35. #3 Twinkle Twinkle

Amber POV

"Alright everyone, listen up. Yes, I'm a twin, but I'm always my own person. I followed the path meant for me, not that of my sister. It's me, Amber McCormack here with a little sprinkle, sprinkle, I'm the anchor and they call me Twinkle, Twinkle."

Now that things were calming down after crossing, she could go back to being a regular college student.

Well, there was nothing regular about her anymore. Everyone she ran into on campus congratulated her, well all of the Black students. Even though she received lots of MAX clothing items, she was not going to wear everything, every day. The theory was if you wore paraphernalia every day, especially more than one item, it showed that you were a neo.

Yes, she was a neo but she did not need to act like one.

The attention she now received made her escape back into her shell. She was nothing like her twin Jade, who after her crossing became more over the top. Every day one of her AKA sorors or some new guy was over in their room. None of the guys she was serious about, she said they were just friends.

She did get to meet some of her other line sisters. There was her Ace, number one Cassietta Del Ray, a cute little, petite girl, half Chinese, half Mexican. She was a junior, engaged to her fiancé for about a year now. She really thought she was hot snot.

The number two was Mekell Lewis, also short and petite, cute, and knew she was. Light-skinned, long hair, nice body, and had a boyfriend as well. She was a sophomore, bragged about coming from money, and how she took a gap year after high school and traveled around the world. How she did not have to choose ISU when she had been accepted at better schools. She was annoying and she would rather not be around her.

Number three, Tamira Williams, was a senior, already married. Why the need to wait and pledge in the last year, she was unsure of. Lark waited her senior year but that was more because each year she could not get her grade point average high enough. She was not trying to ask either, the girl talked a mile a minute.

Number nine, the tallest, was Desire Palone, and her name exactly fit her. Medium height, curvy, honey-brown skin, and long locs down to her waist. A sophomore as well, she was a bit more likable than the others. She had yet to meet any others, but they were all super pretty.

Sheesh!

Still, none compared to Jodi.

"Don't we look good in our pink and green?" Jade grabbed Jodi in a hug as they hung out in the residence hall's courtyard having dinner.

Both were wearing the same pink shirt with green lettering on it. Jade's dark skin was popping in the bright color, while the pink made Jodi's fair skin glow. Jodi also wore a pink derby hat over her short curls. It fit her so well and made her seem cool and fashionable.

"I mean, yes and yes," Jodi said with a chuckle, as she pushed Jade away. "But let's not get big heads and act like they think all AKA's act."

"What's that?' she asked, although she knew the stereotype that AKA were "pretty girls" and acted as such. From the ones she met so far, stereotyping them ran true.

It even was the case for her own twin. It was something that she did not see in Jodi.

"I mean, yes, we're cute and all, but that doesn't mean we have to act like assholes about it," Jodi said then sipped her Powerade. "Like, there are attractive women in other sororities, right? Amber, like you and your sorors, right?"

"Yeah...yeah, sure." While she did not think she was ugly, she never considered herself as attractive as her sister. As far as her line sisters, they were pretty as well, but not the type to flaunt their looks like the AKA neos she met.

"Naaa! My sis thinks any girl is hot. She doesn't even have a type."

Her sister surely would embarrass her if she kept on. "I don't need a type! I'm attracted to a person inside as much as their outside."

"Yeah, as if you've had any experience dating."

As expected, leave it to her sister to embarrass her. She only came out not so long ago, and she only had one girlfriend so far. It was hard for her to find girls that felt the same about her. She did not want to be friend-zoned again like with Daysha.

"Guys are a mess, you have it easy dating girls," Jodi said to her.

No, she did not, she thought to herself. It was easier to get with a guy because a guy would hump anything. For her, the issue was finding a girl she liked and hoping they were lesbian. Or even bi-sexual like Daysha.

"Problem with Twinkle here," Jade said, making fun of her pledge name. Jade hated it, while she loved it. "She falls for girls that don't deserve her. Like, girls can break your heart worse than guys. Trust me on that."

Jade may be right, but she would not agree. Jade's pledge name was Black Barbie, and she saw nothing cute about that. She hated the damn doll, the movie, and everything it stood for.

"Yo! What's up with the finest ladies in the house!"

She was familiar with the guy who interrupted their girl time. Seen him around campus but did not know his name. Now here he was trying to flirt with them. Well, maybe not her, maybe her sister.

"Heeey!" her sister said to him.

"Two pretty girls, and a lady of MAX. How do I choose?"

She rolled her eyes at him. She was out of the equation, she didn't know if he knew that. She was out to everyone on campus, there was nothing a guy could do for her.

"Better choose right," Jade said with a Chesire grin at him.

"Yeah, choose right," Jodi gave a similar smile to him.

Good Lord, she hated to see this right in front of her. She jumped up from the table.

"I'm gonna just go...see you two later."

"You cute too, I might choose you," he said.

"Boy bye!"

She walked away as quickly as she could. Not seeing her sister and Jodi flirt with that creep. Guys were jerks, she was so glad that she had no attraction to any of them.

By the time she made it to her room, she heard someone running down the hall behind her.

"Amber, wait up!

It was Jodi, she knew her voice without even turning. Voice soft like an angel singing a perfect tune.

"Hey, I wasn't trying to hear what that fool was saying, but your sister was."

"I thought you liked him too?"

"What? No! I just egged him on because it's fun." She chuckled at that. "So what are you about to get into?"

"Nothing." She opened the door to her room. "You coming in? Waiting for Jade?"

"Naw, she might be a minute, but I'll hang out with you."

Instead of going to sit on Jade's bed as she always did, she sat on her bed. That made her feel some kind of way. Slowly, she made her way over to her bed but sat as many inches away from her as she could.

"So...you like being an AKA so far?"

"Doesn't change anything about me. You?"

"What?"

"Being a MAX? And you have your big sister with you."

"Yeah, that's nice. And Laila and Marketta are like my two best friends." She was babbling and could not stop herself. "Almost like more sisters to me. As I get to know my big sisters...I mean, prophytes, I hope they become like sisters too. Just one big-"

Before she knew what was happening Jodi moved in close to her, pressed her lips to hers, and began kissing her. Her reaction was to do what she had been wanting to do for weeks. Kiss her back.

When Jodi finally moved away, they sat there and watched each other.

"Why did you do that?"

"Because I wanted to."

"But...but you're not gay"

"I don't want to put a label on it. I like what I like. And I've been feeling this way about you for a while."

"So you're fluid? Jade never said-"

"Jade doesn't know everything about me, and I couldn't tell her I was feeling her twin sister. In fact, let's keep this between us."

She wanted to shout to everyone that Jodi was into her. But for now, she would take keeping it away from her sister.

She finally got her girl.

A/N: Amber gets her girl! Let's hope it's not more heartbreak.
