Chapter Sixteen
We were currently playing Uno together in the living room of the small cabin. Cole was out to destroy me. I am the reigning Uno champion. I honestly barely know what I'm doing, but I am amazing, got to say.
"Uno." I called out for like the tenth time.
"Are you kidding me." Groaned Cole. I stuck my tongue out at him while everyone else started groaning as I put my last card down.
"Last time I am ever playing this with you." Myra said frustrated. She always hated losing.
"Guys I have to go somewhere to meet up with a friend, I'll be down the street for like 5 minutes." I told them.
"No." Cole said glaring at me. "I am not letting you go to see him." He snapped.
"I need to clear whatever is going on with the two of you and since I seem to be at the center of the problem I am going to fix it." I said putting my coat on and tying my boots. I opened the door only to be stopped by it slamming shut. I looked up to see Cole's arm over my head keeping it closed.
"Cole please I can even text you every minute if It will make you feel better." I said pushing his arm away and opening the door before quickly slipping out. I heard snow crunching behind me. I quickly turned to see Cole following me. "Cole. You don't have to follow me." I said back.
"If you're going to see this complete psycho then so will I." He said wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"We are meeting him at the corner." I said pointing towards the end of the street. Once we got there we waited about two minutes before his car turned the corner parking next to the curb.
"Skye." Seth greeted walking towards us.
"Is it true?" I said cutting to the chase.
"Is what true?" He asked looking me in the eye.
"That you think its ok to say half of the things you said about me to him." I snapped.
"What do you mean I never said anything to him." He said. I noticed he was picking at the sides of his case. Signs he is lying.
"You are lying." I snapped. "I thought we were friends, friends don't practically harass people and pretend they have a relationship with someone that they definitely don't and wont ever have." I said feeling my anger grow.
"Why are you with him? Can you give me one valid reason? He is no different than me." He snapped taking a step towards me. I cautiously took a step back bumping into Cole's chest.
"Because I love him, and he doesn't act anything like you." I snapped. He looked taken aback for a second but quickly hid it.
"When are you planning on telling her? Huh?" He snapped rubbing his hands on his face.
"That was in the past Seth and I would rather it stay that way." Growled Cole. I felt Cole grip my wrist and start pulling me behind him.
"We are done with this." He dragged me away from Seth. "This was a bad idea, I knew we shouldn't have gone." He spat.
"What aren't you telling me?" I questioned. "What happened that you don't want to tell me?" I questioned stopping on the sidewalk. He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Remember when I told you that I didn't exactly have the best past." He said. I vaguely remember him saying something about it. I just nodded my head and looked up into his eyes.
"Seth and I were neighbors growing up. He was into somethings that I wasn't fond of, he would be with a new girl every week, take pills like his life depended on it and drank alcohol as easy as someone would drink water." He said through gritted teeth. "He tried to...to get me to do some of those things as well but unlike him I was able to say no." He said. "Now how about we go inside, we told the others we would only be gone about ten minutes." He said pulling me along side him and back towards the cabin.
"If the messages don't stop you have to tell me." I warned him. He just smiled down at me and pulled me into his side.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too." I smiled pressing my lips to his.
Once we got back to the cabin Myra was asleep on the sofa and Clint was asleep on the recliner.
"I'll order pizza for dinner tonight." I said pulling out my phone. Once I ordered the pizza Cole and I laid down on our bed together. He was running his fingers through my hair and up and down my back when I heard Myra call for me from downstairs.
I hurried downstairs and saw Myra and Clint looking out the window. I squeezed in next to them by the window and looked out to see snow falling heavily. "Once we are done eating our pizza lets have a snowball fight! Just like we used to when we were little." Squealed Myra.
I looked over towards the stairs to see Cole making his way down wearing one of his sweatshirts and a pair of sweatpants. He walked behind me nd wrapped an arm around my waist.
Once we all finished eating we bundled up and headed outside. The snow started falling heavier as we made our way to the small grass area behind the cabin.
"Okay, Everyone has 2 minutes to hide and get your snowballs ready before we start. Ready, set, go!" Yelled Myra. I took off sprinting towards a different side of the house and started building myself a little wall to protect myself and the snowballs I am going to use. I gripped the fluffy white powder in my hands and began molding it into the shape of a snowball. I had about 10 made when I heard footsteps.
I covered myself with snow and slid under the bush lining the house. Call it a bit much but I always win snowball fights. I sure as heck don't plan on losing this one. I saw Clint run by and couldn't miss my opportunity and reached for the snowball and threw it square against his head. "You've got to be kidding me." He groaned. "Losers sit on the lawn chairs in the back and aren't allowed to talk until it is over." I laughed at him. I love Clint but he doesn't know how to win a snowball fight.
He always makes two or three snowballs and runs around in the open trying to find us however what just happened is usually the outcome for him. I heard him huff and puff and then finally sit on the lawn chair. I made some more snowballs and slowly got up. I began standing up and slowly made my way towards the front yard. I heard someone coming so I quickly crouched down and hid behind a bush. I then saw Myra creep by keeping her guard up. I quickly threw one at her but she dodged it. Uh oh. She began throwing them at me but luckily I had the bush for protection.
I chucked another one at her, however, she was too slow this time to dodge it. She threw a mini tantrum and walked to the back yard towards where Clint was. Now just Cole and then I win. I decided to stay in my spot instead of finding him so I can catch him off guard. I decided to move over a tiny bit, which was an awful idea. My pant leg got caught on something I tried tugging it out causing whatever it was to scratch my leg causing me to wince. I reached over and tried to unravel my pants but it was no use.
What the heck is it caught on? I saw blood seeping through and staining the white snow beneath me. Oh geez. I forgot about the snowball fight. "Myra!Clint!Cole!" I yelled. I heard no one coming. Where are they? I started moving the snow around so I could see what is holding me down. It was like a piece of fence or something that used to be up. They obviously must have missed this piece when they were cleaning it up. The snow was making it impossible for me to get up with this stuck to me, since its almost completely submerged in the thick heavy snow that is still falling.
"Myra! Cole! Clint!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. What if something happened to them but I was just too into the game to realize? Now I started freaking out. I felt my breathing quicken to a rapid pace. "Do you think she went inside?" I heard someone say. "Myra! Clint! Cole! Someone please help!" I yelled again blood was still flowing out of my leg and onto the snow. That's when I saw two unrecognizable people turn the corner of the house and start looking around. Were they the people who were looking for me. I didn't move at all. "I don't know man, I didn't want to do this anyway." I heard one of them grumble. Wait s minute that one looks like Seth. "We have to find her to teach Cole a lesson." Grumbled the other one. Wait that's Cole's dad. Why can't my friends and I just have a normal week. I felt under the bush for anything I could use so I grabbed a stick(more like a twig)and hoped for the best.
"Found her." laughed Cole's dad. He walked beside me and knelt down. He began examining my wound before shoving his finger into the cut causing me to scream out in pain. "Looks like she made our job a bit easier." He chuckled.
"Do we have to do this to her, why not just go straight for Cole?" questioned Seth, wait what are they planning on doing to Cole. I began screaming furiously and thrashing around trying to get away from them when I felt a fist connect with the side of my face.
"Get away from me!" I screamed.
"SKYE!!!" I heard a furious Cole scream with Myra and Clint right behind him. "let her go!" He yelled walking closer to us. I took this as my opportunity and used my good leg and shoved his dad into the wall and tried to get unstuck. Seth walked over to me and was going to grab me but instead went for Cole's dad and punched him in the face until he was out cold. Cole hurried over to me and began assessing my injuries. He used his teeth and ripped off the part of my pants that was caught. "Shit." He mumbled under his breath. He lifted me up. I felt exhausted.
"Oh my god." I heard Myra shriek. She hurried over and began looking at my leg. "She might need stitches." She mumbled.
"No I'm fine." I mumbled not wanting them. He placed me on the couch gently and left to get some paper towels and water to clean my cut.
"Your cheek might just be bruised for a few days." Myra told me. I just nodded and felt my eyes flutter closed I felt so exhausted.
