Chapter 3: The Rebel's Gambit
Kaida is captured by a band of rogue rebels who recognize her as the daughter of the technocratic scientist they once tried to assassinate. Despite their animosity, they need her help. In exchange for information about "The Skyward," they demand that she hacks into an ancient satellite, rumored to hold data from before The Collapse. Kaida reluctantly agrees, knowing the rebels have key information she desperately needs.
[Kaida is brought before the leader of the rebel cell, a scarred woman named Nyx, who glares at her from across a rusted metal table.]
Nyx:
"So, the infamous Kaida Lumina. Daughter of the man who nearly destroyed us all. What's it like, knowing your father was a murderer?"
Kaida (coldly):
"My father wasn't responsible for The Collapse. You know nothing."
Nyx (smirking):
"Is that what you tell yourself to sleep at night? Face it—everything that happened is because of him, and by extension, you."
[Kaida's fists tighten, but she forces herself to stay calm.]
Kaida:
"Spare me the lecture. I didn't come here to debate the past. You have something I need—information on The Skyward. What's your price?"
Nyx (leaning back, crossing her arms):
"Oh, it's simple. Help us hack into the old satellite network. You get your information. We get a new weapon."
Kaida (narrowing her eyes):
"A weapon? I'm not interested in starting another war."
Nyx:
"War's already here, sweetheart. Whether you like it or not."
[Kaida hesitates but knows she has no other choice. She nods.]
Kaida:
"Fine. But when this is over, we're even."
