Chapter 9__Legends of Yesterday

Everyone met at a farmhouse in Central City, getting out of their cars with their belongings.

"A bunch of superheroes in a farmhouse?" Thea asked. "I feel like I've seen that in a movie before."

"We need a secure location," Oliver told us.

"What's wrong with STAR Labs?" Caitlin asked.

"Well, I mean, absolutely nothing is you forget about the revolving door you guys installed so the bad guys can come and go as they please," Oliver told us.

"Remind me again what happened to your old lair, or the one before that," Caitlin told him.

"Well, lair number on was compromised by the police, and..." Felicity trailed off, noticing the look Oliver gave her. "I will stop helping."

"Savage only let Barry, Vera and I live because he felt Kendra start to emerge as Hawkgirl and went after her," Oliver told us. "He can sense her and Carter's presence. We don't need to make it easier on him by staying in the city limits."

John looked at Laurel. "Bet you wish you were staying at your mother's place now."

We walked inside.

"We need to find a way to neutralize Savage's advantage," Oliver told us. Barry walked in. "Barry, you're late."

"Sorry," Barry told him sarcastically. "It turns out, it's not easy finding the ass end of nowhere."

"Yeah, for real," Cisco told us. "The roaming charges alone are going to bankrupt me."

"We're discussing how to take away Savage's newfound power," I told him. "And his magic stick thing."

"Uh, Staff of Horus," Carter corrected.

"Well, it's protected by some kind of energy field," Barry told us. "I couldn't lay a finger on it."

"Maybe you wear mittens next time," Felicity told us.

"What if we made some sort of insulated gauntlets?" Caitlin asked.

"Oh, yeah, yeah," Cisco answered. "The magnetic shielding could disrupt the--"

"The staff's magnetic polarity," Felicity finished.

Felicity, Caitlin and Cisco walked out, leaving.

Oliver looked at Barry and me. "Well, while the geek squad works--"

"Heard that, honey," Felicity told him.

"While they work to get the staff away from Savage, we need to know everything there is to know about him," Oliver told us.

"Well, I Googled reincarnated nut jobs and came up with nothing," Thea told us.

"Kendra and I would be the reincarnated nut jobs," Carter told us. "Savage is merely immortal."

"Merely?" Laurel repeated.

"Welcome to the new normal," I told them.

"Anyone who's been around for 4,000 years should leave a trail," John told us. "I'll check with ARGUS, see if they have anything on him."

"Laurel and I can check police reports and stuff like that," Thea told us.

"Good," Oliver told us. Thea, John and Laurel walked out, leaving. Oliver looked at Kendra. "We need to find a way to utilize your new ability."

"My ability?" Kendra repeated.

"It might give us an advantage," Oliver told her.

"Yeah, whatever you do, don't let him train you," Barry told her. "I'm sorry, but when it rains, I can still feel where he shot me with those arrows."

"I'll handle her training, then," Carter told us.

I nodded. "Yeah."

Felicity walked in. "Oliver."

"Uh, I need to run something down," Oliver told us. "I'll be back as soon as I can."

Oliver and Felicity walked out, leaving.

~

Malcolm had arranged a meeting to negotiate with Savage.

After dark, suited up as Pyra, I used fire to fly to the warehouse we were supposed to meet up at.

Suited up as The Flash, Barry zoomed his way through the streets of Central City.

I landed on the ground next to Barry, letting the fire fade.

Barry looked around in confusion.

"You okay?" I asked.

Barry nodded, a little shaken up. "Yeah. Let's just get this over with."

We walked into the warehouse.

Oliver was suited up at Green Arrow, standing next to Malcolm. "Thank you for coming. I know this is more than a little crazy."

"Yeah, well, your friend with the creepy ring asked so nicely," I told him. Barry and I walked toward them. "Please tell me we're not going to negotiate with terrorists. Or, you know, 4,000 year old bad guys."

"Just think of this more as a fact-finding mission," Oliver told us. "Maybe Savage slips up and gives us something that we can use to our advantage."

Malcolm scoffed. "Thea said you were being a little more humorous lately."

Barry looked at Malcolm. "I'm sorry. How do you know so much about Savage, anyway?"

"I don't know anything about him," Malcolm told us. "That is why I'm afraid of him."

Savage walked in. "That's not the only reason to be afraid of me. I assure you."

~

Savage walked closer.

"Thank you for meeting with us," Malcolm told him.

"What do you want?" Oliver asked.

"I want want all living things want," Savage told us. "Not to die."

"I thought that wasn't a problem for you," I told him.

"Only if I take the lifeforce from Prince Khufu and Priestess Chay-Ara," Savage told us.

"Kendra and Carter," I told him.

"The three of us are locked in a vicious circle played out over thousands of years," Savage told us. "None of your concern."

"We've made it our concern," Oliver told him, taking his bow and arrow, shooting Savage in the chest.

Savage pulled the arrow out of his chest, walking closer. "Robin of Locksley. I taught him how to use a bow. He taught me how to not feel pain. I'm the enemy you can't defeat. The only way for you and yours to live through this is to render onto me what is mine." He stood directly in front of Barry and me. "Turn over Prince Khufu and Priestess Chay-Ara within 24 hours, or I will lay waste to this city, killing everyone that you hold dear." He stepped closer to Malcolm and Oliver. "And after that, I will travel to your home, and do the same thing there."

"All right, I'm just curious," Barry told him. "Did you rehearse that speech in the mirror this morning, or is this all just off the cuff?"

Savage chuckled sarcastically, turning his back to us. "Why would you risk the lives of your friends and family for two strangers?" He turned to face us. "206 times I have killed them. What hubris possesses you that makes you think that you can prevent me from doing so again?"

I shook my head. "Not hubris. Hope."

"I came to this meeting out of curiosity," Savage told us. "It is now sated. Bring Khufu and Chay-Ara to Jurgens Industrial in 24 hours, or I will see you dead and buried under the bodies of your loved ones."

Savage dropped the arrow Oliver had shot him with, turning around, walking out, leaving.

"We're not giving up Kendra and Carter," Oliver told us, turning to leave in the opposite direction.

"That's not your decision to make," Malcolm told him. Barry, Malcolm and I followed Oliver. "This is a cycle that has played out for the last 4,000 years."

"Savage may be immortal, but he isn't a god," I told them.

"No, but he's the next best thing," Malcolm told us. "Oliver."

Oliver turned to face us. "What?"

"You better be certain that your stubbornness does not get my daughter killed," Malcolm told him. "Because if that happens, I will come for you. And in a way that will make you beg for the likes of Vandal Savage."

Malcolm walked away.

~

The next morning, Oliver, Barry and I met up with the others at the farm house.

Barry wasn't in here.

"24 hours," Oliver told them.

"Until what?" Kendra asked.

"Until we are supposed to hand you and Carter over to Savage, or..." Oliver trailed off.

"Savage lays waste to Central City," Carter finished.

"Yeah," I answered.

Carter looked at Kendra. "We've been through this before. 1887, the Huang He floods, Savage killed nearly two million people to get to us, and he did."

"We weren't helping you then," Oliver told them. "We are now. We have 24 hours to come up with a workable plan."

"No, this is insane," Kendra told us. "My life isn't worth millions of people's lives."

"Kendra," Carter told her. Kendra walked out, leaving. "I'll talk to her."

I nodded. "Yeah."

Cisco met up with Carter. "Hey, I got this."

"I said I'll talk to her," Carter told him, walking out, leaving.

"Hey, here's an idea," Cisco told us. "Why don't we just toss him over to Vandal Savage?"

~

I walked out to where Barry was standing outside the shed, looking frazzled. "Where were you?"

"Hey," Barry told me, nodding to the shed so we could talk alone.

We walked into the shed.

"You missed the whole, save the city or turn Carter and Kendra over to an immortal psychopath briefing," I told him.

"Yeah, sorry," Barry told me. "Um, Vera, last night, I, um... I ghosted."

I knew what he meant, shaking my head. "No."

Barry nodded. "Yeah, I think I'm going--"

"Don't say it," I told him.

"I think we're going to time jump," Barry told me.

"I just told you not to say it," I told him.

"I'm sorry," Barry told me. "I don't know what else I'm supposed to do."

"The first rule of time travel is you don't talk about time travel, because by having this conversation, we're screwing history," I told him. I thought back to what he said. "Wait, we? You saw me, too?"

Barry nodded. "Yeah, and a flash of blue. And I know that time travel has consequences."

"Okay, um, all right, look," I told him. "Don't panic. A, you don't know that the time jump was for a bad reason. It could have been a good one, right? B, now that we know about the time jump, it might not happen, right? So knowing the future might change the present, which might change the future."

"What?" Barry asked.

I shook my head. "My head hurts."

~

Oliver and Barry had gone to the CCPD because Oliver wanted Barry to run a view tests.

I walked along the yard outside, sighing.

Felicity walked closer. "Hey. Sorry to interrupt the walking and thinking portion of the morning. Um, John, Laurel and Thea are back, and they've got something."

We walked inside to join Carter, Kendra, Laurel, Thea and John.

"Where are Oliver and Barry?" John asked.

"They went to Barry's lab at the CCPD," I answered. "Caitlin and Cisco are working on the anti-staff gauntlets. What do you guys have?"

Laurel handed a tape to Felicity.

"Beta max," Felicity told us. "Aw, what, did you guys get this off of eBay?"

"Lyla hooked us up," John told us.

"Yeah, well, it's going to take a while to play since we live in a digital world now," Felicity told us, walking toward her laptop, sitting down.

"The tape came from a conspiracy theory group that's interested in Savage," Laurel told us.

"Pentagon had a file on Savage back in '86, but it's all been heavily redacted," John told us.

Felicity got the tape to play on the TV for us to see. "Got it?"

A man was in the video. "Is this on? I hope so. My name is Dr. Aldus Boardman. I'm a professor at St. Roch University. The date is April 8th, 1975. I don't think anyone else knows this, and those that do, don't believe. He's a myth. An urban legend. He has been compared to Machiavelli and Nostradamus. He's gone by many names, but I know him as Vandal Savage, and he will be the death of the world. But I believe there is a way to stop him. Savage is an immortal, Egyptian Priest. His long live is a result of an unearthly calamity. I believe that any object associated with this calamity should be able to undo its effects and kill him. And I suspect that our precious, fragile world may one day depend upon us doing so."

"Well, that's the understatement of the year," Thea told us. "Or, you know, the last 4,000 years."

John looked at Carter. "Do you have any idea what he meant by these objects? This calamity?"

"No," Carter answered. "I--I don't recall a calamity."

"The staff," Kendra told us.

Felicity stood. "The Staff of Horus."

"Yes," Kendra answered. "I think the staff belonged to Savage back in Ancient Egypt."

"You remember?" Carter asked.

Kendra shook her head. "It's a hunch. And if Professor Boardman's guess is right, that staff will help us kill Savage."

"Okay, someone needs to inform Oliver and Barry," Laurel told us.

I nodded.

~

Felicity and I walked into Barry's lab at the CCPD.

Barry was the only one here.

"Hey, we found something, and it might help us kill Savage," I told him.

Barry turned toward us, zooming the packet in his hands into his back pocket. "Okay, that's great. What it is it?"

"What was that?" Felicity asked.

"What was what?" Barry asked.

"You just super-speeded something into your pocket," Felicity told him.

"Oh, um, no, nothing," Barry told us. "Um, well, actually, it's, um, it's something Oliver wanted me to track down." He walked toward a shelf, picking up a chemical. "It's, uh, it's about Damian Darhk."

"I want to see it," Felicity told him.

Barry put the chemical on the shelf, turning to us.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because your boyfriend doesn't want us to see it," Felicity answered.

"I'm sorry," Barry told us. "Oliver specifically asked me--"

"Show it," Felicity told him.

"Okay," Barry told us, taking out the packet, handing it to Felicity.

Felicity looked over the packet of information.

I looked over her shoulder to see. "What's the big deal? It's just a DNA test."

"No, it's not," Felicity told us. She looked up, shaking her head. "I got to go." She looked at me, pointing at Barry. "Fill him in. I just... I'll see you."

Felicity looked really shaken up, walking out, leaving.

I looked at Barry. "What'd you do this time?"

"Wha--me?" Barry asked. "Nothing."

I nodded sarcastically. "Mm-hmm. And that's why Oliver and Felicity both booked it out of here?" Barry sighed, looking away. "What's going on?"

"It was a paternity DNA test," Barry answered. "Oliver gave me two hair samples."

"And you think one of them is his?" I asked. "That's why Felicity took off like that?"

"Yeah," Barry answered.

"So, Oliver's a father?" I asked.

Barry nodded. "Yeah."

I took a deep breath, looking away. "Okay. Just when I thought this couldn't get any crazier."

Barry raised his eyebrows in agreement. "Oh, hey, what is it that you wanted to tell me?"

"We think we found a way to take down Savage," I told him. "For good."

"Yeah, you said that," Barry told me. "How?"

"The staff," I answered. "It was his in Ancient Egypt, and we think it's the only thing that can defeat him now."

~

After dark, I walked outside of the farmhouse to hear Oliver and Felicity arguing.

"But you don't trust me," Felicity told him. "You never will. And how can I be with someone who doesn't trust me?"

Oliver didn't answer. "Felicity..."

Felicity shook her head, turning around, walking away, leaving.

"Are you guys okay?" I asked. Oliver didn't answer. "Oliver? What happened?"

Oliver walked closer. "Nothing. I'm fine."

"Uh, are you sure?" I asked. "I mean, you don't seem fine. You seem out of it."

"Is everyone inside?" Oliver asked.

I nodded. "Yeah."

Oliver walked inside.

I followed.

Oliver looked at the others. "Coming up on Savage's deadline."

"Where's Felicity?" Laurel asked.

Oliver didn't answer, looking at Caitlin and Cisco. "Are the gauntlets working?"

"They have to be," Caitlin told us. "We're out of time."

"I think they'll work," Cisco told us. "That staff's going to go from 'Can't Touch This' to 'Invisible Touch'."

"Savage doesn't know Kendra has access to her full abilities," Oliver told us, turning to face Kendra. "Which makes you our ace in the hole. We're going to put you up against Savage. You attack with the element of surprise. I will distract Savage. Vera will lay down the cover fire. Barry, you speed in, and--"

"Snatch the staff," Barry finished. "I got it."

"Where do you need us?" John asked.

"This is me, Barry, Vera, Kendra and Carter," Oliver told us. "We've got it."

"Ollie!" Thea told him.

"No, we're not risking any more lives tonight than we have to," Oliver told us, walking away.

I looked at Barry, Kendra and Carter. "Suit up."

~

After dark, we went to the Jurgens Industrial building where Savage wanted to meet at. Just Oliver, Barry, Kendra, Carter and me, suited up as Green Arrow, The Flash, Pyra, Hawkgirl and Hawkman.

Savage walked toward us. "You brought them. And dressed for the occasion, I see."

"We're only doing this because two lives aren't worth two cities," Oliver told him.

"Well, in that case, you are wiser than I gave you credit for," Savage told us. He looked at Carter and Kendra. "It's been a lifetime. Still wearing those ridiculous outfits, I see." He looked at Barry, Oliver and me. "You don't need to be here for this." He opened his jacket to show us dozens of knives, pulling out the staff. "The culling has a tendency to be... unsightly." He looked at Carter and Kendra. "Your new friends betrayed you."

"Just do what you're going to do," Carter told him.

Savage looked at Kendra. "It's wonderful to see you again, my love."

"I will never be your love," Kendra told him.

"I know," Savage told her. "That always makes this..." He pulled out a knife. "Easier." He walked closer. "Chay-Ara... parting is such sweet sorrow."

Savage tried to stab Kendra.

Oliver raised his bow to block the move, punching Savage in the face twice.

Barry zoomed toward Savage to try to grab the staff.

Savage pulled the staff out of his reach, using it to hit Oliver in the back of his knees, making him fall. He tried to shoot Oliver with the blue energy from the staff.

I used fire as a shield to save him, using fire to wrap around the staff, pulling it out of Savage's hands, into mine.

Carter grew his wings. "Now, Kendra!"

Kendra tried to grow her wings, but couldn't tap into her power. She looked at Carter, alarmed.

Oliver stood, swinging his bow toward Savage. Savage backed away enough to make him miss, ducking a punch, punching Oliver in the face, making him fall to his knees, kicking him in the face, making him fall to the floor.

I had the gauntlets on my hands, trying to use the staff against Savage, but the blue energy shocked me enough to make me drop it to the floor.

The blue energy started to grow bigger and brighter.

Barry tried to pick up the staff with the gauntlets, but the blue energy also shocked him, growing bigger and brighter. Barry and I both had to hold the staff up just to try to get it under control.

Savage threw knives into Carter's chest.

"Carter!" Kendra told him.

Carter was dead.

Kendra ran toward Savage angrily.

Savage stabbed Kendra in the stomach, letting her body fall.

Oliver stood, trying to shoot Savage with an arrow, but he missed, his mind completely elsewhere.

Barry and I aimed the blue energy at Savage, hitting him, the energy still shocking us, but we fought through the pain.

Barry looked at Oliver. "We've got it! The gauntlets aren't working!"

The blue energy grew bigger and brighter, out of control.

We knew it would swallow the city whole.

Oliver ran closer, taking the staff. "You got to let go."

"No, we're not leaving you," I told him.

"You're fast enough to get away," Oliver told us. "Go!"

"Ollie, no," Barry told him.

"Run, Barry," Oliver told him. "Vera, fly."

The blue energy shocked us enough to throw us through the air, making us fall.

Savage was unharmed picking the staff up, slamming it on the floor, making the blue energy soar around us faster and brighter and deadlier than before.

It burned Oliver away into nothing.

Barry grabbed me, zooming us both out of there as fast as he could.

I looked behind us as the blue energy burned everything away into nothing in its path. Streets, buildings, homes, people.

I knew it would burn us into nothing, too, using fire to fly us faster away from the energy.

We both saw a speed mirage of Barry and me next to us.

The strength and speed of the lightning and of the fire pushed us through time.

We arrived in the warehouse where we had met up with Oliver, Malcolm and Savage.

Oliver and Malcolm were the only ones there.

"Thank you for coming," Oliver told us. "I know this is more than a little crazy."

Barry and I looked at each other in shock.

~

The meeting was going just the way it had gone before.

Barry and I were still shaken up.

Oliver noticed, looking at us. "You all right?"

Barry and I didn't answer.

~

Oliver rode back to the farmhouse on his back.

Barry zoomed there.

I flew there, landing next to them, letting the fire fade, taking off my mask.

"We need to brief the team," Oliver told us. "Come up with some type of counter attack."

"It's not going to work," I told him.

Oliver walked toward us, pulling back his hood and taking off his mask. "What?"

Barry pulled back his mask.

"Mm, nothing," I told him. "Never mind. I shouldn't have said anything."

"What's going on with you two?" Oliver asked.

Barry and I looked at each other.

Barry nodded, turning away.

I looked at Oliver. "Okay, look, this isn't going to make any sense to you, but, we--All right, so we traveled back in time from when we tried to take out Savage. I mean, later, when we tried to take him down in the future, and it doesn't work."

"You're right, that doesn't make sense to me," Oliver told us.

"Our world is stranger than yours," Barry told him.

"Well, maybe we use that to our advantage," Oliver told us. "You say that whatever we do against Savage doesn't work?"

"Yeah," Barry answered.

"Then we come up with a new plan," Oliver told us.

"No," Barry told him. "No, no, no. Okay, look, we can't. We--When we mess with time, it just, it doesn't end well."

"But what you're telling me is that it already doesn't end well," Oliver told us. "People in our line of work, we don't get second chances. We need to take this one."

I nodded. "All right, I hope you're right."

We walked toward the farmhouse.

"All right, let's start with what went wrong," Oliver told us.

"You did," I answered. "When we go up against Savage, your head's not in the game. You're not yourself."

"Why not?" Oliver asked.

I sighed. "Oliver..."

Oliver turned to face us. "Vera. Why not?"

I looked at Barry.

Barry looked at Oliver. "Okay, are you planning on giving me a hair sample to run forensics on in the near future?"

"Yeah," Oliver answered.

"Well, I did," Barry told him. "And you were pretty shaken after the fact."

"And then Felicity found out, and you guys had a pretty big fight, and it sounded like it was over between you two," I told him.

"What was the fight about?" Oliver asked.

Barry sighed. "I'm pretty sure you're someone's father, Oliver." Oliver took this in, shaken, looking away. "So, when we go up against Savage, you're not focused."

"And then, Kendra can't access her powers, and then the tech they're developing to counteract Savage's staff does not work, and..." I trailed off, shaking my head. "Everyone dies, Oliver."

Oliver turned to face us. "This time they won't. This time we do things differently."

~

After dark, everyone was inside the farmhouse.

"Oliver, you were right," Cisco told him. "I don't know how you knew, but you were right. the gauntlets won't work. They're missing a critical element."

"How do you know?" John asked.

"Because I remembered," Kendra answered. She looked at Carter. "I remember how Savage killed us the first time, back in Egypt."

"I've never been able to remember our first death," Carter told us.

"Well, these sky rocks, meteors, they fell, and they completely destroyed the royal palace," Kendra told us.

"During the middle kingdom, Egypt experienced a high level of meteor activity," Felicity told us. We looked at her weirdly. "I know stuff."

"Which is one of the many reasons we love you so much," Laurel told her. "But also doesn't seem to help us stop Savage."

"It's the calamity Professor Boardman was referencing," Kendra told us. "The meteors, they had a glow about them. And Savage's staff had two gemstones with the exact same glow."

"Yeah, the gemstones might be made up of the same element as the meteorite," I told them.

"The Egyptians would use meteorite in their craftsmanship," Felicity told us, walking toward her computer.

"And the minerals glow in proximity to each other," Kendra told us.

"Like Sankara stones," Cisco told us.

"Oh, wait, the Indiana Jones reference is the only thing I understood," Thea told us.

"Two pieces of the same meteorite, like an nth metal, that is the key to counteracting the staff," Cisco told us.

"Believe it or not, this isn't actually the craziest thing I've heard today," Oliver told us.

Barry smiled.

"There's a sample of the meteorite from the middle kingdom at the Keystone City Museum of Natural..." Felicity trailed off. Barry zoomed out of the house, coming back with the meteorite sample. "History."

"Hopefully I got the right one," Barry told us.

"I could synthesize the compatible isotope out of this and coat the gauntlets with it," Cisco told us, taking the meteorite sample from Barry.

"Okay, do it," I told him.

"Savage doesn't know that Kendra has gained access to all of her abilities," Oliver told us, turning to face Kendra. "It makes you our ace in the hole."

"Where do you need us?" John asked.

Oliver nodded. "Suit up."

~

After dark, we went to the Jurgens Industrial building where Savage wanted to meet at. Oliver, Kendra, Cater and me, suited up as Green Arrow, The Flash, Pyra, Hawkgirl and Hawkman, walked in.

"Everyone's in position," Oliver told us.

"All right," Carter told us.

"Let's do it," I told them.

We walked further into the warehouse.

~

The meeting was going like it had before.

Oliver shot Savage in the chest with an arrow.

Carter ran toward Savage, trying to stab him. Savage used the staff to hit him in the side, making him fall away.

"Now, Kendra!" I told her.

Kendra grew her wings, flying toward Savage, pushing him down.

A black van drove right in.

Savage tried to shoot Oliver, Barry and me with the blue energy from the staff.

I used fire as a shield.

The back of the van whirled to face us.

Thea and Laurel jumped out of the back of the van, suited up as Speedy and Black Canary.

Laurel used the canary cry, making a piercing noise fill the entire room.

Savage grabbed his head in pain.

John was in his black suit, shooting his gun at Savage repeatedly.

Savage tried to hit John with the staff. John ducked. Savage hit him in the back, making him fall aside. He spun to try to hit Thea. Thea ducked. Savage used the staff to hit Laurel, making her flip through the air before falling to the floor.

Oliver shot an arrow into Savage's leg, making him fall to the floor.

I used fire to wrap around the staff, pulling it out of Savage's hands, into mine, wearing the gauntlets. "Get clear!" Kendra and Carter grew their wings, grabbing Oliver, Thea, John and Laurel, flying out of the warehouse, leaving. The blue energy glowed from the end of the staff in my hand, but it was controlled and easy to manipulate. "The gauntlets are working."

I shot Savage with the blue energy.

Barry grabbed the staff from the other side, helping me steady it. "It's not working! He's still alive."

I got an idea. "It'll work."

I sent fire through the staff to join in with the blue energy, making both hit Savage in a long, endless stream.

Savage burned away into ash, falling to the floor.

The staff burned away into ash, falling to the floor.

Barry and I looked at each other in surprise.

The others ran back in toward us, standing next to us.

"Did we do it?" Laurel asked. "Is he gone?"

"Yeah, it looks like," Barry answered.

Carter looked at Kendra, smiling. "I knew you could do it."

"I'm having the strangest deja vu," Thea told us.

"You're not the only one," Oliver told her.

We all smiled, looking at the pile of ash on the floor that had been Vandal Savage.

~

Barry, Cisco, Carter, Kendra and I were walking through the town square.

Cisco looked at Carter and Kendra. "So, how do you feel now that Savage is pushing daisies? Does this mean you guys are the immortal ones now and he's the one who gets reincarnated? 'Cause that would suck."

"I just sprouted wings a few days ago, and I'm just trying to wrap my head around that," Kendra told us.

"He does raise a good point, though," Barry told us. "Savage is gone for good, right?"

"I don't know," Carter told us. "We never defeated him before." He looked at Kendra. "But we're free."

Carter and Kendra hugged.

Cisco rolled his eyes. "Get a room."

Carter and Kendra pulled away.

"You finally have the rest of your lives in front of you," I told them. "Have you thought about what you're going to do?"

"Carter says in our past lives, we used to help people," Kendra told us. "And after everything you guys have done for me, I think I should give that a try."

Kendra looked at Cisco regretfully.

"You make it sound like this try is happening somewhere else," I told her.

"In our prior incarnation, we used to live in St. Roch, and we really liked it there," Carter told us.

"Could Cisco and I have a moment?" Kendra asked.

"Of course," Carter answered, walking away, leaving.

Barry and I walked away in a different direction.

"Well, we did it," I told him. "Everyone's alive."

Barry sighed. "I'm still wondering what else could happen since we messed with time. Last time we messed with time, time messed with us back."

I turned to face him. "Look around you, Barry." I gestured around the people bustling around the town square. "People are here today. They're alive today, when we all could have been dead if we hadn't changed the future. Okay, and when we changed the future where Mardon and Snart were involved, we stopped Mardon from making a tsunami hit this city."

"And time messed with us back by making Snart, Lisa and Rory kidnap Cisco to make them new guns, and also kidnapping his brother to make him do so, which also resulted them in finding out who we really were," Barry replied.

"But that wasn't exactly devastating, was it?" I asked. "I mean, what have they done to make us regret not letting the tsunami wipe out this city? And what could happen that is worse than a major wave of blue energy burn this city into ashes?" Barry sighed, knowing I was right. I took his hands, looking around. "All of these people, everything around us... They're here because we changed the future. We saved them."

Barry sighed. "Guardian angels." I looked at him, puzzled. "That's what Oliver said we could be the first time he came to Central City after you woke up from the coma, and he saw what we could do together. I believed him then, and I know it now."

"So, you're saying that you're not so worried about what will happen now, since we already stopped the baddest thing that could've happened?" I asked.

Barry nodded, smiling a small smile. "Yeah, we're good. I just wanted to make it a little better."

Barry pulled me into a kiss, a hand on my cheek. We continued to kiss for a moment, pulling away.

I leaned my head against his, eyes still closed, shaking my head. "I hate time travel."

Barry chuckled. "Me, too."

We smiled small smiles, walking off together, hand in hand.

Like I said.

We had already stopped the worst thing that could have happened.

What could have been more worse than having everyone and everything burn to ashes?
