You had been Catherine's lady's maid for many years, having soon fallen for one another due to the proximity the two of you had been in. You knew how dangerous it was for two women to be in a relationship so kept it a secret, something that was easy to do due to being with each other nearly every second of everyday. You knew realistically it wasn't going to ever change enough for you to be together in a public sense, and you were also very aware that soon enough she would be expected to marry; you didn't know how soon that would happen though.

When her last fiancé passed away, you thought that the two of you would have more time before she was betrothed to another, but time wasn't fair to you. Catherine had been called away to speak with someone whilst you did your chores in her chambers, returning with a sorrow filled expression.

"What is wrong, Milady?" You asked, rushing over to her, taking her hands within yours. "You look as though you have seen a ghost."

"I am once again betrothed," she whispered.

Your mood and expression dropped instantly. You had hoped it would take some time for her to find a new husband, maybe even returning her to Spain before she would be wed to another nobleman as a different alliance, but clearly her family saw the connection to England as too important to risk being destroyed with the death of the crown prince.

"I will be wed to Henry instead. They speak as though nothing is different to the original arrangement, even though I am to wed the brother of my deceased betrothed," Catherine sighed.

Although you worried about what this meant for you, you had to focus on Catherine and how this new engagement was going to change her life forever, without her able to have a say in anything to do with the matter. You leaned towards her and wrapped her within your arms in a tight embrace.

"It is going to be okay," you said with a false smile. "I'm sure things will be the same as what was initially planned. However, I will be here for you as long as you need me."

She offered you a genuine smile. "Thank you, Y/N. I do not know how I would be able to do this without you."

Silently you continued to hold her. You didn't know it was going to be okay, you actually didn't believe it would, but you needed to keep a brave face for Catherine's sake, you'd do anything for Catherine.
