This is the third of a four-book series of the ladies of Mu Alpha Chi (MAX) sorority. MAX is 100% made up, all their history, secrets, and traditions are just my imagination.
All other Black Greek orgs will be in the stories but not enough where any of their secrets or traditions are revealed.
Some situations happening in this story are based on factual events. If you're a friend/soror, sorry not sorry if you recognize yourself in any of these stories.
The theme of this third installment is sisters. Having pledged with my sister as the only sisters to pledge together at my chapter I know the dynamics well. Also in this book, I want to delve more into the Divine Nine and put some positive light on them.
Some terminology:
Prophyte: big sister/brother that brings in new members (neos)
Neophyte: or mostly called just Neo, means a new member of the organization. They have that title till the next line comes in.
DP/Dean of Pledges: prophyte in charge of bringing in new pledges
LS/Linesister (LB/line brother): members on the same pledge line.
Probate show: an exhibition put on by new members to let the campus know they have crossed into membership.
Strolling: hopping, dancing, a showcase of fraternities and sororities in a line formation, particularly at parties, but also can be a show.
Stepping/Stepshow: a performance show where sororities and fraternities dance/step/march synchronized in various formations, often with props, exact outfits, and chants. Go watch Stomp the Yard to see it in action.
Call: the verbal sound an organization makes that is distinct to them
Soror: sorority sister in the same organization
Frat: fraternity brother in the same organization
Divine Nine: the nine nationally recognized Black Greek organizations:
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, founded in 1906, black and gold
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, founded in 1908, pink and green
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, founded in 1911, red and white
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, founded in 1911, purple and gold
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, founded in 1913, crimson and cream
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, founded in 1914, blue and white
Zeta Phi Beta Fraternity, founded in 1920, blue and white
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, founded in 1922, blue and gold
Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, founded in 1963, brown and gold
Let me know if any other terminologies need to be explained
The Greek Alphabet.
