Chapter 3
Sky could feel his heart beat become slower as his end was coming closer. Then he could barely feel his feet escape the paint quicksand.
Wh-what?
Sky hoped it was something good as he was being suffocated. Soon he could feel his waist slowly come out and Sky was running out of time. His life was on the line, then his shoulders slowly slid out of the thick paint.
His head finally slipped out of the paint with a little pop, making him fall to the floor below him. Sky didn't even know he was out, he thought he was dead for sure. He fell with a thump on the floor below ,making his body bruised ,battered ,and painful.
Sky wearily looked up as he took deep breaths. He didn't move from where he fell, he was too weak. He laid on his side as he filled his lungs up with air. Breath after breath he was able to salvage the last of his strength.
"F-f*ck." He said breathlessly.
After a few minutes ,he was able to push himself up to a kneeling position. His whole body ached from his fall and his head was spinning while giving him a headache.
"Aw f*cking sh*t."
He rubbed his temples as he soothed his headache. He managed to stand up but wobbled and leaned against a wall next to him. He leaned against the wall ,mentally pushing himself to stand.
He struggled on his feet ,and after many failed attempts he stood up on his own. He held up his own weight as he looked around, his vision blurry. He shook his head and made his vision only a bit clearer.
Once his vision became clear enough and his headache a dull throb ,he noticed his surroundings. He was in another hallway except its walls were painted a dark shade of red, the color of blood.
As he looked around he also noticed the ceiling. Above him was the pool of paint he nearly died in. Sky then immediately looked down on his clothes ,and to his surprise not a speck of paint was on him. He looked back up thinking the paint will drip down. It didn't.
He directed his eyes to the stairs and just saw the dark abyss that it led to. He sighed at his upcoming decision, and slowly stepped down to the first step. He winced but continued down the stairs. As Sky descended ,all he could see were the blood colored walls.
After a few minutes he made it to the bottom. The stairs led him to two hallways, one leading left and another leading right. Sky poked his head out to see where the halls led to.
In the left hall, he was able to see a painting hanging on the wall with a small table with a vase resting on it with something poking out of it. He turned his head to see the right hall to see another painting as well as a door. Sky looked back at the left hall and decided to go there first. He walked down the hall to the end of it, where the table rested.
As he neared the table ,he noticed that a door was behind it, and the thing in the vase turned out to be a rose. Sky now stood in front of the vase and was examining the rose. The rose was an unnatural bright shade of yellow. Each petal was perfect down to the stem which had a single leaf on it.
Sky picked the rose out of the vase and held it delicately, scared he could destroy its immense beauty. He held to it as if it were his own life, he then placed it carefully in the pocket of his pants, making sure he can't destroy it. Sky then looked back up to the door which was blocked by the table. Sky thought to push the table to the side, and so he did.
He pushed it out of the way, making a loud scraping sound. Once he was done with that he turned back to the door. He reached for the knob and turned it, he pushed it aside and looked into the room.
The room was a bit creepy, there was a painting inside and something stood out about the painting. The painting contained a woman with blue-ish green hair with her eyes closed and a wide smile. Sky looked down at the frame to see that the woman's hair was spilling out of frame.
Sky stood at the doorway looking around the room to see if there was anything he needed. He looked on the walls then looked at the floor to see something glinting. He hesitantly left the doorway and headed for the small object on the floor.
When his foot was right next to the object, he found out it was a small key. Sky kneeled down to pick it up, as his head was down the painting's eyes opened. Sky looked back up once he pocketed the key next to the rose and fell back from the painting. The eyes were looking to the side, but it was the same terror he would feel if it was looking at him.
He quickly stood up and ran out the room closing the door as he left.
*sigh*why me?
He leaned on the door, trying to slow down his heart beat. The cold metal of the key sent shivers down his spine, as he started to walk through the other hall. There was nothing other than a painting along with the door he saw earlier down there. He now stood in front of the door, he was afraid to see what was behind it now. He reached for the doorknob and turned it.
Click
Sky knew that sound, it was locked. When he heard the click he immediately thought of the key. Sky pulled the key out of his pocket and inserted it into the keyhole. The key slid in the lock and Sky turned it. Sky heard the door unlock and he took out the key.
He turned the knob and peeked into the room. The room turned out to be more halls, one leading straight another leading to his right. The right hall had a few paintings on the walls as well as another door at the end. The hall in front of him had a single column in the middle with a few words scribbled on it.
Sky didn't need to decide where to go this time, referring back when he nearly died because of them. He slowly left the doorpost ,leaving the key in the lock ,and went down the right hall. The hall had paintings of bugs only on one side of the hall, the other had nothing to show.
There were a few bugs painted and even the life of a butterfly. The hall wasn't that long before Sky reached the door. Sky turned the knob and he pushed the door open.
Well, this place can't get any weirder can it?
The room was small but it had a chasm in the middle of it. There was a painting over the chasm that looked to be a bridge, but Sky was doubting it. He walked over to the painting and inspected it.
The frame was black with no designs on it. The canvas contained a black ant. The painting itself was pretty long since it could reach the other side of the chasm. Sky looked up to the other side and saw another door.
Well, what else should I do?
Sky didn't want to check out the writing so soon, so he just accepted what he was going to do now. He set his foot down on the canvas and it stretched down on his weight, but it wasn't ripping. Sky then put the rest of his weight on the canvas, it was able to hold him. He stepped forward and it still supported him. He took another step and he was in the middle of the chasm.
Sky could feel a slight breeze coming up the chasm and he quickly made it to the other side. The painting stayed in place as he walked over to the door. Sky opened the door and saw another small room. This room had a headless statue like the one in the exhibit.
What, how did it get here?
Sky thought little of it ,but was still confused. He looked down on the floor in front of it and saw another key. Sky walked over to it and kneeled down to pick it up. When he got back up he heard a heavy thump in front of him.
Sky looked up and saw the statue was a step closer to him. Sky got back on his feet and he stepped back. The statue stepped closer and Sky stepped back. Before Sky could even break for the door the statue instantly started to walk towards him.
"Holy sh*t." Sky yelled as he ran back to the door.
The statue kept following Sky as he ran across the painting. Sky heard the painting rip as he tripped and fell to the other side. He scrambled to his feet as the statue started to step on the painting.
Sky got up and ran for the door as the statue placed its entire weight on the painting. Sky got out of the room as the painting ripped and the statue fell down the chasm.
Crash
Sky heard the statue break at the bottom of the chasm, and was filled with relief.
"What the f*ck?" Sky panted.
The key was beside his rose and Sky thought it was not worth it for the key. He took a breather and went back to the column. Sky thought of what happened back there, a statue coming to life is fantasy but it still happened. He knew he was in a whole new world. He now stood in front of the column which had words on it.
BEWARE OF EDGES
Sky read them again, seeing if there was a hidden message in them. Nothing. Sky thought it was a joke and just walked to the side of the column to continue on.
He stayed near the wall as he kept walking down the empty hall. Sky kept walking ,checking on the rose as he did so. As he looked back up to see where he was going ,a black hand emerged from the wall ,grabbing Sky's rose.
It managed to grab a few petals as Sky jumped back from fear and pain. When the arm ripped off a few petals of his rose ,Sky felt pain suddenly course throughout his body.
The petals fluttered down to the ground as the arm reached out to Sky. Sky clenched his teeth as he saw the cuts on his arms and chest, which were bleeding. He seethed and looked at his rose which had fewer petals now.
"Ahh sh*t."
Sky looked at the hand, which was still reaching for him ,but he was out of reach. Sky now knew what the message meant now. His wounds were still bleeding as he walked down the middle of the hall.
The blood was starting to seep into his clothes and clot when he reached the end of the hall. The hall turned to the right as Sky reached the end. There was another door at the end and Sky had no other choice but to explore.
Just when he was going to turn the corner two more hands emerged on either side of him making him step back in surprise and fear. Sky covered his rose from the hands and went past them ,avoiding the black fingers.
The door was not inviting since it was the color of blood, just like the walls, but Sky went on anyway. He grasped the doorknob and turned it pushing the door and revealing the next room.
