Chapter Fourteen: Contrast
(Third Person POV)
"They will find me." A bloody and bruised Pietro threatens, his voice weak. Pyro cracks his knuckles with a wicked grin on his face, Pietro's blood almost dripping off of his hands. "You can't win this."
"Oh, but we can." Magneto chuckles, stepping out of the shadows. "We will win because we are not alone. Your precious Riley might be powerful, but we have found someone who can beat her with ease. Unlike my ally, the water wielder is too pure at heart. She cannot take the actions needed."
"You're right. You're right, but that doesn't make her weak. That makes her better than you, ублюдок." Pietro spits at the old man's feet, and suddenly finds himself facing Pyro's fire surrounding him.
"Let's hope they rescue you in time, Maximoff." Pyro cackles loudly, and flames engulf the room.

(Riley's POV)
I open my eyes to find myself surrounded by glass walls. Confused, I stand up and tap on it. The room I am in looks familiar, but my brain can't wrap around it. "You're still in Stark Tower, kiddo." Tony's voice comes through FRIDAY's speakers, sending chills through my spine.
"I'm in one of the prisoner cells, Stark. What in the world is this?" I growl, slamming my fist against the glass to no effect. "Why am I in here?"
"We're heading out to search for Pietro, but you can't come with us."
"To hell I can't!! Tony, let me out of here!" I exclaim, hitting the glass harder than last time. "Tony!"
"I'm sorry, Riley." Finally, his voice is gone, and I'm left screaming and throwing myself against the glass. Nothing helps to break it.
~
(Third Person POV)
"I'm going to take care of her." A woman says, crossing her arms.
"No, it is too dangerous." Magneto objects. "I will not have one of my most powerful allies go in there without knowing everything."
"The Avengers are leaving the tower, Riley is being left behind, that is all I need to know thanks to Mystique's surveillance she had set up."
"Fine. Go." The woman is gone in a cloud of smoke and ash, leaving Magneto alone.
~
(Riley's POV)
For hours, I sit alone in the glass cage. I tried water, my scream, anything; but the glass wouldn't break. I'd stopped trying after the third hour, and instead, sat down to await any news. Hell, it would've been nice for someone to leave my magazines.
"Are you giving up that easy, child?" I jump to my feet at the sound of a woman's voice. It wasn't familiar, and sounds almost like a crackling fire. "I'm very disappointed."
After doing a complete 360 degree spin, I try and find the person to no avail. "Show yourself." I hiss, still turning around.
"What fun would that be?"
"Coward!" I yell, hitting the glass. I'm vulnerable, not able to fight, and I have no backup. "FRIDAY, contact Tony."
"Communications unavailable." FRIDAY replies.
"Try to contact Steve."
"Communication unavailable."
"Anyone?"
"Poor, poor little girl. Your team left you all alone, without any way to contact them." That voice sent panic through my bones. It didn't feel right: nothing about this felt right. I was starting to grow warm, sweat beginning to appear on my forehead.
I whirl around, and see two red handprints on the glass. It's not melting it, but heating everything up. "What are you doing?"
"Sending a message, and you're going to be the delivery girl."
The heat felt suffocating, and when I try to water wield, it only evaporates. "Who are you?"
"Your complete opposite." Then, she steps forward. Her hair is a fiery red, her eyes are brown, and she has a malicious smile on her face. She was right; she was my opposite. Fire to water. "Soon, you will be just like me."
"I will never be like you."
"Hm, I wonder if you know how that speedster of yours screams in pain; or have you never witnessed him being barbecued alive?"
I rush at the glass, but as I touch it, my fingers burn. "Where is he? What did you do to him?" I scream, holding my hand. The heat has moved to the floor, but luckily my fighting boots keep it at bay... For now.
"Knock knock, Riley Jensen. Let me in, and we can become best friends." She hisses, making everything grow hotter. "We can be just like each other."
"Go to hell."
"Oh, honey, I'm already there." In a cloud of black smoke, she's gone. I freeze, and suddenly she's behind me. "Knock knock."
Her hands touch my back, melting the leather suit to my skin. I scream in pain, and fall to my knees. It doesn't end. The fire engulfs my back and left arm. I catch a glimpse of my hand looking as red as blood. Black spots cloud my vision, and my head is pounding.
"Let me in."
I no longer feel my hand, I no longer feel anything. I drift away into darkness, and I don't come back.
~
I wake up groggy and numb, but the light from the room still blinds me. I'm still surrounded by the glass, but this time, blood... my blood... is all over the white floor. The only thing I can hear is someone shouting my name and footsteps running towards me. A cold arm wraps around my waist, and another hand slips underneath my knees. I'm being lifted into the air like a limp rag doll, but for a moment, I'm warm. The voice saying my name wraps around me like a blanket.
As soon as I am laid back down, I can see clearly. I see Bucky. My heart fills with happiness, and the feeling overwhelms me to the point where tears start to flow out my eyes. "Barney." I whisper, trying to sit up. He places a hand on my shoulder, not letting me get up.
"Rest, Jensen. You're badly injured. We have someone coming to help." He tells me. Then, my vision goes black.
~
When I wake up, my back no longer feels numb. There is a dull, ache that travels from my lower back to my left hand. "Wha-what happened?" I say, confused.
"You were burned pretty badly, Ms. Jensen. Your entire back and left arm is marred with the sights of burns." I look around, and find a dark haired man with glasses and lab coat standing beside me. "I don't believe we've met. I've heard a lot about you, savior. I'm Dr. Banner."
"Bruce Banner?" I question, shocked. "The Bruce Banner?"
"That's me." A smile appears on his face, but I remain stunned. "Most people immediately recognize me as the other guy."
"Well, the other guy is awesome, but you do a lot to help as Bruce too." I chuckle weakly, before being thrown into a coughing fit. He hands me a glass of water, and I drink every last drop. "What happened?"
"Someone broke into the tower while you were left here, and attacked you. Do you remember that?"
"Yes."
"Do you feel any pain?"
"On my back, but just a sting."
"Well, the healing process has begun, but if you want to finish it and completely heal, it is up to you."
"Can I see it?"
Immediately, Banner brings up pictures of my back and arm. I look down at my left hand, and clearly see the burns. My back is worse, however. "We don't know who it was. We can only assume one of Magneto's friends."
"I'd never seen her before." I tell him, shaking my head. "I can heal my back. It will be harder to heal my hand since I use both for the process, but I can try."
Before I can stand up to get to work, Steve barges through the door with a determined look on his face. A teenage boy follows behind him, making me weary. "Her name is Isobel Hunt." He growls, crossing his arms.
I look to the boy for an explanation, and my mouth drops open when he says, "And I'm her son."
