Lost and Found

Please let me know what you think, I also want to know if there was anything that I missed.

Ten-year old Maria went to the movie theater to see Labyrinth with her older sister, Holly. For the past week Maria has been depressed, because her best friend, Laddie Thompson was missing, so her parents suggested that her older sister Holly takes her to the movies to cheer her up. In the middle of the show Maria had to go use the bathroom, but when she got back she noticed that Holly was gone. Maria assumed she must've gone to get more snacks, even though they already had popcorn, soda and chocolate covered raisins. Maybe she went to get a refill on her soda since she took her drink with her. So Maria just sat back down to watch the movie.

As the minutes went by and it was getting close to the end of the movie there was still no sign of her sister. Where was she? Could something have happened to her?

As the movie credits roll and the lights came back on Maria searched frantically for Holly but couldn't find her. It was then she overheard a conversation between a couple.

"Did you see the red-headed girl in the lobby with her boyfriend?" the woman said to her husband.

"Yeah that tall muscular guy with red hair and glasses," the man answered. "Those two were kissing like their lips were glued to each other."

Maria's blood went cold. Her sister had red hair and a boyfriend matching the description the man gave. Then it all clicked, her sister left her to go with her boyfriend. As the people slowly dwindle Maria felt more alone. Maria then went out to the lobby to see if she could find her sister.

"Holly, Holly, where are you? Holly?!" Maria called out, but there was no answer and she couldn't find her sister anywhere.

Maria then went to the pay phone to try and call home, but there was no answer, so she left a message telling them what happened.

"Mom, Dad, it's me I can't find Holly anywhere. Please get this message soon," Maria said then hung up.

When Maria ran outside to try it was dark out. She looked all around to try and find Holly, she saw that the parking lot was nearly empty and her sister's car was gone. Maria tried calling her parents a second time, but once again there was no answer, and she once again left them a message.

"Mom, Dad, it's Maria again. Holly left me at the movie theater. Please come and get me," Maria said trying to keep herself from crying.

She didn't understand why they weren't answering the phone. When she and Holly left for the movies her parents were at home and they didn't even mentioned any plans of going anywhere.

Maria sat on a bench outside the movie theater alone while eating her chocolate covered raisins she still had as tears ran down her cheeks. Her own sister left her to go be with her stupid boyfriend and her own parents couldn't be bothered to answer the phone their youngest kid. It was then a group of boys approached her.

"Hey kid, you hungry?" A blond haired one, closest to her height, asked, kneeling down to her. "I'm Marko, do you want me to go and get you some real food?"

"You're scaring her," A muscular boy with dark hair said noticing her shrink a little.

"Aw, she looks homeless," another blond boy, whined, "She has to be, no other kids are out here this late at night."

"Hey, I'm not homeless!" Maria said, pouting.

"Shouldn't you be at home, in bed then?" the dark haired boy, who was Dwayne, asked.

Maria hesitated she knows she isn't suppose to talk to strangers. There was also a fourth member of the group, a boy with a blond bleached mullet whose eyes gave Maria the creeps. But what choice did she have? "My sister left me here and I tried calling my parents twice, but they didn't answer."

The dark haired boy with muscles frowned deeply.

"Aww you poor kid," the blond boy, who was Paul, said sympathetically.

"Would you like to come with us?" Marko said invitingly, "We're a lot of fun. I promise."

But before Maria could say anything she noticed a very pretty girl with curly brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a white sleeveless shirt, a gypsy skirt and flats, as she walked down the boardwalk. Maria then saw there was a boy that looked her age, who looked very familiar, was with her.

"Laddie?" Maria whispered, which the boys heard.

The girl and the young boy noticed Maria too, and saw the boys surrounding her. Quickly, they made their way over.

"Maria!" the boy cried out and ran over to hug her.

"Laddie!" Maria cried happily, glad at least she found her best friend who she hasn't seen in a while since he disappeared.

"Hello, my name is Star. And it looks like you already know Laddie," the girl said, taking her hands in hers. Her voice was like honey. "Are these boys bothering you?"

"Hey, we walked over to offer our assistance!" Marko said frowning. "The kid was by herself."

"He's right," Maria spoke up, "My older sister she left me and I've been trying to call my parents, but they won't pick up."

"Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry," Star said sympathetically.

"Me too Maria," Laddie said hugging his best friend.

The boy with the mullet spoke up, "Since you and Laddie know each other and it doesn't seem like your parents are coming, why don't you come with us."

"David please no," Star begged him. Not another kid dragged into this and this girl is also Laddie's friend.

"Star," David states in a tone that sounded to Maria like a warning and a threat. David then turned his attention back to Maria, "So what do you say kid?"

Maria hesitated, she knows better than to go with strangers. But Laddie was here and he seemed to know them, so maybe these older boys aren't so bad. Besides she was hurt and angry at her sister leaving and forgetting her and her parents for ignoring her calls. If this was how little she meant to her family then maybe she needs a new family.

"I would love to," Maria decided.

"Excellent!" David said.

"Would you like to get some food first?" Marko asked, "What do you like?"

"I love pizza and Chinese food," Maria answered.

"Chinese it is," said David, "Let's go."

As the group made their way over where the motorcycles were parked, Laddie said to Maria, "I've missed you."

"I missed you too Laddie," Maria replies, "So I guess you know them."

Laddie nods, "They're nice, especially Dwayne, Star and Paul." Laddie points to the dark-haired boy and the other blond haired boy to let her know who Dwayne and Paul are.

When they got to their motorcycles David said, "Maria you'll ride with Marko."

"Okay," Maria said.

Star got on David's motorcycle behind him, once Dwayne and Marko got on their motorcycles they helped Laddie and Maria get on theirs behind them and Paul got on his motorcycle. As they rode off, Maria clung onto Marko feeling nervous as she never been on a motorcycle before. Maria wasn't sure why, but she had a feeling that choosing to go with Laddie, Star and these four boys was about to change her life.
