Chapter 6

Later that night, Jacob was on his computer analyzing the video analysis transferred from each of the sisterhood's transformations as well as their human identities with their drones.

"Brittney Unist: Love tech, single father, enthusiastic curiosity, willingness to combat dangers. Use of Cryokinesis is juvenile, yet uses intelligence and creativity. Higher levels of chaos energy contained within her abilities for transmutation."

"Belladonna Ulter: Personal reasons aside, loves nature and animals, mother sole parent. Active on social media to support her interests, can harness the power of animals via containing them in bubbles. Has the most destructive potential but rationalizes the safety and concern about eliminating threats, particularly of animals."

"Berenice Ulrich, former sports star, known for having questionable and patronizing remarks. Skilled at tennis, though potentially capable with numerous other sports. Physically the most gifted of the three but lacks special abilities in comparison."

"Given their attire when they change into metahuman figures powered by chaos energy seemingly from X-Waves, it's possible they have mediums to prevent a negative release from Y-Waves. If I could replicate that technology, it's possible to enhance the reduction speed of future victims."

Nectar howled to him.

"Yeah, I should get some sleep," deciding to make a call. "Mayor? Yes, the investigation is making some progress. I'll see what I can do."

The voice on the phone changed.

"Secretary Baker? Yes, well, I actually need your advice on improving fraternization with one of them. That's normal? Well, I'd rather not bother Kennedy, I mean Ms. Marge again. Okay, okay, I'll give it a shot."

For now, he kept the files regarding their identities a secret but sent the analysis of their capabilities to two sources before making another call.

"Kenn-Ms. Marge. Sorry, I'm still not used to that either way. Anyway, I well....need a favor," explaining the details.

"Oh sure. Come early tomorrow."

The next day, Brittney slid down to the school, joining Bella, Bern, and Ming arguing over the effect of the latter lady's special item: a rubber duck.

"Luck Duck has been around me ever since Ming got it for me at the carnival," Bern defended. "It's when I stopped bringing it things got much harder."

"Well that wasn't the only reason."

"Why did you two break up again?"

"It's complicated," both responded.

Bern told them that she also saw a strange spiritual figure with horns. Bella wondered if it had something to do with her promise while Brittney found amusement they all had someone who gave them powers.

Ms. Marge took Brittney's hand out of the blue. "Ms. Unist, I mean Brittney. Could you come with me, it's super important," insisting she was the only one needed. The scarlet spectacle agreed to do it while Bella laughed.

"You're here early for once?"

"Ssh, I'm getting better at that."

Upstairs, Jacob was waiting for them in her homeroom. Ms. Marge slipped out of the room, barely leaving it open.

"Oh, hey, what's up?"

Jacob gulped, then showed her a list.

"I have a list of activities and experiences I need and desire to complete. And, well," having his robotic ally nudge him. "Nester figured it'd be a good idea if I had a colleague to assist me, and I figured that person would be well," twirling his cheek, "you. Tomorrow."

"Like with just science?"

"A bit more than that, but I'll even show you some software and hardware designs that help me build him. So, what do you say?

"Well, I'm not sure. What if there's a monster attack?"

His hands jittered, a tear dropped, and he clenched his fist before catching up.

"I know what it's like to feel helpless. As long as you're with me, I won't ever make you feel that way, I promise."

Those words struck Brittney straight in the chest. A wind flowed in her heart.

"Sure," hoping for the best. "Let's do it!"

"Great," briefly beaming. "Also, could you keep this a secret? I don't like my private information being out there."

"Got a stalker?"

"No. I just work somewhere where I'd rather not risk being not professional. The other day was an exception, but sending Nester to deal with Ditch just didn't feel right. See ya around."

Marge's head hit the door when he opened it, prompting him to apologize. Brittney made a makeshift ice-pack, openly curious why she asked for Marge's help.

"Jacob has trust issues, but he once stopped me from becoming a monster while getting adjusted to his new conditions. He wouldn't have asked me to do something like this unless he was genuine about it."

"Yeah," hoping to learn more about this.

Bella and Bern appeared right behind them. "So what happened?"

"Um, I know I said we should hang out more as a team, but something came up tomorrow. Let's meet on Sunday instead, fair?"

"Sure I guess," Bern replied as Bella's intuition suspected something was up.

At home, Brittney researched what to do with a guy, and the results shocked her.

"Wait, is this a date?" She squeezed B-Rex and rolled around on the bed with questions and answers on what to do and the results weren't helping. "Wait," revisiting some old superheroes shows much to her avail. "They always end up being forced to keep their secrets," almost crashing from how many she was keeping at this point. "I can't put him through what Arachnid Adolescent's crushes deal with," sobbing until Marge's words kicked in. "Maybe he does like me: but as a friend or more," calculating formulas in her head to figure it out. "Alright, let's start the experiment!"

The next morning, she woke up extra early to make her own breakfast as quiet as possible. As she was about to head out the door, her father yawned and walked out.

"What are you," dozing off, "going out today. That's not what you us-uall," gulping. "Are you going out on a date?"

"Uh," her eyes veered left and right. "No?" He chased her around the table begging for proof. Brittner rushed into the bedroom, hiding behind the door. When he opened it, there was a bow on her bed. He pressed it and the sound of lullaby music slowly moved him to rest on the bed while she slipped out.

"Wish me luck dad."

She found his apartment not too long after. On one side was his wide array of tech neatly organized, including a familiar suit of armor he didn't need anyone finding out about. As soon as he heard the doorbell ringing, he activated a switch before opening the door.

Brittney peered in. His room consisted of garbage cans with an organized sliced up pizza box and drinks, an organized mess of colored and white clothes, a kitchen with dishes in the sink neatly waiting to be washed, and the bathroom she used to pee was completely clean.

It's neat but it's not neat. Weird.

I was told men don't usually keep a clean environment. Wonder if this was a nice balance. "Make yourself at home, I usually don't have guests over."

Could've fooled me, taking off her shoes and settling in what she couldn't tell was a bedroom or a living room. The two sat by each other on the bed, with sweat dropping on both their faces so much that he activated the cooling system and opened the windows. As she grew calmer, he summoned Nectar out, who glomped onto her with joy. She picked him up.

"What's wrong with his leg?"

"I was helping someone out and he got hurt in the crossfire. Wanna patch him up?"

"Sure!" He handed her some tools, only giving her tips regarding the wiring. Their hands met tightening up the joints, turning red for a bit as he confirmed the leg was readjusted.

"You're sure you need help?"

"Well I sorta just tinkered around with what I can find. Barely anything worked so I," catching herself from slipping, "just remodeled some into things that could work. I still need to learn the basics."

"Okay," handing her some books. "Here's some guidebooks I used when I was younger."

She skimmed it with glee. "Can I keep it?" He nodded. "Oh thank you thank you," hugging him.

Jacob almost fumbled over, catching himself underneath a sea of dvds.

"Wait, you have tokusatsu dvds?"

"I try to support the official release when I can," placing one in to watch adventures of a retro Arachnid Adolescent show. The two reacted to the campy, yet serious vibes it was going for. He started to smile, grow excited and express horror with her alongside the more grotesque moments.

"Now I see why he doesn't tell anyone about his identity. Jacob, would you tell someone if you were a superhero?"

"It depends. I'd have to get to know the person, goals, and origins of their powers. Worst case scenario, I know them enough to follow up on. But it's good to have confidants. Arachnid definitely could've told someone in his past shows."

She couldn't disagree. At least there were three people who knew what she was going through.

"Concerned about your friendships with the girls?"

"Sort of. I just hope," wondering about her devices, "they don't get fed up with me at a certain point. I kinda ditched them to hang out with you today," scratching her nose.

His eyes widened to that. The next thing she knew, he was carrying her bridal style and shoving the books into her bag.

"H-huh?"

"I'll make it up to you. Let's go, Nectar."

Nectar took her bag and joined him, speeding out of the room. The next thing she knew, he was on a skateboard, and her bow was the only thing locking her hair in place of the swift breathtaking wind. He advised her to lock her hands around his neck while he zoomed around, allowing her to take in the aroma of the more fancier locales in town, the parks and buildings in need of repair, and places she wish she had the money to enter.

Eventually he braked off next to a flower shop, purchasing a white flower for her to add to her bow.

"That was amazing!"

He dusted her off while Nectar transformed into a backpack and comb, which he used to brush her hair. "Glad." Both did quick scans testing for any spikes of energy, only for her to notice the flower and her cheeks to grow.

Calm down, Brittney, that was too smooth, about to faint.

"What's wrong," letting her down onto the ground. "Was I too firm," trying to determine her condition. Think Jacob, what did Marge say about compliments? Oh, taking a deep breath. "I like your shirt, it matches your usual outfit."

She popped up. "You noticed?"

"I don't really care much for fashion, but it shows off your warm aesthetic."

"Wow, uh thanks. I just put on what I like."

"It suits you," nodding, taking her hand and leading her into the museum. Inside, they witnessed an unveiling of an ancient monument.

"Is that the mayor?"

Mayor Garm stood on top of a ladder while his secretary handled

unveiling the monument, an ancient tablet with two horns. Energy briefly pulsated in Brittney's body.

"We have unearthed the ancient texts that may offer us a solution to the Chaos Crisis."

Jacob raised an eye. "Seriously?"

The modelesque lady with red hair so big no one could see her eyes continued. "Part of the translation states: those who harness the powers can end the destruction of all miracles."

The younger redhead fought the shock, admiring her beauty as she raised her hand. "What does the rest of the text say?"

"We aren't quite sure. However, the translators should be here later to transcribe the rest of them."

After more questions, most of the camera crews left, leaving Jacob and Brittney alone with the secretary and the mayor, the former of whom approached her.

"Such a young and curious child," with a bright smile. "Always good to see the next generation interested in learning so much more."

"Thanks," admiring her curls up close. "Your hair is amazing!"

"Yours too. Take pride in it."

The mayor joined them.

"Aren't you...um, hello random citizen I've never met."

Brittney pointed out this was the first time they've met while Jacob stood silent.

"Ahem, either way, excited about the monument?"

Jacob shook his head. "It's a stone slab. There has to be more to the text than some empty platitudes. I'll, well, whoever translates it has to find something much more interesting."

He was set to take a photo when a guard approached them. "Hey, no photos," jittering his metallic arm. He fought back, telling the blue uniform worker to stop, but his arm fell off as Garm told the cop to stand down.

Brittney's P-Tector analyzed multiple people's chaos energy building up from the panic while a familiar figure hid nearby. Either way, she had to do something, fast.
