Part 3: How A Demon Keeps Her House
The picture is Mistu (if you cant tell I'm just gonna call him that from now on cause it's the nickname Kuroyami gave him) also sorry the pic is blurry.
Once inside Kuroyami stretched her arms above her head. While Mitsu kept his gaze glued the the floor.
She noticed this and sighed. "What's wrong? You were a royal knight in the past were you not? That means you must have done a lot more then just cut off another human's hand before. What's the big deal?"
"Never have I used my blade to harm another citizen of Vandell. As an honourable knight I fought our enemies to protect our people, no matter who they may be, not to hurt them." He closed his eyes looking away shamefully.
"Wow this one's gonna be a piece of work." She muttered to herself. "Look Mitsu it's not like you killed the guy. Plus you, we, did the right thing. Those guys stole form the local wizard's shop in town. That's why I was there earlier when I saw you. They don't actually know how to use magic properly. Which makes them extremely dangerous. By cutting off his hand you cut off his link to his magic. You did end up protecting your people, or whatever, so try to lighten up okay?" She rolled her eyes.
He looked up to meet her gaze for a few seconds. "Okay... Wait a minuet. That shop was a wizard's shop?!"
"Yeah they're all over the kingdom disguised as something else. You just gotta know where to look. Also that old lady you helped she took you for a fool. She's a witch, and a young one at that, she was perfectly capable of moving those boxes on her own." She laughed at his stupidity.
"What?! Well now I feel really stupid..." he trailed off. "Wait a sec if I cut off that guys source of magic, what about the other guy? Isn't he still dangerous?"
"No, I took care of it." She replied holding up the necklace with a purple glowing stone on the bottom. "Now it's getting late. Abbalon set the house on course to the next location."
"Yes mam." Abbalon agreed and the house shook slightly.
"Now it's getting late we should probably get some sleep." She yawned. "Go ahead and grab a pillow and blanket from the closet."
"I'm staying here?" Mitsu asked in slight surprise.
"Well where else would you stay? Your're my slave remember I'm not gonna let you out of my sight." she stressed back at him with distrust.
"Fine." he muttered. he then walked over to the closet and pulled on the screen. It didn't budge so he tugged a little harder. It suddenly gave way and slid open causing a dust cloud to puff up into his face. He coughed and swatted it away. He then took a pillow, putting it under his arm. He grabbed the blanket and tried to pull it out. It felt like it was stuck on something. He gave it one more tug and it came out with a number of other pillows and also some fluffy thing. He jumped slightly when the fluffy thing moved, but when he looked closer he saw it was a black and white cat that had been sleeping amongst the bedding.
"Oh there you are Taidko. I was wondering where you were hiding." Kuroyami greeted the small animal. "That's Abbalon's familiar."
"Familiar?" Mitsu asked.
"My god do you know nothing?" She sighed. "Wizards have a familiar. An animal that is made out of their magic, well I guess made more from their soul. Not every wizard has them, some find them useless, but they actually help balance a wizard's power, and keep them connected to the non magic world. Taidko was Abbalon's familiar, but once he got himself turned into that, she just became an ordinary lazy old cat."
"Oh well, I'm not really a cat person, but she is pretty cute." Mitsu kneeled down scratching the furry animal's warm tummy. To which she replied with a happy set of purrs.
"Yeah well she's also completely useless. The only thing she's good for is eating my food and sleeping in any available space." Kuroyami rolled her eyes then her voice too a tiered tone as she started up the stairs. "Are you coming?"
"Yeah yeah." Mitsu muttered picking up his pillow and blanket and following her.
"That's the bathroom." She said pointing to a small doorway. "That's up to storage." She pointed to an old small metal staircase that looked like it was on its last leg. "And this is the bedroom." She opened the door to the larger room. There were two closets, one large and one small, a twin sized bed against the wall with a nightstand by it, and a small dressing table with a mirror. And of course the same amount of clutter as downstairs. This time it being more books and other odds in ends rather then dishes. Other than that is was fairly empty.
"And where do I sleep?" Mitsu asked.
"Ah yes one second." She walked over to the entry space in the room, to a large panel in the wall and flipped it out. When she brought it down it revealed a full sized bed and another cloud of dust. It was her turn to go into a small coughing fit. "There you go."
"We're sleeping in the same room?" He asked.
"Well yeah there's only one bedroom. So there, there's your bed. Don't complain." She walked over and sat in her own bed.
"This mattress is filthy." He pointed out walking over to it.
"It's just dust, shake it off outside if it bothers you that much." She pointed to two double glass doors that led out into a balcony.
"Woah where the hell are we?" Mitsu asked as he looked out the glass. The world around the little house was just and ocean of purple waves and a night sky.
"It's called the in-between." She explained. "It's how we move the house without any troubles. Even an invisible house can't just travel around unnoticed. So we go into the in-between, or a space between two different dimensions. We travel in it and then come back out into a new location in our world. It's essentially a way to cheat at teleportation, except not nearly as fast."
"Wow I didn't even know something like that was possible..." Mitsu said in disbelief. "What if we were to try and leave the house while here."
"Well unless you can fly I don't suggest it. If you get stuck here it's entirely possible you could be lost here forever. Not many who wander in here without proper protection make it out." She replied. "Just don't fall off the balcony and you should be fine."
"Gee thanks." He set his bedding down and dragged the mattress out shaking off as much collected dust as he could before returning back inside.
When he did step inside he noticed that the lights were turned off and Kuroyami was already lying in bed blankets curled around, her back turned to him, and her breathing slow and calm.
I didn't even know demons slept. He thought as he quietly made his bed. He then removed his tall black boots, and his blue uniform jacket, putting them to the side and climbing into bed. I guess there's a lot in this world I still don't know... And with that he drifted off.
-&-
Mitsu woke up the next morning to rays of sun blinding him from the glass balcony doors. The birds were chirping happily outside. I guess we're out of the in-between now...He blinked a few times and slowly sat up rubbing his eyes. So it wasn't a dream... Everything that happened yesterday was real... He yawned deeply and stretched his arms high above him. When his hands fell back down onto the bed he was surprised to feel something next to him in the bed.
"Ah!" He nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw that it was Kuroyami sleeping soundly next to him. "What the Hell?!"
"Mm." She shifted opening her eyes only halfway. "What's with all the noise?" She grumbled groggily. She was in a black tank top and her hair, instead of being in the usual two high pony tails, was down and hung down onto her shoulders. Showing how long it actually was.
"Why in God's name are you in my bed?!" Mitsu asked his face now turning a pinkish colour.
She blinked a few times and then looked at him. "I got cold." She replied simply. She then turned back around, curling up and closing her eyes again. "It's too early for this..." She muttered.
"What?" He asked in confusion, but noticed that she wasn't really up to having a conversation in her tiered state, so he just sighed. This girl's strange. Even for a demon.
It was then that he noticed a dark red crest on Kuroyami's left shoulder blade. He tried to look at it closer, but she shifted and her hair fell down over it.
He was curious, but decided to just get up instead...
-&-
Kuroyami woke up a few hours later. She sat up stretching, and could hear shuffling downstairs. She dragged herself out of bed, not bothering with putting shoes on. She groggily walked downstairs and gasped when she stepped down onto the first floor her foot splashed into something cold. She looked down to see it had landed in a bucket of soapy water.
"Oh... Uh sorry." Mitsu said from the living room. He wasn't wearing his jacket and had the sleeves to his undershirt rolled up. He removed a cloth from over his mouth and put the broom he was holding down. "That was a bad place to leave that." He got a towel and tossed it to her.
"What are you even doing." She asked trying to control her anger as she dried her now cold foot. She then threw the towel back at him with more force.
"Cleaning. This place was a pigsty, honestly how did you even live in it?" He shook his head. "There's so much dust everywhere I had to open up all the windows to air out the place.
"Hey it wasn't that bad!" She snapped defensively. She looked around and was impressed by how much cleaner the house was. The clutter was all cleared up, and the thick layer of dust was gone. "Wait you opened all the windows?"
"We'll all except that one." He pointed to the small wooden window by the fireplace. "That one was locked, I couldn't get it open."
"Good. Never ever open that window. I'm the only one who can see what's beyond it. Understand?" She said sternly with a hard glare.
He was curious, but her seriousness scared him slightly. "Fine." He replied. "By the way what the hell was with that stunt you pulled this morning?"
"I told you I got cold." She shrugged.
"I don't care if you were cold, what sane person just sneaks into someone else's bed?!" He snapped.
"God I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of it. Humans are so weird. It normal for demons to sleep together platonically. They are very close to their pack." She explained. "I was doing what was in my nature.
"If demons have packs then where is yours?" He asked.
She turned away hiding a look of pain. "Not all demons have packs... Some would just rather be alone. Besides there aren't that many of us left. So yeah I'm alone here."
"What am I chopped liver? And I for one," Abbalon spoke up from the wall. "Am glad someone finally takes the effort to clean this place. At least you chose a human with common decency for a clean space, unlike someone."
"Oh can it fire breath." Kuroyami snapped. She then grabbed a cup of the tea that Mitsu had made that morning. She sat at the table and took a sip. She smiled into the cup slightly when the rich taste stretched across her tongue. And he makes good tea. Maybe I'll keep him around longer than I thought. "Just hurry up and get done here we'll be leaving soon."
"Leaving where?" He asked.
"Well if you're gonna be my slave that sword isn't gonna do. Not as it is. If you ever met another demon you'd be dead. So we're gonna get you proper protection." She replied sipping more of her tea.
"Fine I'll go get ready then." He headed up the stairs.
"Shouldn't you warn him about where you're going?" Abbalon asked.
"No. He could do with being thrown into danger head first. It will train him up a bit." She explained. "Besides I'll be with him."
"Why does that not make me feel any better?" Abbalon sighed.
Hey guys, wow this was long! I hope you liked it. It was a more chill chapter. Did you find it funny how she was in his bed XD? Vote and comment, bye!
