Part Thirteen Inej

(Just fixed a couple typos while rereading the chapter, if you have already read the chapter then pay no mind.)
Kaz's body was laying on the floor covered in blood and because Kaz was "dead" Nina was able to keep his body from rotting. They all knew it wouldn't be sustainable for long. Ilya got on his horse and rode away to find a local Healer that they knew. Tears began to fall from Inej's eyes. She quickly wiped them away and took a deep breath. Everything would be fine. Esfir tapped Inej on the shoulder.

"We need to move his body," she told Inej. "The kids will start to notice that something is wrong." Inej stood up and took another deep breath.

"Nina can you help me?" Inej asked. Nina's wide eyes looked to her. She nodded and got up. Inej looked to Jesper and Wylan and saw the nervous looks in their faces. They were all thinking the same thing. Would this really work? Would this be a mistake? Did she just actually kill Kaz? Kaz was in a comatose state and could be brought back, but Nina's hope of Matthias well... that was another story. Nina and Inej lifted Kaz's body and they followed Esfir to a room upstairs.

"This is Ilya's and my room. No one will come in here," She said. Nina's face crinkled.

"Why didn't we come here in the first place?" Nina asked.

"You all surprised us. This was a very quick decision. Put him on the bed. We can just throw out the sheets." Nina and Inej moved Kaz to the bed. "Go get Matthias," Esfir ordered. Nina moved away to go get him. Inej couldn't believe this was currently happening. This couldn't be real. They heard the door open downstairs and Esfir and Inej rushed down and saw Ilya with someone new. The Healer they were talking about. She was an older Zemeni woman.

"Where is the body?" She asked quietly. Esfir walked over to her and whispered in her ear. They rushed upstairs

It had been 18 hours since Inej "killed" Kaz. Many times she asked Ilya if it was working. He nodded every time. Kaz and Matthias' bodies were lying on the bed and Nina and the Healer were attending to the bodies. Inej stepped out and sighed. This was absolutely crazy. Inej had to believe they can bring Matthias back to life or this would've been useless. Inej sat down on the top of the stairs. She could hear children giggle downstairs. They had no idea what was happening upstairs. The bodies that laid on the beds of their caretakers. Inej could barely sleep. Her heart raced and she could feel the sweat drip down her back.

"Inej?" It was Nina. She sat down next to Inej. Nina's face was pale and depressed. Nina put her head in her lap and she looked like she was screaming. Inej put her hand on Nina's shoulders.

"Shhhh, let it out Nina, I know how crazy this is. Just let it out."

"I can't believe it," Nina whispered, "I feel asleep for a little bit. I saw them. Kaz and Matthias. This could work."

"It has to work," Inej replied. They heard Wylan and Jesper's voices smattered along with the children. "What happened can't be for nothing."

"I need Matthias back, Inej, I need him. It will work." The Healer rushed out.

"Something's wrong." The rushed inside and Kaz's injuries opened up. The Healer's eyes widened and she rushed over and quickly sealed up his injuries. "We need to wake him up! He is going to die if we don't!" Inej put her hand on the Healer's arm. They couldn't do this now. He was so close. Inej could feel it.

"Not yet! We need to give him a little more time!"

"He will die!"

"A little more time!" Nina shouted. Esfir, Ilya, Jesper, and Wylan ran into the room at the commotion.

"What's going on?" Jesper asked.

"Your friend will die if we do not bring him out of his comatose state."

"Just a little more time, please!" Nina yelled. Wylan looked distressed as blood coming out of Kaz's body again.

"He's going to die! We shouldn't lose anyone else!"

"We need to give him more time!" Inej called. They looked to Esfir. She looked deep in thought until she finally made a sound.

"I agree with Inej and Nina. You'll just have to work harder Padmavaat," everyone else began to fight while Padmavaat sealed up the wounds again and placed a salve over them. Inej walked over to him. She looked over his even paler than normal face.

"What are you doing in there Kaz Brekker," she whispered.

XxX

Kaz could barely believe that this was happening to him. He was about to destabilize death itself. Matthias and Kaz stopped fighting. Kaz had at least five minutes to tell Matthias the full plan.

"Matthias, how do we get what's underneath the throne?" Matthias shook his head.

"I have no idea. It is supposed to be solid Grisha steel. No individual person can move it. Besides no one knows what defenses he has."

"You were right next to the throne? How can you not know?"

"No one touches it."

"But?"

"No one." The ring shifted back into the throne room. Kaz turned to the rest of the friends.

"Do any of you know a way out of here?" He asked. He got bad looked from some of the Grisha. He should've known that the Ravkan comment might've bitten him in the ass. "I didn't actually mean the Ravkan thing," he told them. Well... he kind of did mean it, but they didn't need to know. "I just needed to get his attention." If he was alive and back in Ketterdam he wouldn't have been as nice. Tahlia stepped forward.

"We can make an exit." She willed her binds off and she did the rest to the other Fabrikators. she ran over to Botkin and took off the gag. His newly freed mouth formed a slim smirk. Kaz turned back to Matthias.

"We need to remove the throne." The pair ran over and before Kaz and Matthias could touch it. He turned to Tahlia.

"I have a team. Does anyone know who Fedyor or Marie are?" Many Grisha nodded. "I need someone to bring them over here." Tahlia nodded and the exit started to form. Surprisingly his new team was already there. Alexei! That bastard must've been looking for them. Him with his knowledge of the casino and Jordie's knowledge of the place in general really helped them. They rushed over to where Kaz and Matthias was. Jordie and Kaz gave each other an acknowledging look. Kaz did something quite unexpected. He hugged Jordie. After all, this was probably the last time he would see his brother.

"You did it Kaz," Fedyor said. "This is it?" he asked.

"I'm sure of it. Saint Ilya is here." Marie looked shocked.

"I can't believe it."

"Who are you people?" Matthias asked.

"The people Kaz hired to save your ass!" Mikhael said loudly.

"We need to hurry. The Darkling won't be preoccupied for long." That was Alexei getting his word in. And they all pushed on the throne at once. While the throne didn't budge strange noises began to come out of it. The group backed away. Four people emerged from the throne in black keftas. They were the Darkling's personal soldiers. Fedyor seemed to recognize one of them.

"Hello, Fedyor," he said.

"Ivan." They needed to defeat four soldiers before they could even get close to moving the throne. He needed to rally the other friends or they wouldn't have enough time. A voice came back.

"Oh Kaz Brekker, I should have known you would be up to no good. And Jordan, I'm really disappointed in you." The Darkling was back and by extension, so was Birgit. They would have to fight the Darkling himself, a crazy little Squaller, and the Darkling's personal guard. It didn't seem like much, but the Grisha were cowering in fear. If trained Grisha were cowering in fear the what chance did Kaz's group have?

They were royally screwed.

Hi guys, I know 3 chapters in like 1 week? Insane. I'm really proud of my work ethic. Guys, three more chapters after this. I know it's shorter, but this is really just a chapter to bridge the craziness. I will be taking more time with the other chapters so I might update for another couple weeks, but some of you have dealt with a 6 month hiatus. 2 weeks should be nothing. I hope you enjoyed the chapter. it's gonna get a little wild. Lot's of stuff. hehe.
