Chapter 26: Louis Finally Tries It

A/N Hey everyone! So, I got time to type the chapter up finally! The winner of the contest for POV of this chapter was Louis, actually, but Simone's will be next chapter. I hope to have it up as soon as I can, once I finish a mission trip. No WiFi there, but I'll be writing whenever I get the opportunity there.

If you're wondering, "What contest?" it was on my profile page. I had a contest for which of the two POVs I should do on there. I came up with it after I posted the previous chapter and since quite a lot of you had read it already, I thought it probably wasn't worth editing, since more of you would probably see it on my profile. If you didn't, I apologize, and there may be more contests in other chapters later on, of both this book and others.

So, since this is Louis's chapter, this is the go-karts! Woo! By the way, I hope you all enjoy it!

Louis's POV

"Morning, lads," I greeted as I walked to where my band mates were starting breakfast. I poured myself a glass of orange juice and took a seat between Harry and Zayn.

"Morning, Lou," they chorused, although Niall’s came out in a mumble, since he was in the middle of a bite of his toast.

I found myself laughing a bit at it under my breath, and took a sip of the juice. "So, how was everybody's day yesterday?" I asked them. Niall, Liam and Harry all mumbled some "good"s and "alright"s, but Zayn was silent, looking down at his meal. "Zayn?"

"I screwed up," Zayn mumbled.

"What happened? Yesterday was your date with Kelly, right? I thought it was supposed to be great," Niall said after swallowing his bite of food.

"Yeah, that's what he kept saying before he left," Harry said.

I then attempted an imitation of Zayn from last night before the date. "This date is going to be perfect, I just know it. I'm going to finally make my move," I imitated, fixing my hair a bit. We all laughed, except for Zayn, who looked really annoyed. I then felt really guilty. I had gotten to know him so well in the past three years to know when he really meant he felt horrible about something. His actions and just the way he talked this morning, it was pretty obvious in hindsight, especially after I had made fun of him as well. "Sorry Zayn. So what actually happened?" I asked, stopping my laughter and becoming more serious about it.

"I made a huge mistake last night when I was with Kelly," Zayn sighed. "Okay, so there was this waitress. She kept kind of flirting with me while Kelly was there," he began.

Harry somewhat cut him off. "Oh...I see where this is going," he mumbled.

Zayn continued as if he hadn't heard him. "I did make sure that she knew that Kelly was with me on a date, or at least I thought I did. She passed me her number-.”

“Oh...” we all knew what was next. Kelly saw this and he must have taken it, misunderstanding, and the rest is history.

"And I took the number in order to throw it away when she wasn't there to see it. Kelly got really mad, probably thinking that I was flirting with the waitress. I would have explained, but she was silent the rest of the night. I feel so horrible. I have a feeling she's still going to be mad, even though she isn't one to hold grudges," Zayn explained, sighing at the end. He knew he had messed up big time. And he was right about Kelly. She wasn't one to hold grudges, but it was possible.

"That really explains a lot. You and Kelly did come out of the restaurant not as excited as you had been when you got there," Liam observed.

Zayn nodded. "I just...I need a way to tell her how I feel, you know? Just so i can explain what happened, hopefully get a second chance with her, right?"

"Yeah, mate. We completely understand," Niall told him. "Hey, I think we were supposed to film another video for the Youtube channel, one of just us goofing off-."

"Like always," Liam laughed.

"Yes, like always. Anyway, we all decided we would go and ride some go-karts again, since that was fun the last time," Niall continued.

"Yeah, that was fun! You lost and ran around the whole track yelling, "I'm a big fat idiot!" Aw man; that was priceless!" I laughed.

"And then I fell," Niall brought up.

"Uh huh," I grinned. "And we all erupted into laughter at that. Sorry, Nialler. It was pretty funny, though," I added an apology at the end.

"It's fine, Lou. But as I was saying, why don't we invite the girls to come, and maybe you could talk with her, Zayn, or something like that," Niall finally suggested. "We can hang out with them, have a few races, some with just us foe the video and some with the girls."

Harry smiled. "Niall Horan, you are a genius," he said.

"Let's do it!" I exclaimed. "I'll call up Liz and get her to round up all the girls," I said, standing up.

Zayn nodded. "Alright, lads. Let's go get ready," he said, his eyelids drooping. This was when I realized he still wouldn't be up this early on a normal day.

"Zayn, did you get any sleep last night?" I asked. When Zayn shook his head, I shooed him off. "Go and take a kip or something. It'll take a bit of time to get this whole thing organized. Plus, you just look tired."

Zayn nodded, and stumbled back to his bedroom. Liam turned to me. "Lou, when did you become so responsible?" He asked. I could tell he was partially joking, but he still looked surprised.

I shrugged. "I don't know. Probably it just came over me, kind of like I realized he needed help, you know?"

"More like he didn't want a drowsy Zayn to distract him while he calls Lizzie," Harry mumbled with a smirk, but I could hear it clearly.

"And what do you mean by that, Harold?" I joked with him a bit, trying to hide the fact that his observation was somewhat true.

"Well, it's obvious that you like her, mate," Harry said, sipping his glass of apple juice after shooting me a glare for calling him Harold.

"I do not!" I tried to hide it again.

"Yeah, sure. We'll believe that," Harry laughed. "Just call her already!"

I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room, grabbing my phone. But, just as I left, I overheard the lads continuing to talk. "He does like her," Niall observed.

"It's obvious he does," Liam agreed. I just rolled my eyes and walked into my room to call her.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few hours later, the lads and I stood outside of a go-kart place. The girls were going to come in a while, after we had the race for the video. There was a small camera crew there as well, who were taking a few outside shots.

Harry was talking as they were filming. “So, we’re going to go and ride go-karts again. Most likely Niall is going to lose, again,” he laughed. “And I think I’m going to make him yell out that he’s a big fat idiot again.”

“Who says I’m going to lose again?” Niall asked, coming on camera next to Harry. “Maybe you’ll lose and then you’ll have to say that you are!”

Harry shook his head. “No, I’m going to win, just like last time with Liam,” he grinned.

“Yeah, Niall, you’re going to lose,” I added. “But he’s not going to win either. That’s going to be all me,” I laughed.

“Oh no. Here we go again,” Liam mumbled, and then laughed. “Come on everyone, let’s race, and see who really is the champion.”

We all headed inside and put on driving suits, grabbed our helmets and headed out to get our go-karts. We were going to race solo for this one, no teams, so there were five waiting for us.

I hopped into the one nearest me, and rested my foot on the gas pedal, waiting. As the rest of the lads got into their own go-karts, I saw the girls walk in and stand behind the camera crew, watching us. I smiled when I saw Lizzie, but nobody saw, since I already had put my helmet on my head.

The countdown started, and when they said go, we were off. We all sped around the track, as fast as most of us could go. We were having a great time already. As I rounded a corner, I thought I felt someone’s eyes on me. I looked over and saw Lizzie looking at me. I smiled, and kept driving, rounding another corner soon after. I just had to win, so I could impress her.

The race went by quickly, or at least it felt that way to me. I pulled up over at the side when it was over. Taking off my helmet, I grinned. “Did I win?” I asked the nearest cameraman.

“We’ll see,” the cameraman answered. I hopped out of the go-kart and went to find out where I ranked. When the camera wasn’t looking at me, I walked over to the girls. “Hey, girls, I’m glad you could make it,” I told them with a smile.

“Thanks, Lou. We’re glad we could make it too,” Liz smiled back at me.

The rest of the girls nodded, most of them giving smiles. The only one who didn’t was Kelly. She was looking over at Zayn, and I could tell she was trying not to run off. Ana placed a hand on her friend’s shoulder, probably to reassure her that they were there for her. I admired that. I opened my mouth to add that Zayn needed to talk with Kelly, but I then decided against it, and closed my mouth.

“By the way, Louis, nice job racing,” Courtney smiled. “You went pretty fast.”

“Thanks,” I said. I was just about to ask Liz if she wanted to partner up for the next race after the camera crew left, but then I heard someone calling me.

“Louis! Get over here! We’re going to announce the winner!” Liam called.

“Coming!” I yelled back. Turning to the girls, I said, “See you soon,” and then ran off to the stand.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The video was done very quickly; all it needed was a bit of editing I guess. In about an hour or two they had enough footage. It sounds impressive, huh?

Anyway, the camera crew was gone now, so it was time for the real race. This one, we’d be doing tag teams, and we had one more go-kart wheeled out. Since we had an odd number, we called in the reinforcements: the band. Sandy, who was our bass guitarist, volunteered to come help us out.

When he came in, we were just setting up the teams. Obviously, it was Liam and Courtney, and then Harry and Ana. But, instead of Niall’s plan working out where Zayn and Kelly could talk, Kelly told Simone she could go with Zayn, and she volunteered to go alone.

That was when Sandy spoke. “Actually, I’m here to even it out, so I’ll be your partner,” he said to Kelly. “I’m Sandy.”

I tuned out there, and walked to Lizzie. “Want to be partners, Liz?” I asked with a grin, hoping she’d say yes.

“Sure, Lou,” she smiled. “Sounds great.”

“Perfect. So that leaves Niall and Lucy,” I said, looking over at the groups. Niall and Lucy did look as if they had partnered up, but as always, they looked uncomfortable.

“I don’t get why they don’t just admit it. I mean, really. We’ve caught them kissing on a roof, almost kissing in a pool, and sharing glances and smiles. They obviously like each other, right?” Liz asked me quietly, so the people in question wouldn’t hear.

“Exactly!” I grinned, and we high fived. Turning to the group, I said, “Well, let’s decide who can go first.” I laughed when I saw all the girls point to their guy partner. Even Lizzie pointed at me. “Well, then, let’s go,” I shrugged. Everyone besides the lads had put on their suits prior to coming in here, to my surprise, so we didn’t have to send them back. “Grab your helmets, boys!”

The six of us grabbed our helmets again and headed over to the go-karts again, the sixth one having already showed up. We hopped into our karts again, and got ready to go.

We were off. Just like that the six of us sped through the track, trying to get in as many laps as we could. I went pretty fast, I thought, but Zayn lapped me a few times throughout the race, same with Liam and Sandy. That was disappointing. I hoped that Lizzie could possibly bump up my score when I was done.

I pulled up after a while to trade with Liz. She frowned at me. “What the heck was that?” She asked.

“Um, my attempt to beat some of them?” I supplied, wishing that would work.

“Louis Tomlinson, you’ve driven too slow on the freeway, and too fast in a music video, not to mention in another video with no hands. Why aren’t you driving faster than a grandma when you’re in a go-kart?”

“I don’t know! But it’s up to you now,” I said, hopping out to let her in.

“Exactly. Watch and learn, Tomlinson,” she said, getting in and putting the helmet on. She got ready, and as soon as the countdown ended, she sped off at a faster speed than I had gone during the whole race. She was a speed demon! She lapped the rest of the girls quickly, easily, and multiple times! I was definitely impressed.

Zayn looked at me. “That’s Lizzie?” he asked, pointing at her go-kart racing through the track. When I nodded, he sighed. “Well, then Simone and I are toast,” he said. But that wasn’t the only thing he was sad about, and I could tell. I didn’t say anything more.

After their race ended, Liz pulled up in front of me. She took her helmet off and smirked at me.

“What was that?” I asked, shocked.

“That, my friend, was me, teaching you how to drive American style,” she said, laughing and getting out of the vehicle.

As Ana popped out from the one next to her, she looked at Lizzie, her eyes wide. “Everyone, I think we have all met the next Danica Patrick,” she commented.

“Thanks, Ana,” Lizzie smiled. “That’s exactly what I was going for: being compared to your favorite female racer.”

“Well, obviously Lizzie won, even beating out her teammate,” Simone called out. When I raised my eyebrows at her, she added, “Oh come on, Louis. You know it’s true. But, since you’re teammates, you both win.”

The track erupted in cheers, smiling. I smiled, and high fived Liz, who smirked at me. She added, “Next time, if we’re not partners, I’m going to destroy you.”

“Is that a challenge?” I asked her.

“I’d consider it one,” she laughed.

I quieted for a second, so only she could hear what I said next. “You wouldn’t want to beat your boyfriend, would you?”

Her eyes widened. “Lou? I thought...” she began, and then smiled. “Is this your way of asking me out?”

“Possibly. It depends on if you say yes or not,” I said with a laugh.

She laughed again. “Well, I don’t know…” she began, taunting me. “Oh, why not? Sure, Louis.”

I cheered, and pumped my fist in the air. “Yes! Tommo scores!”

Everyone else just stared at me. “What happened this time?” Lucy asked.

“I asked her out.” Easiest way to say it.

Finally!” Harry sighed. “Took you long enough.”

We all laughed and rolled our eyes. “Come on, everyone, let’s go get some ice cream,” Kelly offered, going back to her sweet self. “Meet at DQ?”

“Sounds perfect,” I said. And, the smile that formed on my lips as soon as Lizzie said yes never left my face.

A/N So? What did you all think of this chapter? Funny? Sweet? Cute? Or boring? I really would love to hear what you all thought. By the way, I left the winner part open-ended of the first race, so you can pick out who you think would have won of the five of them.

Here's this week's question. Don't forget to answer it in the comments: Have you ever been go-karting? And if so, how was it?

I actually have never been, but I want to really bad. I've watched a lot of videos with go-karting (okay, one, but just over and over), and it looked like tons of fun.

Video of the Chapter: One Direction Go karting

Picture of the Chapter: One Direction in their driving suits

That video is the research I've done on it, pretty much. I just think it's so funny, especially Niall's third place run.

By the way, I'm entering this contest in the One Direction Fanfiction Awards! If you voted for it that would mean the world to me! Thank you so much if you do!

And one last thing: Directioners, if you like Big Time Rush and The Beatles (crazy combination, right?) my friend adreamyreality and I are working on a fan fiction that involves all of them. It's got a bit of fantasy in it, so if you don't like that, you don't have to read it, but I would appreciate it if you checked it out. We've only got the prologue up now, but we'll have the next chapter up soon once we finish it. (Actually, even if you don't like BTR, you could probably still read it and enjoy it. You'll find out why.)

I think I've covered everything. Please vote, comment, and follow! See you later Dreamers! (If you didn't see that on my profile, that's my new name for readers and followers.)

Anyway, bye!
