*Maggie's POV*

I was napping on Mom's shoulder when we arrived home, the sun was rising. Cops were there to protect us. Mom carried me in the house with Aldrich behind us.

"I have to do my girl's stuff, and Maggie really needs to sleep."

He followed us upstairs to the master bedroom.

"I'm sorry...but can we have a little privacy?"

"Sure T.K."

Aldrich left the room and closed the door but stayed by the door. Mom put me down and helped me in the bed.

"I hope Daddy's ok," I said.

She began stroking my cheek.

"He's gonna be fine, your father is the bravest man I know."

She kissed me on the forehead and let me sleep. Seconds later, I heard Mom whispering. I sat up, she was in the closet whispering to someone, hearing the other voice, it sounded like Daddy. I got up and ran to them. There was Dad, hiding in the ceiling compartment.

"I need my gun," he said.

"I must've left it at the hospital."

"I need a weapon...T.K."

Mom walked to the dresser and started looking for a spare gun. Dad was looking at me, he was staring directly into my soul.

"I missed you Daddy, I was worried, me and Mom were."

He smiled and reached his hand out for me to take, there was no ring imprint on his ring finger. My smile vanished and my blood felt like it did too. That's not Dad. Mom came back with the gun, she was about to give it to him but stopped.

"I was just thinking that if it weren't for that day we met in the bookstore, we wouldn't be in this kind of mess."

"Even if we didn't, I still would've come."

Mom pointed the gun at him.

"What was in the bookstore?"

He just looked at her unfazed.

"Just so you know, I am going to take that gun and kill you before you can pull the trigger, there's nothing you can do but give it to me."

His voice was at a lower register which wasn't like Dad at all.

"Aldrich!" Mom shouted.

Just as Aldrich walked in, he was shot dead. Mom ran to get Aldrich's gun but Dad got to her, he had his arm around her neck, he dragged her to the window, he pointed the gun to her side.

"Gabe," she whispered.

"Nooooooooooo!" I heard another voice outside.

The man in the room was obviously an evil twin. Dad shouted once more before she was shot. I screamed and sobbed in tears. At that moment, I was being hugged.

"It's ok Maggie."

It was Meggie! We hugged tightly like sisters.

Yates ran in with other cops.

"Gabe drop it, drop it now...drop it!"

He shot the cops in the stomach. Aldrich was gone, Yates was gone, and Mom was gone...right in front of me. I thought about what Dad said about someone resembling him attacking him. Meggie was me also.

"Oh stop it, you're making me nauseous."

"Dad, she just watched her own mom get shot," Meggie replied.

I let go and looked at her Dad. I looked at him, her, then Mom, I started crying again.

"Why did you kill her?"

"She was in my way, I had to."

"No you didn't!"

I crawled to Mom's body, undid the necklace, put it in my jacket pocket.

"Mommy," I sniffed.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and Meggie's dad squating beside me.

"Aw...you poor thing, don't worry, you'll be joining her soon."

Just then, he picked me up and put the gun to my head.

"Dad what're you doing!?"

"I'm going to kill her. What did you think?"

"No...Dad...please don't."

"How come pumpkin...you don't wanna spoil your birthday present do you?"

Meggie paused for a second.

"...Dad...you've been killing variations of me?"

"Once a year since I started."

Meggie looked like she was gonna scream at him.

"Oh honey, it was out of love...I wanted you to be strong, the best gift any father can give."

"130 people, you killed 130 people!?"

"Do you want a good birthday this year?"

"Put her down...please...I like her...I really like her. I want her alive for my birthday...and her father too."

He put me down and stared his daughter down.

"You want my last variation alive?"

"130 people is enough."

"How am I gonna be The One if I'm not the only variation of me in the multiverse...hmm? You said you would support me in my journey Megan."

"I supported you until just now, you've gone too far Dad!"

He grabbed both her arms hard.

"Careful, you'll literally crush my shoulders," she winced.

"You said you wouldn't betray me, you said you would be my number one supporter. I am your father and you are my daughter, we are family...families are supposed to support one another."

"Not like this."

"Let her go!" I shouted.

I finally had the guts after watching them argue. He turned to me and laughed.

"You're right honey, not like this."

He walked to me and bent down to my level.

"I have a job for both of you girls, if you succeed, I'll keep you alive. There's a factory outside of town, find your father and meet me there. We'll see who becomes The One."

He stood back up and turned to Meggie.

"Now both of you get out of my sight!"

Meggie took my hand and we ran out the door.
