1: why?

A fine day is the best kind of day, ambient and kind to eyes and skin, the kind of day that lets you be the art upon its canvas. The rays of sunshine beaming down on the mortal world that stood bellow allowed life to continue to evolve, continue to live...farm animals lazily lay on the fields basking under the sun amidst the sunflowers that were gazing at the sun. It seemed as though the world was lit up, and the sun hugged Earth with it's warm, cozy locks of gold.

A brunette was walking down the alley, her fluffy hair getting in front of her face. Her hazel eyes adjusted to the sunlight, as she hurried to her office. Her pale skin warmed up to the summers weather. She shivered when the wind touched her sheep-like ears.

Out of no where, a sound of breaking china echoed in the air, followed by distant screaming and a bottle shattering into a million pieces. Claire ran towards the office, not caring if some of the papers fell out of her hands. She needed to see the drama that was happening.

Claire entered the office, putting down the papers that she didn't lose. A young brunette boy was standing there, blood splattered over his whole face, some glass sticking out his of certain wounds. However, the glistening emerald eyes showed no signs of pain. The boy didn't even flinch, his eyes showed no emotion. He looked no older that 14, but yet he seemed to be already dead...it look disturbing...

"Schlatt, calm down, he's just a kid" she asked him. Schlatt's face changed quickly, then turned back into anger. However, before he could say anything else, someone called him. He left to answer his communicator.

Claire went up to the kid. "Are you ok, kiddo?"

The kid flinched back, staying silent. His dull eyes fell onto the floor.

"i won't hurt you kid, let's get you bandaged, ok?" Claire asked again. The boy hesitated, before nodding. He watched Claire carefully as she patched him up, examining her every move; you'd be surprised how much body language could reveal about a person.

"what's your name, kid?"

He stayed silent. The door burst open and schlatt came back in, his face fuming. "What are you doing?!" He raised his hand to slap the ran-hybrid, only for it to be stopped by the boy.

Claire stared in shock. One moment she was about to be beaten, the second, she's as pushed to the side, away from any danger.

The kid looked daggers into schlatt's eyes. The drunken man looked back down at him. "How dare you do that. Who gave you permission to do so?! After everything I've done for you! How DARE YOU DO THAT TO YOUR FATHER"

"Schlatt calm the fuck down! You're over reacting!" Claire tried defending the kid, she tried to step in front of him, only to be blocked by a very soft...wall?

Wait no, that's not a wall. Claire looked again, it was the boy's wing. The grey feathers rustled as he pushed her away from schlatt.

'Why was he doing this...?' She asked herself. 'what the fuck is happening?'

"SHUT THE FUCK UP WOMAN! i've done so much for him, and he's being an ungrateful piece of shit" schlatt yelled at her.

"From the looks of it all you did was give him traumatic memories." the ram growled at him.

"You!" He pointed at the boy "get out of my sight!" he grabbed the boy by the scruff of his hair and pushed him out the door "As for you, we'll have a long talk right now"

Schlatt cleared his throat, but was rudely interrupted by the shorter girl.

"Go on. We have all the time in the world" she smirked.

Schlatt's face changed back to annoyance really quickly. He cleared his throat once again and began his speech, this time, without any interruption. "I have all the rights to that child. I was the one who bought him. I was the one who raised him. I gave him food, closure, and a roof to sleep under. I am the person who decides what happens to him, and, coincidentally, has a lack of soldiers. So i wondered, what's stopping me from using the supplies I've got, to make something better! Make something newer! Make something safer!"

Claire remained silent, before not being able to keep her anger in. "When you 'bought' him, you took the responsibility to be his parent. Make their own way in the world. The authority to make decisions concerning and affecting the care, welfare and proper development of the child is known as 'parental responsibility'. So then, you have to take care of his mental and physical well-being, which I cannot say you are doing." She finally said. "You have to, for once, be responsible and less selfish. You have to started looking past our small little tunnel and see the bigger picture."

He chuckled. "oh I've seen the bigger picture...I created the bigger picture, and everything here" he gestured to everything outside the small window. "was because of me seeing the bigger picture. I'm planning for the future, while you're staying closed-mineded. I am the god of this land and I mean it."

Claire was rooted to the spot, not knowing what to do. All she was able to do was look at Schlatt, her eye glistening in the small rays of sunshine that managed to squeeze in with all the tension in the room. "you're- you're mad" she said, her voice no louder than a mumble.

"what was that? i couldn't hear you under my massive pile of self-confidence and being amazing." Schlatt raised his eye brows, and only laughed when Claire stayed silent. "that's what i thought." he spat at her. "now, lets head over outside, let me show you 'the bigger picture' you've been so eager to find."

He opened the door, walking through it only to slam it right in front of her face. she rolled her eyes and opened the door again, to find Schlatt outside with...a whistle? Who was he summoning, a dog?

Schlatt blew into the whistle with all his might, but no sound came out. Claire was about to laugh at his pitiful attempt but then something came...

Out of no where, the kid flew in, his pupils slit like a cat, wings extended to their full length. His hands were clawed and feet were like they were torn from a bird and stitched to his legs. His breathing was heavy and eyes fixated on a dot. Schlatt has taken out a laser pointer and started to move it closer and closer to Claire.

The kid's eyes followed.

Finally, it was right at her chest. Schlatt smiled and said one word, "attack."

The kid lunged at her, sword in hand and no remorse in his eyes, no mercy, no emotion was spotted behind those slit pupils. Just pain and endless suffering. You could see how those eyes were tired from all of this, like an old dog who worked at a circus and was made to do the same trick time and time again.

Claire watched in fear as her life was very close to ending. So then, she started reminiscing about her good times. 'Fuck no, Claire what are you doing?' she thought. She jumped out of the way, trying to not get caught by this not-so-innocent kid. Yeah, Schlatt was was bad, but never in a million did Claire guess she was going to get killed by his minion-demon-adopted-child.

Schlatt laughed, enjoying the small show that was put up for him. Her pitiful tries to escape were just little sparkles of join in his life as he saw his Soldier coming closer and closer... "He's a super soldier! You won't run away! He's trained to catch his prey..." he wheezed out as Claire got caught by the blade and fell to the ground.

"well I do have to more lives if I die now so.. I might as well die if theres no escape." Claire sighed, ready to feel the pain of losing a cannon life once again. Only to be met with nothingness.

She peeked one eye open, too see a netherite blade right by her neck, barely tracing her skin. she opened her eyes fully, squinting as he saw the kid's figure standing right in front of her, panting a little.

Claire let out a tear. "why'd you s-stop?'

Schlatt's face changed from a smirk to anger. He blew the whistle again. "KILL HER! KILL HER YOU STUPID BEAST"

The boy did not move.

"OLIVER! KILL HER!" Schlatt yelled again.

The boy only set aside his sword,  clawed hand's disappeared as he did so.

Claire flinched as she heard a small voice in her head, not her own, as if something was whispering in her ear. 'run...' it said.

Claire stood on the floor in shock. "I- thank you.." they whispered, then ran off without another word. She was happy that faith let her go this time.
