Chapter 5__The Darkness and the Light
We were back in STAR Labs, in the infirmary lab.
I was finishing recovering from the cyanide poisoning in the fire I had absorbed the night before, sitting up.
"You could have died last night," Caitlin told me.
"I could have died a lot of times," I replied. "You had a cure. Thank you for saving me. Again. But I think we all have more worries."
We walked into the Cortex to talk to Harrison Wells, everybody in shock aside from him.
Harrison was holding a book written by Eobard Thawne. "Very strange to be holding your autobiography, especially when you didn't write it, and it's not about you."
"Dr. Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, meet Dr. Harrison Wells from Earth 2," Barry told them.
"Hi," Cisco told him warily.
"Hi," Harrison told us.
"So, let me get this straight," Cisco told him. "You're the doppelganger of the man who murdered Barry's mom and conned Future Vera/Pyra into starting the fire that killed her entire family, and is responsible for both Ronnie and Eddie's deaths."
"Yeah, but he's not even the doppelganger of the Dr. Wells that we knew, because that Dr. Wells' body had been taken over by the Reverse Flash, who was really Eoboard Thawne, and Eddie's distant relative from the future," Caitlin told us.
"Yeah, I didn't follow any of that," Harrison told us. "I'm my own man. I had nothing to do with the murder of Barry's mother, the death of Vera's family, or your friends."
"You told us you have proof of your identity," I told him.
Harrison pulled out the container that Stein had thrown into the breach the other day from his bag. "This almost hit me when I went through the portal. Your stabilized breach downstairs connects directly to the STAR Labs on my Earth."
"I want to run some tests on you," Caitlin told him.
"I'll be genetically indistinguishable from my Earth 1 counterpart," Harrison told us. "Your tests will reveal nothing."
"Great," Caitlin told him. "Still gonna run them."
"Be my guest," Harrison told her.
Cisco whispered to Barry and me. "Why are we even listening to him? How do we know he's not evil like the other guy?"
"He saved our lives last night," Barry told them. "The question is why."
I looked at Harrison. "I'm guessing you didn't travel between dimensions just to meet the Flash and Pyra."
"That's exactly what I did," Harrison told us. "I came here to help you, to stop your greatest enemies. Zoom and Phoenix." He looked over our reactions. "I see you've all already heard of them."
"Yeah, they have been sending metahumans from your world through the breaches to fight us," I told him.
"Well, they're the symptoms," Harrison told us. "Zoom and Phoenix are the plague, one that's infected my world, and now they're coming for yours."
"What do you know about them?" Barry asked.
"Everything," Harrison answered. "I created them. I'm responsible for all the Earth 2 metahumans, a fact I've ignored for far too long, but now I'm doing something about it."
"Yeah, well, we're batting a thousand against these breachers," Cisco told him.
"You're batting a thousand, Crisco?" Harrison asked. "What's your sample size? Ten? Less? Phoenix and Zoom are obsessed with being the best. They will never allow there to be another speedster or another blaze in the multiverse, and they're gonna keep sending these metas here, one after the next, all with the same goal. To kill Pyra and the Flash. Unless we stop them together."
"Last time we listened to a guy with your face, some bad things went down," Cisco told him.
"We lost people we cared about," Caitlin told him.
"Everyone loses someone they care about, Snow," Harrison told her. "The real test of character is what you do once they're gone."
Joe walked in, seeing Harrison, drawing his gun, shooting three times.
Barry zoomed to catch all three bullets before they hit and killed Harrison. "Joe! Put the gun down."
Joe walked closer. "How is he still alive?" I held Joe back, pushing the barrel of his gun down. Joe pointed at Harrison. "How are you still alive?"
"I don't know," Harrison told him. "Because you missed?"
"Hey, I'm trying to keep him from shooting you," I told him. "You're not helping."
Barry led Joe to the door. "Let's take a walk, all right? It's all good."
Barry led Joe out.
Caitlin looked at me. "We know two people who can verify everything that this guy just said."
I nodded. "Yeah. You go get them I'll keep an eye on... Dr. Wells."
"Okay, can we not use the name 'Dr. Wells'?" Cisco asked. He looked at Harrison. "I'm just gonna call you 'Harry'. And I'm gonna go get a drink with Barry."
Caitlin and Cisco walked out, leaving.
Harrison looked at me. "I don't suppose you have a Big Belly Burger in this universe, do you?"
I sighed, shaking my head. "This isn't happening."
I turned away.
~
Cisco had told Barry where to find a new metahuman, at the bank. Barry had gone, and saved some people, but he couldn't stop her from getting away.
Harrison, Barry, Cisco and I were standing in the Cortex.
"Her name is Dr. Light," Harrison told us. "Small-time thief on my Earth until exposure to the dark matter from the particle accelerator and became a metahuman with the ability to derive power from starlight."
"Oh, very cool," Cisco told us.
"Stars having a temperature of 5,300 degree kelvin and a blinding luminosity, I would say, 'Not very cool at all'," Harrison told us.
"You know, our Dr. Wells may have been evil, but you're just a dick," I told him. Cisco chuckled, giving me a handshake. Barry tried to give me a look, though by the expression, it was obvious he thought it was funny and true, too. "Okay, so, obviously, either Phoenix or Zoom brought her here from your Earth like the others."
"Out of the list of Dr. Light's known associates, I guarantee Phoenix," Harrison told us. "Now that we know that, we can use that to gain advantage."
"What do you mean?" Barry asked.
"We capture Dr. Light and use her to lure Zoom and Phoenix here," Harrison answered.
Jay, Quinn and Caitlin walked in.
Quinn glared at Harrison. "You are insane. Okay, we are not luring them anywhere."
"Apparently, they know each other, and Jay and Quinn are not fans of this Harrison Wells," Caitlin told us.
I nodded. "Oh."
"Well, well, well," Harrison told them. "Like everyone else, I assumed Earth 2 Flash and Pyra were dead. Why am I not surprised to find Jay Garrick and Quinn Tate here, still alive, and in hiding a full universe away from Zoom and Phoenix?"
"We're not in hiding," Jay told him. "The singularity pulled us here, and we lost our powers."
"Is that right?" Harrison asked.
"Yeah, that's right," Quinn answered.
"Well, whatever the case, in your absence, they have only gotten more powerful," Harrison told them. "Barry, Vera, you have to defeat them now while you still can."
"No, this isn't the time to be reckless," Jay told us. "We don't even know why they sent Dr. Light here. She's a thief, not a killer."
"Zoom and Phoenix can make people do things out of character," Harrison told us. "Thief or not, she'll kill both of you."
"All right, look, hey, we can decide what to do with Light later," I told them. "First we have to find her, okay?"
Harrison walked out, leaving.
I sighed.
Barry looked at Cisco. "Hey, how did you that she was breaking into the bank?"
Cisco looked nervous. "I got an alert on my phone. There is a little ring-a-ding every time, like, there's a robbery at a bank."
"What?" I asked.
"But you know what?" Cisco asked, walking toward the computer. "I think I can get the STAR Labs satellite to scan for any irregular solar radiation emissions and we can fight Dr. Light's light."
"Okay, I'm gonna also call Joe, see if CCPD has any leads," Barry told us, taking out his phone. He nodded from Jay and Quinn to Harrison in the next room. "Why don't we keep them apart until I get back."
"I am sure that won't be a problem," Caitlin told us.
I walked out into the corridor to be alone, leaning against the wall, sighing.
Barry walked closer, concerned. "Hey. You okay?"
I shook my head barely, looking down. "I just had to spend the entire day babysitting the doppelganger of the guy that your mother's murderer and the one that manipulated me into starting the fire that killed my family, who took the shape of that face to give us these powers and taught us to use them for good, to save people, while he saved us, while he got us to look up to him, and..."
Barry was confused by the way I had said it. "You lost me."
I chuckled without humor, shaking my head. "I lost myself."
Barry smiled a small smile. "But I get what you mean." He seemed to be thinking. "You know that feeling when you feel completely overwhelmed by everything that you have to do in a day, and it feels like the one thing that you actually want to do is the thing that gets lost?"
"Okay, now I'm the one that's confused by you," I told him.
Barry hesitated, not knowing how to say whatever he wanted to say. "Well..."
"Is this the 'first kiss' talk?" I asked.
"In a manner of speaking, along with an... add on," Barry answered.
I smiled a small smile, confused yet amused. "Add on?"
"Yeah, sort of," Barry answered. "I've been thinking, for a while, now, actually... would you want to get dinner with me sometime."
"Barry Allen, is this you asking me out on a real, honest to God date instead of just being superheroes and hanging out at Jitters?" I asked.
Barry smiled. "Yeah. Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing, Vera Mitchell."
I let the small smile fade, shaking my head. "Barry, there's just too much going on right now, okay?"
"There's always gonna be too much going on," Barry pointed out. "Okay, because the summer break you took away from the team..." I looked away, knowing he was just kidding. "We said no because we were trying to take down Wells. And then what happened happened, and..." I looked at him. Barry sighed. "You know the rest. And if we say, 'Not now, later when everything calms down', nothing is ever gonna happen, because things are never gonna slow down. For either of us. I don't know about you, but I don't want to wait anymore."
I smiled a small smile. "I don't either."
Barry smiled. "Um, tomorrow? We can grab an early dinner."
I nodded. "Okay." I looked down to notice that his phone was still in his hands. "Weren't you supposed to call Joe?"
Barry remembered. "I was, wasn't I?" He looked at me, shaking his head. "Just had to ruin the moment."
I chuckled, pointing toward the Cortex. "I'm gonna be..."
Barry nodded. "Okay."
"Yeah," I told him, walking toward the Cortex.
Barry made a call. "Hey, Joe."
~
Everyone but Cisco and Harrison were back in the Cortex.
Cisco walked in. "Harry's starting to get on my nerves."
"The silent alarm just went off at the Bank of Central City," Caitlin told us.
"That's gotta be Dr. Light," I told them.
"Could be a trap," Barry told us.
"Guys, trust me, Dr. Light is not a killer," Jay told us. "You can talk to her."
Quinn nodded.
"Okay," I told them.
Barry and I turned to leave.
~
At the bank, Dr. Light used starlight to burn a hole in the vault to walk inside and make off with the cash.
Barry zoomed in front of the money, as Flash. "Looking for this?" Dr. Light looked from Barry in front of her to me behind her, as Pyra. "We know who sent you here to kill us. Good news. You don't have to do that."
"Not if I can get out of town with that cash," Dr. Light told us.
"And then what?" I asked. "They're not gonna like that you ditched them, right? We can help you."
"Nobody can protect me from them," Dr. Light told us, making starlight emanate from both her hands.
"All right, why don't we take it down a lumen, have a normal conversation, all right?" Barry asked. Dr. Light let the light fade. "Thank you." Dr. Light hit the button on her mask that retracted the piece covering her face, revealing who she was, shocking us both. "Linda? Linda Park?"
"How do you know my name?" Dr. Light asked.
"I don't understand," Barry told us.
"This was a mistake," Dr. Light told us, throwing starlight throughout the room.
I turned completely into flame so the light didn't have an effect on me or my sight. I returned to normal when the light faded, noticing that Dr. Light had disappeared and that Barry was on his knees in pain. "Where is she?"
Barry groaned in pain, holding his hands to his eyes. "I don't know."
"Barry?" I asked.
"I can't see," Barry told me. "Vera, I can't see."
~
I had gotten Barry back to STAR Labs so we could try to fix him.
Caitlin was checking his vitals.
"I still can't see," Barry told us. "How long is this gonna last?"
"You're suffering from solar retinopathy," Caitlin told him. "Your retinas are severely damaged. You're lucky you're not permanently blind."
"But with your rapid regeneration abilities, your sight should return soon," Jay told him.
"6.25 hours by my estimation," Harrison told us. Quinn rolled her eyes. "All this could have been avoided if you just stopped Light instead of chitchatting with her."
"She caught them off guard," Quinn told him in annoyance.
"Always an excuse with you, right?" Harrison asked. "Barry's a speedster. Vera's a blaze. How could she possibly do that?"
"Because Light looks exactly like my ex-girlfriend, Linda Park," Barry answered. "Vera knows her, too."
"That's why they sent her, because they knew you'd hesitate," Harrison told us.
"That means they had to have known somehow that Linda was Barry's ex," Cisco told us.
"Which is why you, Vera, have to act now, before they send another double from your lives," Harrison told me.
"Right now, I'm more worried about Linda," I told them. "When we saw who was under the mask, Barry said her name. What if Linda didn't even realize that she had a doppelganger here until that?"
"The first thing that Atom Smasher did when he crossed the breach was to kill his doppelganger," Barry told us.
"Yeah, but Light's not like Atom Smasher," Jay told us.
"We should keep an eye on your Linda," Quinn told us.
"All right, I'll go," Barry told us, standing, bumping into me. "Sorry."
"Bro," Cisco told him.
"Barry," I told him.
Barry turned back. 'What?" He backed away, bumping into the wall between the infirmary lab and the Cortex. "Whoa."
Barry stumbled toward another wall.
I walked closer, guiding him into the Cortex. "Okay, okay. You can't do anything until your sight returns." Barry tried to walk toward the door. I pulled him toward the desk. "No, no, no, come on. Here's the little rail here. I'll do it."
"I'm coming with you," Barry told me.
The others walked closer.
"Barry--" Jay started.
"There's really no point in trying to argue with him," I told them. "He's almost as stubborn as I am."
"Hey," Barry told me.
I looked at Barry. "That's meant as a good thing."
Barry nodded. "Oh."
~
Barry was staying in the car outside the news station where Iris and Linda both worked, sunglasses on after dark.
I was already suited up, hidden in the dark of the van, without the mask on. "You know, I'm pretty sure this is the first time metahumans have been on a car stakeout."
Barry chuckled. "Pretty sure this the first time one of them's been blind during the stakeout."
We chuckled.
"So, all this talk about Zoom and Phoenix, Jay and Quinn, you and me," I told him. "Speedsters and blazes. Or any metahuman, for that matter. They all nearly died when the particle accelerators blew, and whatever they nearly died with, that's what they got as a superpower. Getting struck by lightning or being burned alive. We've all cheated death. And the ones that went into the business that we did..."
"We cheat death a lot more than normal metas," Barry finished. He looked curious. "Wait, is there such a thing as a regular metahuman?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "I don't think so."
"No?" Barry asked.
"No," I answered.
Barry smiled. "Okay."
"You know, you were right, before," I told him.
"About?" Barry asked.
I sighed. "Pretty much... everything. Why I stayed away for so long. Why I stopped believing in myself, in my powers, in pretty much everything about me. It was... fear that I would do what I had done again. Or what Wells made me do. But, uh, part of me always believed I could be going down the road that Phoenix is right now because my power it fire, and fire can hurt a lot of people and damage a lot of things."
"Yeah, but fire is also a symbol of purity," Barry replied.
I couldn't help a smile, looking down. "Can you just let me say this?"
Barry smiled a small smile. "Sure."
"It's just... a few things in this life taught me not to be afraid," I told him. "And you're one of them."
Barry feigned curiosity. "Oh, so you're saying that fear is what holds people back from who they should be? I couldn't have said it any better myself. Oh, wait. I have."
I smiled, shaking my head. "God, shut up."
We both laughed.
Barry took off his sunglasses, but still couldn't see. "No, you have a great smile."
"How do you know I'm smiling?" I asked.
Barry chuckled. "Just a hunch."
I looked at Barry, smiling a small smile, thinking when I saw Dr. Light breaking into the news station. "Oh, and that's my cue."
"Be careful," Barry told me.
I put on my mask. "You know me."
I got out of the car, running inside.
Dr. Light looked at Linda. "Hello, gorgeous."
"Everybody out, now!" I told them.
Everyone ran out, except for Linda and Iris.
Dr. Light looked at them. "Except you."
I stood in her way of getting to them. "I don't think so."
"No, no, she's leaving with us," Iris told her.
"Not today," Dr. Light told us.
"What do you want from me?" Linda asked.
Dr. Light's hands glowed with starlight. "Your life."
~
I stepped closer to Dr. Light. "You've never killed anyone before, so you don't have to do it now."
"It's not murder if it's your double, right?" Dr. Light asked.
"Why are you doing this?" Linda asked.
"It's the only way that I can stay alive," Dr. Light told her. "To become you. I'm sorry, Linda."
Dr. Light tried to shoot starlight at Linda.
I used fire as a shield, looking at Iris. "Get her out of here!"
Iris led Linda toward the door.
I pushed the fire and the starlight back toward Dr. Light, making her fall to the floor and her mask fall off.
Linda stopped when she saw that Dr. Light looked exactly like her. "How is this possible?"
"You couldn't understand," Dr. Light told her, looking at me. "And on either Earths, Flash and Pyra are still a pain in the ass. Especially when fire can reverse the damage of light."
I tilted my head barely. "It's because of opposites. And it's a pain in the ass... for you." Dr. Light shot starlight toward me. I used fire as a shield, trying to wrap fire around her to subdue her. Dr. Light emanated with starlight, making Linda, Iris and me fall back as she disappeared with the light. I sat up, groaning in pain. "How the hell does she keep vanishing like that?"
~
Dressed normally instead of in the suit, I was standing outside of the news station with Barry, helping him inside because he still couldn't see, toward the mask on the floor.
"So no casualties?" Barry asked.
"I can still do the job without you, you know," I told him.
Barry chuckled. "Uh, Joe arranged a security detail around the clock for Linda, just to be sure. Iris is taking her to them right now."
I picked up the mask. "And I knocked of Light's mask during the fight before she disappeared again. You think this can help us find her?"
Barry shook his head. "Any evidence on this is just gonna match Linda. We'll think of something else."
I looked at Barry. "There's something else she said, too. Fire and light being opposites, meaning my power can reverse the damage of her power."
"What does that mean?" Barry asked.
I took off Barry's sunglasses. "I think I can help with this."
I put a hand to either of his cheeks, kissing him for a long moment, using heat to heal. We pulled away after a moment.
Barry opened his eyes, a little stunned, shaking his head a little as if it was a fluke. "How did you..."
I smiled, pressing my lips together. "Now you can see, right?"
"I can," Barry answered, still surprised. "That was some kiss." I chuckled. "How did you know that using heal would bring my sight back? I mean, I get the part about what you and Light talked about, but that was still a bit of a stretch."
I shrugged slightly. "Just a hunch."
Barry nodded sarcastically. "Right."
We smiled.
~
Barry and I walked into STAR Labs, in the Cortex, with everyone else.
"I think I have a theory on how Dr. Light keeps disappearing like she does," Cisco told us.
"That's fascinating, Ramon," Harrison told him. "Save it for later." He looked at me. "I told you before, you cannot reason with someone under Phoenix and Zoom's influence."
"Apparently, we can, if I could stop her from killing anybody," I told them.
Harrison ignored me, looking at Jay and Quinn. "This whole thing is because of the two of you." He held a hand toward Barry and me. "They doubt themselves because of you, but believe me, Vera and Barry can do what you could not. They can stop them."
"We spent two years hunting them," Quinn told him.
"Wrong," Harrison told them. "They hunted you. You spent the last two years of your lives running, running, running from them."
"They would have killed us just like they will Barry and Vera if you lead them down this path," Jay told him.
"No, because they are not like you," Harrison told them. "They run toward danger, not from it, because they're not cowards."
Jay punched Harrison in the face, making him turn away and fall into the desk, surprising us. Harrison turned back, punching Jay in the face, trying to punch him in the stomach repeatedly. Jay raised his arm to block his moves, punching him in the stomach. They continued to grapple and trying to hurt the other.
I pushed them apart. "Enough!"
Harrison walked out, leaving.
~
Barry, Harrison and I were talking in the bunker of the Labs.
"You were pretty hard on Jay and Quinn in there," Barry told him.
"Maybe you should be hard on them, too," Harrison told us. "I've seen what you can do." He looked at Barry. "I've calculated how fast you can run." He looked at me. "And I've seen what you can do with your powers. You two should be teaching Quinn and Jay, not the other way around."
"You know, before we learned that the other Wells was the man who killed our family, we looked up to him," I told him. "He was our mentor, actually."
"So, my doppelganger, a man who looks exactly like me, betrayed you," Harrison told us. "Mm. I'm sorry, but I'm not him, so you need to listen to me when I say you can take care of Phoenix and Zoom, and all we have to do..." He snapped his fingers. "Is capture Dr. Light."
"We thought about testing the mask for Light's DNA, but it would only have Linda's," Barry told him.
"The mask?" Harrison repeated. "What mask?"
I sighed. "Light's mask."
~
We stood up in the Cortex with the others again, looking at Dr. Light's mask on the desk.
"How did you get this?" Harrison asked.
"I shot it off Dr. Light when she attacked Linda," I answered.
"You know how to use the mask to find Light?" Quinn asked.
"Yes, I do," Harrison answered, pointing at Cisco. "All we have to do is give it to him."
"Why me?" Cisco asked.
"Because you have powers," Harrison answered.
Cisco laughed nervously. "What are you talking about?"
Harrison showed us his watch. "I developed this watch to detect metahumans." He held the watch toward me. The watch beeped, the lights turning red. He held the watch toward Barry. The watch beeped, the lights turning red. He held the watch toward Caitlin. The watch stayed silent, the lights blue. He looked at Cisco. "You never got an alert on your phone. You never reprogrammed the STAR Labs satellite." He turned to the rest of us. "And this is why." He held the watch toward Cisco. The watch beeped, the lights turning red. Cisco sighed, looking up. "He's a metahuman."
Harrison lowered his arm to his side.
Cisco sighed, closing his eyes.
~
Harrison walked away from Cisco.
Barry stepped closer. "Cisco, have you known about this, and you didn't say anything to us?"
"Yeah, I was gonna tell you," Cisco told us. "Thanks a lot, Harry. I swear I was, but I didn't. I was just--I was afraid."
"Afraid of what?" I asked.
"Dr. Wells said the dark matter gave me this--this gift," Cisco told us. "He said that one day I'd thank him for it. What if I become like him?"
"Cisco, I don't think any of us would become evil if we all of the sudden got powers, even if they were from Dr. Wells," Caitlin told him.
"Yeah, maybe you're right," Cisco told us. "I should have said something. That's my fault. I'm sorry."
"Well, you can be sorry later, because right now, we have to use your powers to find Dr. Light," Harrison told him.
"Cisco, your abilities, how do they work?" Quinn asked.
"Uh, I get these feelings sometimes, these vibes," Cisco answered. "Visions of the breachers when they come to this Earth. I just... I'm not sure what triggers it. Sometimes it just happens. Sometimes, it's when I'm touching something of theirs."
"Touch the mask," Harrison told him. "You want to find Dr. Light? Do it."
Cisco hesitantly laid a hand on the mask, exhaling. He seemed confused. "Hmm." He tapped the mask, taking his hand away. "I don't think it's working."
"Try again," Harrison told him. Cisco didn't move. "Try again!"
"Whoa," Barry told him.
Cisco laid his hand on the mask, taking his hand away after a moment. "I'm sorry, it's not--"
"Again!" Harrison told him.
"I can't control it," Cisco told us.
"Because you're afraid," Harrison told him, picking up the mask.
"I'm telling you, I don't know how it works," Cisco told us. "I can't just make it happen."
"I'm telling you, yes, you can!" Harrison told him, pushing the mask into Cisco's chest.
Cisco gasped, looking lost in thought. "South Plaza train station, platform 15."
Harrison looked at Barry and me. "What are you waiting for?"
~
Suited up as Flash and Pyra, we got to the train station, milling with people.
"Okay, guys, the platform's crowded," Barry told us. "Are you sure she's here?"
"She should be wearing a black trench coat," Cisco told us.
I looked around. "Black trench coat. Found her."
I looked toward Barry, nodding.
Barry zoomed about to get everybody out.
I walked toward Dr. Light.
Dr. Light sighed, walking closer, taking off her trench coat, revealing she was still wearing her suit. "Why won't you just let me leave?"
"I can't let you leave," I told her. "You tried to kill Linda Park."
"It's the only way that I can be free from Zoom and Phoenix, unless I kill you and the Flash," Dr. Light told me.
"I can't let you do that either, so we've got a problem," I told her.
"We'll see," Dr. Light told me, trying to shoot me with starlight.
I ducked back, making her miss, ducking behind a beam nearby, turning to look around the other side of it to shoot fire toward her. Dr. Light used starlight as a shield. Barry had gotten all the people out, zooming toward Dr. Light from behind, pushing her to the ground a few feet ahead. Dr. Light stood, shooting starlight toward Barry. Barry zoomed out of the way. I used fire to fly up into the sky, but not too far up. Dr. Light shot starlight toward me. I used fire as a shield, using it to push both streams toward her hard enough to make her flip back through the air and hit against a beam, making her fall unconscious.
I landed on the ground, letting the fire fade, looking at Barry.
Barry stopped next to me, smiling a small smile.
~
Everyone was gathered in the Cortex.
"Dr. Light is safely locked in the pipeline," Caitlin told us.
"Nicely done," Cisco told us.
"Wells, thank you for helping them put away Dr. Light," Iris told him.
"So what now?" Joe asked.
Barry sighed. "We do what Dr. Wells said. We use her to lure Zoom and Phoenix here, end this once and for all."
"You can't be serious," Jay told us.
"More breachers are gonna come," Barry told us. "More innocent people may die. I can't let this happen anymore."
"You're making a mistake," Jay told us. "Okay, they are a nightmare you can't wake up from."
"I've already had my worst nightmare," I told them. "His name was Reverse Flash, and I spent a long time being afraid of him. I'm not gonna be afraid anymore."
"You're not ready to fight them by yourselves," Quinn told us.
"That's just it, Quinn," I told her. "We're not gonna fight them by ourselves. We've got all of them to help us. We've got Jay. We've got you."
Jay shook his head. "No, I can't in good conscience help you when I know it'll only lead to both of you losing your powers, or even worse, your deaths."
"Optimism must be an Earth 1 thing," Cisco told us.
Quinn looked over all of us, pointing at Harrison. "You all need to ask yourself why this man, for years, wouldn't admit that he was responsible for the particle accelerator exploding underground. He may not be Harrison Wells from your Earth, but he has just as many secrets as the one you knew."
Jay and Quinn walked out, leaving.
~
The next day, Barry, Caitlin and I were sitting at a table in Jitters.
I sighed, looking down.
"Are you okay?" Barry asked.
"Yeah," I answered. "I just... I was getting used to Jay and Quinn being part of the team."
"Well, look, they're heroes," Barry told us. "They always seem to show up just when you need them."
Cisco walked closer with coffee, sitting down next to Barry, showing him a piece of paper with a girl's number. "Yo, peep that."
"Wow," Barry told him.
Cisco looked at Barry and me. "That's how it's done."
"Nice," Barry told him.
"Going on a date next week," Cisco told us. "You two could learn a few tricks from me, huh?"
I chuckled. "Shut up."
Cisco took a drink. "Mm, not until Flyra starts living their actual, every day lives again."
Barry chuckled. "Things are looking up for Cisco Ramon."
"I guess so," Cisco told us. "Still stuck with these powers, though. Just don't know how to feel about them."
"Hey, look, you don't gotta go through it alone," I told him.
"And now you need a cool name," Caitlin told him.
"Oh, snap," Cisco told us. "You're totally right." He sighed. "I gotta think about this one. Well, you know me. It's gonna be perfect."
Caitlin nodded. "Mm-hmm."
"Something that really sings, you know?" Cisco asked. "Something like..."
"Vibe," I told them.
"Vibe?" Caitlin repeated.
Barry seemed impressed. "Vibe."
Cisco seemed to love it, smiling. "Vibe."
We clinked our coffee cups, taking a drink.
