Lia said as she yawned.
"No they don't she's a bitch," Justin came trotting over, hand in hand with Amelia, her shoes in his other hand.
"Shut up Pike, no one is voting for you anyway," She stuck her tongue out as they took a seat. Before we knew it everyone that was on the party bus with us was seated at our table, anxious to hear the announcement, except for Lia who paid no attention to the principal.
"When do you think you'll be ready to go upstairs?" Lia asked me as she looked up at me with big eyes.
"This year's prom princess is....Amelia Eversaint!" The principal announced. Applause began to fill the room as Amelia squealed and jumped up from her seat, Justin grabbed her and sat her back down as she bounced with joy and he carefully placed her shoes back onto her feet.
It was an odd site, seeing Justin be such a gentleman.
She quickly glided towards the center of the dance floor towards the principal and our class advisor who was holding a tiara in her hand. Amelia's eyes lit up with excitement as she felt the tiara being placed on her head.
"She's so adorable, Justin how did you get her to go to prom with you?" Asha asked curiously.
"Well she asked me to prom, the fact that she's so honest and blunt is just so attractive but I imagine she's not interested in dating right now," Justin rubbed the back of his neck.
"She's like a little weird faerie...it's so cute," Maddy smiled.
"Clarity when will you be ready to go upstairs?" Lia asked again, a little bit more impatiently and fidgety.
"Why are you asking?" I asked.
I looked up to see Nathan sitting two tables away from us with a girl clinging to his arm trying to get his attention but his eyes were currently fixated on Lia. I looked down and noticed Lia was now looking down at her hands as they slightly shook with nervousness.
"If you are ready to go then we can go," I said as I reached down to grab her hand and squeeze it tightly.
I looked up at Alex and noticed he was staring at us intensely. He turned around and for a moment made eye contact with Nathan.
Startled, he quickly got up from his seat and walked away towards the hallway, away from our view.
What a bitch.
"This year's prom prince is Edris Gonzalez!" The principal announced.
"I thought he would be at least king since he's the Valedictorian," Maddy said.
"I can't wait to see whose prom king then," Asha said excitedly.
I was no longer interested, I was more interesting in getting Lia to a more comfortable place where she felt safe.
"Do you have all of your things? We can go now," I said as I rose from my seat, Lia rising from hers as well. She nodded her head as she grabbed her heels and began hastily putting them back onto her feet.
"Where are you guys going? Lia are you alright?" Alex asked concerned.
"Yeah I think I'm just done for the night that's all," Lia smiled weakly.
Or so she thought.
"I am pleased to announce this year's Prom Queen is Cecelia Summers!" The entire room exploded into cheers as people began to stand up, looking around for Lia as she stood frozen in place. She looked back at me, a million emotions running rampant on her face.
"Lia go up there so you can get crowned!" Asha said as she squealed, cheering Lia on.
She hesitantly walked froward, her train following behind her as everyone in the room continued to gawk at her beauty. She was like a natural born model who wasn't quite sure of her walk yet.
She walked forward, her hands still slightly shaking as she bent down slightly for our class advisor to place the crown on her head. She stood in front of Amelia and Edris, not daring to look around the room, her nerves beginning to get the best of her.
"And now to announce the Prom King of this year...Alexander Miller!" Alex immediately jumped up and fixed his gaze onto Lia. He bent down to have the crown placed on his head and immediately stood next to Lia and crouched low so that he could whisper something in her ear. She nodded her head as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"Well look at that, Lia and Alex prom king and queen," Maddy smirked.
I looked over at Abigail who was staring at Alex and Lia with admiration.
"The king and queen, princess and prince will down do the traditional slow dance together,"The principal said as he moved from the center of the dance floor to make space for the couples.
Alex took Lia's hand in his and wrapped his hand around her waist. As the song started both couples began to sway back and forth with each other to the beat of the music. They were talking to each other in low voices, it looked almost as if Alex were trying to comfort her. She smiled up at him and laughed before gently resting her head on his chest and closing her eyes.
"You know if Lia wasn't lesbian her and Alex would actually make a really cute couple," Maddy pointed out as we all watched them dance together, completely fazed of those around them.
I quickly glanced over at Abigail and noticed the look of admirable was slowly turning into a slight look of jealousy as she looked over at Lia in Alex's arms.
I didn't see it as an intimate thing, I saw it as a best friend comforting another best friend, if this were under different circumstances and Lia liked men and women then this would be concerning.
She wasn't able to hug her father today or any day for a while so most likely in her eyes this was the next best thing.
The next chapter will be explicit, it is not advised for younger ages to read the next chapter but I cannot control who reads my stories so you have been warned.
