Precious had been sitting in this very seat for nigh on two hours, and was quickly beginning to lose her patience. The waiter had come to take her order three times now, she did not think she could turn him away the fourth time.
She should have left after the first half hour she thought, but It was too late to do so now. It would be a terrible loss if she left now, after investing two hours of her life, two hours she was never going to get back, she reasoned. She noticed she’d begun to draw a few stares from the restaurant’s patrons. She had indeed been stood up, but not in the way that they thought.

Just then, a lady walked in through the doors, bedecked in a body hugging azure dress, on her feet were elegant black stilettoes which added to her already considerable height. Her hair, a deep glossy black was swept back behind her ears, falling straight and showing if her expensive diamond earrings. Instantly she drew the attention of much of the people as she made her way through the crowd. Not surprisingly, as she was quite the sight to behold.  Precious rolled her eyes at the display, not in the least bit impressed.

“You are late,” she said, as the lady took the sit across her.

“I know, I’m sorry,” said the newcomer.

“Sorry doesn’t make you any less late. I’ve been sitting here for ninety three minutes, looking like a jilted bride. That shiny thing on your wrist is more than a fashion piece, It also tells the time you.”

“you know, normal people do not say stuff like that.”

“Stuff like what?” asked precious.

“Ninety three minutes. I had to calculate that in my head. Besides I’m sure you didn’t have anything planned.”

“So that gives you the right to keep me waiting, you set the time for this meeting, the least you could have done was to reschedule. And I did have something planned,” Precious said.

“Oh really? Do tell. Did it involve you and those hideous glasses you insist on wearing reading by yourself, probably something old and by an author whose name is difficult to pronounce.”

“Remarque is not a difficult name to pronounce,” precious countered.

“Yep. Like I said, nothing planned!” The newcomer concluded.
Her name was Tina, and but for the difference in their clothes and hair, the two could not have been told, one from the other. They had begun to draw curious stares, and as the owners of the stares probably guessed, they were indeed sisters, twin sisters. Precious, and Christina, the elder by nine minutes and some seconds.

“So, how was it” Tina asked, as they waited for their food. The waiter had not been long in coming to take their order after Tina arrived.

“How was what?”

“Don’t play dumb with me Precious. How was the date with Eric?”

“Oh, why did you have to bring him up. I had almost succeeded in erasing every trace of that horrid night from my mind,” precious said petulantly.

“Oh,” said her sister. “that bad?”

“It was an epic disaster. Do you close your eyes and just pick them at random, or you make a conscious effort to select the most odious of them?”

“Well, of course it was a disaster,” Tina countered. “when you use such words as that, and speak in that way that you do, how can it not be a disaster. Not everyone is like you precious, not a lot of guys are sesquipeds like you.”

“I think you mean sesquipedalian.”

“Whatever,” Tina said with a wave of her hand.

“Like I was saying, it seems you’ve decided in your mind that guys who aren’t as whip smart as you aren’t worth your time. But honey, there are very few of those around. It is tall dark and handsome, not tall dark and whip smart. If you happen to get a smart one, then that’s a bonus not the actual deal.”

“first of all, I’m not a sesquipedalian, Odious is barely two syllables. Secondly,   your observation does not apply, I just want to be able to have a decent conversation, and not have to restrict myself to discussing mundane and trivial things. Besides that wasn’t what made Eric such a disaster. He was quite the talker, going on and on about himself, even when I tried to stir the conversation, he still found a way to make it about him.” She paused as the waiter placed their order on the table.

“Eventually, I got tired and told him to stop tutting his horn, as it was not a very impressive one. He got this perplexed look on his face and then asked, what horn”

“Oh…that’s bad,” said Tina.

“I’m glad you agree. So Bad that I left after that”

“Tell me you didn’t presh”

“Well, I excused myself  to the bathroom, and didn’t come back.”

“That’s just as bad.”

“That’s by the way. We shall cease to talk about him or that night, as I have again begun the process of eliminating every bit of that night from my memory. Now, what did you call me out here for?” asked Precious.

“Lunch,” said Tina

“Lunch was four hours ago Tina. You better not have hooked me up with another one of those friends you have that I end up never liking.”

“Well, not exactly. I want you to come with me to a friend’s party tomorrow”

“A party? I almost didn’t go to your wedding party. What ever gave you the idea that I’ll be interested in going to a party? Much less one thrown by your friend, you know I don’t like any of your friends.” Precious said.

“Well, the fact that you sit all alone in that apartment of yours and read your eyes out gave me the idea. And do not remind me of that. It was a good thing I didn’t make you my bridesmaid.”

“Actually, you did. It was I who refused you.”

“That’s not the point,  I won’t let you do that thing you always do”

“That could have been better worded, but do tell what this thing I do is”

“Trying to lead me off track, making me forget what I wanted to say”

“To prevaricate”

“I do not care what it’s called, it’s not going to work this time”

“I see...does this friend of yours happen to never have been married, yet has two children who are uterine brothers? And is she called by the very silly name of  Kiki?”

“Don’t be like that presh. She’s a nice person If you get to know her”

“No, I think I’ll pass on that, and why are you still friends with her? you’re married and she’s not”

“Neither are you!” Tina retorted.

“That’s different. I’m your sister, your twin sister. More importantly I’m not a bad influence.”

“Oh, whatever! You have to come, I want you to meet someone, and before you say something smart, he’s a professor so you’ll like him.”

“Professor? I’m sure you do not expect me to believe that,” said Precious.

“whatever! You’re coming, and that’s it. Now, let’s eat.” She declared. “that rhymed,” she added looking pleased with herself.

Precious responded by rolling her eyes.
