Summary: Mary I of England thoughts about her, Boleyn and Katherine.
—❤️🔥—
The first time Mary sees her, she hates her.
Her mother was sent to a convent because of her.
Her hair made of storm clouds is very long, long enough to sit on.
Her eyes dark as night, but bright as the moon are calculating.
Her skin is like a leaf in late summer.
Boleyn is a storm in summer.
Unwanted and electrifying.
Mary likes burning.
But she doesn't like Boleyn.
If Mary is fire, Boleyn is a summer storm.
Only there's no calm before a storm with Boleyn.
It sweeps away everything weak, only the strong remain standing.
Mary is weak.
(Her mother was too.)
Boleyn is a storm.
Storms are dangerous.
But so is fire.
So when they argue and Boleyn turns into a lightning storm, Mary turns into a blazing fire.
She fights lightning with fire.
Fire with fire.
(Because she wants to burn and be reduced to ashes.)
Mary hates storms.
Mary hates Boleyn.
Mary loves fire.
(But she doesn't love herself.)
The first time Mary sees her, she hates her.
Everything about her is beautiful.
Her long, silky hair is the color of leaves in autumn.
Eyes like a cat's: big and hypnotic.
They were like honey and sun merging: entrancing, but if you look too long you'll burn.
Mary likes burning.
But she doesn't like Katherine.
If Mary is fire, Katherine is an autumn breeze.
She fans the fire, spreading her sparks around every corner, burning everyone but her in the process.
(That's a lie, Katherine burns the most.)
Katherine is what Mary is not.
Mary hates her.
When the breeze announces her presence, people want more.
When the fire announces its presence, people run.
The breeze helps cool your lungs, and though it sometimes makes you sick, it's not really dangerous.
The fire stops you from breathing, it curls up in your lungs and stays there, it makes your body burn inside and out.
The breeze flows.
The fire razes.
(So do storms.)
Katherine is breeze.
(Not wind, because wind is dangerous, like fire and storms, and Katherine is not, she is gentle.)
Mary is fire.
(Fire reduces everything to ashes, fire is unforgiving.)
Mary hates Katherine
(Mary also hates herself.)
Mary loves fire.
(Mary also loves the autumn breezes.)
