Chapter Fifteen: The Son

AN: Hello there! I'm trying harder to upload more frequently, and to have longer chapters when I do upload. So sorry if some of you are eagerly anticipating the next chapter and it feels like forever! Senior year is a killer... :( Well, here goes another adventure with Riley!

PS: Go check out this website! It's called ambient-mixer.com and I just wrote this while listening to the sounds of Sam and Dean in the Impala. Another one of my favorites that's great to listen to when reading this is http://superhero.ambient-mixer.com/steve-s-room and it really feels like you're sitting in Steve Roger's bedroom with him having a lazy afternoon. Hope you enjoy!

(Riley's POV)

My eyes cut to Steve, and at the sight of his angry demeanor not being towards the boy, I relax. "If you're Isobel's son, then why are you here?" I question, looking the boy up and down. He doesn't seem hostile, but then again, he is exactly like the woman I met earlier.

The boy's attention moves from his feet to my presence, and gives me a confused look. "To talk about my mother. Why else would I be here?" He replies. "I want to help you find her."

I stand up and motion for Steve to follow me out of the room. Once we are out of earshot, I say, "If we find Isobel, we most likely find Pietro." The thought of having my speedster back is enough to jumpstart my heart into a hopeful pace.

"That's why I brought him here. He can tell us everything he knows."

Suddenly, the boy pokes his head out the door with a frown. "Unfortunately, I know nothing about my mother's whereabouts. That's where I thought you would be able to fill in the blanks for me, not the other way around." He explains, and I mentally smack myself.

"So you know nothing that can help us find her?" Steve demands, crossing his arms.

"Nada."

"Well, shit Steve. You brought someone into this building, thinking he could help, and now he's no good." I growl, and start to walk away. "Let me know if you pull your head out of your ass."

I don't bother to turn around and see Steve's face. Most likely, he's frowning, and that will make me feel guilty about what I said. Instead, I just keep walking until I reach the training room. Maybe punching something will help me take my anger out on something else.

"I heard about your meltdown, kid." I jump when I realize someone else is in the room. When I look to my left, I see Logan approaching me, fully suited up. "That don't excuse the others for the decision of locking you up."

"If you didn't agree, why didn't you do something about it?" I inquire, crossing my arms. "Why didn't you let me out?"

"Not my team, not my decisions." He answers. I roll my eyes and walk away. "If you want to do something about it, sparring won't help."

I keep walking towards the punching bags, and counter, "What do you think I should do? Steal a jet and go search for Magneto and this Isobel woman myself?" When I reach the bags, I see Logan smiling slightly. "What's got you so smug?"

"Are you sure you're not a telepath?" He jokes, but when it flies over my head, he sighs. "It's not stealing if you're an Avenger, bub."

Once what he's suggesting registers in my head, suddenly my gears are turning and I'm thinking of a thousand different ways this could work out. "I couldn't go alone." I tell him.

"Why do you think I'm here?"

"Simple rescue mission. In and out, undetected."

"Exactly."

I look around to make sure I didn't miss anyone else's presence, and nod firmly. "Wheels up in 20. You're flying, caveman." Logan shakes his head at the weak nickname, and I shrug. "I tried."

Quickly, I go to my room and suit up, praying that no one comes to my door. I haven't seen Wanda since Pietro got taken, and while I'm worried, I know she has Vision to take care of her. Once I am prepared, I leave my room quietly and make my way to the elevators.

Suddenly, I'm stumbling back from the force of being ran into. "I am so sorry." I roll my eyes at the apology from the boy Steve brought earlier, and walk around him. "Where are you going?"

"None of your business, kid."

"My name is Gabriel, and I'm not a kid." The boys huffs, keeping pace with me. I turn a sharp corner, hoping to lose him along the way. "Now, where are you going."

I stop in the middle of the hall, and turn to face him. "Listen, kid. You have no need to be here, and you definitely don't need to be following me like a lost puppy dog." I growl, taking a step towards him. "Your mother almost killed me last night. If it wasn't for Dr. Banner, I wouldn't be walking right now. I hope to God you are nothing like her, but I can't take the chance that you are. So, go find Steve, and have him take you home."

As I start to walk away, I hear him say, "I tried to warn you." Immediately, I pivot and stare him down. "Before Mystique came here I tried to warn you."

"Excuse me?"

"I tried to warn you that it was Steve's friend. Mystique was in disguised, and I wanted to warn you. My mother decided to use my gifts to unnerve you, make you scared, but I added in what I could without seeming suspicious." Gabriel explains, his hands fidgeting in front of him. "Then, your dream got out of control and you woke up. I didn't know if I did anything to help or not."

"The dream that I had that night, that was you?" I question, and he nods in answer. "You can control dreams? That's... fantastic?"

"I can place thoughts into someone's dream, but sometimes it takes its own path and suddenly it's out of my hands. If the person starts to become scared, I can make them feel safe again." Gabriel tells me, closing his eyes. When he opens them, his brown irises have turned purple. I take a step back in shock, making him chuckle. "No one is sleeping near me, so I can't do anything. My power doesn't stretch very far."

I take a moment to register everything he's saying, before placing a hand on his shoulder. "I know how your mother feels about the Avengers, but you went against her to try and help us before we even knew you. Thank you, Gabriel."

"If you're going on a rescue mission, I can help."

(Pietro's POV)

"Pietro, you have to stay strong for me. Don't let them break you. I'm going to find you, and when I do, I am never going to let you out of my sight again."

Riley stands in front of me, her blond hair in waves and wearing a beautiful dress. We're standing on the roof of Avenger's Tower, just like our first date. "Why are we here?"

"I missed our dancing, speedy." She says softly, taking my hand and guiding me to dance. We move slowly, staring at each other quietly. "When I find you, the first thing I am going to do when you are well again is throw a party, and we can dance until our feet are sore."

"Роза, I love you."

"I love you too, Pietro. You need to wake up now. I will see you soon."

-

A hot fire surrounds me, and I'm woken from my sleep immediately. I expect Pyro, but instead I see a red haired woman standing beyond the bars. "Who the hell are you?" I demand, weakly getting to my feet. She doesn't say anything, only slides a small tablet towards me. I pick it up and see Riley in a glass cage. "What is this?"

"Your hero Avengers locked your girl in a cage. It seems she went a little crazy when you left." The woman grins, and it sends chills down my spine. I watch as Riley tries to break free; screaming, hitting the glass, but nothing happens. "Don't worry, I set her free."

I glance at the woman before watching the screen again. Riley is looking around, talking to someone who isn't there. "What's going on, Riley?" I whisper, but before I can wonder what's happening to her, the woman in front of me appears in the video, and burns Riley. "No!"

I can only watch as my Riley crumples to the ground, her back and arm marred from the flames. Once the woman leaves, she doesn't move. "Your weak little girlfriend won't be coming for you. It'll be impossible." The woman laughs, crossing her arms.

Suddenly, the tablet is crushed in my eyes, and tears fill my eyes. "я убью тебя (I'll kill you)." I growl, fists clenched. I throw the remains of the technology at the bars, before turning away from her.

"I'm guessing that's a threat. Sadly, you'll never get the chance. Once Magneto has what he wants, he'll kill you."

-

(Riley's POV)

I sit co-pilot and bite my nails nervously as Wolverine flies us to the location Gabriel gave us. "How you doing back there?" I holler to the back of the jet. "Getting sick yet?"

"It might be my first time flying, but the thought of puking makes me not want to puke." Gabriel replies, and I turn to see his knuckles white and eyes closed as he tries to relax. If only Wanda was here to calm the boy.

I didn't have the time to inform Wanda of our plans, and ultimately I will come to regret that decision if this doesn't work. For once, I should've thought this through. "We'll get your boy, Siren. Don'tcha worry." Wolverine comforts me, but it doesn't help much.

I see the destroyed buildings in the distance, I unbuckle my seatbelt to go to the back. "Gabriel, are you ready to search for anyone sleeping?" I ask, and he nods but doesn't say anything. "Logan's going to land the plane so it's less likely for them to know we're here. That means walking a little."

"I've got long legs, I'll be fine. Better than flying, eh?" Gabriel looks over and offers me a small smile, which I return. He closes his eyes once again, and then they've turned purple. "If anyone in this abandoned city is asleep, I'll find them."

Wolverine lands the plane, and the three of us walk off and onto the cracked concrete. The town looks scary, almost like a scene from a zombie show. Part of me half expects the undead to come walking out of one of the buildings. Instead, no one shows... thankfully.

Suddenly, Gabriel stops in place and falls to his knees. "Gabriel?" I question, turning to face him. He doesn't answer, and when I notice his face going white, I kneel in front of him. "Gabriel?"

Gabriel's lips part slightly, and they turn pale. Wolverine comes closer with a confused look on his face. "What's wrong with him?" He wonders, crossing his arms. Gabriel's eyes lose their purple glow, and become a pale shade instead of the bright color.

"Gabriel? Gabriel, answer me." I take his face in my hands, and almost pull away from the cold. The fact that if something is wrong with him, I can't heal it if it's not physical. I can't heal it. "Gabriel. Gabriel, please. Get out of this trance."

Just as I pull back my hand to smack him out of it, his eyes return to their normal purple and he's grinning widely. "Found 'em!" He stands up quickly, and takes off in a dead sprint towards one of the many abandoned buildings. Wolverine and I keep his pace, me not so easily as the X-Man next to me. Once we pass through the doors, my jaw drops. The rubble I expected actually becomes a luxurious foyer. "Follow me." Gabriel says, walking towards a plain wall. He reaches out and pushes one of the patterned flowers on it, and the a door opens.

"Who's head did you get into, bub?" Logan inquires, looking around.

"Mystiques." Gabriel playfully wiggles his eyebrows, before quietly making his way down the steps. "It was scary, but she got what she deserved."

"A knife in the back?" I grumble, but the boy looks at me shocked.

"A family that loves her."

Before I can say anything to justify my opinion, Wolverine and Gabriel are already past me and walking on. I huff and follow, keeping my eyes open for a threat. It's not until we reach the cages that my stomach churns and I lose my train of thought.

The bars are rusted bad enough they look like they're covered in blood. Or maybe they are. We pass a few occupied cells, but when I come across a girl with two blades jutting from her hands, I finally block everything out. Pietro. Pietro. Pietro. I am here to save Pietro. We continue to walk, until it seems like the hallway never ends. Logan sniffs loudly, and nods. "He's close."

"How do you know?" I look around quickly at the cages, but most are empty by this point. When I turn to Logan, he's sniffing in my direction.

"His scent is all over you." He explains, and I blush. Perks of sharing a bed with a man who actually showers. "Hey, kid, I shower every damn day."

Well. I said that out loud.

"Who's there?" A voice growls, and I run to the source. Once I get there, my heart beats wildly. My Pietro. "Get the hell away, Mystique."

"It's me, my love. Riley." I smile softly, and pick the lock quickly using the skills Natasha taught me forever ago. "I'm here for you."

"Prove it to me." He stands, legs wobbling slightly. Of course Mystique would play tricks on him. That...

"When we get home, I promise you that we will recreate our first kiss. I'll even buy the lights and make sure Tony closes of the roof. I won't lose my mind this time." I wink, and immediately a grin breaks across his face, followed by silent tears. Dropping to his knees, I walk forward as he put puts his head on my stomach and wraps his arms around my waist.

"Роза. My sweet Роза." He whispers, over and over again. I just run my fingers through his hair, before helping him to stand up. "I love you.

"I love you too." I reply, and then I place a kiss on his lips. "We need to leave, now."

When I turn to the door, I see Logan has the girl I noticed earlier. My mind doesn't make the connection until Logan's claws protrude from his knuckles, and hers do the same. I watch as many prisoners run by Pietro's confinement, and Gabriel is showing them a safe way to get out. "Who's the kid?" Pietro asks, looking to the dreamweaver. "New recruit?"

"Something like that."

I thought we were home free. We got Pietro and the prisoners out, no one detected us, but then I smelled smoke. Logan and I gave each other exasperated looks before turning around. "Leaving so soon? I was hoping we could have some barbecue." Isobel says sweetly, making my blood boil. "Just me and you, water-wielder. No one else."

I slide Pietro's arm from my shoulder, and move Logan to take his place. "You want me, you got me." I take a step away from my group, staring her down. "Just let them go."

"Riley, no." Pietro argues, trying to take a step forward. Logan holds him back, but then the girl takes his place. "What?"

"Get him and the others out of here. I trust you, kid." Logan tells his friend, and when she hesitates, he growls at her. "Go, Laura."

Pietro struggles against Laura, but like Wolverine, she's too strong. I give him sorry look and tell him I love him, before facing Isobel once again. "Do you want me to be just like you, Isobel?" I inquire, taking a step closer. "Dark, evil, full of rage?"

"Honey, all I want to do is make people feel what I feel." She tells me, grinning. "If that includes you, then yay for me. If not, then boo for you. It's that simple."

"Well, I guess it will be boo for me."

As soon as I say that, fire erupts around me and Wolverine, but I quickly turn it into steam with water from the pipes overhead. She then flares her hand out, sending a fireball straight towards Wolverine. He jumps out and rolls out of the way, bringing Isabel's attention back to me. I bring a wave to freeze in front of me, and as she melts it, I READY an ice spear.

Once the ice is melted, I launch the spear in her direction, but it's met with yet another fireball. What she doesn't know, is that I had more water coming from the floor. It hits her hard, knocking her back and forming into ice on her feet.

"What's going on here?" Someone shouts, and I look towards the steps. One of Magneto's men, Avalanche, stands in shock. I start to move backwards as he registers who I am, and starts to bring down the roof.

"Wolverine, it's time to go!" I yell, turning and running. Wolverine doesn't follow. "Wolverine!"

"Mom. Stop this."

I whirl around and find Gabriel standing where I was. "My son, don't interfere with what you don't understand." Isabel snarls, taking a step towards him. I do the same.

"If that's how it's going to be, then fine. I'm making my decision." Gabriel sighs, before his eyes glow purple again. "I'm sorry, Isobel."

Mystique comes running down the steps, her eyes purple instead of yellow, and tackles Isobel. "You-"

I don't give myself time to pay attention to them. I immediately grab ahold of Gabriel's shirt and yank on it to force him to follow. "Let's go, now!" I tell him, and luckily he obliges.

Once we're finally out of the tunnel, it collapses, no doubt Avalanche's doing. "I wanted her to change." Gabriel shrugs, and brushes off his shirt. "I didn't have hope."

I grab a fistful of his shirt and bring him closer. Wolverine and Laura take small step forward. "You're an idiot! What were you thinking? What if she had killed you, or if Avalanche did? Did you think about the consequences?" I exclaim angrily, and as Gabriel starts to look ashamed, I pull him into a hug. "Don't ever do that again."

Pietro is smiling at me from behind Gabriel. I give him a wink, before pulling away from the teenager and going to my boyfriend. "Hello, my love." Pietro grins, wrapping his arms around me. "Seems like I was the damsel in distress this time."

I almost elbow him for his sarcasm, but decide against it. For now. "Let's go home." I whisper, and kiss him. Wolverine and Laura pilot the plane, because on the way home, I fall asleep on Pietro's shoulder.

It was the best sleep I'd had since he was taken.

AN: Yayyyyyy, Pietro is saved! What did you guys think of Gabriel, and his newfound friendship with Riley?
When I started the idea of Siren's Song, I never thought it would go in the direction it had. But once the story takes control, it almost writes itself. I hope you all enjoyed this update, and I also hope that I can get to the next chapter quickly. Thank you for reading!
