Wait did he just say he likes me.
" You like me? Why me when you could practically be with anyone else?" I asked him feeling like this is just some sick joke.

"Not every girl has your sense of humor, is as beautiful as you as kind as you and you are the only person that makes me smile as much as I have been. Forget it I shouldn't have said anything." He said scratching his head and turned to go back to his car.

That was so sweet. Before I realized what I was doing I grabbed his arm pulling him into a kiss.

He seemed surprised at first but eventually kissed back. He wrapped his arms around my shivering figure. We both pulled away and looked at each other.

" Your freezing." He said grabbing something from his car and tossing it at me.

" Oh it's fine. What if you get cold or something." I went on.

" No I won't. You wear it." He laughed.
" Do you want to go somewhere else?" He asked and I just nodded. I sat in the passenger side of the car and he drove away.

" Where are we going?" I asked him.

" It's a surprise." After that we sat in the car in silence but not an awkward silence a comfortable silence. So comfortable it could make you fall asleep and that's exactly what happened I fell asleep.

" Skye wake up we're here." I heard Cole say while shaking me. I rubbed my eyes and saw we were at a diner. We got out of the car and started walking towards the entrance.

We walked down a few steps and entered the small place.

" Hello." An older looking lady said.

" Hi how are you?" I responded smiling.

" Oh I'm fine dear how are you? Table for 2?" She asked winking at cole.

"You've got to be shitting me nana." He replies rolling his eyes.

"Nana?" I laughed and she laughed even louder. She led us to a table in the corner near a window.

Cole asked her for a few things but I didn't hear because I was too distracted by the interior of this small diner.

There were medals. Pictures of families from decades ago.

" Does your Nana owns this place?" I asked smiling.

" Yep. It's pretty cool I guess isn't it?" He smiled back.

" I'm sorry about the party." He frowned.

" You have nothing to apologize for." I responded making my heart feel a little heavy.

"Here it comes." He laughed.
Thats when I saw a beautiful and I mean beautiful chocolate cake coming our way.

" Here you kids go." His nana smiled and placed it on our table.

" This looks so good." I said pinching myself to see if it was real.

" We both dug in with our forks. I was about to go for a piece when our forks clashed into each other's.

" It's mine." We both said staring each other dead in the eye. I saw something mischievous flash through his eyes.

He grabbed my fork and through it on the floor and went to grab it when I yanked his fork away and gently placed it next to mine never losing eye contact from him.

I noticed he was about to go in with his hand when I slapped it away and tried to grab it with mine.

" Rock Paper Scissors?" I questioned he nodded.

" Rock paper scissor..." i was cut off by him grabbing the cake and shoving it in his mouth.

" You.." i hissed.

He just laughed hysterically. I flicked his head.
  
" Ow what was that for." I just laughed.
" It's almost 1 am we should probably get going." He said as we both cleaned up the mess.

He drove towards my house.

" You can stay if you want no ones home or will be home for a couple weeks. And I know your father isn't the best person out there." I looked at him hopeful I need someone right now.

" Sorry as much as I want to I think it's a bit too soon for that." He stated while texting someone on his phone.

" Are you going back to the party?" I asked him.

" What are you trying to be my fucking mom now?" He snapped.

I thought we were passed this whole I'm nice to you one minute and a complete jerk the next. I turned and slammed the door in his face. That crossed the line. I walked upstairs and got changed and decided to call Claire and see when's she's going to get home.

" Hey Claire. I was just checking in to see how much longer it's going to be till you get back." I said through the phone.

" I don't know they still haven't found your dad yet but they are working on it. And they told me that they are only continuing the search for 2 more weeks before social services is going to get you into foster care." Foster care I'm going to be 18 in a 3 months.

" I can't go into foster care." I mumbled.

" I'm going to try to get custody of you but it's hard because they don't think you should be with another soldier." She said.

" Okay keep me updated bye." I  said and hung up. I felt a tear slide down my cheek. I just have to make it through this year. I just have to make it through. I got up and splashed my face with water to try to calm myself down. I heard a knock coming from downstairs. I hurried down and opened the door to see Cole.

" What do you want?" I asked not having the energy for this.

" Look I'm sorry I was a total douche."he said frowning.

" Yeah you were." I said and turned around to go sit on the couch leaving the door open for him to come in.

" They're putting me into foster care." I blurted out.

" They're What!" He Yelled.

" I'm 17." I frowned.

" Shouldn't you be 18 by now?" He asked sitting down next to me.

" I turn 18 On Christmas Eve." I said looking up at him.

" That's so fucked up." He frowned.

" Why did you snap at me earlier?" I asked.

" I just saw a text I didn't like. I didn't mean to lash out on you." He said frowning.

" I get it. But you have to realize that if you want whatever we have to work that can't happen on a constant because that's just not fair to either of us." I said.

" What do you mean?" He asked.

" If what we have evolves I guess you could say that can't happen." I said.

"Assuming that it evolves." He muttered.

"Okay what's your problem? Because if you want to be a jerk than you can just leave." I snapped.

" Sorry I'm just not having a good day. I walked in on my dad and some random women doingThe deed in my living room and then I got a text from one of my so called friends." He said in a rush of words.

" That sucks." I said giving him a reassuring smile.

" Thanks for being my friend." He smiled.

" And thanks for being mine." I said smiling back.
