How I Love School

Shit. I'm so late. Violet is going to crucify me, that's if she's even waiting for me. I ran down the streets as fast as my legs would take me. So far this day had been crummy to say the least. School hadn't even begun yet. I breathed a sigh of relief when I rounded the corner. My pace slowed as I walked up to her.

"What time do you call this?" she asked curtly, tapping her foot impatiently.

Looking sheepish I replied. "Uhhh...Well I sort of slept in a bit...Sorry." I knew Violet wasn't really angry. It just wasn't in her nature. I avoided mentioning why I was so late. Had she asked I would have just replied with. 'I had a bad dream.'

"You should be sorry." She began to walk forward.

"We have five minutes. Your going to need to move faster then that." I replied, in a half joke manner.

She quickly turned her head to look at me. "You want me to go faster? Fine then." she snapped before increasing her pace to a run. "Try to keep up slowchoach!" she challenged.

At least she's forgiven me...Though I wonder if it's worth the torture of trying to keep up with her. She is the top of our PE class after all. I ran after her but no matter how hard I tried she was always a few steps ahead of me. "This isn't fair!" I called from behind her.

"Your the one that's made me late." she snapped back in response. "Feel free to walk anytime, but I for one am not going to be late on the first day back!" With that she raced down the street.

She's lucky that's she such a kind and loyal friend otherwise I'd personally rip her to shreds. As we approached the school I began to lag behind. I really need to do some exercise. I guess 2 hours a week doesn't really cut it. "W...Wait Violet...I don't want to go in on my own...!" I called. I was painfully aware of the time as I ran. 8:28! Suddenly my legs seemed to stiffen. I had the strange feeling that someone was watching me. It was most definitely a vampire. But who? Surely a friend would introduce themselves and an enemy attack.

"Nina! What the hell are you doing? Get your arse over here or we'll be late!" she growled from the other side of the street.

I turned to look at her. "Sorry!" I called before crossing the road.

"Geez, your being a real stranger today. First your late, now your just loitering. It's not like you." There was a hint of concern in her voice.

"If I'm strange then your something different altogether." I countered.

"Amazing comeback." she responded in a heavily sarcastic voice, accompanied by an eye roll.

"You both better have a good excuse for being late." barked Mrs.Tyaka.

Violet and I were both terrified of her. And no, it wasn't because she looked like your stereotypical strict teacher with glasses that sat on the end of her noes, black heels that were barely an acceptable height, old or as she said experienced, and let's not forget the black bun. In all honesty she was an excellent language teacher but she couldn't stand late students.

I felt like a deer in headlights. I was a terrible liar in school situations. Put me in front of Misono and I can lie for Britain, but put me in front of an intimidating...Or any teacher for that matter and my mind just goes to mush. Violet and I looked at one another, hoping that one of us would pluck up the courage to speak. Our form tutor towered above us.

"And the answer is?" she growled.

At that point I was ready to leg it out of school and never come back.

"We were busy studying this morning and lost track of time. We're sorry Mrs." Violet piped up but her voice was loud and I felt awkward just listening to it.

I squirmed. We're so dead. Slowly, I shuffled closer to Violet, expecting the roar of an enraged teacher shattering me to pieces. Instead I was met with an almost equally terrifying fate.

Mrs.Tyaka was totally bursting my bubble of personal space but I didn't dare object. Her face was only inches from mine and the way she stared at me over her glasses made me shudder.

"Is this true?" I could feel her hot breath on my face as she spoke.

"Y..." Voice catching in my throat. "Yes..." I felt like a little kid again.

A switch seemed to flick. Her frown became a bright smile. "Good, then you should do excellent in today's math test."

I should have been relived...Should have been. As Violet and I walked over to our table my mind was into a state of panic. M...Maths test? No...There can't be...I didn't revise...I'm screwed...No!

"Nina? Nina!" called Violet.

I turned to look at her. "What?" I responded in utter dismay.

"You should be ecstatic that we survived that. It looks like you would have preferred her killing you." replied Violet in utter confusion.

"Because...I...I didn't know there was a maths test...What am I going to do!" I slowly began to bang my head against the table.

"Ohhhh...This again." commented a girl next to me. She turned to look at Violet. "How long do you think she's going to stay depressed this time?"

Violet began to laugh.

I looked up at the girl next to me. "What are you joking about. Leekla." I snorted.

"Just the fact that you always seem to forget to revise for tests. That's all." she replied while brushing a strand of brown hair behind her ear.

I scowled. "Sorry I'm not a try-hard like you." I spat, sticking my tongue out as I spoke.

"Haha. Calm down. It's just some friendly banter." chuckled Leekla awkwardly.

"Heya guys!" called a black haired girl from the front of the class.

All three of us looked at each other in unison.

"Great. There goes our peace." commented Violet.

"Don't be so negative...We'll only have to listen to Julie's nonstop talking for a month or two." joked Leekla.

Julie walked over to us, a smile plastered across her face.

"What's got you so cheery?" asked Violet.

"Oh nothing, just my new boyfriend, but that doesn't matter." chattered Julie. She looked over to me. "What's got you so down?"

"Well.." I began to reply.

"She forgot about the maths test." interrupted Violet.

Julie chuckled. "Oh right, so she's going to be like this for a while then?"

"Yep." sighed Violet.

I turned to look at Violet, still scowling. "I can talk for myself you know!" I snarled.

"Really? You where pretty quite before." remarked Violet.

"Oh shut up!" I resorted.

"Everyone settle down now!" Mrs.Tyaka's voice echoed through the classroom.

Her voice shut us up almost immediately. We all looked up at the blackboard. I felt my heart sink as she wrote on the blackboard. "Maths Test." I read aloud. Great. Now vampires are the least of my problems.

(Sorry that this chapter was a bit short and fillerish but things will pick up again next time. Let's put it this way; It's the calm before the storm. I hope I'm not boring you guys with this story. The action will definitely pick up in the next chapter. It just doesn't seem to be getting much interest from a voting point of view. Please tell me if you would like more action because I'm open to do whatever you guys want. :) )
