Part 4
Things had been going great since I ran away from home. Renea had been a great help when we got to her new town. It was four states away from my home town.
Anyway, things have been a bit rough. Renea and I went through a big fight. We didn't talk to each other for over a week. I don't even remember what the fight was about but we made up. Since then things have been easier.
It was a normal day in the park, my playing has gotten better than when I started. I was playing like usually someone went up to me and asked, "Hey, kid. Who you work for?"
I stopped playing and looked to this middle aged man. "No one, sir. I just do this for fun."
He nodded. "Well, if you ever want to become famous or something, give me a call." He handed me a card that said his name, business name, and phone number.
"Thank you." He left after that.
"Who was that and what should I do to him?" I turned around and saw Renea.
"Just some man asking about my playing. It was nothing." I tried to put her worries to rest.
"Okay, okay." She put her hands up. "What do you want to do?"
"I don't care but let's get out of here."
"Agree." We left.
The street didn't have many people on them at this hour but we still stayed out of the way. We have been hearing rumors about a runaway and we both knew that was me. We ended at some cafe at the edge of town.
"How your drink?" I asked as we sat down.
"Okay, I could be a bit warmer. Yours?"
I took a sip. "It's okay. I don't know much about coffee."
"I'll be right back." She left her drink on our table and head to the bathroom. I sat by myself. I felt like I was being stared at even though there was no one in the cafe. I thought about my life.
Just a few months ago I was at home with my family and now I was far away. I played guitar to get by and everything just seemed to be falling into place. It was nice to feel like nothing could go wrong.
"Okay, that's better." Renea returned to her seat. "So what are your plans?"
I laughed, I was just thinking about my life. "Well, right now I' just going to stay here but maybe in a few months I might move on."
"That would be nice. Maybe I could go with you?" She asked.
"I don't care but you have a nice life, so you should stay. But I won't force you to do anything." She nodded.
"Want to head back to my place and eat?"
"Yeah, why not."
We walked out of the cafe with our drinks still in hand. We walked down the street as the sky becomes dark. The weather was nice, not too cold not too hot.
"Things are good," I say out loud without knowing.
"What was that?" Renea asked.
"Oh, nothing. Things just seemed too good to be true."
"Don't think that way. Everything is going to be fine." She grabbed my hand as we continued to walk.
Only if she knew what was going to happen.
