"So, we're sneaking out? This looks stupid," Hedith whispers as she casually walks over to the older teens who are diligent in tiptoeing behind, "Like, she has Maleficent Scepter. She might be spying on us right now. That will make us look stupid. Incredibly stupid."
Uma and Mal rolled their eyes as Jay, Harry and Carlos look at each other upon the realization that Hedith is correct at that one. Celia grinned as she shakes her head before standing straight.
"Well, she ain't wrong about that one, guys," she commented.
"You know what? Screw this. I'm going in."
"Hedith--" Mal wasn't able to stop her when she yanked the gate open with a loud creak and kicking the door open. The rest of the group quickly followed.
Audrey is one tough cookie. She tricked the gang into thinking she'll be staying there but no. She's nowhere to be found. Chad, Cinderella's wimp of a son, was the only one in the cabin. He was scared out of his wits when they found him locked up in the storage room and took the chance to leave as soon as they freed him.
"What a wimp," Hedith laughed together with Harry. They did a little handshake as the group exits the cabin again.
"Where do you think would Audrey Chick be this time?" Uma asked and Hedith dashed in front of them with her hands extended.
"I'd like to review my contract with you first," she said with a goofy smile and they laughed at her bubbly behavior. She has been like that since Evie's castle and truth be told, it was weird for the VKs and Ben, too, "When we wrap all these mess up, can I also have my own castle? Like this brooding giant with a three headed dog for a guard? I think that sounds cool."
Uma and Evie laughed as Mal just stare at her with a small smile on her face. Ben smiled at the interactions between different people and slung an arm over Mal's shoulder.
"Can you just tell me how all of you got along so well? And you," Ben gestured towards Hedith and she smiled at him innocently, "Not so bad, kid."
"Thanks," Hedith grinned at the king and hugging her sister's arm on her free side, "Mal promised to help me start over again. So I guess that extinguishes the hellfire between us. Plus...she promised to help dad, too."
A visible frowning grew evident of the couple's face and Evie smiled, not noticing it.
"That's great! She promised to let all the kids in the Isle go, too," she said and Carlos agreed with her. Hedith grinned at the two other boys behind them, letting god of Mal's arm.
"So you two better get along with me because you will be able seeing this baby every single day," Hedith pointed to herself which made Jay and Carlos smile in a more friendly way, "And maybe a fewer pranks on you."
"No problem, kid. As long as you don't do that paint ball thing three years ago," Jay said, ruffling Hedith'sa hair, "Do you have any idea how long does it take to remove oil based acrylics on leather?"
"I promise you no promises."
The group laughed except Mal. She continued to witness the fun exchange between her friends and her former rivals. She observe how Hedith's mood changed towards them and how little hostility she holds towards them. This trip had done wonders to her sister and the guilt is eating her up. Carlos and Jay are now able to pat her sister in the shoulder and ruffle her short messy hair. Evie looks adoringly at her like she is her own little sister. Celia was also more relaxed with Hedith despite being a nervous wreck because of their unfriendly past. These interactions with her sisters only feed her guilt even more.
She can't bare it anymore. She knows that sooner or later she have to say it. Risking the possibility to be hated again.
"I've got something to say, everyone," they quiet down as all eyes turned to her, "The kids are not coming out of the Isle."
Confused, their eyebrows creased together. However, unlike them, Hedith glared at her sister and with a careful and cold tone, the Daughter of Hades asked:
"What do you mean?"
Careful, Mal thought and her throat tightens up.
"The program is shut down. Because of the recent villain activities, the barrier will be," she paused, swallowing hard before looking her sister in the eyes, "...closed for good."
Hedith and Mal had a hard stare off as the rest of the gang express their own disappointment and thoughts towards her decision. But Mal doesn't care about their thoughts. The most important thing for her right now is her sister. How she will take all of this.
"So for safety?" Hedith said after Ben's statement, letting out a dry laugh and rolling her eyes. She bit her lower lip as she look down as if in deep thought. Harry laughing in the back is full of sarcasm, Uma is taking a hard time processing but the cogs in her head is moving. Mal saw the deep disappointment in her three friends' expression.
"I knew it was a mistake to trust you," Uma said. That time, Hedith lifted her head and her death-defying eyes are scarier than anything. She stormed towards Mal in furious steps that Evie and Uma have to stop her.
"SO ALL OF THAT WAS A LIE? THAT THING IN THE GARDEN? YOU'RE JUST KIDDING ME?"
"Hedith-"
"I trusted you, Mal! After all that, I trusted you! You have been treating me like a piece of turd all of my life and when I finally thought that's finally over and I decided to lower down my guard, you kept on backstabbing me!"
"Hedith, calm down!" Evie whispered but the girl was too furious to listen.
"Calm down my hind! You promised me, Mal!" Hedith finally broke free of their grasped and charged at Mal, swiftly taking the Amber of Hades from her. Mal gasped and tried grabbing it, "Good luck on your little quest, princess!"
Hedith's hear flame up before throwing the stone into a bird feeder filled with water and her hair was extinguished from its flame. She stormed off as Mal tried to revive the stone. Celia stared at the frustrated Mal and to Hedith. She has to admit that what Mal did was horrible and if it weren't for Hedith, she may be the one who would've threw that stone into the bird feeder. Uma and Harry left after Hedith.
"I never had a sister, Mal," Celia whispered, careful not to say it too loud for the others to hear and realize something was up, "Know that I share the same sentiments as Hedith. You suck up real bad."
With that, Celia ran away, leaving them.
---
Hedith screams on top of her lungs and kicked a stone that flew away. She kept screaming till her throat becomes dry and her eyes release flowing liquids which she didn't care to wipe away. She cried and cried as she collapse to the ground.
"Damn her."
She slowly opened her bag and took out a on-process ragdoll that she and Evie had been creating in secret earlier. The dark blue hair is evident and the purple dress is starting to look beautiful and detailed.
"And to actually think my dreams will come true."
She looked up the sky and saw the two stars that she usually stare at during the night out of her father's lair.
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
Hedith stood up, huffing from her tired throat but she continued on the song. Call her sappy or childish but she believed that. All of that. That the stars can grant your wishes and she wished everyday. Every night. Just for her wish to happened.
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She walks on. Not knowing where to go. She didn't bothered to look for Uma and Harry. She didn't bother looking back to where she came from in the forest. All she know is...she doesn't want to see her sister ever again. Heck, she doesn't want to be her sister anymore.
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing
She stopped. She clutched her Mal ragdoll and her tears kept rolling down, soaking some portions of the doll's face. That's a lie. Despite everything, she still loves her. She loves her sister. An unconditional love that she hates. She hates how much she want to be with her sister even though she is such a douche-bag to her. An unconditional sister love. It hurts so much that she just wants it all to end. Why can't she just fully resent Mal? That's easy...because she dreamed to live with a happy family, with her father and sister.
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
Love is a wonderful thing. But also a dangerous one. It feels so good but it can also hurt you. No matter how much Hedith wants to turn her back on Mal, she can't. Because she still believes.
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
She still believes that the stars can do something about her wish. Her wish for her, her father and her sister can live together, here in Auradon, Happily.
"Aww...what a beautiful song," Hedith shot up and the next thing she knew, she blacked out.
