The very first constellations were drawn by the Space God of Old.

He loved to draw, to create elaborate sketches with only charcoal and a canvas.

So naturally, when he discovered what the people had to look up to every night, a dark night sky with stars that were scattered about like children's toys, he knew something had to be done.  The stars were his responsibility after all, he could absolutely not have them looking sloppy.

The constellations he formed were vague shapes of the fourteen Elements, or specifically the symbols that represent them.  The God of Space would have been more detailed if not for the fact that moving certain stars closer together could cause them to explode.  Still, he and the rest of the Gods of Old were satisfied with what he produced, given that having the responsibility of caring for the universe usually does not tend to leave one with much time.

However, ever since the Magic Burst and the birth of the faeries, things have changed.  The first generations of Nebula faeries noticed that the Space God of Old only created fourteen constellations.  Only fourteen, which was an incredibly low number according to those Nebula faeries.  They wanted their night sky to be filled with colour and light, just like it was during the day, and saw to it that they would make it so.

Countless faeries painted their own constellations in the sky, moving stars, galaxies, and even nebulas together to form their creations.  The Space Minister oversaw this massive project, and being both a skilled artist and a strict perfectionist he ensured that every single thing the Nebula faeries did only benefited their nighttime view.  

The project was completed on the darkest, clearest night of the year, a night when the moon and its blinding light were absent.  The other Colonies of faeries were anxious to see the finished project, having heard about it months before and seeing the progress when the Aether faeries took away the clouds.  

Faeries from all twelve Colonies came together at the Gathering Place to see what the Nebula faeries had accomplished, and when the Space Minister revealed the stars for the first time, all beings, both faerie and human, were in awe.  Beautiful shapes, streaks of colour... the tiniest speckles of stars could be seen.  It was a wonderful night, followed by a big celebration.

In future generations, Nebula faeries began to add less and less to the night sky, only adding constellations that were deemed "important" for history to remember.  However, on the darkest, clearest night of the year, every single Nebula faerie spends the night gazing at the stars, laughing, and spending time under the starshine with friends.  Although not every single faerie joins in, the celebration of the Constellation Gala is always open for any faerie to attend, and it is always celebrated right at the Nebula Colony... the place in Piliphala where the world beyond can be viewed the clearest.

The Constellation Gala is a time for faeries to look up at the sky and admire the artwork created by many generations of Nebula faeries, for faeries to look up at the sky and see their past shining down on them.

Of course, it is an excuse for the Nebula faeries to boast about their work, and for the Space Minister, he can admire how he helped hundreds of faeries expand upon what was created in his past.
