Chapter Two
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
My alarm buzzed me awake. Groaning, I slammed the top of the alarm, making the room go quite. I heaved out of my warm covers, my tired mind finally remembering why I had an alarm for a day I don't have work.
My tiredness washed away like a wave. I quickly put on black pants and a white shirt with the tips of the sleeves designed with small, gold colored silk pattern. I let my hair flow down to my lower back, deciding to not braid my hair. Hastily, I put on my blue necklace, then slipped on some ankle-boots.
Breakfast went by like a blur. I greeted my mother and brother in the wooden kitchen, helping my mother prepare breakfast. I didn't really feel that hungry so I took an apple from the counter.
Of course, I waited for about thirty minutes before all of us were ready to go to the docks, where the Rider Picking was held.
"Amira, I'm just telling you that you shouldn't be that excited for this. It takes most of the day to get through the kids your age and usually they don't even do the girls because the guys were all already picked for the certain amount of people chosen." My mother reminded me.
A small sigh escaped my lips. "Yeah I know.."
The docks and the crowding people appeared in front of my family and I as we joined them. I shoved through some people, muttering apologies as I finally got a front view. There was a long line of boys my age, all waiting uncomfortably, probably nervous of course. A boy steps up to the man standing behind a table. On the table, a bowl of clear water. From what I was told, it was water from a farther away lake called Fountain of Truth. The color would either turn a certain color by the touch of your hand showing you would become a Magic User or Rider, or do nothing, meaning you would continue your normal life, living your life as a villager.
From what I was seeing, a lot of times the water did nothing, or lit up in a diluted or vibrant color. A lot of time passed by waiting, and there were 6 more boys left. So far, All the Magic User spots were chosen, which was 40 boys connected to Magic as usual. There were 5 more Dragon Riders who were supposed to be chosen.
My hopes dropped completely. Usually at least a few girls were chosen each Rider Picking but clearly the spots would all be chosen.
A tall boy approaches the table. The man looks at him, gesturing to the bowl. The boy hesitated slightly, but put his hand into the bowl. Immediately, the water changed to a light crimson gold. The boy gleamed, and his parents cried in joy. It was always a big honor to become a Dragon Rider.
Another boy went up, the water changing to a lighter gold. 3 more boys left and 3 more spots. A smaller boy quickly put his hand in the water, it changing somewhat the same color as the last few Dragon Riders. A short boy went up to the bowl, placing his hand in. It almost seemed like everyone held their breath. Nothing. Nothing happened, the water stayed clear.
The boy let out a cry of shock, backing up and quickly walking away. That's unusual. There is one more boy left and 2 more Dragon Riders still need to be chosen. That means I might have a chance! The last boy stood tall, his confidence radiating from even the front of the crowd where I was. He put his hand in.
Nothing. All the boys have gone and there are still two more spots left. The towns people started talking quietly to each other in low mutters.
The man who was behind the table yells loudly so all of us can hear.
"This has happened before! Can we please have the girls come up in a line, stating your name for before putting your hand in the bowl!"
The girls lined up quickly, me being in the middle of the line. My heart raced rapidly. Do I still have a chance? There are so many girls, anyone of us could be the two remaining Dragon Riders! A small bit of hope flickered inside of me.
Time passed quickly, and before I knew it, I was next in line, with none of the girls being chosen yet.
"Name." The man in front of me said slightly sternly.
"Amira Of Belvmot. Daughter of Jason of Belvmot." I said quickly.
He slightly nods, looking to the bowl. I slowly reach my hand out, placing it in the bowl.
Nothing. No! I thought I had a chance.. I was about to take my hand out when I felt the water become warmer, like a blast of heat was sucked into the water. I hear my family let out a large gasp.
I look down to the bowl. The water changed to a bright golden, the clearness of the water almost completely gone. I take my hand out, the water slowly turning back to clear again.
The mans' eyes widened slightly. "Pack your Things quickly, and meet back at the docks so you can go with the other Riders." I slightly nodded, barely hearing him.
I rushed to my family, tears streaming down my face as I say good bye to all of them, before running back to our house, to pack my things.
After packing my things into my large bag, I hurry to the docks after an hour of packing. Everyone had cleared out, leaving me and the other people chosen to be Dragon Riders. The man from before was there.
"Hello. If you all don't already know, I'm Mason. The adult Dragon Riders who have been at the Academy for a long time will fly here with there dragons to take us to the Academy. Any questions?"
Everyone glances at each other. Mason looks around, " Okay good. Now, speaking of the experienced Dragon Riders..." Mason points to the sky.
All of us look up. Through the clouds were large winged dragons. 5 dragons came down from the sky, landing next to us.
Mason yells, "Four to a Dragon! If you have any questions ask the Dragon Rider you will be riding with."
I didn't really listen. I was looking at the large dragons. Me and three other people approached a large white dragon, a short, black haired Lady was on a saddle in front, giving us a small smile and motioning with her hand to get on.
I hoped up, getting in the saddle behind the Dragon Rider.
She turned around to all of us. "My name is Andrea. My dragon is Breeze and he is a Wind Dragon, because of his gray-ish white scales. We are going to be on Breeze for about 2 hours, to fly to the Rider Academy. Any other questions?"
I shake my head and look behind me, seeing no one else had any questions. Everyone on the other dragons were ready as well.
All of a sudden, Breezes' large wings sprung up, flying into the air. I couldn't help but smile, the feeling of the air against my face. After about ten minutes, we started flying strait, the wind more silent and calming.
I feel a small tap on my shoulder and I turn around. Behind me was a tall girl around my age, with hazel brown hair and forest green eyes. She smiles shyly.
"Hi. I'm Leani. I saw you get picked before me. I'm the second girl Dragon Rider of course."
"Oh that's cool. It's sort of weird having a lot of Dragon Rider's being guys.. but there will probably be other girls from the other Kingdoms. Oh sorry. I'm going off topic... my name is Amira. Nice to meet you." I gave a full-hearted smile at her and Leani gave a smile back as well.
We chatted with each other for a while. She was actually really fun to talk to and once I got her talking, she actually is really funny.
Andrea turns around. "Okay. So what we are about to go through is a Realm Portal to another realm. The whole island in the other realm is the Academy. When going through the portal, hold onto your saddle. Be prepared, we are going through soon!"
What? I have absolutely no idea what was happening. Until I saw the portal. A large, water looking wall in the middle of no where was just..., there. The portal was blue, about 10 times the size of Breeze.
My heart heated rapidly as we suddenly went through the portal.

I'm not too happy with this, but I usually become a lot more detailed when writing about magic. So the story will get better :D.
