Chapter One: To Prairie Peaks

"The Stars have been brought back and the Aviary Village has been restored to its peaceful glory." The Isle Elder, Daleth, said, "placing his hands together, "all thanks to the Star Child, Primrose."

"Yes, yes," the Prairie Elder, Ayin, said with a soft chuckle, "she has done well for her many Journeys; now she has been reborn." "Indeed," the Forest Elder,  Teth, said calmly, "but there's still darkness arriving in the midst of the Kingdom of Sky."

"How do you figure?" The first Valley Elder, Sah, asked, looking at Teth, "things have calmed down."

"Now they have," Teth huffed, "darkness is coming towards the Kingdom of Sky and the Star Children have to stop it. Especially the Prince." "Calm down, Teth," Daleth said calmly.

The other Elders looked at him. "The Star Children will bring back the light and save their home from darkness," he said, "we all know this. We must have faith in them. Just as we have had faith in Alef."

The other Elders nodded and looked up at the stars that glowed brightly in the darkness.

Thunder rumbled distantly, the light reflecting off the walls. The sounds of the waves crashing against the sand roused the Star Child from her sleep and she slowly pushed herself onto her hands and knees.

She blinked open her eyes and looked around. She was a newborn Star and she whimpered softly at the cold.

There was a small song and she looked to see another Star Child looking at her with curiosity. She stared at him for a moment before she reached for his hand and he pulled her up onto her feet.

She tilted her head and looked around. There were many other Star Children waking up. She looked at the Star Child standing next to her.

A Spirit appeared before the Star Children and gave a friendly smile. The first Star Child watched the others happily chat with the Spirit before she looked up and saw darkness appearing over the sky. Her eyes widened but she couldn't move.

Why couldn't she move? She tried to speak but no sound came out. She looked towards the other Star Children but to her shock and fear, they were laying down, their colors gone- turned to a dull grey and silver. They were covered in black and red crystals.

The first Star Child whimpered softly and started to cry. Thunder rumbled and crackled loudly. The sound echoed in her ears and she wanted nothing more than for it to stop.

Rose opened her eyes with a gasp, her entire body jolting as her heart pounded against her chest. She sat up and looked around nervously.

She noticed that the cot on the other side of the room was empty. Her eyes widened and she nearly fell out of her own cot, trying to get up.

"Rose?" A familiar voice called out as a male Star Child walked into the room, "you okay?" He had a dark blue cape and short white hair.

"I'm fine, Kaji," she sighed softly as she got to her feet, dusting herself off.

"Ready for the assignments?" Kaji asked curiously, "Kuvo is waiting for us outside." "Yeah," Rose sighed, "I'm coming, I'm coming." She stretched her arms and flapped her arms a bit before she followed Kaji out of the room.

Kuvo looked at them. Kuvo was older than Kaji and Rose. He was also Kaji's brother. He had white spiky hair and he had a black cape.

"Took you long enough," he said, "thought you were gonna take forever." "Sorry Kuvo," Rose sighed, "I... must've overslept."

"Nightmares again?" Kuvo asked. Rose looked away in response before she flew up into the air. Kuvo glanced at Kaji who shrugged and flew up after Rose. Kuvo flew after the two.

"What assignments are there again?" Rose asked.

"You'll see," Kaji said, "the other Star Children are waiting at Daylight Prairie."

"They must be excited," Kuvo chuckled. Kaji only nodded as he gave a soft chuckle. The three flew down and landed on the Butterfly Fields.

"Chance!" Rose said happily and she ran over to the other girl. "Hi Rose," Chance said happily. She had short white hair and a golden cape.

Chance giggled as Rose almost tackled in her into a hug. "Ready for your first assignment?" She asked, ruffling Rose's hair, making her giggle.

"Yeah," Rose said with a soft smile. She looked over at the other Star Children who were playing around near the Cherry Blossom Tree. She smiled softly. The sight of the tree made her feel better and the nightmare wasn't even on her mind now. There was a musical sound and everyone looked to see the Butterfly Charmer Spirit waving the Star Children over to him.

"Is everyone ready for their assignments?" He asked. "Yes," the Star Children said excitedly in unison.

Rose smiled softly as the Prairie Spirit started to give out assignments to every Star Child in the area. When it was her turn, her heart was filled with happiness. She was going to be collecting crystals from the Pairie Peaks. As amazing as that place was, her heart sank as she realized that it would be hard, considering that those crystals seemed to always be stuck in the ground or the walls and it was even harder for other Sky Kids to even get.

Shaking away her nervous thoughts, she smiled and ran over to Kaitlin. "Kaitlin," she said with a happy giggle.

"Hehe, hi Rose," Kaitlin said with a soft smile. Rose hugs her happily and Kaitlin immediately returns the hug.

"Ready to go?" Rose asked. "I always am," Kaitlin said with a wink. The two joined hands and without a moment's hesitation, they took flight.

They flew through the sky before they landed by the boat. Rose smiled, "I don't know if I'm excited or nervous." Kaitlin giggled.

"You've only been here a few times during the Season of Moments," she stated.

"Stiiillll!" Rose giggled, "it was kinda hard. Do you know how hard it was to find all those Spirits? And to get the Winged Light?"

The two laughed as they climbed into the boat. They closed their eyes and breathed out. The sound of bells met their ears and they nearly yelped as the boat jerked and rocked before it started moving.

Rose giggled excitedly and Kaitlin smiled. The boat drifted through another opening before it stopped.

Rose jumped out of the boat.

"Wait for me!" Kaitlin laughed as she climbed out and ran after her friend. They ran out onto a small cliff edge and the sight of Prairie Peaks greeted them.
