Chasing Qadr
Salaam everyone! So I know that this isn't in typical Skript fashion, but what AeroKitKat wanted for her birthday Skript, was a part from Chasing Qadr as she never got to read it and I took it down since I couldn't handle it with Unlocked Hearts anymore, and I was really really REALLY tired of people giving me a hard time about it. So I am going right to the awesome part, and posting where Sarah and Mustafa meet for the first time !!!!! And as an added bonus because she is awesome, I will also include the chapter after it. So she is getting two long chapters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3
Happy Birthday AeroKitKat!!!!!!!!!
Mustafa sat in his math class, staring absently at the front of the room, barely listening to what the teacher was saying. He had worked the night shift the night before at the coffeehouse, and then had been up until Fajr studying for his history test. He had gotten maybe an hour of sleep, and to make matters worse, after school he had another two hour shift, before having to go to the Masjid for an event planning meeting.
They were trying to put on a youth conference, and needed to meet to come up with a team. Yusra, Khadija's younger sister was the sister in charge, and they also needed a brother to handle things from the other end. Mustafa had a sinking feeling he would be the one put in charge, and that's all he needed. More work.
Another downside? He promised Amir he would pick him up from wrestling practice, and what he hadn't told his brother is that he wouldn't have time to take Amir home before the meeting, and would have to take him to the Masjid with him.
Amir was going to be pissed.
The rest of the school day passed surprisingly fast, and so did his work shift, so by the time he pulled up in front of Amir's school, stopping in front of where his brother was standing, he was in a semi good mood.
***
"You are just such a jerk!" Amir seethed, crossing his arms over his chest in anger.
Well there went that good mood.
"Look I'm sorry, I didn't have time to take you home before the meeting."
"Well you should have told me! I would have walked home instead!" he exclaimed, and Mustafa rolled his eyes.
"Look if you behave I'll by you ice cream!" he said a bit mockingly, and his brother glowered at him.
"You're a jerk Mustafa."
"So you've told me. Just please don't be rude! Yusra is new to leading events and I don't want you to discourage her!"
Amir regarded the young lady who was standing near the head of the table, and frowned slightly.
""You guys are entrusting a huge youth conference to her? She looks like she's a child."
"No she's in high school."
"Seriously? What grade?"
"She's a freshman."
Amir's eyebrow raised.
"That's still pretty little to be leading such a big thing."
"She won't be alone, she has all of us helping her. Plus, you don't know Yusra. The girl is so dedicated MashaAllah, and has a determination like I've never seen. She teaches an Islamic Studies class here too."
"But she's so young!" Amir exclaimed, and while his face still held a scowl, Mustafa could hear that he was impressed.
"Age and maturity don't necessarily go hand in hand. I know some people who are say sixteen years old, but have the maturity level of a five year old."
Amir rolled his eyes, and but didn't say anything, and as Yusra sat down in her seat, the all turned their attention to her.
"AsalamuAlaikum everyone! Thank you so much for coming today! Alhamdulillah we have an amazing project ahead of us, and I am honored to have all of you here on my team! Now as a lot of you will probably remember the conference from last year, it is going to take a lot of effort on the part of every single one of us. So if you feel like you can't give a hundred percent, then I am giving you leave to go now." She smiled. "No hard feelings."
Mustafa had to practically restrain his brother from dashing out of the room.
When no one else said anything else, Yusra opened up her notebook.
"Now, Alhamdulillah Khadija has appointed me as the sister in charge, which means we need a brother as well. Someone who can be my partner. Anyone?"
She said this with a glance at Mustafa and he quickly looked back down at the table. He didn't want to be rude, but he couldn't take on the conference. He would help it in whatever way he could, but he couldn't take the lead. He was already swamped.
Yusra waited another few beats of silence, looking at the brothers who were all trying to avoid her gaze.
"Anyone?" she asked again, and suddenly Mustafa was struck with an idea. He looked at Amir, who had his phone under the table and was playing a game, and at Yusra. Back at Amir, and back at Yusra.
Back at Amir...
And back at Yusra...
"No one is going to volunteer?" Yusra asked with a slight frown, and there was another beat of silence.
Back at Amir...
And back to Yusra...
"Amir will do it!" Mustafa blurted out, and as all eyes turned towards Amir, whose eyes were bugged out and he looked like he was going to faint, Yusra smiled.
"Really!?" she exclaimed and Amir's mouth opened, then closed, then opened and closed, making him look slightly like a fish. "Can you really do it Brother Amir!? That would be wonderful!"
"Uh....I mean I don't really....I just...." He stammered, and whether she was enjoying his discomfort, or she just really was desperate for someone to help her, she hurriedly wrote down on her notebook before smiling brightly.
"Well then it's settled! Brother Amir will be co heading it with me! Now if we could have someone volunteer for food?"
As they continued on with the meeting, Mustafa stared straight ahead, trying to avoid looking at his brother.
If looks could kill...
***
"I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU DID THIS TO ME!"
"Amir,"
"OF ALL OF THE ROTTEN NO GOOD THINGS TO DO YOU DID THIS!?"
"Amir,"
"I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO COME TO THIS THING, AND THEN YOU PUT ME ON SPOT LIKE THAT!?" Amir angrily hit the window. "YOU ARE SUCH A JERK!"
"Come on Amir don't you think you are overreacting just a little bit!?"
"Overreacting?! OVERREACTING?! You just RUINED my life!"
"Volunteering at the Masjid is ruining your life?! Come on bro, you need to get over yourself!"
Amir shook his head.
"You had no right to volunteer me like that. I can't even tell you how pissed off I am at you!" Amir folded his hands over his chest, and looked out the window, a deep scowl on his face.
"Then why didn't you just say no?" Mustafa asked, and Amir turned to him in disbelief.
"What?! Are you serious!? She didn't even give me a chance to talk, let alone say no!"
"Are you sure it just wasn't her?" Mustafa asked teasingly, and Amir rolled his eyes.
"Please Mustafa. She's a kid."
"So are you."
"Don't change the subject. I'm still so mad at you."
"Look it won't be too bad. This isn't her first time leading an event, and both of you will have a team working under you. It's not like everything is on your head. Eventually you might have fun with it!"
Amir snorted.
"Whatever."
"No seriously! I remember the first time I led an event! Sure it's a lot of work and you have to be dedicated, but in the end of the day, when the event is a success InshaAllah there is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment and knowing that you made a difference."
Amir said nothing, staring out the window.
"Just renew your intentions Amir. Make sure you are doing it for the sake of Allah swt, and InshaAllah only good will come of it."

Sarah stared at her biology textbook, her eyes practically glazed over. She had been sitting at her desk for almost two hours now studying for her finals, and so far had read the same paragraph almost a hundred times. If the test covered anything beyond 'welcome to the intriguing world of biology' she was going to fail.
Usually she had no problem studying. She was an A+ student, had a perfect GPA, always did extra credit, and was always on time with her schoolwork. But today, for some reason she just couldn't focus!
Perhaps it was the beautiful day that was calling to her to go out and do something instead of being stuck indoors.
Perhaps it was because she would be hearing back from the internship within the next few days about if she got the research assistant position, and she was too nervous to focus.
Or perhaps it was the fact that in only three months she would be graduating from high school. She had never believed that seniorities was a real thing until right now. Now she realized it was very, very real, and slightly dangerous to anyone who was trying to finish off the year with their A+ streak.
Whatever the case may be, and she was inclined to believe the last reason, she had to get out of the house for a little bit, and after shooting texts to Nadine, and Halimah, she hurriedly put on an Abaya and scarf, told her mom she would be back in a few hours, and got in her car, driving down the block to the Masjid to meet her friends. As she lived the closest, she got there first, so she waited in the playground on the jungle gym, playing Tetris on her phone until her friends arrived.
"So where are we going?" Nadine asked after they had done their routine hugs and squeals. Though the girls saw each other as often as possible, Nadine and Halimah went to Meadow Wood High together, while Sarah went to East Wood Charter, a private charter school, so whenever the three of them actually did get together, it was a real treat.
"I don't know but we can't stay out long though, I have finals to study for." Sarah said making a face, and Nadine nodded.
"Me too. I haven't even touched my calculus book."
"What if we go to that little café down the street? We could get some drinks and snacks or whatever and just hang out at the park for like an hour." Halimah suggested.
Sarah frowned slightly.
"What café?"
"You know the one between Target and Pet Smart? The Coffee Cup?"
Sarah's eyes lit up in recognition.
"The one that has those cute retro couches!?"
"That's the one!" Halimah exclaimed, and Sarah hopped up in excitement.
"I haven't been there in like a year! Let's go!"
The three girls piled into Sarah's car, and a few minutes later, arrived at the little coffeehouse, tumbling excitedly into the doorway.
They stared at the menu for a few minutes, debating quite loudly over what to choose, and laughing and giggling.
"Hey I'm going to go to the bathroom. Just go ahead and order." Sarah said once her friends had decided what they wanted, and as she disappeared towards the bathrooms, Halimah and Nadine linked arms. As they approached the counter, the cashier, whose name tag read 'Steven', looked up with a smile.
"Good afternoon. How can I help you ladies?"
Once they had placed their orders, a latte and blueberry muffin for Nadine, and a butterscotch frappe and cinnamon bun for Halimah, they took a seat near the window, chatting, and waiting for Sarah to come out.
***
"Hey Mustafa, two girls just ordered and I wonder if you know them."
Mustafa looked up from where he was secretly reading the newest Harry Potter book under the counter while trying to hide from James.
"Why do you assume I know them?"
"One of them is wearing one of those head thingies."
"I don't know every single girl who wears a scarf!" Mustafa mumbled, but he put a bookmark in between the pages, and peered over the top of the counter, and ducked back down as he saw Halimah and Nadine.
"Okay you may not know every single one, but I'm guessing you know them?" Steven asked in amusement, and Mustafa nodded.
"Yeah they go to my school."
"You don't like them?"
"The one without the scarf sits behind me in history and is always talking nonstop."
"To you or in general?"
"To everyone. I think she just enjoys the sound of her own voice."
"So am I correct in assuming you don't want to take them their orders?"
"Oh God no!" Mustafa exclaimed in horror, and Steven laughed, bustling around, and a few minutes later placing their things on a tray and walking around the corner towards where they sat. Mustafa opened his book again, intent on finding out why Harry was supposed to be terrified of this Sirius Black guy, when he heard someone approach the counter, and as Steven was delivering an order, he gave a slight groan, closed the book again, and stood up.
"How can I help you?" he asked, fiddling to put his apron back on. James was a stickler for the uniform, and Mustafa had been cited so many times for not wearing his while serving a customer, that he couldn't afford any more strikes.
"Yes, can I get a plain bagel and a lemonade with extra ice?"
He tapped on the cash register.
"That will be three ninety six." He said, and as he glanced up, stretching out his hand to take the money from her, all of his breath left his body, and he just stood there utterly and completely dumbstruck.
She didn't notice that he was staring, she was too busy rooting around in her purse for her wallet, and by the time she had come up with a five dollar bill, he had composed his facial features enough to appear as if he wasn't trembling from head to toe, and that his insides hadn't turned into mush.
He attempted to hand her her change, dropping it all over the counter in the process, and as she reached for it at the same time as he did, their fingers almost brushed, and he actually felt his knees go weak.
"Thanks." She said dropping a dollar into the tip jar, and as she walked towards where her friends where sitting, he followed her with his gaze, his heart beating so painfully that he was surprised it hadn't burst out of his chest.
She was gorgeous.
Pale white skin.
Eyes of emerald green.
Cheekbones that a model would be jealous of.
And when she had smiled...
Ya Allah.
He needed to get closer to her. He had to figure out what her name was. Who she was.
If she was doing anything for the rest of her life and wanted to, you know, get married.
He grabbed a rag under the pretense of cleaning the table next to where she sat with her friends, but to his annoyance, a customer approached, and by the time he was done taking his order, the angel and her friends had already left.
***
"Did you see how Mustafa Malik was staring at you!?" Nadine asked as they exited the coffee shop, and Sarah took a sip of her lemonade before looking at her friend quizzically.
"Who?"
"Mustafa Malik! The guy who took your order!" Halimah chimed in, and Sarah shook her head.
"I didn't recognize him. Was I supposed to?"
"Well he goes with us to Meadow Wood High. He's a senior and just so perfect!" Nadine swooned, and Sarah shook her head in amusement.
"How come I've never heard you guys talk about him before?"
"Like we have a chance!" Nadine scoffed.
"He's like the most popular guy at school. Every girl wants him. Including Nadine!" Halimah teased, and Nadine scowled, shoving her friend.
"Shut up Halimah. Like you haven't stared at him in history class!"
"You're the one who sits behind him!"
Nadine turned to look at Sarah.
"It's not like I don't try to lower my gaze, but he sits right in front of me!"
Sarah shrugged.
"Why don't you just change seats if he's such a distraction?"
"If I moved so late in the year, it might throw off the whole dynamic of the class!" Nadine exclaimed, horrified.
Sarah laughed, and tore a piece of her bagel off, popping it into her mouth.
"What's so special about him?"
"He's on the basketball and debate teams, he is funny and gorgeous, president of the MSA, and is just," she paused to make a swooning noise, "absolutely perfect. Didn't you notice how handsome he was!?"
Sarah shook her head.
"I didn't really pay attention to what he looked like honestly. Does he go to ICSB?" she asked referring to the Masjid, and Halimah nodded.
"Yeah he helps out with the youth groups. How do you not know who he is?!"
Sarah shrugged.
"I haven't been able to make it to any youth group meetings in a long time. Plus, I don't make it a habit of hanging around the opposite gender."
"Well neither do we! But he is like known for his work at the Mosque!"
"Does he have any siblings? Maybe I know them?"
"He has an older brother Rashid and a younger brother Amir? Maybe that rings a bell?" Nadine asked, and when Sarah shook her head, she sighed in annoyance. "Rashid is engaged to Eman Salem?"
"I know Eman, and I heard she was engaged but I honestly have no idea who you are talking about." She took another sip from her cup. "Why does it matter anyways?"
"Because his eyes practically fell out of his head when you stepped up to the counter!" Halimah exclaimed.
Sarah rolled her eyes.
"He so did no!"
"He so did! You didn't notice that he dropped your change!?" Nadine asked, and Sarah shrugged.
"Well yeah, but maybe he is just clumsy!"
Nadine and Halimah exchanged a glance.
"Yeah. Okay Sarah. He is so in love with you!"
Sarah rolled her eyes.
"He saw me for all of five minutes and said two words to me. No way is he in love with me."
***
"I am in love! I have found the woman of my dreams!"
Rashid looked up from his book at his brother's announcement, and gave an amused smile.
"Pardon me?"'
"Oh my God Rashid." Mustafa exclaimed throwing himself across Rashid's bed. "This vision of heavenly beauty entered the coffeehouse and ordered a plain bagel and lemonade, and I was a goner."
Rashid laughed, and spun around from his desk.
"Because she ordered a plain bagel and a lemonade?"
Mustafa made a face.
"Haha very funny. I'm telling you bro, this is the girl I am going to marry."
"What's her name?"
Mustafa shrugged.
"I don't know."
"Who is she?"
"I don't know."
"Where does she go to school?"
"I don't know."
Rashid frowned.
"Did you talk to her at all?!"
Mustafa scowled.
"Of course!"
"Well what did you say?"
"I said, 'that will be three ninety six.'"
Rashid laughed, and propped his feet up on his desk.
"So let me get this straight. You don't know who she is or where to find her, you said one sentence to her, yet you claim she is the love of your life?"
Mustafa nodded.
"Exactly."
"Seems pretty farfetched to me."
Mustafa shook his head.
"I'm telling you Rashid. I am going to marry this girl!"
Before Rashid could answer, Amir came into the room.
"Guess who just got his license?!"
"Hey!" Mustafa exclaimed with a smile.
"Mabrook little bro!" Rashid added, and Amir beamed.
"Thank you. I was pretty worried I wouldn't do well."
"Is that why it took you so long to even do it?" Mustafa asked, and Amir shrugged.
"More of just laziness."
"Wow Amir." Rashid said with a laugh, and his little brother grinned.
"Can I use your car tonight Mustafa?"
"What for!?"
"Because Yusra has arranged for a meeting for the committee for the conference, and I have to go. No thanks to," he paused to push Mustafa off the bed, "you!"
"Hey!" Mustafa exclaimed from where he was laying on the ground. "Rashid, he pushed me!"
Rashid laughed.
"You can use my car Amir."
"Thanks."
"Do you think you're going to stick with this project then?" Mustafa asked, getting back up, and nudging Amir over until they were both sitting on Rashid's bed.
"I think so. InshaAllah."
"So Amir, guess what?" Rashid asked, a mischievous grin on his face.
"What?"
"Mustafa's in love!" Rashid crowed, and Amir turned to look at Mustafa, a teasing look on his face.
"What!? Are you serious?! With who?!"
"With some random girl who ordered a plain bagel and lemonade at the coffeehouse. He has no clue who she is, or where to find her, but he is positive that she is for him."
Amir laughed, and crossed his legs underneath him.
"Did she pay with a credit card?"
Mustafa shook his head.
"No. Why?"
Amir shrugged.
"If she had, you could have found out her name from there."
"Ooh sneaky!" Rashid exclaimed and while they both laughed, Mustafa scowled at them.
"You know, I am really hurting about this, and you guys are laughing! What if I never see her again?! She's my soul mate!"
"Mustafa! You were around her all of five minutes! How do you know she is your soul mate!?"
"I felt it in here." He said, putting a hand over his heart, and Amir snorted.
"Wow look who is all mushy!"
"Shut up Amir!" Mustafa scowled. "You guys, what do I do!?"
"Maybe she will come back in again! Have a pitcher of lemonade ready!" Rashid teased and Mustafa scowled.
"Stop it you guys!"
"Seriously, she might come back in!" Amir said with a laugh.
"I've been working at that place for year and this is the first time I've ever seen her!"
"She doesn't go to your school?" Amir asked, and Mustafa shook his head.
"She was with two girls who do, but I've never seen her around. Believe me I would have remembered her.
"Maybe she goes to the Masjid!" Rashid said thoughtfully. "We could ask around!"
"But I don't know anything about her!"
"You know what she looks like." Amir pointed out, and Mustafa scoffed.
"Yeah okay let's just spread the news that Mustafa Malik is looking for a tall girl who has pale white skin that would rival that of the moonlight, eyes that are like the most striking of emeralds, and a face," he sighed slightly, "a face that is so beautiful, in all honesty she should be wearing Niqab."
"Man you really have it bad don't you!?" Rashid exclaimed, and Mustafa groaned.
"I love her!"
"You don't even know her name!" Amir said with a chuckle.
"The heart wants what it wants!" Mustafa exclaimed dramatically, and Rashid rubbed a hand over his beard thoughtfully.
"You said that her two friends go to your school?"
"Yes."
"Well then ask them about her!"
"That's a great idea!" Amir exclaimed, and Mustafa stared at his brothers in horror.
"You expect me to go up to two of the most annoying girls in my school and let them know I like their friend!?"
Rashid shrugged.
"It's the only way for you to find out who she is!"
"No! I can't do that!"
"As one of your friends to do it. Don't your Halaqah brothers go to your school?" Amir asked, and Mustafa nodded.
"Yeah. But then I'd have to let them know I'm interested in someone, and I'm not sure I'm ready for that."
"Well as far as I can tell, you either just wait until she comes back or ask her friends. Other than that you just suffer in silence." Rashid said in a matter of fact voice, and Mustafa rolled his eyes.
"Gee thanks brothers. You've been so helpful." He stood up from the bed.
"Where are you going?" Amir asked.
"To attempt to do my homework. Good luck with the meeting tonight Amir."
For the next half hour, Mustafa stared at his books, not seeing a single thing but that mysterious girl's face. He couldn't get her out of his mind, and soon he was pacing back and forth across his room, debating the options his brothers had given him. Eventually he decided to resort to the last possible thing.
Facebook.
He quickly signed into his account, and typed in Halimah's name, though he knew it would be useless as she didn't post pictures. After a quick glance through her albums which consisted mainly of inspirational quotes and kittens, he typed in Nadine's name. He wasn't friends with Nadine, but as her account popped up he felt his heart start to race. Her profile picture was a picture of her and the girl! But darn it! Her privacy settings were set so tightly that he couldn't even click on her profile picture!
Ugh.
You would think a girl who had no problem blabbing nonstop to the world would be a little bit more lenient on her profile settings...
He stared at the picture for another few minutes, marveling at how beautiful she was. She stared back at him, her perfect smile entrancing him to the point that he was barely aware of what was going on around him. Eventually he decided to go down and help his mother with dinner to get his mind off of things.
As he began to walk down the hallway, her image swirled in his mind and he just wished he knew who she was. So he could hear her voice again.
See her smile.
Know her name.
Hear his name on her lips...
"Ya Allah! Mustafa habibi!"
Mustafa groaned in surprise as he looked up at his mom from where he had fallen down the stairs, and as he attempted to get up, he let out a wince of pain as he moved his arm, and it flopped uselessly back to his side.
"Ya Latif!" his mom shrieked.
"What's going on!?" Baba asked rushing into the room, and as he spotted Mustafa on the ground, he crouched next to him, looking at his arm, before looking up grimly.
"It's broken."
