11. All the Sass
Marketta POV
This was the best week she had in a long while. On top of being granted an interview into MAX, she had a date with the Alpha, Quintavious.
They had been texting and calling each other since the party but had yet to meet up. They finally decided on a date off campus at Tassica's, a local bar and restaurant. He was even being a gentleman and picking her up at her residence hall.
"You look nice." That was the first thing he said to her when she walked out to meet him. Dressed in a simple black straps dress and her best high-heeled shoes, she wanted to be cute but low-key.
"Thank you. You too." This was true because he dressed to the nines in a button-down striped shirt, and dark slacks with a belt even. Nice shoes, not some dusty tennis shoes either.
Brother drove a nice, black Subaru sports car, she was not familiar with the make. It was nice and expensive looking, which meant he had a little money. His car was better than the old Kia Sportage that she and her sister saved up for and shared. He probably had parents who were still together and rich. Only child and spoiled. He got whatever he wanted.
Since he was an Alpha, he probably was a legacy. His father and/or grandfather were Alpha men. Maybe his mother was in a sorority. Perhaps AKA or even a Delta. He grew up wanting Alpha to be like his father for sure.
"I'm glad we finally get to go out," he said starting up the conversation. While texting he always seemed so chill, and he never waited too long to reply back to her texts.
"Yes. I know we stay so busy with everything going on."
"How's BSU? I'm planning on attending the next meeting about Greek Life."
"Oh, it's great. I'm trying to do the best that I can with such a big organization. I hear others talk about past presidents they have had and like, little old me can't fill their shoes."
"You can. And you can do better."
"We shall see. How about you? What's it like being in a fraternity?" She felt lame asking him that question. And then she hoped he did not turn around and ask her if she wanted to pledge.
"Being in a fraternity is life-changing. When people say it doesn't change you, they are a lie. It should."
It changed Manny for the worse. She did not think Jordan changed much, he was always going to lie for his brothers.
"I hear so many bad stories about ALpha men...I mean all frat guys. Like y'all dogs just want to get with girls, stuff like that."
He threw a grin at her. "If you thought I was like that, why would you accept a date with me?"
He was right. She did not think he was like that. She had to stop putting all fraternity guys in a box. She was not her sister who was hurt by one. She dumped hers because she could not trust him.
"All I'm saying is, some of them-"
"You're right, some. Get to know me, you might like me."
So far so good. Quintavius took her to a nice restaurant, paid for everything, then tehy walked around the Circle talking some more.
"I can't believe you have a big family like that. Does it drive you crazy?"
"No. It's kind of cool always having someone there. Me and my sister are tight like that. Inseparable. And even with my younger siblings, they know I have their back."
"I was never jealous about others having siblings, it was cool being just me. That means I had more stuff."
And just with that sentence, there was only child syndrome and spoiled entitled rich kid. She would stop judging him though, maybe he was different.
"My parents put me in all sorts of activities and I always made friends, then had sleepovers and parties. I was in peewee football, on tee-ball, a Boy Scout and Delta EMBODI program with my mom, and then Project Alpha with my father. Anything and everything they said to keep me busy."
She pretty much had him all figured out. He was upper middle class, spoiled, and very traditional upbringing while she and her family were lower class and struggled. College was a given for him while she had to fight to maintain her grades and earn a scholarship.
"You should pledge Delta."
She stopped walking. How dare he say that to her. He had no idea what she wanted to do, he barely knew her.
Quintavious also stopped and faced her. "My bad, I know, I know, you should not discuss what you want to pledge but...it's a great sorority, and not just because my mother is in it."
"Well, that's fair. I'm just not interested."
"Okay, okay, I will be quiet." He picked up her hand. "Don't think I'm an asshole because I said that to you. I really like you Marketta."
She needed to give the guy a break. It was not his fault his parents probably instilled the love of both their organizations in him. What would he say when he found out she wanted to be a MAX? Would that change anything?
"Quintavius, let's just see how things work out."
After their little stroll, they headed back to campus. He helped her out of the car and walked her to the residence hall's front door.
"Thank you for a good first date. Hopefully, you let me have another if I didn't mess this one up too much."
"No, you didn't." She smiled and then kissed his cheek. "Goodnight Quintavius."
At least she was out there trying to meet new guys. She considered that a win.
But she wanted to date other guys to explore her options.
A/N: Let's see if this guy can make up for telling her what to pledge 🤦🏾♀️ That was a lame move.
