apartment 999.
"what do u think?"
he asked, still trying to find my gaze. I was still trying to analyze the changes around me.
"too much?"
he asked again. he passed to the bathroom and appeared with clothes that had changed.
"do you only carry one bag?"
he pointed to the bag I placed on the sofa. he seemed to think without taking his eyes off me.
"hey.. don't you have comments about this?"
he asked again impatiently.
"I shouldn't care"
the answer I gave contradicted what I felt now. in fact he did succeed in making me wonder.
"I've guessed that your response will be like this" he chuckled.
"you can use all that women's equipment in this apartment. those cosmetics. then a few pairs of shoes in a shoe rack in front of the door and also some clothes in this closet,"
he explained, pointing in various directions.
"you are free to do anything as long as you don't bother me"
he said everything casually as if all this was normal.
"do you like the flowers?"
he asked again.
"are you sure you want to hear my opinion?"
hearing my answer, he laughed in the middle of his steps towards the door.
"let me show you a few places around this apartment."
even though I was still confused by his intentions, I rushed over and started to match his steps.
---
our trip around the apartment area ended at one of the coffee shops near the swimming pool. this is the first time I have felt the atmosphere of a quiet night.
we sat under a large umbrella with a pair of lounge chairs accompanied by a small table overlooking the pool.
besides us, there were only a few people whom i guessing is apartment residents, walking around the pool area. the more dissolved the fewer people are seen around us. it's amazing how I can listen to the sound of crickets in a city like this.
"are you sure you don't want something? tea or maybe milk?"
he asked again a second time.
"no, thank you. I definitely can't sleep if I drink anything other than water."
he nod then drink coffee on the paper cup in his hand.
"are you sure you can fall asleep after spending it?"
I asked, pointing to the two coffee cups in front of me.
"not a big deal for me" he replied.
"Is there no one who refuses your decision to move here?"
even though I don't like the question, I can't avoid this time.
"I have no choice, right?" I answered briefly.
"there is always a choice,"
he replied with his heavy, distinctive voice.
"but my condition makes it impossible to choose another option."
a smile adorned his face hearing my answer.
"what you just said made me feel like I was someone who was... terrible"
I could feel his reluctance to finish what he said.
"I never said that." I said, trying to refute what he had just said.
"do you think I'm terrible?" this time it seemed like he was serious about the question he had just said.
"you just... full of mystery" I managed to express my opinion in one breath. his simple laugh returned.
"look who's talking now," he said amid his laughter.
"maybe we are both people who have secrets that are difficult for others to understand, and that makes the relationship between us feels.."
"normal?"
he managed to finish my words. I nodded.
"do you have a dream?"
this time he stared blankly as if to let his question hang just like that.
"I'm not sure if I still have the right to dream" I answered indifferently.
"they say everyone has the right to dream"
he said full of confidence while returning my gaze.
"how about you?"
hearing my question, he sipped his coffee again.
"was, now what I have is only a goal"
I can catch a flurry of enthusiasm in his words.
"finally.." he said while lifting the paper cup.
"I will go up," he said briefly. he stood up and threw a glass of paper into the trash can.
"can I spend time here a little longer?" I asked, still sitting in my place.
"I told you that you are free to do whatever you want."
"including spending all night here?"
I asked, convincing the meaning of his words just now.
"if that's your choice,"
he seemed to want to continue his steps but turned back as if he remembered something.
"do you feel uncomfortable with the changes?"
"I only need time" I replied trying to smile at him.
"is it because of the flowers?" he asked again.
"...maybe the flowers" i said.
he laughed again then waved from behind his back and continued his steps.
---
the sound of footsteps being heard back and forth and half running successfully made me wake up. the pain that struck my neck was not something I circulated when I decided to spend the night on this sofa.
after having gathered awareness, I found his figure busy trying to pair a tie while looking in all directions to find something.
"what are you looking for?" I asked, moving towards him.
"my watch"
I began to search to the corner of the room and find it in the pantry table.
"thanks."
he said as he hurriedly put on his socks near the main door.
"aish, I forgot my bag"
understand what he meant, I put his briefcase beside him when he finished wearing shoes.
"I don't usually oversleep like this.."
"are you sure there's nothing left behind?"
"no. but I have to hurry. see you later"
"see you" the silence returned when the main door closed again. it's amazing how his presence can make such a difference in this room.
I actually still doubt my decision to fulfill his request. it's just that at that time my mind was messed up and my focus was to get money for my mother's treatment.
my mother insisted on returning to the house that kept those terrible memories. she said she didn't want to bother other people. the reason I think is too far-fetched.
***
the clock shows three o'clock in the afternoon and the time seems to run very slowly in this room. I can't do much. cleaning this apartment only takes less than an hour.
without his presence everything went so slowly. the flowers that looked fresh yesterday now began to wither. It's a pity to spend money just for such a moment's beauty.
I don't understand the reason why he looks so prepared everything for my move here. it seems impossible if he does prepare everything for myself. everything still feels awkward.
I approached the clothes that he showed yesterday where I could find clothes I could wear. the cloths from a dozen pieces of dress that were hanging filled my view as I pushed the sliding cabinet.
I took one of the black off-shoulder dresses patterned with a red rose. looks simple but gives an elegant impression on this dress.
the price that still hanging on the dress brand is proof that this dress has never been worn before. the nominal listed is quite amazing. I don't even suspect that a dress can cost mllions like this. after I noticed, every dress in the cupboard had a similar, though not similar model. mostly knee-length with the motif of the flower and the decoration on the collar.
finally I couldn't stop myself from starting to try this black dress I was holding. the size is perfect for me. it's amazing to find new facts that he has the expertise to choose the right size clothing. I had a lil hard time recognizing the figure that was stuck in the mirror in front of me. it's amazing how I can look so different just by changing the clothes I wear. I have to admit that I look more.. elegant and classy.
too impressed with my change, I just realized his presence when his figure appeared in the reflection. he stood not far behind me, looking at what I was wearing now. when I turned around, I found him still staring at me silently. I held the dress I use awkwardly.
"I know it's not suitable for me..."
he started walking towards me and his gaze made my heart race faster. his hands crossed my face and then I felt my hair untie my hair.
"perfect."
he quickly pulled my face then landed a soft and long kiss on my lips. his kiss slowly became lust as if trying to convey a deep desire.
