Night fell over Arendelle and the group decided to set camp. Carlos collected woods as Hedith looked through the maps she acquired from Anna to check their coordinates. Arendelle isn't as advance when it comes to technology, but they do have the best maps she had seen.

"I told you, you should've brought a tent," Dude said after putting a stick down, "You never listen to me."

"I do, but we didn't know we'll be going on a camping trip," Carlos said and stacked all the firewood to ready it for a campfire.

"You and Kristoff go to camping trips all the time here in Arendelle. How can you not learn---"

As Dude nags him on about bringing a tent, Carlos watches Hedith as she examines the map and her phone alternately. He took this as an opportunity to take in how much Hedith had grown. He can't quite grasp that this is the same person who would dump dumpster cans on his head at the age of five. The girl who plotted a whole chain of pranks on him and Jay at the age of twelve that left them with a broken foot.

And here she is. Seriously planning on a job set by her father and actually doing it for the sake of someone else. She really had grown out of her childish mischief.

Carlos picked up Dude and went to Mavros' other side, "What's up? Maybe you'd like to use your magic to light up our campfire?"

Hedith paid him no attention as she did what he suggested and shoots a blue flame towards the set of wood, giving warmth to the campsite.

"Cold," Dude muttered. Carlos sets him down on Mavros' back and he dangled himself in between the hell hound's two heads.

"I'm wondering how the home kingdom looks like."

"Dark and filled with souls," she said and encircled an area in the map before folding it.

"Emo much?"

"I'll take that as a compliment," she stated and sighed, burying herself into her dog's black fur, "Persephone is the only one who gives the Underworld colors besides black, blue and green."

"Is there also adoption in the Underworld? You know you can actually make Persephone your actual mom, right?" Carlos pondered to which Hedith shrugged at.

"I don't know if I'm entitled enough to ask Persephone to be my actual mom," she answered, deciding to entertain Carlos' attempt for a conversation, "I am one of the fruits of dad's adultery."

Carlos realized that it had just gone down right there. A very sore topic.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean--"

"Nah. Don't be. I'm glad to be able to have a loving mother figure in contrast to Maleficent," she said, smiling at the memory she had with Persephone.

The time she taught Hedith how to do a flower crown and they showered Hades with all the flowers that Persephone created while he's in his office being stressed over work. The time that Persephone brought her to meet Artemis and taught her how to use a bow and arrow. Those little time of bonding had always made Hedith feel so much better.

Carlos realized the difference between Hedith and Mal when it comes to coping with the lack of a loving mother figure. Mal, being the older one, resulted to her mother-in-law and the new people that she had met in Auradon. She created many wonderful friendship, but still loved her mother enough to just make her into a gecko to spare her life.

Meanwhile, Hedith is more introverted and prefers lesser friends than her welcoming sister. She's closed off people and hides it behind constant mischief. But when she came into terms with her sister and friends, she started taking things seriously and became more concious of her actions. Persephone was the person that actually makes her feel...free at some point.

"Say, Hedith. How would you describe yourself in one word?" Carlos asked, sitting down on on his side of Mavros.

"I guess... it's...." Hedith paused, "I don't know."

Carlos snorted and puts his hands behind his head, "Seriously?"

Annoyed that Carlos actually made fun of her, Hedith went on to challenge him, "How about you, dog boy? How would you describe yourself in a word?"

"Idiot!" Dude barked and laughed.

"Not funny, Dude!"

"I don't know, Carlos. I think Dude did a bullseye there," she teased, smirking at the boy.

"I am not an idiot. The word you're looking for is---"

"Geek!" Dude laughed and Hedith followed, patting the dog's head, "Oh, that was good!"

"You guys are ganging up on me. That's not cool," Carlos whined.

"You're just so fun to bully," Hedith said and changed position to take a peek at Carlos on Mavros' other side, "Why do you think I prank and tease you a lot more than Jay?"

"Geez, I don't know. Maybe because Jay actually have enough muscle to break you like a stick?" Carlos said, sarcastically, "Although, he wouldn't hurt a girl."

"You boys flatter me with your chivalry, but I am much more powerful that both of you combined," she declared, eyes glowing green as she did so.

"So why?" Carlos asked, picking his head up to meet Hedith's.

"Why what?"

"Why do you always make fun of me?"

"Right, I'm out for the day," Dude said and snuggled beside Mavros, "If you kids are gonna cook up a meal. Leave mine on the side."

There was no more banter between the master and mutt after a few minutes. Dude is really is asleep.

"Oh right, food," Carlos said and went to his backpack. He took out a container with a bunch of meat inside, a pack of marshmallows and salt, "Barbecue and smores?"

"You're ready," Hedith said and lets Carlo do his thing around the campfire.

"When you left for the Underworld, I took a liking on camping. When you're friends with Jay and Gil, you're ought to."

"Don't tell me. I'm friends with the goddess of the Hunt. It's a camping trip every visits," she said and took the stick with meat from Carlos, "Goat's meat?"

"Uma gave it me this morning. She won't take no for an answer."

"I'm not a fan, but oh well."

They roasted the meat over the dancing flames of the campfire, letting nature do its wonders on the carcass.

"How do you became a vet all the way in Arendelle? It's miles away from your clinic," Hedith surprised Carlos by starting the conversation.

"Well, being a villain's kid had its perks when you're starting a career. People's always testing you," he answered, rotating his meat, "My very first patient wasn't even from the capital city. It's from Corona, up North."

"That's farther Arendelle!"

"Yep! And it was a cesarean surgery on a laboring horse and it was a success!" Hedith laughed at the irony of Carlos' claim, "What? It was the truth!"

"When you said you were tested, I was expecting that they'd fake a case of Carbo virus and ask you for a check up. I didn't know it would be a surgery on a horse!" She continued to laugh.

Carlos chuckled, "Laugh all you want. That brought me to fame."

"So I'm guessing all of Auradon knows you?"

"From the North to the South."

"From the East to the West?"

"Lost boys—"

"Lost girls—"

"YOU ALL KNOW YOU'RE THE BEST!"

Both of them laughed after that. The only fits of laughter that the both of them shared for a while.

"A lot of girls must be trying to throw themselves at the great Carlos De Vil. I know for sure that Jay have a tons of Fan Clubs," Hedith said and checked her meat if it's already cooked.

"Nah. I'm not a magazine cover type like Jay. And besides, I'm single by choice," there was something in his voice that Hedith is sharp enough to catch.

"Are you still hang up on Jane?"

"No," he said, truthfully, "Jane and I ended things on good terms and she's already dating Flora's son and I think she's happier with him than me."

"Sounds to me you're jealous," she raised an eyebrow.

"I'm not jealous."

"If you say so. But if it's okay to ask, what happened to you two? You were just fine when I left."

Carlos visibly shifted, "Different careers make different lifestyles. Jane was stuck in Auradon Prep and I travel around Auradon for my patients. We never really see each other quite often."

"I'm not Aphrodite, but I guess you fell out of love?" Carlos nodded at Hedith's claim, "I guess it's not meant to be."

"Wow. Thanks."

"Look! No offense, but I see that you're too alike to actually make it work," Hedith said and smiled when her meat are closed to being perfectly roasted, "Aphrodite said that people with the same personalities don't often stays together. There are cases that they're perfect for one another, there are cases that are just...too alike to even meet."

"And you know this even before meeting your other godly kin?" Carlos asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Not to sound random and weird but when you're crushing on someone, you ought to believe anyone else is not gonna work for them."

Hedith started eating her meat, not wavering at her confession. Carlos, on the other hand, looked like a deer on a headlight while staring at the girl before him. He didn't expected her words at all and it caught him off guard and speechless.
