IX. SHORT LONG RIDE HOME

Remember when Sirene Black said she wanted to go home so she can relax a bit, well she takes it back, she takes it all back, as she sat in the compartment with Marlene, Alice, Lily and Dorcas she was reminded of how things actually were at home.

Her mother's cold glares, her father's unreasonably high expectations, pureblood mania, comparison with every living and breathing being, Kreacher - their house elf - hating them with every fiber of his being.

Not to mention, the idea of spending Christmas without the girls felt extremely wrong to her, these girls have been more of a family to her than her real blood family.

She watched the scene change through the train window, drowning out the noise of everyone talking and laughing about spending Christmas with their family.

Suddenly, something hit her forehead - making her furrow her brows as she looked around to see Marlene snapping her fingers, "Oi, Black! You okay?"

"Of course" Sirene lied, sitting criss-cross-applesauce on the train seat, "Just a bit distracted, that's all!"

"Yeah, sure..." Marlene said suspiciously narrowing her eyes at her before biting off the head of her chocolate frog, "You know, my parents would love to have you over for Christmas again!"

"Yeah!" Alice said excitedly, turning to look at Sirene, "Lily and I are meeting up at Mar's at Christmas too! It'd be amazing if you could come!"

"Yes, it will be so much fun!" Lily said, her eyes widening with excitement and a huge smile on her face, "I'll bring some muggle games for us to play too!"

"You guys..." Sirene started a disappointed look on her face, "You know I would love to come, but my parents won't allow it"

"I get it!" Dorcas said, with a frown of her own, "My family's like that too! 'Christmas time is family time' they say"

      "Yeah, haha" Sirene said with a fake smile, "Totally!"

      "Haha" Alice, Marlene and Lily chuckled awkwardly together knowing the condition at Sirene's home.

       "I'm gonna go find Mary!" Dorcas said, narrowing her eyes at the girls before getting out of the compartment.

"Hey, if it gets hard there" Marlene says, giving Sirene a sympathetic smile, "My parents and I wouldn't mind you coming over"

Sirene didn't know what else to do but to nod with a smile of her own, surely she'd thought about running away, but she couldn't not when Sirius and Regulus were at home.

"I'll be sure to write you everyday!" Alice said, holding out the Bertie Botts box for Sirene.

"Me too!" Lily said, "Although Petunia might bully me-"

"Ladies" James said with a smirk, sliding next to Lily who rolled her eyes before moving a bit further to the side so they weren't as close, but much to her dismay that made James scooch even closer to her. "Evans" He said, his smirk forming into a genuine smile.

"Piss off, Potter" Lily said shaking her head at his immature behavior.

       "Ladies" Sirius said, much like James with a smirk of his own.

       Sirene threw her apple at him, making him wince it pain before he threw it back at her with much more force, hitting her right in the boob.

      "Ow!" She hissed in pain, clutching her boob a bit and then hitting him with the apple right where the sun doesn't shine.

     "Ow!" Sirius yelled out in pain, falling on to the floor dramatically.

     "Oooh, right in the balls" James said, cringing at the scene in front of him with his hand in front of Lily's eyes, covering them.

     "You little bitch!" Sirius said, getting up and throwing the apple out of the compartment, "Why would you do that?"

     "You hit me right in the boob!"

      "You hit me right in the balls!"

       "Yeah, so now we're even!"

        "No way! Getting hit in the balls is more painful"

        "Shut up!" Every girl in the compartment screamed at Sirius.

         "Aight, you wanna bet?" Sirine said, getting up with a dangerous glare, but she got pushed down by James.

         "Sit down, Si!" James said, giving her a candy in hopes it'll calm her down.

"Don't tell me what to do!"

"Alright-"

"I was gone for 5 minutes, just five" Remus said, standing on the door of the compartment with a look of 'I'm over you fucking idiots'

"Wasn't my fault" both Sirene and Sirius mumbled grumpily, folding their arms and slumping down in their seats.

"Sure, it wasn't" Remus said, rolling his eyes and sitting down next to an upset Sirene who was now aggressively biting the head off of a chocolate frog, he tickled her side a bit making her smile a bit before turning her expression solemn again and punching his arm lightly.

On the other side, James whispered something to Sirius making his mood lighten immediately.

"You guys are children" Lily said, a smile on her face as she looked at the two Blacks.

"Says you" Sirius and Sirene said together again, turning to frown at each other.

They were all distracted by a knock on their compartment, they turned their heads to look at Regulus Black, his grey eyes dull and face monotonous lacking any emotion, though his hands said otherwise, he was playing with his fingers, showing moderate signs of nervousness .

"Reg?" Sirene said, looking at Regulus with furrowed brows, it was unusual of Regulus to even acknowledge the twins at Hogwarts, it was almost like he was embarrassed of them.

"Erm, yeah, I wanted to talk" Regulus said, looking up to Sirene and motioning for her to get outside, "In private?"

"Sure" Sirene said, getting up and avoiding the James's leg he had stretched in order to make her trip, flashing him her middle finger and shutting the door behind her, "What's up?"

"Erm, I have a friend coming over" Regulus said, keeping his face emotionless, though Sirene didn't fail to notice the corner of his lips quirking up just a bit and his dull grey eyes lighting up, "Could you guys not...make a scene this Christmas?"

"Oh, sure!" Sirene said, relaxing a bit at the fact that it wasn't something serious, "I'll tell Sirius to behave and I'll too, but tell me Reg..."

"What?" Regulus asked his sister who had a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Is it a girl?" Sirene said, smirking at her brother's red ears.

"Y-Yes" Regulus said looking down and avoiding his sister's eyes.

"OH MY GOD!" Sirene said, her eyes widening with realisation, "IS IT EMERY?"

"SHH!" Regulus whisper yelled at the girl, clamping her mouth shut with his hand, "Yes, it is, but be quiet about it!"

Sirene licked his hand, making him jerk away and give her a glare to which she responded with a simple shrug.

"Don't worry, Reggie, I promise to not mess up your day with your girlfriend" Sirene said wiggling her eyebrows at the last bit.

"You're insufferable" Regulus said walking away while shaking his head at Sirene's immature behavior.

"Oh please, you love me!" Sirine called out, knowing it'll embarrass him, he doesn't turn to look back though.

Sirene noticed a few third years looking at her, silently judging, she gave them a glare before saying, "Scram!" they all walked away hurriedly, satisfied with the reaction she walked back into the compartment and closed the door behind her.

"What did he want to talk about?" Sirius asked Sirene who was just about to make her way inside tripped and almost fell, staggering in her steps she turned to look at James who gave her an innocent look.

"Fuck you, Potter!" Sirene snarled, brushing the imaginary dust off her clothes and sitting down next to Remus who pat her shoulders in hopes she calms down.

"I didn't even do anything!" James protested, though everyone in the cabin knew he was the one who tripped Sirene.

"Oi, Si! What'd Reg want?" Sirius asked, turning Sirene's attention back to him.

She merely shrugged and then turned away, tuning out the rest of the train ride.
