Gossip and Tea

Blood was said to be thicker than water. In Natalie's world, the opposite held truth.

No one stayed in her life for long. Only her mother and sister stuck with Natalie through her measly fifteen years of existence. Too bad they were one argument away from being out of each other's lives forever.

Natalie was the bearer of all secrets. She had to hold in what each side said to each other, no one caring about what she thought. How much it killed her when the people she loved spoke shit about the other.

Natalie was not a gossip. She did not like to delve in the rumors of her school. Who slept with who, or who overdosed in the school's bathroom. Often, Natalie would hear her mother talk of her sister like she was the scum of the earth. Or how her sister, Eleanor, would rant about how their mother did not know how to speak English properly even though she lived in the damn country for twenty-eight years.

Like a child in the middle of an impeding divorce, she waited. She waited for the day where one side would explode and end it all. At least then she wouldn't have to experience the awkward family dinners and arguments over text.

Losing hope she might have a happy family, in desperation, Natalie did the thing that would soon end it all. She told her mother what Eleanor said in secret. Some part of her thought maybe their mother would understand and speak about the situation.

And so, Natalie told her about hurt Eleanor was when their mother left her in Mexico to go to the states. How Eleanor felt like their mom chose her husband over her daughter. And finally, how their mom was never there for Eleanor.

Little did she know a few words wouldn't solve decades of a strained relationship. There was nothing she could do to make the situation better.

She would only make it worse.

For months, she felt like she was all alone. Her mother, betrayed that they were speaking about her behind her back, lost all trust in her youngest daughter. Infuriated that Natalie told something so personal to her mother, Eleanor immediately stopped talking to her little sister. She lost both of them in the blink of a second. Now, she had no one. Only a damaged black journal that would never compare to the love of her mother and sister.

Natalie was a hypocrite. She said she wasn't a gossip, but that was a lie. Instead of being the glue that held her remaining family together, Natalie was the hammer that broke them apart.

If she could change one thing, she would take it all back. Natalie would shut her damn mouth and keep those secrets at the back of her mind. Even if it killed her.

Because then, at least her family would be intact. Barely standing, but intact.

A/N-  I decided to move it here because I want to minimize the amount of works on my profile. This is based of real life so please no hate, this entry means a lot to me. I'm a lot like Natalie, and I'm through what she is right now. Anyway, thanks for reading.
