Chapter 14__Welcome to Earth-2
We were closing the breaches.
All of them.
Except for the one in the basement at STAR Labs.
Soon, every portal between Earth-1 and Earth-2 would no longer exist.
Because Barry and I were splitting up and zooming or flying all over town to through the devices into the breaches to watch them implode and disappear from existence.
"29," Cisco told us.
"28," Caitlin told us.
"27," Cisco told us.
"26," Caitlin told us.
We kept coming until there was none left.
"Bam," Cisco told us. "Uh, that's how it's done." Barry and I got back to STAR Labs, in the Cortex. Barry pulled back his hood. I took off my mask. "They shoot. They score."
"Not bad for a guy who got a C in gym," Barry told us.
"B," I told them.
"D plus," Caitlin told us.
"Straight up F right here," Cisco told us.
We chuckled.
"Can't believe it," Caitlin told us. "We closed all the breaches."
"All except the one," I told them. "Our last way to Earth-2."
Harrison walked in. "Ready?"
"Yeah," Barry answered. "Just have a few things to take care of first."
"Just a reminder," Harrison told us. "Clock's ticking."
I sighed, nodding. "It always is."
~
Barry, Iris, Joe and I were having dinner over at the West house.
"Thanks for inviting me over to dinner," I told them.
"Well, you both are going over to another Earth," Joe told us.
Barry looked at me. "And this is the first you've ever been to a family dinner. You know how it is."
I tilted my head. "It's usually the girl's family inviting the boy over, but..."
Iris nodded understandingly, sympathetically.
Joe looked at Barry. "Hey. Did you tell Henry?"
Barry hesitated, shaking his head. "No. I--look, if he knew, he would just try to talk me out of it, and he probably would, so..."
Iris sighed. "Dad, we should probably get the dishes done."
"Right," Joe agreed.
Joe and Iris cleared the table, walking out, leaving.
Barry looked at me. "Look, Vera, I know that this is... nuts is the only word I can think of right now, but it's not like we've never done anything dangerous before."
I nodded. "I know. It's just... everything's gonna be different over there. I mean, we may see things, and we may feel things that are familiar, but it's not our world. We have no idea what's gonna happen, what's gonna be the same, what's gonna be different."
"I know," Barry told me.
"I know that this is my idea, Barry, but..." I trailed off, sighing. "Truth is, it's kinda..."
"Freaking you out?" Barry finished.
"A little bit, yeah," I answered.
"Me, too," Barry told me. "But don't worry. We'll be there together. All right?"
I nodded.
Barry took my hand, kissing me for a long moment.
~
The next morning, the team, Jay and Quinn was in the basement of STAR Labs, in front of the speed canon.
"All right, listen to me," Quinn told us. "You're about to go through the looking glass. You're gonna see things that look and feel familiar, but they're not. Up is down. Black is white. And do not let yourselves get sucked in emotionally. Good luck."
Barry sighed. "Look, if we're not back in 48 hours, that means that Zoom and Phoenix has us. If that happens, you have to close the breach."
"We're not gonna do that," Caitlin told us.
"You get yourselves back here, all right?" Joe asked. "Don't make me come and get you."
Barry smiled. "No."
Joe and Barry hugged, pulling away.
Cisco looked at Caitlin, holding a letter toward her. "I wrote this for my parents and Dante. If I don't come back, make sure it gets to them."
"Cisco, you're coming back," Caitlin told him.
"Caitlin, please," Cisco told her.
Caitlin took the letter from him. "Okay. I will."
"Thank you," Cisco told her.
Caitlin and I hugged, pulling away.
Cisco and Caitlin hugged, pulling away.
Barry and Caitlin hugged, pulling away.
"Be careful," Caitlin told us.
"Yeah," I told her. "Okay."
Caitlin looked at Harrison. "You, too, Harry."
Harrison nodded. "Snow."
Joe and Harrison shook hands.
"I hope you get your daughter back," Joe told him.
"I'll make sure you get your son back," Harrison told him. Harrison stood next to me in front of the speed canon, sighing. "You don't have to do this."
I nodded. "Yeah, we do."
Barry and Cisco stepped up on the other side of me.
Harrison, Barry, Cisco and I stepped up to the speed canon.
"Is anybody else feeling panic right now?" Cisco asked. "I chickened out of bungee jumping when I was 18, but this is categorically a lot scarier."
"Once I turn the speed cannon on, the four of you will be able to pass through unharmed," Jay told us. "But, Vera, Barry, you need to make sure you keep your speeds up and even with each other, whether it's flying or running."
Barry nodded. "Mm-hmm."
"I--I got no spit," Cisco told us.
"'Jaws'," Harrison told us.
"I'm not just quoting 'Jaws'," Cisco told us. "I mean, my mouth is really dry right now."
"Do not get distracted by anything you see along the way," Jay told us.
"What are we gonna see?" I asked.
"Everything," Jay answered.
"Do it, Jay," Barry told him.
Jay turned on the speed cannon.
The breach opened.
Barry grabbed Cisco, zooming in through the breach.
I grabbed the back of Harrison's jacket with both hands, using fire to fly through the breach.
We saw many glimpses.
We saw Oliver as the Green Arrow.
Barry as the Flash.
Me as Pyra.
A girl with blonde hair and in a blue and red suit flying in the sky.
Gorilla Grodd.
Leonard Snart.
So many other things that blended together uncontrollably.
We finally reached the basement of STAR Labs of Earth-2.
I let the fire fade once we landed.
We looked around at all of the advanced tech.
"Holy 2001," Cisco told us. "I feel like I just opened my third eye."
I looked around in disbelief, in awe. "Oh, my God."
Barry chuckled. "Come on."
We walked up into the main room of STAR Labs.
It was huge, lavishly built, filled with roaming people.
Outside through the glass doors and windows, we could see a road bridge high up in the air above the ground.
We laughed in surprise, smiling.
Harrison walked toward us, smiling slightly, relieved to be home and so close to getting his daughter back. "Welcome to Earth-2."
We continued to look around.
~
We walked through this Earth's STAR Labs.
Cisco chuckled. "Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
"This is amazing," I told them. "Half these things are just ideas on our Earth."
"Come here," Cisco told us, pulling Barry and me over to the wall where the STAR Labs logo was, taking a picture of us.
Harrison sighed. "Ramon."
"What?" Cisco asked.
"Not a sightseeing tour," Harrison told him.
"Speak for yourself," Cisco told him. "We want our grandkids to know we did cool stuff." He looked at Barry and me. "And you two would probably have them way before I will. Probably with each other."
I sighed, walking away before they could see a blush.
Barry sighed. "Cisco..."
"What?" Cisco asked innocently.
Earth-2 Henry Hewitt walked toward us. "Dr. Wells."
"Henry," Harrison told him.
"Welcome back," Hewitt told him. They shook hands. Cisco and Barry gasped. All of us looked at Hewitt warily. "We weren't expecting you."
They looked at us.
"Yes..." Harrison trailed off, looking at Hewitt. "I didn't tell anyone I was coming back."
"I thought you might've left town with all that's been happening," Hewitt told him.
Harrison nodded. "Right."
"Are your friends okay?" Hewitt asked.
"Yes, they're--they're fine," Harrison answered. "They're... excitable." Hewitt nodded. Harrison looked at us, holding a hand toward him. "This is, um..."
Hewitt held a hand toward us. "Henry Hewitt, lab assistant." Barry shook his hand. Hewitt offered me his hand. "Pleased to make your acquaintance."
I awkwardly shook his hand. "And you. Um, I'm Vera. This is Cisco and Barry."
"And you are just a nice, normal guy," Cisco told him.
"Okay, um..." Harrison trailed off.
"Dr. Wells, will you and your visitors be needing the conference room?" Hewitt asked.
"Not necessary, Henry," Harrison told him. "Our visit will be short."
Hewitt nodded. "Okay."
"Good to see you," Harrison told him.
"Good to see you, sir," Hewitt told him, walking away, leaving.
Harrison turned to give Cisco, Barry and me a what the hell? look.
"He's a bad guy on Earth-1," Cisco told him.
"He looks just like him," Barry told him.
Harrison couldn't think of anything to say, sighing, shaking his head, turning around, walking away.
We followed him into his office.
A TV in the wall turned on, playing the news.
"A remainder that a citywide curfew has been issued. No unauthorized person is to be out after 9:00 PM. A recent increase in Zoom and Phoenix attacks has led Mayor Snart to extend the curfew."
I looked at Barry in surprise. "Mayor Snart?"
Barry shook his head in confusion.
"The curfew was first issued after a series of terror attacks throughout the city..."
"It's worse," Harrison told us. "It's worse than when I left. Zoom and Phoenix have turned up their reign of terror."
"All right, then let's find them fast," I told them. "Cisco, do your thing."
Cisco pulled out his vibe glasses. "All right, Zoenix..." He put the glasses on. "You can run, and you can fly, but you can't hide."
"Zoenix?" Barry repeated.
"Flash and Pyra get a nickname on both of our Earths," Cisco told us. "Flyra. Why can't they get one? It's easier and faster to say."
"Cisco, what's happening?" Harrison asked in annoyance.
Cisco pulled off the glasses. "All right, you know what? You guys are crowding my space a little bit. I can't perform like this under pressure, okay? If you could just step back just a little bit... I need to do my thing."
Harrison, Barry and I took a few steps back. "All right."
"My mojo," Cisco told us.
"Yes, all right," Barry told him.
"Thank you," Cisco told us. "Take two..." He cleared his throat. "Mm, ah. All right, Zoenix." He put the glasses on. "You can run, and you can fly, but you can't hide."
"Ramon, what's happening?" Harrison asked impatiently.
Cisco took the glasses off. "You know, I don't know, okay? I can't see anything. I don't know what's wrong. Maybe I lost my powers."
"We didn't lose our powers," I told him. "Why would you lose your powers?"
Cisco looked at the glasses. "Oh, here we go. The wavelength trigger's not responding. But that only happens if--"
"The frequency is imbalanced," Harrison finished.
"What?" Barry asked.
Harrison looked as if he knew that he should've figured this out sooner. "Our Earth vibrates at a different frequency than yours."
"Harry, without that frequency..." Cisco trailed off.
"We're up a creek," Barry finished.
We saw Earth-2 Barry Allen on the screen of the TV, reporting. He was wearing a shirt, his hair styled nerd-ishly, and wearing glasses.
ZOOM AND PHOENIX THREAT REMAINS
MAYOR SNART EXTENDS CURFEW
"These attacks were orchestrated by Zoom and Phoenix, and we understand that citizens of Central City are scared, but I can assure you the CCPD has been working diligently..."
Barry was in shock. "That's me."
Cisco laughed. "Yeah, it is."
"Under the leadership of Detective West. We will stop Zoom and Phoenix. That's a promise."
"'The leadership of Detective West'," I told them. "So Joe's still a cop here."
Harrison turned off the TV.
"Yeah, but more importantly, I'm still a CSI," Barry told us. He got an idea. "I have a plan."
Barry zoomed out, leaving, coming back with Barry 2.
Barry 2 gasped in shock. "What just happened?"
Cisco laughed. "Doppelganger."
Barry 2 turned toward us. "Wait, wait, wait, wait, how did I get here?" He looked at Barry and me in shock. "What--who are--who are you?" Barry 1 was overwhelmed, too. I was confused how he knew me--the other me. "How do you look like me?"
"Allen, what are you doing?" Harrison asked.
Barry 2 looked at Harrison in shock. "Harrison Wells." He laughed. "The Harrison Wells. Oh, my God. Am I in STAR Labs?" He looked around. "Okay, I have no idea what is going on here, but I've always wanted to meet you. Your thesis on string phenomenology was revolutionary to me."
Barry shook his head in disappointment that Barry 2 was a complete nerd. "Oh, man."
Barry 2 looked at Harrison. "I had the magazine laminated so I could keep it. I--I--I just want to emulate..."
"This guy's incredible," Harrison told us. Barry gave me a significant look. I nodded. Harrison looked at Barry 2. "I won an award for it, right over there, you see?"
Barry 2 looked at the award. "Oh, it's beautiful."
I put a hand on Barry 2's back, using a surge of heat to make him fall unconscious, putting him into a nearby chair.
Cisco walked closer. "Wh--wha--what did you do? What's wrong with you?"
"Relax," I told him. "Just knocked him out."
Cisco looked at Barry. "Well, why'd you even bring him over here?"
"So he could become him," I answered.
Barry nodded. "While you guys work on the goggles, Vera and I will go to CCPD as him and see if I can figure out what information they have on Zoom and/or Phoenix's previous sightings."
"We can use those sightings to triangulate their hideout," Harrison told us.
"Good," Cisco told us. "That's a good plan."
~
Barry was dressed up as Barry 2 as we walked through town square.
"Just remember what Quinn said, okay?" I asked. "Things here are all sorts of trippy."
"Look, it'll be fine," Barry told me. "We can handle it." He sighed. "It'll be easy."
A young woman walked up toward us, looking at me. "Oh, hey, Vera. I was kind of wondering if I could talk to you for a moment." She looked at Barry. "I'm sorry, Mr. Right, but I would like to borrow my sister for a moment."
Barry and I were shocked, speechless for a moment.
My sister was alive on Earth-2, because Vera Mitchell on this Earth had never become Pyra, so there was no reason to lose her family.
So did that mean the rest of my family was alive?
And since Barry Allen of this Earth didn't die, did that mean that his mother was alive?
I looked at Barry, nodding. "Go ahead. I'll catch up." Barry nodded in understanding, hesitantly walking inside. I looked at what my sister would have looked like now if she had been allowed to live this long. "Kaylee?"
Kaylee wrapped her arm around mine, pulling me along the square. "So, just sister to sister, I was wondering what it took you so long to come out of practices for the auditions and actually visited your family." She smiled teasingly. "It is all work for you all the time."
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that," I told her. "I--I know I've been busy."
"Mom and Dad flew in to watch your audition at Jitters tonight," Kaylee told me. "And of course Josh's gonna be there, with his new girlfriend. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I know how much you hate surprises, so..."
Kaylee led me toward our mother and father of Earth-2, same faces of my parents, and a young man that had to have been Josh, but brother.
I was speechless, emotional to see them all together and alive.
Mom smiled. "Hi, Vera."
I put a hand over my mouth to keep from giving myself away, taking a moment to gather. "Hi, guys."
"I know, it's a surprise for me, too," Josh told me. "All of us here for your audition tonight. Photographers at Jitters and media to record your set and have it air all over... It's gonna be amazing."
Dad stepped closer. "And thank you so much for the anniversary tickets to Atlantis. Your mom and I have always wanted to go."
"Um, I'm--I'm really glad you liked them," I told them, chuckling nervously, in shock, trying not to see how emotional this made me.
"Are you okay?" Mom asked.
I nodded barely. "I'm fine. I'm--I'm--I'm just surprised. Thank you for coming. It really means a lot to me."
"Hey, I know," Mom told me. "Maybe we can give you the plane tickets for you and Barry. A nice little romantic getaway. Give you a start at getting us another grandchild. I mean, Josh and Kaylee have already gave us a few."
"Yeah, it's your turn, Vera," Kaylee told me teasingly.
I chuckled, looking at Mom and Dad. "No, I want you to use them. I'm really glad to see you guys. That you're here."
"Aw, we love you, Vera," Dad told me.
I nodded. "I love you, too."
~
I walked into CCPD, in the hallway outside of Barry 2's lab, crying silently in relief that I had finally gotten to see my family alive and happy after all of this time.
Barry walked out toward me, seeing the tears. "Hey. Are you okay?"
I looked up, nodding. "Yeah. I just..." I took a deep, shaky breath, turning to face him. "I just got to meet my... I mean, her, the other me, her entire family alive. Her parents looked exactly like mine, Barry. And--and the Kaylee and Josh that I just met... I know that's how my brother and sister would've grown up to be. I know, it's stupid, to be this affected by the other me's family, when mine's gone, but..."
Barry stepped closer, shaking his head. "No, it's not stupid. I figured that if your family alive that my mother was alive. And I was right. I called her. I heard her voice. And I know exactly how you feel. It's not stupid, Vera."
I took a deep breath. "The other me, my doppelganger... she has an audition of some kind at Jitters tonight. There's going to be this big, social gathering, photographers, media, everything."
"So?" Barry asked.
"So, Zoom and Phoenix and whoever is working for them are holding this city hostage," I answered. "Do you really think that they're gonna let tonight slide?"
Barry realized I was right, shaking his head. "No. Someone's gonna be there."
"And we gotta be there to stop them from hurting anybody," I told him.
Barry nodded in agreement.
~
Jitters here in this Earth was a fancy, elegant restaurant instead of a coffee shop.
I was wearing a black wig to blend in because we knew that the other me, Vera, was gonna be here, in front of everyone.
Barry and I were dressed for the occasion, though, looking toward where Vera was singing.
(Check the link)
Vera was in an elegant, short dress, a lot more outgoing and confident than I was, singing her heart out in a sassy jazz song as she was being photographed and recorded. She was singing 'Feeling Good' by Michael Buble, but putting her own twist on it in a very sassy but yet calm way. "Birds flying high / You know how I feel / Sun in the sky / You know how I feel / Breeze drifting on by / You know how I feel / It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life / For me."
Barry looked. "I told you way before now, that the Earth-2 Vera Mitchell could be a singer, which wouldn't be that much different than you, except she does it out here in public like this."
"I sang out in public," I told him.
"Twice," Barry told me. "I'm guessing she's done and and is going to do it more than twice."
I gave him a sarcastic smile.
Vera continued to sing, putting the sass in jazz. "And I'm feeling good / I'm feeling good / Fish in the sea / You know how I feel / River running free / You know how I feel / Blossom on a tree / You know how I feel / It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life / For me / And I'm feeling good."
Barry and I took our seats near the back.
"Looks like she's a jazz girl," Barry told me.
"And puts the sass in jazz," I told him.
Barry smiled.
Vera continued to sing. "Dragonfly out in the sun / You know what I mean / Don't you know? / Butterflies all having fun / You know what I mean / Sleep in peace when day is done / That's what I mean / And this old world is a new world / And a bold world / For me / For me."
I looked at Barry. "God, is this really what I sound like when I sing?"
Barry chuckled, shaking his head. "Same voice, but you're a lot more calmer and not striving to get attention."
"Well, I don't like much attention," I replied.
We chuckled, continuing to listen to the song.
Vera continued to sing. "Stars when you shine / You know how I feel / Scent of the pine / You know how I feel / Oh, freedom is mine / And I know how I feel / It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life / It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life / It's a new dawn / It's a new day / It's a new life / It's a new life / For me."
I looked at Barry. "This is so trippy."
Barry nodded in agreement. "You know what else is trippy? Seeing you in a black wig."
I smirked, chuckling. "Says the guy dressed up as the nerd of his doppelganger."
"Touche," Barry told me.
Vera was singing the song to a close. "And I'm feeling good." She drew out the next line in a long, loud, dramatic, beautiful voice. "I'm feeling good / I feel so good." She brought the song to an end with a gentle, quiet voice. "I feel so good."
Everyone applauded the performance.
Vera smiled, winking, taking a bow.
Barry looked across the way. "Hey, there's Iris and Joe."
I followed his gaze to Earth-2 Iris and Earth-2 Joe.
Barry and I looked at each other, stunned. "Wow."
~
Now, Vera was singing a more slow song, calm and sweet, sitting on a stool. It was a more calm, haunting cover of 'Like I'm Gonna Lose You' by Meghan Trainor and John Legend, more like the cover by Jasmine Thompson. "I found myself dreaming / In silver and gold / Like a scene from a movie that every broken heart knows / We were walking on moonlight / And you pulled me close / Split second and you disappeared / And I was all alone / I woke up in tears with you by my side / A breath of relief and I realized / No, were not promised tomorrow / So I'm gonna love you / Like I'm gonna lose you / I'm gonna hold you / Like I'm saying goodbye / Wherever we're standing / I won't take you for granted / 'Cause we'll never know when / When we run out of time / So I'm gonna love you." Barry and I looked at each other, taking the lyrics to heart. "In the blink of an eye / Just a whisper of smoke / You could lose everything / The truth is you never know / So I'll kiss you longer, baby / Any chance that I get / I'll make the most of the minutes / And love with no regrets / Let's take our time to say what we want / Use what we got before it's all gone / No, we're not promised tomorrow." This time when Vera sang the the chorus, it was more passionate, louder, but still gentle. "So I'm gonna love you / Like I'm gonna lose you / I'm gonna hold you / Like I'm saying goodbye / Wherever we're standing / I won't take you for granted / 'Cause we'll never know when / When we run out of time / So I'm gonna love you / Like I'm gonna lose you / I'm gonna love you / Like we're saying goodbye." I leaned closer to kiss Barry for a long moment as she continued to sing. "So I'm gonna love you / Like I'm gonna lose you / I'm gonna hold you / Like I'm saying goodbye." We finally pulled away, breathing a little heavily. "Wherever we're standing / I won't take you for granted / 'Cause we'll never know when / When we run out of time / So I'm gonna love you."
The song came to an end.
Barry looked at me, a little breathless. "What was that for?"
"Listen to the song again, Barry," I told him. "Those are words to live your life by."
We smiled small smiles, kissing once more, sweetly and slowly, but passionately, pulling away when watches and wrist bands were starting to beep all around the restaurant, turning red.
"The metahuman warning app," Vera told us.
Two metahumans walked in, both of them in leather, a woman and a man.
The woman was wearing leather, wearing dark blue makeup, pale, her hair white.
It was Earth-2 Caitlin Snow.
The man was in leather with a quantum splicer attached to his chest, with the device glowing orange.
It was Earth-2 Ronnie Raymond.
Ronnie 2 looked at Vera. "Don't stop singing, sweetheart."
"That's our song," Caitlin 2 told us.
Vera backed away toward her family.
Barry and I looked at them in shock.
~
Caitlin 2 walked closer. "So which one of you lounge lizards is in the wrong universe?" She had a sucker, putting it in her mouth. "Hmm? Show of hands." She leaned closer to a man. "Don't be shy."
Iris 2 went to take out her gun.
Joe 2 whispered to stop her. "No, no, no."
Barry and I exchanged a look, sighing, knowing that we had to do something soon.
Caitlin 2 saw us. "Hey, guys." She stood, walking closer. "There's something different about the two of you."
"No," Barry told her.
"No?" Caitlin asked. We shook our heads, taking in account of how many people would get hurt here. Caitlin 2 sighed in disappointment, turning to face Ronnie 2. "Baby, no one's talking to me."
"What if I make them scream?" Ronnie 2 asked.
Iris 2 stood, drawing her gun on them. "CCPD! Everyone get out of here. You are both under arrest."
Most people were running out, leaving, aside from Barry, Joe 2, Iris 2 and me.
Ronnie 2 held up his hands mockingly.
Caitlin 2 smirked, looking at Ronnie 2. "Ladies first."
Caitlin 2 lowered her hands to her side, ice forming around her hands, forming in them.
"Caitlin," I told her.
"I haven't heard that name in a long time," Caitlin 2 told us.
"But that is your name, isn't it?" I asked. "Your real name?"
"Please, look," Barry told them. "We know you. Don't do this."
"If you knew me at all, you would know that I hate the name Caitlin," Caitlin 2 told us. "I'm Killer Frost."
Killer Frost shot ice toward us.
I shot out fire to melt the ice knives before they could reach any of us.
Barry looked at Joe 2 and Iris 2. "Go. All right? Go, go."
Iris 2 ran toward Joe 2.
Ronnie 2's head and hands caught fire, throwing it toward Iris 2.
"Iris, get down!" Joe 2 told her.
I used fire as a shield.
Killer Frost and Ronnie 2 both shot me with ice and fire, mixing together to cause agony, making me fall to the floor, the remaining shots they fired hitting Joe 2 behind me, throwing him across the room, making him fall.
Iris 2 gasped. "Dad!" She ran to his side. "Oh, my God."
Barry zoomed to take Killer Frost and Ronnie 2 out to where no one would get in the way of a fight.
I used fire to fly, following him, landing on the ground next to Barry.
"Well, hello, breachers," Killer Frost told us.
Ronnie 2 looked at me. "Looks like we got a blaze." He looked at Barry. "And a speedster."
"Oh, I'm shivering," Killer Frost told us. "I've been dying to kill the Flash and Pyra."
"We don't want to hurt you," Barry told them.
Killer Frost smirked, tilting her head. "Trust me, you won't." I sighed in frustration, pulling off the hat and black wig I was wearing, tossing them aside. Killer Frost shot ice toward me repeatedly. I used fire to melt each ice knife before they could get to me. Ronnie 2 shot fire toward Barry. Barry zoomed out of the way. Ronnie 2 let his head and hands catch fire, using fire to fly up into the sky. I used fire to fly up into the sky with him. Each time he shot fire toward me, I used fire as a shield, making fire explode out around us, but it didn't harm either of us. Wind from the explosion blew toward Killer Frost and Barry, but it was too far away from them to hurt them. "God, this is making me so hot."
Killer Frost tried to shoot Barry with ice knives.
Barry zoomed around her, behind her, pushing her against the nearby wall, making her fall to the ground.
I shot Killer Frost with fire, knowing that the blast of fire would hurt her since she was ice but wouldn't kill her since she was a metahuman.
Ronnie 2 let the fire fade, picking Killer Frost up, looking at Barry and me angrily. "This ain't over!"
Ronnie 2 used fire to fly away with Killer Frost.
We heard Iris 2 crying out from Jitters. "Dad!" We got to Jitters, seeing that Joe 2 was unconscious. "Oh, my God."
Iris 2 cried.
~
Barry and I went back to STAR Labs, in the office with Harrison and Cisco.
"Killer Frost and Deathstorm," Harrison told us.
"You know them?" Cisco asked.
Harrison nodded. "More importantly, they know you now. They know that you're here."
"So Caitlin and Ronnie's doppelgangers are evil?" Cisco asked. "Those are some dope names, though."
"This was supposed to be a surgical mission," Harrison told us. "Find Zoom and Phoenix's lair. Rescue Jessie. Get in, get out, not get involved."
"All right, well, look, we are involved, okay?" I asked.
"Joe's in the hospital," Barry told us. "They nearly killed him."
"No, he isn't," Harrison told us. "Joe West, your Joe West, is alive and safe on your Earth, so is Caitlin, so is Iris. These people, they're mirror reflections. As far as your lives are concerned, they don't exist. Killer Frost, Deathstorm, they know that you're here. Then it's not long before Zoom and Phoenix do, too, and then my daughter's dead, and that's on the two of you."
"Jessie still has time, okay?" Barry asked. "Iris and Joe need me now. I have to get back to them."
"She is not Iris," Harrison told us.
"She is Iris!" Barry told him. "Okay, she is to me. No matter what universe I'm in, they are my family. I would think by now you should get how important family is. I'm going, Wells. I have to."
Barry walked out, leaving.
I cleared my throat, looking at Cisco. "Find Zoom and Phoenix. Before they find us. Before they hurt Jessie."
Cisco nodded.
~
Earth-2 Joe West had died in front of Iris 2 and Barry.
Dead Shot in this Earth was Iris 2's partner, and he was called Dead Shot here because he sucked at shooting and hitting a target. His name was Lawton.
Barry, Cisco and I walked toward them in CCPD.
Iris 2 whipped out a baton. "Do I know you?"
"Uh, does she know me?" Cisco asked.
"Uh, this is our good friend, Cisco Ramon," Barry told her.
Iris 2 raised her eyebrows. "Good friend?"
"Yeah," I answered. Iris 2 lowered the baton. "Cisco works at STAR Labs, and he's volunteered to help us in the takedown of Killer Frost and Deathstorm."
"All right," Iris 2 told us. "One of my snitches gave me a lead on their location. We're gonna bring them in."
"Okay, um, we're coming with you, Iris," Barry told her.
"I can't put civilians in harm's way," Iris 2 told us.
"Look, we've seen fire, and we've seen rain," I told her. "We can handle ourselves, okay, Iris?"
Iris 2 hesitated, giving in. "Lawton, let's move."
Lawton clumsily grabbed his things, walking after Iris 2, leaving.
"We need to work on finding Jessie," Cisco told us. "Are you sure this is what you want to be doing?"
"We are, all right?" Barry asked. "Right now, we have to help Iris. Just to make sure no one else gets hurt."
Cisco nodded, following off after Iris 2 and Lawton.
Barry and I sighed, looking at each other, knowing that we had to change out of this attire in favor of our Flash and Pyra suits.
~
We followed them to the warehouse, standing outside until Cisco gave us a signal, but we could hear them through Cisco's tools, through the suits we were wearing as Flash and Pyra.
"You sure they're even here?" Lawton asked.
"Maybe you should stay in the car, Lawton," Iris 2 told him. "Look alive, gents."
"Maybe your snitch was wrong," Lawton told her. "Maybe they're not even here."
"No, they're here," Iris 2 told them.
"You didn't knock," Killer Frost told them. "How rude. Drop them."
"Ronnie," Cisco told him. "Is Martin Stein in there?"
"Oh, I haven't let him out in years," Deathstorm told them. "Doesn't talk much anymore."
Killer Frost laughed.
"You killed my father, you evil son of a bitch," Iris 2 told him.
"You shouldn't have palled around with two breachers," Deathstorm replied. "That's a big no-no as far Zoom and Phoenix are concerned."
"I can't believe you two work for Zoom and Phoenix," Cisco told them.
We heard another voice that was identical to Cisco's. "No, they work for me. I work for Zoom and Phoenix."
"Who the hell are you?" Cisco asked.
Cisco 2 laughed. "Well, that's funny. I just about to ask you the same thing."
"Doppel..." Cisco trailed off.
"Ganger," Cisco 2 finished.
Barry and I looked at each other in shock.
~
"What the hell is going on here?" Iris 2 asked. "Are you two related to each other?"
"I knew there was another me here," Cisco told him.
"And I knew you were coming even before you entered the breach and set foot on this world," Cisco 2 replied. "See, we're all connected... Francisco."
"My name is Vibe," Cisco told him.
"Reverb," Cisco 2 told him.
"Actually not the worst name you could've come up with, but not the best," Cisco told him.
Reverb chuckled. "I've been watching you, Vibe, and I have to say, I am extremely disappointed."
"Yeah, I know the feeling," Cisco told him. "I'm not sure what's worse. The fact that you're part of the Zoenix gang, or that weird samurai situation you got going on on the top of your head there."
"Listen to this," Reverb told him. "What if Zoom and Phoenix wasn't running the show anymore?"
"What do you mean?" Cisco asked.
"You don't even know how powerful you are," Reverb told him. "All you use your powers for are these cheap parlor tricks when you... you could be a god. We could be gods."
"Are you Cloud City Vadering me right now?" Cisco asked.
"Are you out of your mind?" Killer Frost asked. "Let's turn them over to Zoom and Phoenix."
"Speak to me like that again, and I will shatter your entire nervous system without breaking a sweat," Reverb told her. "So, Vibe... Do you want to run Central City? What do you say?"
"I say..." Cisco trailed off, raising his voice to a shout. "Flyra, save us!"
Barry zoomed us inside.
I shot fire at Killer Frost and Deathstorm with fire, making them fall to the ground.
Barry zoomed toward Reverb, throwing him to the ground, making him roll away. He looked at Cisco. "Hey, that didn't hurt you, did it?"
"No," Cisco answered. "Why would it?"
"I don't know," Barry told us.
"And who the hell are you two?" Iris 2 asked.
I looked from Iris 2 to Lawton. "Look, Detectives, just get out of here, all right?"
Iris 2 looked at Killer Frost and Deathstorm. "No, not without them."
Killer Frost and Deathstorm stood.
Deathstorm let his eyes turn black, his head and hands catch fire, throwing fire toward us.
I used fire as a shield to spread in front of us to protect all of us.
Barry zoomed Cisco, Iris 2 and Lawton into separate spots of safety.
I let the fire fade, my hands still on fire, looking at Deathstorm. "Round two."
Deathstorm shot fire toward me.
I caught the shot of fire between my hands, absorbing it into me, making me glow briefly with fire.
Cisco looked at Reverb. "Look, mirror mirror, I already told you I'm not going to the dark side with you."
Lawton yelled in a battle cry, trying to shoot Reverb repeatedly, but he missed each and every time.
"You're a rotten shot," Reverb told him, using a wave of energy to push Lawton back into mats against the wall, making him fall. "I'm not."
"Are you telling me I can do that?" Cisco asked.
Reverb nodded. "I can show you."
Killer Frost shot an ice knife toward Barry. Barry turned back to make the knife hit the wall behind him instead.
Reverb used the waves of energy to throw me and Barry into the walls, pinning us there.
Cisco grabbed Reverb's shoulder. "No!"
Reverb turned to face Cisco, punching him in the face, making him fall.
Deathstorm shot me repeatedly with fire with such force and so much that it actually started to hurt me, making me scream.
Reverb used the waves of energy to suffocate Barry, crushing the waves against him so hard that I could hear bones starting to break.
"Stop, both of you!" Killer Frost told them. "Zoom and Phoenix wanted them alive. You know what they will do if you don't obey them."
Phoenix was suddenly behind Deathstorm, using fire like a sword to stab him through, killing him, making him let the fire fade, pushing him to his knees. "This."
Phoenix grabbed either of Deathstorm's shoulders from behind, setting him on fire with red hot flame that scorched him alive, making him scream, killing him, letting him fall.
Killer Frost was in horrified denial. "No!"
Zoom appeared in front of Reverb. "What did we say you should do if you encountered a speedster or a blaze?"
"Leave them unharmed," Reverb answered.
"Does this look unharmed to you?" Zoom asked.
Reverb looked from Barry to me.
Barry and I were both breathing heavily, weakly.
Zoom phased his hand into Reverb's chest, shredding his heart, making him gasp in pain, killing him, letting him fall.
Phoenix turned to Killer Frost, gripping her throat with a flaming hand, obviously causing her immense pain. "I'm happy to see at least one of you knows their place."
Killer Frost gagged, gasping for breath, in pain from the burning touch.
Phoenix let go, letting her live because she had wanted to obey while the other two hadn't.
Barry and I looked at each other, about to stand and fight back.
Phoenix used fire to push us back down, burning us to cause us so much pain but not to kill us, making us scream in pain.
Cisco ran closer. "Barry! Vera!"
The fire Phoenix used against Barry and me made us see black, unconscious.
~
I woke up to the sound of metallic tapping, still in my suit, my mask still on. I breathed heavily in pain, pulling off my mask, looking around for the source of the noise. I was in a glass cell, trapped. I stood, looking around to see many other cells around me.
The tapping was coming from a figure in a metallic mask tapping against the glass wall of their cell.
Barry was in the cell across from me. "Vera? Vera!" I looked at him. Barry was still in his suit, but his hood was pulled back. "Vera, we're gonna get out of here. I promise."
Zoom zoomed up to Barry's cell, standing on the other side of the glass wall of his cell. "It's not wise to make promises you can't keep, Flash."
Phoenix stepped up in front of my cell, placing her hands on the other side of the glass wall of my cell. "Look around, Pyra. This is the last place either of you will ever see.
Barry and I didn't answer, looking at each from across the way, ignoring Zoom and Phoenix's presences, knowing that we had to get out of there somehow and not show them the fear that they wanted to see.
