Chapter 25__Races
We were still on the rooftop.
Natalia was restraining Henry with fire, using fire to keep Barry, Quinn and me back. She used fire to burn the three of us, to bring us to our knees in agony.
Quinn and I tried to use fire to fight back to make Natalia stop torturing us with fire, but she was using her fire to siphon just enough of our power to make us weak.
Natalia burned Henry alive.
Barry screamed in horror and devastation. "No!" We were completely in shock, still being burned beyond compare, though we were more horrified and devastated by Henry's death than we were about our own pain. Natalia let Henry's burning body fall. "Dad? Dad, hey, look at me." Natalia let us go, letting the fire fade. We fell to the ground, breathing heavily in agony. Barry and I crawled toward Henry. I absorbed the fire flickering around him into myself in hopes of saving him. "Look at me. Dad, don't leave." Barry and I were both crying. "Not again, not again. Dad! Come on, come on, come on. Hey, it's all right. No. Dad..."
We had to watch Henry die from his burns.
Barry cried brokenly, sobbing.
I held him in pain. "No. Barry..."
"I told you family was a weakness," Natalia told us. We all glared at her in hatred. "You feel the anger, don't you? You all do. Now, Quinn, you can say goodbye to everyone that you had called friend on this Earth, because they will know that all of this is because of you." Quinn glared at her in hate and pain, using fire to fly toward Natalia, pushing her against the roof. "There you go, Quinn. Use your anger. Just like I did. The anger and hatred will consume you, just like it did me."
Natalia used fire to push Quinn off of her, using fire to fly. Quinn used fire to chase her in rage, tackling Natalia from the sky, making her slam into a building. Natalia kicked Quinn off of her, using fire to burn her more than she already was, siphoning her power, making her fall to the ground, landing in front of her.
Quinn stood, beating Natalia repeatedly, taking off her mask, pulling her up, burning her. "I got you, Natalia. I got--"
Natalia laughed. "Embrace your anger, Quinn. End me." Quinn couldn't do it, crying in anger and hate. Natalia smiled. "So close, Quinn. I knew you couldn't do it."
Natalia continued to burn Quinn, making her scream in pain.
I landed down behind Natalia, using my fire to burn her in fury, making her scream, saving Quinn. "How does it feel to be the one to scream for a change?"
Natalia used fire to throw me off of her to tbe ground, smirking. "You're almost ready, Vera."
Natalia used fire to fly away.
Quinn stood, breathing heavily. We looked at us, both of us heavily burned from the fight, and reeling in sadness from Henry's death.
~
It was a few days later.
We were at the funeral for Henry in the drizzling rain, using umbrellas. Cisco and Caitlin shared an umbrella. Harrison and Jessie shared an umbrella. Joe and Iris shared an umbrella. Wally and Quinn shared an umbrella. Barry and I shared an umbrella, and we and Quinn were still slightly burned from the confrontation with Natalia.
Henry was buried next to Nora.
The priest read from his Bible. "And comfort us today with the word of your promise as we return our brother to the Earth and leave us with the hope that one day, we'll meet again."
The pastor walked away.
Barry looked at me, crying silently.
I nodded, tears in my eyes.
Barry didn't know how to begin. "Uh... my father's..." He shook his head. "I can't do this right now."
"It's okay, Barry," Iris told him.
"Henry Allen," Joe told us. "Henry suffered too great losses in his life. He lost his wife, Nora, and he lost Barry. He suffered guilt, embarrassment, ridicule, shame, and everything that comes with being blamed for a crime he didn't commit. Henry Allen was proof that love can get you through the darkest of days. And that love will keep him alive in all of our hearts."
Quinn took a rose from nearby, laying it on Henry's grave. "I'm gonna find her. I promise you..." She looked over all of us. "All of you, that I'm gonna end this."
Quinn walked away.
~
That night, we were in the West house, except for Quinn, who thought it would be disrespectful to be here.
Barry stood at the window, looking outside. I sat nearby the fireplace.
Wally walked toward us. "Hey."
"Hey," I told him.
"I thought maybe you should eat something," Wally told us
"I'm not hungry," Barry told him. "Thank you, though."
Wally put the plates of food on the table next to him. "Here. Barry, Vera, um... I had no idea that you were the Flash and Pyra. What you did for me, all the things that you've done for everyone, this whole city... and now this with Henry and Quinn, and Zoom and Phoenix.... I'm so sorry."
"Thanks, Wally," Barry told him.
"If there's anything either of you need, just say the word," Wally told us.
I nodded. "All right."
"Why would Natalia kill your dad to get to Quinn, though?" Wally asked.
"To get us all to turn against her," I answered. "So that she has to stand alone against her. So that we would blame her and leave her alone defenseless."
"Guys, they're still out there," Barry told us. "We need to come up with a plan."
"They can crack open breaches to Earth 2," Cisco told us. "I mean, if they can do that, what else can they do that we don't know about?"
"Right after Natalia almost killed Quinn by trying to take her power, she told me I was almost ready," I told them.
"Almost ready for what?" Iris asked.
"I don't know," I told them. "But I do know it has to do with the fact that she was egging Quinn on to kill her or this would just keep happening."
"Like she's trying to turn you both into killers to destroy you," Caitlin told me.
"Yep, classic psychopath," Cisco told us. "Why can't they ever just say what they want you to do? We also have to figure out why I keep vibing Earth 2 being ripped to shreds."
"Seriously," Joe told us.
"It's like I'm watching Transformers in 4D, but like, 10 times more realistic. And with much better acting."
"Look, if you can vibe the future, we need to stop them before that happens," Joe told him.
"I'm gonna get some air, all right?" Barry asked, walking out.
Joe and Iris looked at me.
I nodded. "I got it."
I walked outside to see Barry sitting on the porch steps, sitting next to him.
"When I was in the speed force, I felt like I'd finally come to grips with her death," Barry told me. "With not saving her when I went back. And then, the moment when I'm finally at the place where I could move on, my father's taken from me. How am I ever supposed to find peace with that?"
"I don't know, Barry," I told him sadly. "But you're gonna have to find a way to do that or it's gonna tear you apart."
"I just miss him so much already," Barry told me.
I took Barry's hand in mine. "I know."
"What did you see when you were in the fire force?" Barry asked.
"I saw my family," I answered. "My parents, my brother and sister. They helped me get to the point where I could accept what had happened and that it wasn't because of me. But I still feel guilty, Barry. And I still miss them so much. But we have to move on. Because if we don't, we're never going to."
Barry nodded sadly. "I know."
~
Third person
Quinn was in the place that she was staying, using fire to burn it all because she wasn't home, and she blamed herself for everything that was happening. She looked as if she was going to let herself burn in the building.
Hunter zoomed inside, taking Quinn outside in front of the building. "Bad time, Quinn?"
Quinn pushed him away angrily. "Did you know?"
Quinn formed fire on her hands to try to punch Hunter repeatedly.
Hunter used his speed to dodge the moves, though he got hit and spit out blood, grabbing her by the wrists to stop her, holding them down in front of them. "Know what?"
"Did you know that Natalia was going to kill Henry Allen?" Quinn asked forcefully. "That she was going to try to kill Barry, Vera and me? Did you know?"
"No, I didn't," Hunter answered. "But I warned you not to make her angry."
"All she has done is make me angry," Quinn told him.
"The only difference is that she can actually kill you before you could ever kill her," Hunter told her.
"This ends now," Quinn told him.
"Not yet," Hunter told her. "There's always more to take, Quinn, and Natalia wants to take it all."
"She already has!" Quinn told him. "I can't even be around them."
"Because your guilt and self-loathing is propelling you away from them," Hunter told her. "That's what she was counting on, not just that she turned them against you."
"It doesn't take a genius to figure that out," Quinn told him.
"Well, you're gonna need a lot of geniuses to take her down for good," Hunter told her. "And most of the ones that we know our your old friends."
Quinn shook her head. "No. No, I'm not putting them in danger. I'm not going to go to them after my stepsister killed Barry's father because of me."
"When will you learn?" Hunter asked. "None of this has been on you. It's been on Natalia. And it's been on me. I'm sorry."
Quinn looked at him in surprise, covering it up with expressionless anger directed at Natalia, walking closer. "If you really mean that, then help me stop her." She gestured to the burns over her skin. "She did this to me. She did this to them. You let me go before. You helped me then. You can help me now. Help me stop this."
Hunter hesitated, sighing. "If we fail, she'll kill us both."
Quinn looked cold. "It's worth the risk."
~
Vera
It was the next day in the Cortex.
Cisco, Caitlin and I were standing at the desk.
Harrison and Jessie stood nearby.
"Any sign of Quinn?" I asked.
"Not yet," Cisco answered. "Why do you want to find her?"
"Because the way she went after Natalia that night and almost got herself killed, I think she's gonna do that again," I answered. "And you all might not care after what happened, but I do."
Barry, Joe and Iris walked in.
"What do we got on Phoenix?" Barry asked.
"This magnetar that's being developed by Mercury Labs, turns out it can act as a pulsar," Caitlin told us.
"Whoa," Cisco told us.
"What is a pulsar?" Iris asked.
"It's a power amplifier with a highly magnetized, dense rotating core that can be easily weaponized," Harrison answered.
"Nah, that's not dangerous at all," Iris told us sarcastically.
"That's what happens to Earth 2," Cisco told us. "What happens in my vibes is because of this machine."
"That thing is powerful enough to destroy a planet?" Iris asked.
"Well, more than just a planet if it has the right power source," Harrison answered.
"Like what?" Jessie asked.
"Like Natalia," Barry answered. "Powerful blaze that burned Vera, Quinn and me at the same time with ease while she killed my dad, and still had enough strength to nearly kill Quinn afterward, and would have if it wasn't for Vera."
"That's why Natalia siphons the power of blazes, including me and Quinn, to get powerful enough to use this machine to destroy a whole world," I told them. "Natalia said that she used to measure her success by counting the number of victims she had. But now, she was gonna measure it by counting the number of Earths she conquered instead."
"She doesn't want just to destroy Earth 2," Harrison told us. "She wants to take out every other planet in the multiverse."
"How many are there?" Caitlin asked.
"Infinite," Harrison answered.
"Well, can she do that?" Jessie asked.
"If she can create a breach to Earth 2 all on her own..." Joe trailed off.
"She can get to all of them," Barry told us.
"One pulse to destroy all of them," Cisco told us.
"She can only do this with help, right?" Jessie asked. "I mean, is Zoom still helping her or not?"
"Zoom wasn't there that night," I told them. "I think she's running her own show now."
"But if he is still helping her, I will take both of them down," Barry told us.
"I'm going to find Quinn," I told them. "Natalia's not gonna wait any longer. She's gonna go after her, and she's gonna steal her power until she dies just so that she can have enough power to destroy the multiverse. You guys can blame or hate her all you want, and I wouldn't blame you if you did, but this is not on Quinn. This is on Natalia. And I'm gonna find a way to save Quinn and stop Natalia."
I walked out, leaving.
~
Suited up as Pyra, I found Quinn in an industrial park on Leewood.
Quinn was suited up as Earth 2 Pyra.
Hunter was nearby, suited up.
"Quinn?" I asked.
Quinn turned to me. "What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you," I answered. "What is he doing here?"
Quinn looked at Hunter for a moment, sighing, looking at me. "Helping me."
"And you're sure that you can trust him?" I asked. "That I can trust him? His partner just killed Barry's dad."
"After she left me to burn on Earth 2 in a burst of anger after she found out that I let Quinn go," Hunter told me.
I pointed at the burn on his face. "So, that's from Phoenix?"
"No," Quinn answered. "That's from me." I looked at her in surprise. "You didn't think that I would let him just waltz back in, did you?"
"There's something you need to know about Natalia," I told her. "I know what her plan is."
"Destroying the multiverse with the magnetar from Mercury Labs," Hunter told me. "I told her."
"Of course you would know," I told him. I looked at Quinn. "You sure he's not part of it?"
"If he is, he knows that Natalia is not the only one going to die tonight," Quinn told me, giving Hunter a look. Hunter smirked slightly. Quinn looked at me. "Go home, Vera."
"You are not going to fight Phoenix alone," I told her.
"Yes, I am," Quinn told me. "This started with her and me. If I give her what she wants, then maybe it can end with me. I'm not going to let anyone else die because of me. Hunter said that he would help me take Nat down."
"And if he's lying, if he double crosses you, you'll be left alone to fight against the two of them, and you will lose," I told her. "You will die to give Natalia what she wants. Is that what you want?"
"It's what I'm willing to do," Quinn told me. "This ends tonight, and it ends with me. I'm not letting any of you get hurt because of this stupid game anymore. Follow us, and I'll be the one to burn you."
Quinn turned around, walking toward Hunter.
I started to follow. "Quinn--"
Quinn turned toward me to shoot me down with fire. "Go home, Vera. Be safe for once."
I groaned in pain, looking up to see that Hunter had already zoomed them away.
~
I came back to STAR Labs, walking into the Cortex, seeing the team there except for Barry and Joe, frowning in confusion. "Guys? What's wrong?"
"Phoenix took my dad," Iris answered.
"What?" I asked worriedly. "How?"
"We tried to stop Phoenix by pushing her through a breach, but she took Joe with her," Caitlin answered.
"You went after Natalia alone?" I asked. "Why?"
"Because you, Quinn and Barry are blinded by anger after what she did to the three of you and Henry that you could've gotten yourselves killed," Cisco answered.
"Yeah, and you got Joe kidnapped and sent to Earth 2," I told them. "Where's Barry? Why wasn't he there?"
"He's in a cell in the--" Jessie started.
Harrison cleared his throat to cut her off.
"You're kidding me," I told them. "You locked him in the pipeline?"
"It's for his own good, Vera," Harrison told me.
"Not for Joe's," I told them. "Or Quinn's. They're gonna die, and I can't go up against Phoenix alone. Zoom is with Quinn, saying that he'll help her stop Natalia, but I don't trust him, and I don't know whether or not to believe him, so Quinn could be walking into a trap right now."
"Why didn't she ask us for help?" Caitlin asked.
"Because she doesn't want us to get hurt," I answered in exasperation. "She hates herself because Natalia killed Henry to get back at her and turn us all against her, and she thinks it's better that way so that we don't killed in the sick game. We have to get Joe back, and we have to save Quinn."
"Vera, before Phoenix took my dad, we all agreed that if we got her off this Earth, we would close the breaches for good and we would never open them again, under any circumstances," Iris told me.
I was beyond exasperated and overwhelmed, angry, but not at them. "Why would you do that? No. No way, that's not gonna happen."
"He made us all agree to it," Cisco told me.
"Well, guess what?" I asked. "I didn't agree to that. Neither did Barry."
"Mitchell," Harrison told me.
"We already lost Ronnie, Eddie, Henry, Nora, my family," I told them. "If Joe... I..."
I didn't finish, walking toward the door.
"Don't do anything stupid," Harrison told me.
"You guys already did that for me," I told them. "The only way you're gonna stop me is if you lock me up, too. You ready to do that?" They didn't answer. "Good."
I walked out, leaving.
~
I went down to the pipeline, raising the wall between me and the cells.
Barry was in the one right in front of me.
I opened his cell.
Barry walked out toward me.
"I swear, I had no part in putting you in there," I told him.
Barry nodded. "I know."
"Everyone's gonna freak when they found out I did this, but I don't care," I told him. "I need your help, Barry."
~
Barry zoomed us into the Cortex with the others.
"Vera!" Iris told me.
"Well, I wasn't just gonna stand here and let this happen," I told them.
"You let her take Joe?" Barry asked. "What the hell were you thinking?"
"Allen, Mitchell, there was nothing we could do," Harrison told us.
"You could have let us go after them," Barry told them. "Instead of going behind our backs to go after Phoenix alone."
"You're not going after them," Harrison told us.
"What are you gonna do?" I asked. "You gonna tranq us and lock us up?"
"Don't tempt me," Harrison told us.
"Look, I know you guys made a pact to keep Phoenix on Earth 2, but you did that without me and Barry," I told them. "All right? You don't get to do that. We make decisions as a team. I know you're worried about Barry. So am I. But I'm also worried about Quinn, and Joe, and they could be on their way to their deaths right now."
"Neither of you are okay," Cisco told us.
"Cisco, my dad was killed in front of me," Barry told him. "Do you have any idea what that feels like?"
"Watching someone you love die?" Caitlin asked. "Yes, I do."
Barry sighed. "Cait..."
Barry turned away.
"Look, guys, I know how cold and angry and distant that can make you," Caitlin told us. "But when this happened to me, you were the ones that kept me in check. You told me to stop and take a breath. And that's all we're telling you to do now."
"I'm telling you, I'm good," Barry told us.
"Really?" Harrison asked. "You're good? Because it seems to me you want to do more than just stop Phoenix. It seems to me you want revenge. Phoenix has been playing a game of revenge for three years. She will beat you."
"Look, you guys," I told them. "You might not think that we can do this. But we can, with Quinn and Hunter's help. You may think that we're all too angry, that we're all too thirsty for revenge, but we're running out of time. We have to beat her, and we're going to, whether we have your help or not. And if Hunter is lying and is leading Quinn into a trap, then we'll take him down, too. So, which one is it?"
~
Quinn and Hunter had bargained for Natalia to bring Joe back to Earth 1 in exchange for Quinn giving Natalia what she wanted.
We found them in an warehouse district.
"I tell you, Natalia may be crazy pants, but she sure can pick a venue," Cisco told us.
We found the magnetar.
It was a huge disk that stood several yards high.
We stayed in hiding to the side in case we upset Natalia and got Joe, Quinn and Hunter killed.
"So you are the heroine of our story after all, Quinn," Natalia told her. "Sacrificing yourself to save poor old Joe. Can't say that I blame you. Not after I killed Henry because of you. You want to redeem yourself in the eyes of your so-called friends. It's going to be a hell of a show."
"Let him go," Quinn told her.
"After you give me your power," Natalia told her.
"Cut the crap," Quinn told her. "I know you want to steal my power and add it to yours so you can power up the magnetar so you can destroy the multiverse."
Natalia looked at Hunter. "And I wonder how she got that intel." Hunter smirked slightly. "And you said that it was impossible that you had any feelings at all for my stepsister when I left you to burn in the lair. You said that you felt that way about me, not her."
"What can I say?" Hunter asked. "No one can love that much crazy."
Natalia gripped Joe tightly.
Quinn gave him a warning look. "Hunter..."
"I don't want to destroy all of it," Natalia told them. "This Earth is at the center of the multiverse. It's the access point to every other Earth in existence. One trans-dimensional shock wave and... Poof."
"Leaving just this Earth," Hunter told her. "How generous of you."
"I need to have someplace to have my fun," Natalia told us. "You might wanna say your goodbyes. Because I'm gonna kill every last one of you."
We knew that Natalia knew we were there.
Quinn and Hunter followed her gaze.
We stepped out of hiding.
Quinn gave me a look. "I told you to go home."
"And I told you that I wasn't gonna let you go after this psycho alone, taking the chance that you were being led into a trap by that psycho," I told her, nodding to Hunter. "No offense."
Hunter shook his head.
Iris walked toward Joe. "Dad..."
Cisco held her back.
"We're gonna save your dad," Barry told her.
"No, you're gonna save our dad," Iris told him.
"Get back to STAR Labs," Barry told them. "It's safer."
"We're not going anywhere," Cisco told us. "You got eyes and ears right here."
"Either she goes, or we all die together," Caitlin told us.
"We believe in you," Harrison told us.
"That's a sweet sentiment," Natalia told us sarcastically. "So sweet that I just threw up fire in my mouth a little bit."
"I wouldn't expect a girl who killed her parents and made her stepsister's life a living hell for the past six years to understand," Barry told her.
"Kick her ass," Iris told us.
"After I kill you, I'll kill your little club," Natalia told us.
"They're not our club," I told her. "They're the reason that we're fighting. Why we're gonna beat you."
Natalia scoffed. "Let's see what you're made of. Trust me. This? This is gonna be fun."
Hunter and Barry pulled on their head masks.
Quinn and I pulled on our face masks.
"Just say when, Natalia," Quinn told her.
"Come on, then," Natalia told us. She raised her voice crazily. "Come on!"
Quinn, Natalie and I all let our hands catch on fire.
Barry and Hunter both crackled with lightning.
Natalia breathed out a huge amount of fire toward us, trying to burn us.
Quinn and I used fire as a shield to protect us all.
Natalia used her fire to absorbed ours, throwing the fire into the magnetar
"She's powering up the magnetar," Harrison told us.
"Come on, guys," Cisco told us.
Hunter and Barry zoomed in circles around Natalia.
"Move, Barry," I told him.
Natalia looked around at the blue and yellow lightning surrounding her, letting her eyes glow with fire.
"Hunter, move!" Quinn told him.
Natalia shot fire from her eyes into Barry and Hunter, making them fall. She used fire to push Quinn into a fence, absorbing fire from Quinn to throw into the magnetar, powering it up.
I used fire to throw Natalia into the glass on the nearby sign, making the glass shatter. As Natalia started to fall to the ground, she started to use fire to fly.
Hunter threw lightning into Natalia, making her fall to the ground.
Quinn shot Natalia in the back with fire.
I flew toward Natalia from in front of her, throwing fire against the pavement, making her stumble back. "Come on."
Natalia blew a huge amount of fire into me, absorbing some of my power to shoot into the magnetar.
"Come on, guys," Iris told us.
Natalia used fire to throw me across the warehouse district.
I almost landed on the ground, turning myself into fire at the last second so that when I hit the ground, I wouldn't get hurt.
Quinn threw fire toward Natalia. Natalia ducked, shooting fire toward Quinn. Quinn caught the fire in her hands, absorbing it to gain power, throwing more into Natalia, making her back away.
I returned to human form on the ground, pushing myself up.
Barry zoomed toward Natalia. Natalia threw fire into Barry, making him fall. Barry zoomed up to a standing position, trying to kick Natalia. Natalia turned into fire to make him burn his leg, making him yell in pain, returning to human form, throwing him down.
Hunter punched Natalia in the face repeatedly. Natalia grabbed him by his arm, burning him, making him groan in pain, spinning around to backhand punch him in the face with a fist of fire, making him spit out blood. Hunter tried to phase his hand into her chest to shred her heart, but she turned herself into fire so that he couldn't, grabbing his arm to keep his hand in her fire, making him scream in pain, throwing him to the ground, letting herself return to human form.
I punched Natalia in the face with a fist of fire, letting my leg catch on fire, spinning around to kick her in the stomach with fire, making her fall to the ground. Natalia got to a standing position, punching me in the face with fire.
Barry hit Natalia from behind with a crowbar, hitting her in the head, spinning it in his grasp, pushing it against her to push her into the wall behind her. Natalia shot fire from her eyes into his briefly to make him let go, making him scream in pain, pushing him down, taking the crowbar from him.
Natalia lit the crowbar on fire, trying to hit Quinn with it. Quinn caught the flaming crowbar to absorb the fire, becoming stronger, punching Natalia in the face, using the crowbar to flip her to the ground. Natalia turned the bar to hit Quinn in the face, making her let go, pushing her off, flying up into a standing position.
I tried to punch Natalia. Natalia ducked, hitting me with the flaming crowbar. Hunter speed punched Natalia from all sides, making her lower to her knees. Hunter and I flipped Natalia over onto a pile of boxes next to us.
Natalia used fire to fly, grabbing me from the ground, pulling me into the sky with her, spinning around to throw me into the building, gripping my throat, burning me to absorb my power and fire, making me yell in pain, shooting it into the magnetar.
Quinn used fire to fly up to the sky behind Natalia, using fire to wrap around her from behind, pulling her away from me out to the open, using the fire she was burning her with to absorb power.
Barry ran up the wall toward me. I grabbed him, spinning around to throw him toward Natalia so that he could punch her in the face with speed and strength. I caught him as he fell, lowering him down.
Natalia, Quinn and I were all still using fire to fly in the sky a little way up above the others.
Quinn and I both threw fire toward Natalia, hitting her, making her hit the building and fall to the ground.
Natalia started to stand. "That's the spirit."
Natalia was starting to get really angry.
"You ain't seen nothing yet," Hunter told her.
Barry and Hunter zoomed toward Natalia. Natalia turned into fire to make them pass through her and burn themselves, turning to human. Quinn and I threw fire into her just as she returned to human form, making her fall to the ground.
Cisco shot a tranq dart into Natalia's shoulder to slow her down.
Natalia was even more enraged, shooting fire to wrap around Quinn and me, absorbing all she could as fast as she could, shooting our power combined with hers into the magnetar. "You're too late. Bye-bye, multiverse."
The portal opened to begin the end of the multiverse.
Barry zoomed toward Natalia, punching her in the face to make her stop burning us.
Quinn and I started to fall, barely able to stop ourselves by flying.
Natalia punched Barry in the face with fire.
Another Hunter started to zoom in circles around the magnetar.
"Time Remnant," Iris told us.
"What's he doing?" Caitlin asked.
"He's creating his own pulse," Cisco answered.
"Why would he do that?" Jessie asked.
"Because if that's out of phase, it'll counteract that one," Harrison answered.
"Wait, his body can't handle that," Caitlin told us.
"Then what's gonna happen?" Jessie asked.
"He'll die," Harrison answered.
Time Remnant Hunter ran until he burned out of existence completely, closing the portal.
Quinn was in shock that he had sacrificed his life for us.
Natalia was enraged. "No!"
Natalia started to burn Hunter and Barry in rage.
Quinn and I threw fire into Natalia, slamming her into the wall behind her.
Barry and Hunter punched Natalia at zooming speed, throwing her toward us.
Quinn and I flew closer, both of us on fire, using the fire to flip Natalia through the air and slam her on the ground, standing, backing away, letting the fire fade.
Quinn pulled Natalia's mask off so we could see her face.
Barry and Hunter restrained Natalia to the ground.
Barry phased his hand.
"You're a hero, all of you," Natalia told us. She looked at Hunter. "Except for you. None of you could kill me before. You won't kill me now." Barry lowered his hand. Natalia used what little strength she had left to burn Hunter alive. "Your price... for betraying me."
Quinn couldn't help but be horrified by this after what he did for us. "No!"
Barry and I were in shock, along with the others.
Natalia let Hunter's burning body fall to the ground.
Quinn knelt next to Hunter, drawing the flames into her to stop his agony, though we knew that there was no coming back from this for him.
Natalia laughed. "You didn't think I was gonna go without taking someone with me, did you? Go on, Quinn. Do it. Kill me."
We heard Time Wraiths screeching, looking toward where they came out of a wormhole of time.
Barry, Quinn and I looked at Natalia.
"We don't have to," Barry told her.
We got out of the way.
The Time Wraiths phased in out of Natalia's body, making her scream in agony as they ripped her from inside out. She tried to use fire to fight back, but they were immune. Her body started to burn of its own accord. The Time Wraiths took her body away, leaving.
Quinn ran toward Hunter, taking off her mask and his. "Jay... Hunter. Hey."
"He's dying," Cisco told us.
"There's no saving him," Harrison told us.
Hunter chuckled weakly. "I guess I'm getting what I deserve. I'm no hero, Quinn."
"You were tonight," Quinn told him.
"I really do love you, you know," Hunter told her. "I never lied about that."
Quinn nodded. "I know. I believe you. Thank you."
Hunter died in front of us from his wounds from Natalia.
Quinn wasn't as devastated by his death as she was when we had thought he was Jay, because of finding out that he was Zoom and everything that he had done, but she couldn't help but feel sad and guilty for convincing him to turn against Natalia and getting himself killed, especially after what he did for us that night.
~
The team was talking in the Cortex.
Wally was here, looking at Quinn. "So, you got Zoom to turn against Phoenix, run back in time and make a copy of himself to do what he did?"
"Well, uh, basically, yeah," Quinn answered.
"It's called a Time Remnant," Jessie explained.
"It's not something you can do everyday, but we needed a way to draw out the Time Wraiths out of the force, hoping they'd be more upset at what Natalia had done than they would be at us," Quinn told us.
Wally was dumbfounded.
"Is that what I look like when they start talking about science?" Joe asked.
"Pretty much," Iris answered.
"Don't worry, Wally, it'll get easier to understand," Joe told him.
"Well, how does that even work?" Wally asked.
"Hunter ran back in time moments before the fight," Quinn answered. "It's the only way anyone could be in two places at once."
"Okay, so the Time Remnant, that was still Zoom," Wally told us.
"Yeah," Barry answered.
"But both of them died," Caitlin told us.
Quinn looked down. "He thought that his time for justice had come. He knew that if Natalia had to die, so did he. I just can't believe he sacrificed himself for us."
"He sacrificed himself for you," I told her. "All that time as Jay, all that time with you, you changed him. For the better."
"You know what?" Wally asked. "We'll just... we'll forget about it. Um, I'm glad you guys are okay."
Quinn looked down. "Yeah. Look, what happened still happened. Henry died because of me. If none of you want to see me again, it's fine."
"My dad is dead because of Natalia," Barry told her. "Not because of you. She wanted to turn us against you. That didn't work. It's not gonna happen. You saved us, Quinn. You saved Joe. You were willing to sacrifice yourself for us, too. We're not going to turn our backs on you."
Quinn and I smiled small smiles.
Caitlin hugged Quinn. "Come here."
Harrison and Cisco were trying to get the iron mask off the masked man from Earth 2.
"You know what?" Harrison asked. "In battle, choose your weapon wisely. All right, some people choose a gun. I choose a Phillips head. Screwdriver."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Cisco told him sarcastically. "You are so particular."
"Ramon, could you just please?" Harrison asked. "Have you ever worked with a tool before?"
"I'm working with one now," Cisco told him, handing him a screwdriver.
"Are you ready?" Harrison asked. "One, two, and..."
Harrison and Cisco took the mask off.
The man groaned. "I don't know what's more annoying. Being in that thing, or listening to you two argue about it."
Harrison and Cisco were shocked by his look.
The man turned to face us, revealing it was Henry's doppelganger with a full grown beard.
We were all in shock.
"Um..." Barry trailed off. "You're..."
"I'm Jay Garrick," the man told us. "The real Jay Garrick." We were all in shock. I looked at Barry. "What?"
"I'm sorry," Barry told us. "I... I'm sorry."
Barry walked out.
Joe went to talk to him.
~
That night, Jay was cleaned up and shaved, in his suit.
Cisco and Harrison walked in with the iron mask.
"That's why he didn't..." Harrison trailed off.
"Yeah," Cisco answered.
"That's so smart," Harrison told him.
"Yeah," Cisco agreed. He looked at Jay. "So the reason you didn't have your powers is because there was a dampener in the mask. See?"
"I don't want to see this thing ever again," Jay told us, using his hand to phase through the mask to destroy it.
"So, your powers are back," Cisco told him.
"I see Jay--excuse me, Hunter--stole your color theme, too," Joe told him.
"It was that Natalia that took me," Jay told us. "She took a lot of things that were mine and convinced Hunter to go along with it." He pointed at the helmet. "Except that. That's all... that's all him."
"He said it was his father's, from the war," Quinn told us. "Ironically, on our Earth, this helmet stood for hope."
"Yeah?" Jay asked.
"Yeah," Quinn answered.
"Maybe I can continue that sentiment," Jay told us. "I mean, after all, even if this Hunter was a killer, he did sacrifice himself to save all of you."
Jay put the helmet on.
"It suits you," Caitlin told him.
"Thank you, all of you, for saving me from Phoenix," Jay told us. He looked at Barry. "Especially you, Flash." He looked at Quinn and me. "Pyras."
"You're welcome, Flash," Barry told him.
Jay nodded to us. "Now, all I have to do is find my way home."
"And where's that?" Wally asked.
"I think you would call it Earth 3," Jay answered.
"Uh-huh," Cisco told him. "Well, I can get you to Earth 2."
"My daughter and I can help you with the rest," Harrison told him.
"We can?" Jessie asked.
"Yes, we can," Harrison answered. "We're going home."
They smiled.
"What about you, Quinn?" I asked. Quinn looked at us. "Are you going, or staying?"
Everyone looked at her.
Quinn sighed. "I gotta clean Natalia's mess up on Earth 2. I gotta go home to fix the damaged she's caused. But I'll definitely come back once in a while. If I'm still welcome."
"You'll always be welcome," I told her.
Quinn and I hugged.
~
We were in the breach room to see them off.
"Okay," Barry told us.
"Caitlin, you're a tremendous scientist, but you're an even better person," Quinn told her.
"Don't make me cry, Quinn," Caitlin told her. They hugged. "I've done enough of that already."
They pulled away.
"You're a hell of a detective, Joe West," Quinn told him.
"And you're a hell of a hero, Quinn, with or without your powers," Joe told her.
Harrison shook his hand. "You have great kids. You take care of them."
"Same to you," Joe told him. "You take care of that beautiful girl."
"Yes, sir," Harrison told him. Barry and I shook Harrison's hands goodbye, then hugged him in turn. "I'm a better man than I was when I got here, and it's 'cause of the two of you."
"We're not the same, either," I told him.
"Hey, uh, don't be surprised if I project myself over to Earth 2 every once in a while, just to, you know, throw your stuff across your office," Cisco told him.
They chuckled.
"I'll miss you, too, Cisco," Harrison told him.
Quinn and Cisco hugged goodbye.
"Keep on kicking ass, Pyra," Cisco told her.
They pulled away.
"Yeah, I was thinking about picking a new name, for while I'm on this Earth, anyway," Quinn told him. "Vera is this Earth's Pyra. I'm not gonna take that from her. You got any ideas?"
"Hell, yeah," Cisco answered. "How about... Magma?"
Quinn smiled a small smile, nodding. "I love it."
Jessie looked at Wally. "So, I guess I can't text you from another Earth, huh?"
Wally smiled. "Yeah, I guess not."
"It's too bad," Jessie told him. They hugged. "Thank you guys, seriously, for saving our home."
Quinn hugged Barry goodbye. "Thank you." She pulled away. "And I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," Barry told her. "It's not your fault. It's not on you."
"It still feel like it is," Quinn told us.
"I think being overly hard on ourselves is a Pyra on all Earths thing," I told her. "Maybe it's time to break that tradition."
Quinn nodded. "Maybe."
"Okay," Jay told us. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah," Harrison answered.
Cisco put on Reverb's glasses, opening the breach in front of us.
Quinn grabbed Jessie lightly, using fire to fly them through the breach.
Jay grabbed Harrison, zooming them through the breach.
Cisco closed the breach to Earth 2.
~
Everyone was at my loft.
Barry was reclusive by the doorway, eventually walking outside.
Iris looked at me, nodding.
I nodded, sighing, standing, walking outside.
Barry was sitting on the steps in the hallway of the loft building.
I sat next to him.
Barry shook his head. "Can't stop thinking about my dad's doppelganger, seeing him, knowing he's out there, that should've made it easier. Doesn't. Just made me miss him even more."
"I know," I told him. "Even after all this time, I still think about my doppelganger on Earth 2. When we went there, and I got to see my entire family. And then the fire force showing all of them to me... I still miss them, too, Barry."
"We just won," Barry told me. "We just beat Phoenix, we don't have to deal with Zoom. Why does it feel like I lost?"
"Because you've lost a lot in your life, Barry," I answered. "More than most."
"Not more than you," Barry told me. "Not more than Quinn. How do you do it?"
"I couldn't do it, for the longest time," I told him. "I couldn't bare the pain, the guilt. Sometimes I still can't, because I was closed off for most of my life. Until the particle accelerator explosion. Until you. You gave me happiness for a change." Barry smiled a small smile. I shook my head. "And happiness wasn't something I came around easily before."
"I feel so hollowed out inside right now," Barry told me. "I feel more broken that I've ever felt in my entire life. If I'm ever gonna be worth anything to you the way that I used to, I need to fix what's wrong with me. I need to find some... some peace."
I nodded understandingly. "Barry, listen to me. You waited for me. You let me get to a place where this is possible. So, I am telling you, I am gonna do the same thing for you. Wherever you need to go, whatever you need to do, do it. And when you get back, I'll be here."
Barry nodded, crying. "Okay."
"I love you, Barry," I told him.
Barry slowly leaned closer to kiss me slowly and softly, pulling away. "I love you, too, Vera. And I always will."
I nodded sadly, kissing him on the head, standing, walking toward the loft door, look at him sadly for a moment, walking inside.

So, next book is Flash Point :). Different timelines.
How would you guys feel if not only Barry saved his mother, but he also saved Vera's family so that they could still be alive and Vera would never have to go through all that pain? She would be very a Vera, even if only for a chapter :)
Plus, how did you guys like Quinn without her powers, as Pyra, and her new name Inferno for Earth 1? And did you like her rivalry with Natalia? Would you like to see her come to stay over on Earth 1?
Even if you hated Natalia, did you think she was a good villain? Did you like that she was completely crazy and her revenge fantasy against Quinn? How did you like Jay/Hunter's role in the game and that he actually felt enough love for Quinn that he helped her stop Natalia?
Let me know what you think in the comments.
