42. Super-Static-Sonic
Jill POV
She did not get to see Mac any of break, and he was closer to her while she was at home than she was while they were in school. He claimed he was busy every day and so they never got to link up. Maybe he was still upset and how she threw herself on him.
She could not help herself, she would do it again. How did she have a hot boyfriend and she did not get to enjoy all of him.
Maybe she was better off being single again.
She discussed the rules of dating on her radio show that week, about the stages of a relationship and when to move it to the next level
"RULE NUMBER ONE! Guys, step to the plate, ask the girl out on a proper date."
"RULE NUMBER TWO! Girls, step to the plate too, it's okay to ask a guy out."
She received lots of calls and texts during the show agreeing or disagreeing. She played some of them on the air.
"It's so old school to wait for a guy to ask you out. Plus, who really goes on a date?" a female caller said. "We're just hanging out no strings attached."
"I'm not dating, " a guy caller said. "We either kicking it or I'm kicking you to the curb."
Her callers were wild but she was having a ball with them.
"RULE NUMBER ELEVEN! Say what you feel. Why does everyone need to lie or hide what they are feeling? If you're not feeling me, move on, I'm good."
"RULE NUMBER TWELVE! Let's talk about sex. When is it okay to move on to that stage in the relationship?"
Of course, her listeners calling in were all over the place with this one.
"The first date," one caller said.
"When you both are ready."
"Wait for at least three dates before you smash."
"Whenever you making out hot and heavy and it just leads to sex, naturally."
"Never, save yourself for the right person."
She groaned. She was almost twenty-one, she had waited long enough, the wait was over. If Mac was not going to be her first, someone was. She had the rest of the semester to try and have sex.
"What was all of that on the radio today?" Zavrina asked her when she met up with her after the show in the Student Union.
"So you listened? You never listen to my show."
"I had some time this morning so I checked it out. Girl, are you putting all your business on front street like that?" She blew into her coffee cup before taking a sip. "So ummm...you and Mac..."
"Not talking about it with you." She sat next to her soror as Lark walked over to them. "Hey neo!"
"Ha ha!" Lark tossed her bag on the couch across from them and sat, pulling out her phone. "How was your break, hopefully not worse than mine."
"I had lots of fun with Jossie, stuck in boring Bloomington for three weeks with no friends."
"Same. Except in St. Louis," Jill said. " I mean, my mom and brother are cool and all, but I miss y'all bossing me around. Speaking of bossy..." She looked around for her linesister.
"You live with the girl, what's up with her?" Zavrina asked.
"Oh, Imma let her talk to y'all." Jill nodded toward Sherry walking into the Student Union hand in hand with Taj. Of course, Sherry told her, but she had not told the others. Not her business.
"Hey ladies," Sherry cheerfully said while Zavrina and Lark's faces said it all, glaring at Taj who though a handsome boy, was totally different from Donte.
"Hey MAX ladies, looking good as always," Taj greeted them.
"Why do I feel like I am having deja vu," Zavrina mumbled.
Sherry and Taj sat on the sofa opposite her and Zavrina. Taj put his arm around Sherry and she sat there with a smile on her face. Yes, deja vu. This was a similar scene to the first day of class last semester, except take out Taj and insert Donte. She was not knocking her soror for moving on, because the best way to get over one guy was to get under another one.
"Liked your show this morning, Supersonic," Taj stated. "I believe when two people connect, they will know when the time is right to move into the next stage of the relationship. Right, Sher bear?"
"Cute and wise," Sherry gave him a kiss them smiled at them. "What were you ladies discussing?"
"How bad our breaks were. Yours can't be as sucky as mine." After one week with her mother, she wondered if she would move back home after college or hopefully get her own place. She loved her mother, she did, but her parents just did not understand.
"No, not at all. I had fun. My parents took us all on a vacation to Atlanta to visit family there and then my brothers and I stayed with our grandmother for a bit in Gary." Sherry went on. "Of course, then I received several calls for teaching jobs this semester."
"My girl has some teaching interviews set up this week. She's going to barely be on campus if she gets a teaching assistant position."
"Yeah but, I still have a few classes left to take. I will be on campus, teaching part-time at the Junior High School hopefully. And of course, sorority business."
"Speaking of..." Lark stood up. "First Sister Circle of the semester, I'll text you guys about it, but I have to get to class. Bye!"
Lark walked off and Jill smiled. "My little neo doing her thing."
"Your neo?" Zavrina chuckled. "Girl bye. You may not be a neo anymore, but you're still the youngest up in here."
She groaned, her twenty-first birthday was three weeks away. "I didn't forget that. And I'll be the only one here, by myself next year. Thank you guys for that. We should have gone with Anika and not Essence but..." She stopped herself from bringing that up. She was the one that gave Essence the second vote she needed.
"Can we not...talk about her..." Sherry looked down at her hands, then Taj reached over to take her hand.
"Babe, you good?"
"I'm good. Come on, I need to get to class." Sherry jumped up. "I'll talk to you girls later, okay."
Jill watched her friend walk off with her new boyfriend. She turned to Zavrina.
"What do you think about those two?"
"I'd rather hold judgment on that...and you know I have some thoughts, but uh..."
Zavrina stopped talking, looked toward the door at a group of guys walking in, all Alphas. She rolled her eyes at the whole player crew together. Donte's scandalous ass, Kenyon's fine but hoe ass, Cory that hit on every girl that walked by ass, and the rest of those sad excuses for men. She was glad Mac was not in that fraternity.
"I think I need to go to my office, I have some work to do." Zavrina stood and walked away as the guys all made their way over to where she sat.
"Zup cutie!" Cory said sitting beside her, putting his arm around her.
"Eew!" She moved away from him. "I might catch contact cooties from either of y'all. Walking STDs."
"That was uncalled for," Donte said.
"How's your little side hoe? Hope the two of you are very happy! You deserve each other."
"How's Sherry doing?"
"Did you just-"
"Come on Jilly, give my man a break," Kenyon said.
"Of course the player defends the player. Imma just let you know, you fucked up a good thing with my soror. You know Sherry would have done anything for you, and she was loyal to you."
"So loyal she already moved on with Taj?"
How the hell did he already know about that? The boy probably stalked Sherry's social media pages, though Sherry had not posted anything with Taj on it that she saw.
"Byeeeee!" She stood up, looked over at the guys. "Stop breaking girls' hearts, so immature."
That felt good.
She had a few hours before her first class of the day so she made it back to the house. She missed her boy Ivan, they only had one class together this semester and that was a Wednesday evening class. They both already hated it. She texted him to see if he was free.
what u up to?
In class
Wanna hang later?
Can't. Got some work to do. call me later
Well, that went well. She knew he had a crazy full semester. He landed an evening spot on the student radio station plus swimming would start in the Spring. She would see less and less of him, so she would be bored out of her mind.
She decided to text Mac. Their first day of classes was today as well.
How is your day going?
so far so good
I miss u. When can I see u again?
We gonna have to play that by ear. Having some issues here.
O no! What's wrong. Can I help?
I'll figure it out. I gotta go
Now that was strange. Usually, Mac would text with her for hours. They would send each other silly memes and videos, talk about random things all day, even when they were busy with other things. She knew the first day could be hectic for some, but he could still text her. What was up with that?
She needed to drive there again to get to spend some time with him.
A/N: Poor Jill. Can't she see that her boy Mac is trying to ghost her? Well, least she still has Ivan.
