Chapter Seven
"I may have made a mistake..." Headmaster Raphael spoke into the portal at his old friend, and God of Miracles, Gelios. He paced in his office. "It seems as though Caroline and her friends have acquired enough of their abilities to overpower Katia and Zeserth in the Abandoned Catacombs." Gelios hummed in thought. "No one has yet known as to why she disappeared from Wixsity Institute...and in a time of peril, no less!"
Headmaster Raphael balled his hands into fists. "Katia abandoned us because I would not allow the use of Dark magic on the grounds, then she forged Zeserth and used his magic to subdue us, causing us to lose everything." He clenched his teeth. "We had to start over...all because of one witch that went Dark!" He sighed, massaging his forehead. "I was wrong to try and damage Caroline's abilities. She still has an incredibly arduous task ahead of her. I just hope it won't be too much for Emmanuel and Dee, as well."
Gelios sighed, as he knew Raphael was getting in over his head as usual. "Raphael. Caroline and her friends were chosen for this destiny. It is upon her to commit herself to her future. Be as it may, it shall most definitely be interminable, but you must not forget that Caroline possesses fortitude, and she is dauntless."
Headmaster Raphael!!! I yelled out, not even bothering to knock the door as I stormed into his office. The headmaster quickly sent the portal away, giving me his full attention, looking calm and collected. I slammed my hands on the desk. "Caroline, what can I do for you?" I bared my teeth, feeling a small chip in a molar, but I didn't care. I was seeing red. "Why...how could you not tell us that was Dee's mother?!"
"Caroline, I..."
I shook my head, on the verge of tears. "Why did you send us all to that awful place?! Do you realize how dangerous that was?! We could have been killed!!"
The headmaster sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Caroline, it was all a test to see how well you all could work together to prevail against danger." He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "And I must say, Charity helped you a great deal by using her mystical energies to enhance yours. The thing I didn't realize was that she would also be involved as well...You should really thank her."
"I realize that! But how could you to that to us?! And Dee especially! I mean come on, to be kidnapped by your own mother?! Not to mention the fact that he says she has been dead for years!!" I glared at him, sitting down and trying to calm myself.
Headmaster Raphael twiddled his thumbs. I slumped in the seat. "What am I supposed to think now? I left Dee there alone...he asked me to...but...I-I just...what if something bad happened to him...??"
The headmaster sighed. "Caroline, it had to be done. And don't worry. Dee will be just fine. He's strong, courageous, and... mysterious. If he attacks Katia, she won't know what's going on until it's too late." He chuckled. "We especially sent Dee to the Abandoned Catacombs because, even though it is a family matter, Katia did terrible things to us in the past and we thought, why not use Katia's own son against her?"
I sat up straight and looked him dead in the eye. "So...you're saying, you did this on purpose? You want Dee to kill Katia?" He nodded. "The purpose of sending you, Emmanuel, and also, oddly enough, Charity, was for moral support, and something else as well. But we will talk about that another day. Right now, you must get some rest. Also, there is someone special waiting for you in your room." He chuckled as I raised an eyebrow. "Okay...goodnight."
I chewed on my lip as I walked to my dorm room, and changed my clothes. All I really wanted to do was get comfy in bed and get some rest, but as I laid down on my pillow, I felt a fluffy tail brush my nose. What is that?
Using magic, I lit the torch above the bed and found a wolf staring at me. I gaped at the beautiful grey and white animal, reaching out to pet her. She leaned into my hand, growling friendly at me. She's so beautiful... The wolf turned around, picked something up from the small brown armoire dresser and handed me a note, her brown eyes sparkling. I looked at her, then sent the flame to the sconce next to it, and opened it. It was from Headmaster Raphael.
Caroline, I have sent you a companion to help guide you on your magical journey. She will help guide you on the way to becoming a full-fledged mage. Think of a good name for her. I know you two will become great friends. ~Headmaster Raphael~
Curiosity waved my sleep away momentarily as I tried to think of a good name for the wolf. Hmm... I've never had a pet before... I covered my mouth with my hand as I yawned. I like the name Annabelle for her. She thumped her tail happily and licked my face, and I laughed, then my eyes widened. "Wait...you heard my thoughts?" Annabelle nodded, grinning with her tongue out of her mouth.
I smiled at her and gave her a hug. "I love you, Annabelle. Goodnight." Yawning again, Annabelle curled up on my bed and we both happily fell sound asleep.
