Chapter 8

Mitch's pov

We've been exploring room after room after room. All we saw in the rooms were deadly statues, creepy mannequin heads, and more deadly women paintings. There were even more puzzles with each room we went into, each one more confusing than the last.

Taxey was weirdly happy whenever we got chased. She would laugh ,turn around and wave at the deadly art works. She would always do that until Sky would grab her wrist and pull her along ,running. Sky would pull her along as she laughed like we weren't in danger. Sky didn't mind the silliness but I did, every time she does this we are closer to death.

"Mitch?" Sky asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Hmm?" I replied.

"Let's go to the next room, hopefully it isn't as deadly as the last one." He said.

The last room we've been in had swarms of headless statues and women paintings, we were nearly toast. Luckily we made it into a small room with a few bookcases in the back.

I was just in the corner of the room, contemplating, and Sky was trying to keep Taxey from leaving the room without us.

"Yeah Mitchie ,lets go!" Taxey said way to cheerfully.

I sighed and got up from my corner and followed them out. Taxey ran out the door, Sky ran after her yelling at her.

"Here we go again." I mumbled as Sky tried to keep her in his reach.

Taxey was a ball of joy that would keep our spirits up, but sometimes it just gets annoying.

"Taxey! Stay where I can see you!" Sky yelled at her.

She stopped in her tracks and walked back to Sky, who grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to me.

"Sorry Sky." She said with a quivering lip.

Sky just sighed and walked beside me to the end of the hall. There were no surprises as we walked down the hall, which was suspicious. I pushed aside my suspicions as we made it to the next door. It had vines painted on it, coiling around the doorknob.

"Ooh! Can I open the door?" Taxey asked, Sky looked at me with questioning eyes.

"Why not." I replied, Taxey smiled with glee and ran out of Sky's grasp.

She grasped to doorknob and pushed aside the door. She revealed a hall that had a painting at the end where it split into opposite directions. We went inside and walked directly to the painting. As we got to the painting we at first saw just a green canvas.

As we got closer I could just barely make out a small dot in the middle. Once we stood in front of the painting we all stared at the small dot on the canvas.

"What is that?" Sky asked.

"Umm, it seems to be a dot on a canvas." Taxey answered.

The dot then grew larger.

"What is that?" I asked.

The dot then instantly grew into an exotic flower ,nearly escaping the frame. Sky stepped back from the painting until the floor under us began to rumble. Vines shot out of the ground, cracking the floor.

"Everyone out of the way!" Sky screamed as he pushed me and Taxey to one side, as he stayed on the other.

I fell on my back along with Taxey, just as the vines grew in height. It reached the ceiling ,poking it with its sharp points. The ground stopped rumbling and the vines stopped growing. A moment of silence passed before any of us spoke.

"Sky?" I asked, my voice trembled.

"I-I'm fine, h-how about you?" I heard Sky from the other side.

I sighed with relief knowing that he was alright.

"We're ok, can you get to us?" Taxey yelled through the vines.

"Um let me see." Sky yelled.

Taxey's pov

It seems that the vines worked but I'm with the wrong person. I can still hear Sky's petty attempts at trying to find a way around the vines. Even though my plan is somewhat tainted I can still make this work. All I need is a weapon, I know there are some in here but I forgot where.

"Oh wait, I have an idea!" Mitch exclaimed.

He rummaged through his jacket pockets to pull out a lighter. My hands became ice cold, as my mouth gaped open. He had a lighter, echoed in my head, he had a lighter. He flicked it and a small flame was born, the blood drained from my face.

"Let me try." Mitch said as he placed the flame on the vine.

Nothing happened, the vine didn't catch on fire. Mitch was perplexed then blew the flame out. He placed the lighter back in his pocket and placed his hand on the vines.

"What the... These vines, they're made out of stone!" He exclaimed.

He then turned to me to see me still in shock.

"Are you ok? You're really pale." Mitch said as Sky gasped in surprise.

It took me awhile to answer and all I said was," I-I'm fine."

Mitch seemed to doubt my answer until Sky took his attention.

"Why don't we separate? These vines won't budge and staying here just takes us longer to escape." Sky yelled over the vines.

Mitch thought about it for a moment until he agreed to Sky's plan.

"Fine. Just make sure that you're safe, ok?"

"Don't worry I'll be fine, you stay safe too." He replied.

Mitch looked back to me and I nodded to him. Looks like we're going to separate for now. No matter, this is way better than my intended plan. This makes it way easier than thinking that my friends are going to be able to kill him. At least I get a close up on his demise.
