"WHAT IF..."
What if Hedith decided not to forgive Mal?
(This chapter does not automatically be canon in my fanfiction and will only explore the possibility of the topic.)

She believes it. Hedith believes that Mal is repentant of her past and wants to do good. She knows that she indeed wanted to become a better sister to her. She wanted it wholeheartedly. But Hedith's anger and resentment is not something that can be easily swayed. She is a daughter of two evil entities afterall.
"May I speak with her in private?" Hedith asked after the final fight.
She was exhausted and emotionally drained. But she wasn't done yet. Using an immense amount of magic for the first time will not become the excuse for her to not end this right here right now and make it clear for Mal. Everyone stared at the two, oblivious as to why they always have to talk in private. Celia and Evie knows, and it worries them. Ben is confused of where these two stand in each other's circles. As the pirates and the VKs all are just feeling something else is happening between the two of them. But Hedith is not in the mood to entertain such questions and instead used her magic to drag Mal away.
She is not touching the girl.
When they're in a safe distance, Hedith finally decided to release Mal from her binding. As she turns around, the eldest sister wore a worried expression.
"Hedith, I'm so--"
"Save it, Mal," she said, using a spell to lock Mal's mouth together. "I will be doing all the talking here and you better listen and listen good."
The looks in her eyes are unmistakenly that similar to a cobra. Fierce and undaunted. Mal then decided to let her do what she wants. She had done enough to her and being stubborn about it will only make the pile higher.
"Good."
She sighed. Hedith sighed and sat on the side of the fountain found in the castle. The water is cascading down the stone in a beautiful rhythm as the ripples obscures Hedith's reflection.
"You've done enough." She started. "You've shown time and time again why I shouldn't trust you. You think that you can pursuade me into giving in but I'm not going to pretend that things will be magically fixed after a little crying session and a couple of hugs. Guess again, sister."
She snapped her head towards Mal's direction with a glare that burned through Mal's soul. It was cold and soulless like a ghoul.
"It's not. These cuts run deep, Mal and leave scars. I could say that we're good for the sake of dad and I'm starting to like your friends, too. But I can never forgive everything you have done to me. Know that me helping you with my power is something I have to do in order to save both the Isle and Auradon. Know that our interactions from today onwards is considered more as a partnership rather than familial ties. I do not want to be involved with you more than that and know that if dad wants the two of us together, there is nothing more I can do than pretend to like you."
She stood up and walked over to her. Their shoulders almost brushed against each other.
"You tried. But your maltreatment of me overweighs my desire to make amends for a ton."
Mal stood on her spot, never moving, never speaking. She closed her eyes mournfully and fought back the tears that threaten to fall down her cheeks. But they refused to obey her and cascaded down her face and onto the soil beside her feet.
Later that night, Mal turned to Hedith who was casually looking out of the window in Audrey's room as the daughter of the Sleeping Beauty lay asleep on her bed. There was no other option. Neither her or Hedith can use the ember to its full potential. And even with magic, they are too inexperience to do so and may harm Audrey even more.
She had no choice but to disclose her relation to both Hedith and Hades.
Her younger singer gave her a stern look as the others turn to her with an expectant look.
She sighed. "Yes. Mal and I are biological sisters of the same parents. But neither one of us can use the ember to its full power unless dad fully entrusts it to one of us. It's supposed to be mine, but the rite of passage haven't been done yet. Only dad can do it."
"How would we know that he'll agree?" Ben asked.
"His daughters are asking of him," Hedith stated. "He can't say no to us."
"So are the two of you..." Carlos carefully pointed in between the two girls. "Are you two good now?"
"No," the princess of the Underworld said with no reservations. "Being biological sisters does not automatically mean we're in good relationship with each other. I'm sure I do not need to remind you, dog boy."
With that, Carlos backed away and turned to Ben and Mal.
"But I do care about the people in the Isle, more than I make it seem. And if you are not willing to trust us and still continue on with your decision of closing the barrier for good, I will respect it. Uma and I will be taking charge of the place."
Mal wasn't able to directly look at Hedith in the eyes so she shamefully directed her attention to Hedith's forehead.
"I understand," she said and sighed.
After that conversation, Hedith zoned out the rest of the time until their time to leave Auradon comes. She paid no attention to how Mal entrusts her to Uma and how Uma, after bonding with Mal and the other VKs, promised her to take care of their sister.
---
The barrier was torn down. There was no other thoughts inside Hedith's mind but to pick up her dad from their lair. She jumped and ran till she saw him smiling brightly at her. She was overwhelmed. She can now be with her dad outside of the Isle. They can finally return to the Underworld. She can finally be able to have a puppy!
In her mind, she was listing all the things she would want to do after leaving outside of Auradon and of them is learning how to manage a kingdom.
She watched from afar as Hades and Mal interact. There was joy in her heart that she was able to see his dad fulfill his wish to be with Mal, but she was not comfortable with the idea to get along with Mal just because they are biologically related. Mal knows. Hades understands. He wasn't exactly blind-eyed with what neglect his youngest daughter had gone through from her mother and sister. So he just tried to respect Hedith's decisions and not force her to Mal.
Hedith appreciated it.
She doubts that even after several years, the scar in her heart will heal. It was too big to leave just disappear. And it wouldn't.
Seven years later, she had grown accustomed to just being an acquaintance of the Royal Queen and King of Auradon. No one brings up the fact that they are sisters and only merely tied together by a biological blood that has very little importance. In fact, that is how Greek God family tree works.
Although their relationship cannot grown more into being friends, Hedith had not shun away from the other friends she had made along the way. Evie had became a very close one, in fact. Their shared passion for sewing and designing had brought them closer together. She had warmed up to Dizzy and Celia, the three of them being a trio of misfits when together. Audrey is grateful for her and they had became an unlikely pair of friends. Although Hedith never took a liking to her pretty pink choices.
No matter what, seven years later, Hedith became a leader and an independent woman. She became a renowned royal bachelor within many kingdoms. She turned down every suitors that comes her way and the other goddesses even thought that she may take an oath to become a maiden goddess soon. However, a couple of months later after her famous accomplishment of capturing the soul snatchers in Arendelle, her childhood frenemy, Carlos de Vil became her boyfriend.
Years went by, her nephew grew up to be a young prince which she adored dearly, her and Mal's relationship had never progressed. There was never a loving exchange between them and often ons-sided from Mal. Hedith may have opened her heart for everyone, but not to Mal.
It was something that both of the sisters had to live with and accept.
