Chapter Eighteen
Today was our last day in New York so we decided to go swimming in the indoor pool today.
I wore the white halter bathing suit with black bottoms. Myra wore a mint colored bikini. I sat on the edge while they were all swimming around. More like Cole trying to pull me into the pull, I guess almost killing me once by drowning wasn't enough.
I saw him start swimming towards me again. I started splashing him uncontrollably until he started backing off.
"Go!" I called as Myra and Clint started a game of basketball. I was about to stand up when a hand grabbed my leg yanking me towards the deep end. I screamed as I fell into the pool. Before my head could go underwater Cole's arms grabbed ahold of my legs and he held me bridal style.
I gave him a dirty look when I saw his smirking face. "Betcha didn't see that coming." He chuckled.
"You are going to be the death of me." I laughed.
"Why? Because unless you plan on dying from laughing too much I don't see how." He smirked. I flicked him in the head and he let go of me.
I shrieked and grabbed onto his neck and wrapped my legs around his waist. I held on for dear life.
"Cole! This isn't funny." I said holding on tighter.
"I'm afraid that if you strangle me we will both end up underwater." He said pretending to be hurt from my grip. Before I could react I was hanging onto his back as he moved us to the shallow end.
Once we got to a spot I could stand. I held onto the wall and refused to let go.
"Myra that was cheap!" Yelled Clint as he tried stopping her from shooting the pool basketball into the net.
She laughed in victory and ran around the pool yelling that she was the winner.
"Hey Skye?" Said Myra.
"Yeah?"
"Guess who won? Take a guess?" She said,
I bursted out into laughter.
After about an hour we got out of the pool and decided to start packing our stuff up. Cole was lazily stuffing stuff into his duffel bag. I neatly folded my clothes and put them back into my suitcase.
"I love you." He smiled pulling me into a tight embrace.
"I love you too." I smiled leaning up on my tippy toes and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
He immediately leaned in and pressed his lips against mine and held me impossibly closer.

Once we got back to my house I unlocked the door and walked in.
"Claire!" I called. No answer. She must not be home, so I quickly texted her to let her know we are home.
We both felt too tired to do much so we laid down on the couch and cuddled for what felt like forever yet not long enough, when the door opened.
"Hey kids." Claire smiled warmly. I stood up and walked over to her giving her a hug. "Happy birthday." She smiled.
"I'm going to head to bed today was a long day." She smiled before heading up the stairs. I walked into Coles arms. I wish I could just stay there forever.
"Can I tell you something?" He asked me. I nodded. "What should we do about college once we graduate?" This kind of caught me off guard. I mean I haven't really thought too much about where I want to go.
"I haven't really thought about it." I shrugged.
"I mean you still would want to go to the same place right?" He questioned.
"I kind of want to stay somewhat close to here." I said. I'm scared of being too far from the cemetery where I can visit dad.
We walked up the stairs and decided to head to bed.
"What are you doing? You are such a disappointment of a daughter? I wish you weren't mine. Look at you." Dad snapped in a voice I've never heard before.
A mirror stood to the right of me. Showing a broken girl, who had mascara running down her cheeks and red puffy eyes. Her hair was all messed up and her eyes looked so lifeless. This girl was me.
"dad?" I questioned as tears rolled down my cheeks. He was wearing his army uniform however there was a bullet hole in his chest that had blood seeping out of it.
I screamed. The only thing I could do. I couldn't stop screaming the vision of him standing here with the bullet wound was too much.
I shot up in my bed and right into a worried Coles arms. I heard Claire running into the room and slamming the door open.
"What happened?" She questioned. I was sitting on Cole's lap as I clutched onto his shirt. He was rubbing scooting circles on my back.
"I saw him." I croaked.
"Oh honey." Said a sympathetic Claire. She walked over and started brushing my hair with her fingers. "Want to talk about it?" She asked. I shook my head rapidly and placed my head on Coles shoulder.
'You are such a disappointment of a daughter'
I couldn't get it out of my head. It was bouncing off the inside of my skull. I felt my body shake with a sob. I tried to get myself under control. It was just a dream. It was just a dream.
"You guys can go back to bed I'm going to get a glass of water quickly. Sorry for waking you guys up." I frowned as I tried to get the tears to stop pouring out of my eyes. Claire gave me a quick hug before heading back to her room.
"Want me to come with you?" Cole asked me.
"I'll be quick." I said while wiping my eyes. I stood up and walked down the stairs. I filled a glass with water and drank it quickly. I placed it on the counter and then gripped the edge of the counter with my hands tightly.
I felt like my head was going to explode. Was He really ashamed to have me as a daughter? What am I saying dad loved me. I felt my eyes start tearing up again at the thought of my loving father saying those things in my nightmare.
I jumped when I felt arms wrap around me. All in that moment I fell apart. I don't know how I'm going to do it tomorrow. Tomorrow is officially going to be the worst day besides from when I found out the news about my dad.
Tomorrow was my dads birthday.
