Chapter 3 {Not One Of Us}
The sun was barely rising, Katundra was sound asleep. Until she heard a loud bang in her room. She drew her sword and used candle light to see who had gotten into the room. She looked around, and saw Farkas on the floor, "Farkas!?" She whisper shouted at him, he looked up at her innocently and smiled. "What in oblivion are you doing?" She asked, quietly.
"Well, i wanted to ask you, if maybe you wanted to come and train out back with me?" He asked sweetly. Katundra sighed, and agreed. "Just let me get changed." She stated. She quickly got into her steel armor, and met Farkas in the Main Hall. "Ready?" He asked, "As i'll ever be" She replied. They walked out the doors, and into the cool, crisp, dark morning. "So, do you wanna go against me or a practice dummy?" Farkas asked, "Don't you count as a practice dummy?" Katundra laughed, "Hey!" Farkas shouted and punched her arm playfully.
"Um, i guess i'll try against you!" She said confidently. "Alright, ready your weapons." He said, as he drew his greatsword. Katundra unsheathed her axe and sword, and stood across from Farkas. She made the first move, and missed. She aimed for his side, but Farkas moved and Katundra fell face first in the dirt. "You okay?" Farkas asked, holding out a hand for her to take. She took his hand, and nodded. "Again." So, this time, Farkas made the first move, Trying to strike her from the side, she jumped and Farkas stumbled forward, but quickly turned and hit Katundra in the side.
"Your dead." He stated. "Again." Kat stated. She kicked him back, leaped over his head, and stuck her sword between his arm and side. "Your dead." She mocked him. He smiled, and watched as she did a little dance. He laughed and shook his head, they kept going at it like this for hours, Vilkas came out, and saw them wrestling. "Give up?" Katundra asked, "Never!" Farkas replied, Katundra began tickling Farkas through his armor, "Stop! No!" He said through fits of laughter. "Say i'm the best!" Katundra yelled. "Fine, fine! Your the best!" Farkas gave in, she let him up.
Vilkas turned and saw Njada and Torvar come out. Farkas and Katundra glanced over and saw them, "We should head in, i think they want to train." Farkas said, Kat nodded and walked up the stairs, Farkas was already in the Hall. Njada stopped Kat, "Hey, i know you think you fit in, but you'll never be one of us. You'll quit soon enough." She said, "I don't give up the easily." Katundra replied. "You know you'll never be accepted as one of us, right? Kodlack and Farkas may like you, but i don't know what they see in you. Your just some slave farmer, a wanna-be." Njada retorted.
That hurt. Katundra turned away, and walked inside Jorrvaskr. "Are they right?" She asked herself, Farkas tossed her an apple, she caught it, and took a bite. "You trained good today, you listen better then anyone else i've ever trained." Farkas said with a smile. "Thanks.." Katundra replied, and looked into the fire in the middle of the room. She couldn't help but think about what Njada had said. "Aela and Vilkas said that you'd have a week here, then you'd either quit or die. But i believe in you, your strong." Farkas stated, locking eyes with Katundra. She smiled at his honesty, "Thanks Farkas, i really needed to hear that." She replied and gave him a hug.
"Anytime, Shield-sister." He said, hugging her back. After their embrace ended, Kodlack called for Kat. She went down the stairs and into Kodlack's room. "Yes, Harbinger?" She asked, "I'm sending you, Farkas, Njada, and Aela on a very important job." He stated. "To do what?" She asked, "There's a large camp of Necromancers and Vampires i need you to take out, their causing trouble by Riften. Make haste and head out." He said, She nodded, "Good luck!" Kodlack called out.
"We got a job Farkas!" Katundra yelled and punched him. "Okay, let's go!" He replied, "Njada and Aela are coming too, though." She said, Njada rolled her eyes, and Aela nodded. "Let us go." She said. They went to the stables and rented four horses, and began riding to Riften. They were halfway there, when they came across a giant camp. Aela took out her bow, and shot one. "What the hell Aela!?" Katundra yelled. The other two giants came running towards them, "Crap!" Farkas yelled, and hopped off his horse. The giants swung their clubs at them, taking out Katundra's horse in the process.
She turned and looked at the giant, and stabbed him in the gut. "Damn you." She said, Farkas got kicked by the giant, and throw into a large rock. "Farkas!" Kat shouted and hopped on a rock, and onto the giants back, Aela used her bow and shot an arrow right past Kat's head, nearly killing her. She sighed, and decapitated the giant. She leaped off it, and rushed to Farkas, "Are you okay!?" She asked, helping him up. "I'm...fine.." He said, rubbing his neck, and cracking his back. "Aela, what the hell!? You nearly got Farkas, and me killed!" Kat yelled, "You have no right to yell at me, new blood!" Aela yelled, "Your just weak, and can't handle a little giant fight!" She yelled, "Aela! That's enough!" Farkas yelled, he stepped beside Kat, "Katundra is right, what you did was reckless, and stupid!" He yelled at her.
Aela looked away, and got on her horse, "Let's just go." She said, Njada scoffed and mounted her horse as well. "Uh, Farkas.." Katundra started, "My horse is dead..." She stated. "Here, you can ride with me." He said, and helped her up. She held onto Farkas's waist, and they continued their journey to Riften. Once they arrived to the fort, they snuck in, and began wiping out the Necromancers and Vampires. "Don't get bitten, Kat!" Farkas yelled as he chopped one in half.
The Necromancer raised a few Vampires from the dead, so Katundra took them out herself, there were only four after all, so after they were dead, they worked together on the Vampires. "Well, that wasn't so bad." Katundra said as she wiped the blood off her face, "I could go for some mead." Farkas said, they mounted their horses, again, and headed into Riften. They went into the inn, and decided to stay the night. They got some mead, and Katundra talked to a man named Brynjolf for a while, he was supposedly with the thieves guild? She declined his offer to join, for now.
She sat by Farkas, and drank her tankard of mead. "Thanks for standing for me earlier today, it seems none of the others really like me." She said, "Give 'em some time, they'll come around." He replied, and filled his tankard once again. "Now, instead of brooding on how much of assholes they are, let's celebrate!" Farkas said, "This was your first job as a real Companion!" He added. Kat smiled, and paid the bard to play something cheerful and fast. Farkas began dancing, Kat joined in. Moving their feet in sync, and swaying around each other.
They laughed, and Farkas hopped onto the bar, and helped Kat up. They moved their feet as one, hopping around each other, and spinning around. They moved quick, and kicked their feet under each other, never knocking each other over. They jumped down, and hooked arms, spinning in a circle. Katundra laughed, for the first time, in a long time, she was happy.
It had gotten late, so the all headed to their rooms, Farkas and Kat had to share one though. They climbed into the bed, and fell asleep. When they woke, they were in each others arms, they quickly jumped out of the bed, and made sure they were clothed, "Did we-?" "No." She answered him quickly. They sighed, and dressed in their armor, and went downstairs, they found Aela and Njada eating breakfast. "Finally you two are up. We've been waiting for a couple hours already." Njada said, rudely.
Katundra rolled her eyes, and they began their long journey back to Whiterun. Farkas and Kat rode on the same horse, and talk and laughed the entire way home. Once they arrived back at Jorrvaskr, they went to see Kodlack, they informed him that the Vampires and Necromancers were dead. He thanked them, and sent they to do whatever. Katundra went outside, and sat at one of the tables. She sighed, and enjoyed the cool breeze. Farkas sat beside her, and smiled at her. They didn't say anything, just enjoyed each other's company.
Farkas closed his eyes, and sighed as the breeze blew over his face and through his long black hair. Katundra stared at him, and smiled. She felt something within herself, she didn't know what, but she figured she was just happy. Farkas looked over, and she looked away quickly, she could feel her face heat up. At that moment, Farkas felt something within him, he didn't know what, he just figured he was just relaxed and happy.
They sat in silence, and enjoyed each other's company until nightfall. They watched the moon rise, and the northern lights appear, they gazed at the stars, in each other's company the entire time.
