Chapter 15

Shin hadn't expected to see Reko and Nao so soon after the former's special performance, yet not even a day had passed before they were back at the store. Normally, the surprise he felt from seeing one of his friends come in often came with feelings of trepidation and dread- but for the first time, he actually felt glad for a change. "Took you guys long enough," He waved to them in a casual manner. Despite the sarcastic tone of his voice, there was still a smile on his face. "Congrats."

"Shut the hell up," With one arm wrapped around her girlfriend's shoulders, Reko lifted up her other arm into the air, presenting her middle finger to Shin in all of its glory. "I don't wanna hear it from you of all people."

"I-I was actually trying to be nice for once! What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Shin's smile fell out of pure confusion. Nao chuckled from his response. "Not you too!" he cried out in desperation. "I thought you were on my side, Nao!"

Reko shoved her hand in her pocket. "Look, I didn't come here for you to try and get my girlfriend to side with you."

The joy Shin felt from earlier was dissipating as fast as it had appeared. "Then what the hell did you come here for?! To rub it in that you're not single but I am?!"

"Oh, that's actually a good idea. I'll use that next time for sure." Shin grumbled under his breath- he just had to go and make things worse for himself, didn't he? "Lucky for you, we're not here for that. We're here just to fuck with you, that's all." Reko grinned viciously as Nao held up a rather large speaker with a few microphones sitting atop it. (How was she holding that with one hand?! Or better yet, how did it take him this long to notice such a fat speaker?!)

"Oh my god." Shin's shoulders slouched. Why did he actually feel happy for these two? Now Nao would be in on all of Reko's evil plots too. Well actually, she still was even before they were dating, so it's not as if it mattered whether they were dating or not. "What the hell are you two planning?"

"If you tell me where the hell I can find an outlet in here then maybe I'll answer you." Reko hummed, pulling her arm from off of Nao's shoulders and crossing her arms over her chest.

Shin mirrored Reko's body language, tilting his chin up in disdain. "Hell no!" He hissed.

His stance didn't seem to phase Reko nor Nao in the slightest, the latter of which tapped the former's shoulder. "Actually, I know where an outlet is!"

"This is why I love you," Taking the speaker from Nao's hands, Reko leaned to the side and gave the art student a quick peck on the forehead, to which she blushed brightly and averted her gaze. "Now, show me where that sucker's at!"

Shin was left to wonder what those two could possibly be up to, watching in silence as they didn't stray too far from where he was stationed. They were obviously going to be playing something on there, but the question was what? He'd already been rickrolled, and just the other day he had an entire concert being blasted from the store's speakers, so what could possibly be worse than that?

With Reko and Nao in charge, there were probably a lot of things that could be worse than that. As soon as that thought entered his mind, the two girls plugged in the speaker, and when it flickered to life, the microphones immediately triggered a feedback loop, the sudden, overly loud high-pitched noise making Shin yelp out in surprise. Reko quickly swiped the microphones away from the speaker, holding them as far away from the box as possible. "Well, on the bright side," Nao chimed in, taking one of the microphones from Reko's hand. "I'm fairly sure that means its working, right."

"Hell yeah it does!" Reko exclaimed, holding the mic up. Her yell was just a little too loud, and once again the microphone created yet another shrill feedback loop which made all three of them wince. She quickly cupped her hand over the mic, silencing the bothersome noise in an instant. "Maybe it works just a little too well."

From out of nowhere, Shin was struck with an epiphany. "Oh, no," The words were out of his mouth before he had a chance to think of what he was going to say; but judging from the expectant gazes of the two girls that were now directed at him, it looked as if there was no going back now. "Please don't tell me you're gonna do that for the entire time."

Judging from the way Nao's expression fell, she didn't seem too thrilled with the idea either. "What? Of course not! Even that's too far."

Reko whistled in a faux innocuous fashion, her brown eyes darting to and fro as she moved her hands behind her back.

Nao promptly turned to face her girlfriend, resting her free hand atop her hip. "Reko!" She pouted. "Don't tell me you were actually gonna do that?"

"Maybe." Before Nao could say anything else, the famous singer brought a finger to her girlfriend's lips in a shushing motion. "Don't worry about it babe." She hummed, sliding her finger down to a spot just beneath Nao's chin. In a swift motion, Reko pressed her knuckle against her skin and pulled her head up. "Besides, I only chose not to do it because you're here too." She hummed, a smile lighting up her face from the immense joy she felt watching her girlfriend get flustered from the motion.

Shin would be lying if he said he didn't find the two of them to be cute together. The only problem was that he was a gay guy with no patience left who had just been indirectly insulted. "I'm not sure whether I should be grateful that Nao saved my ears or be upset knowing that you were planning to actually try and kill me."

"Shut the hell up!" Reko barked. "We're trying to have a moment here."

For the first time in a while, the convenience store worker actually had a little bit of fight left within him. "'Moment' my ass!" He retorted. "I literally work here, and have been trying to have my own moment for, like, two months now!"

Reko whipped her head away from Nao, shooting Shin a glare so intense that he nearly pissed himself.

"A-anyways!" Shin yelped, backing out like the pussy he was. "What are you guys gonna do now that you have the mic set up?" He asked, gulping nervously as he felt himself shrink under Reko's fierce stare.

The rocker held her glare for a few moments, before it quickly vanished into her neutral expression. "Oh, right," She hummed, as if she hadn't nearly killed Shin six times over with just her eyes. "I guess we can tell you now that we're ready." Bringing the mic close enough so that she could be heard loud and clear (but not close enough to create even more feedback), Reko cleared her throat. Suddenly, she pulled it just a little bit away from her. "LET'S GO LESBIANS!"

...What?

Ding!

Shin had absolutely no time to process what she had said- in the blink of an eye, the gates to his own personal hell had opened once more, and storming in like a tidal wave came a horde of wild lesbians, flooding the place in an instant.

There were no words that could accurately describe just how Shin had felt in that very moment. He had never seen anything like it before. How on earth did they even manage to pull off such a feat? One second, it was just Nao and Reko, and the next there were lesbians as far as the eye could see.

But, luckily for Shin, his eyes couldn't even see that far, and once he snapped out of his momentary stupor, he was quick to realize that half of the lesbians in question weren't even lesbians. "Oh hell no! I know damn well you're not a lesbian, you literally have a boyfriend!"

"Did you just assume Joe's gender?" Ryoko held a hand up to her chest in offence.

"Rude as hell!" Sara pointed an accusatory finger in Shin's direction. "We, as lesbians, must give this poor little meow meow his due punishment!"

"Can we stop saying hell first?" Nao squeaked. "I thought it was just my imagination, but it seems like we're all saying it. Which is fine, normally, but now there's a child here." She proceeded to gesture toward the child in question.

"Hey!" Kanna protested, adjusting the bucket on her hat. "I'm not a child! I'm 14! And I'll have you know that I can swear!"

"You can?" Nao asked. "Should I be concerned?"

"If anything, now I'm just curious." Reko approached Kanna, holding the microphone toward the middle schooler. "Go ahead and prove it, Kanna."

Kanna curled up her fists, nodding her head enthusiastically. "Fuck!"

All the lesbians, including Shin, collectively gasped. "Anzu what the hell?!" The cashier exclaimed, causing everyone to turn their attention to the girl in question.

"Oh, come on!" The clown cried out in exasperation, throwing her hands up into the air. "I literally just got here, why am I already getting in trouble?! And why do you assume it's me?!"

Shin shrugged. "Don't know," He admitted in earnest. "I just don't know who else it would be. You seem the most likely."

"Well I know exactly who it is!" Anzu exclaimed. "It's Kugie!"

"Hey!" Kugie elbowed her girlfriend angrily. "Now why in the world would you throw me under the bus like that?!"

"I'm sorry!" Anzu wailed, rubbing her arm on the spot where Kugie had elbowed her. "It was either you or me!"

Kugie opened her mouth to protest, only to bring herself to a pause. After a moment or so, she finally relented, lowering her head slightly and letting out a deep breath. "I can't even be mad at you, Anzu. Because you're right."

"Wait, so you taught Kanna how to curse?" Sara asked in disbelief.

Kugie nodded in affirmation. "I stubbed my toe, and it just sorta came out. Now it's her favorite word." She muttered with a pensive expression.

"Fuck!" Kanna cheered, as if to prove Kugie's statement.

"A tough situation indeed." Ryoko pursed her lips, rubbing her chin and nodding in agreement. "I understand how you feel. While I was babysitting Gin once, I ended up teaching them about the "bottom boy" phrase."

"Now that's a plot twist," Anzu mumbled in awe.

"Your mom's a plot twist." Reko mumbled. Somehow, it got picked up by the mic in her hands.

"Reko, dear, what the hell?" Nao gave her girlfriend a confused look.

Shin, paying no attention to the peanut gallery, slammed his hands on the counter. "So it was you who taught him that!" He shrieked. "Do you know how humiliating it was to have a twelve year old call me a 'bottom boy' in front of a line of random people?!"

Kugie snorted. "Not as embarrassing as the tantrum you're throwing right now."

Shin's cheeks flushed red from anger, and despite everything he wanted to say, he clenched his teeth together and kept it inside. As much as he hated to admit it, Kugie did make a point. "You know what?" Exhaling slowly through his nose, Shin slid his hands off of the counter. "You're right. Let's talk about something else, then."

All of the lesbians (even the fakers) fell silent in an instant. Did Shin really just handle a stressful situation like a mentally stable person? None of his usual lashing out? None of them had expected him to actually still have some decency and pride left over after the numerous times they had trounced on it.

The first person to break the silence was Kanna. "Um, can we get started?" She asked, turning to Reko. "There's a song I wanted to sing."

"Oh!" Reko blinked in surprise, fishing her phone out of her pocket. "I nearly forgot why we were even here in the first place. Here," The rockstar handed her phone and the microphone to the green-haired girl. "It's bluetooth, so you can play whatever you want from youtube."

"Thank you!" Kanna wasted no time searching up a song, the loud sound effects of her pushing the phone's on screen keyboard filling the awkward silence that filled the air. It stopped after a few seconds, and a moment or so later, the all too familiar 80's music from the last time Shin had seen Kanna started filling the room.

"NO!" Shin slammed his head on the counter in agony. And just like that, the random switch to a mature persona had been thrown out the window. "We're not doing this again! No more Rick-Rolling! Please...!" With each word he cried out his voice grew weaker and weaker. He slowly lifted his head up, peering at Kanna with a pleading face, tears welling up in his teal eyes.

Kanna took pity on him immediately, pausing the music instantly. "O-Okay. Someone else can go." She offered, holding both the phone and the mic up for anyone who was willing to go in her place.

"Oh! I want to go!" Sara's face lit up in excitement as she took the mic from Kanna's open hand. She whirled around to Ryoko, her purple eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Ryoko, will you do a duet with me?" She asked, shoving the microphone into her friend's hands and clasping her own hands around hers, pressing them against the mic.

"Ah- um, I don't know, Sara..." Ryoko averted her gaze, her expression faltering. "I'm not too good at singing in public."

"But you'll be singing with me! It'll be fun, I promise!" Sara assured her friend, offering her a kind smile. "Besides, we're with a bunch lesbians who won't judge us! Oh, and bottom boy too, but it's not like he's important or anything."

"Hey!"

"And your singing is really pretty too." Sara added, clutching Ryoko's hands tighter. "I think you should go for it! Please...?"

Ryoko gulped nervously. "Well, if you say so, then..." She took a deep breath, looking back up and nodding her head. "Yeah! I'll do it!" She chirped, quickly matching Sara's enthusiasm.

"Woohoo!" Sara cheered, letting go of Ryoko's hands and getting the other mic from Nao and the phone from Kanna. "Let the Karaoke Night commence!"

"Wait," Shin finally lifted his head from off of the counter. "So this is it?" He asked. "You guys are just gonna sing karaoke?"

"You just now realized that we're doing karaoke?" Kugie asked, raising a brow in concern.

"And I thought I was dumb..." Anzu whispered to her girlfriend, to which the brunette laughed.

"No!" Shin retorted. "I knew you guys were doing karaoke, I'm not that dumb! But... I thought you guys were gonna do more than just that?"

"Oh, that's the fun part." Reko crossed her arms over her chest, leaning her back against one of the aisles. "That's what we're all doing tonight. Singing."

Shin furrowed his brow in thought. There had to be something else to it. All they were doing was singing, surely it couldn't be that simple.

It took him a minute, but when he finally figured it out, he felt the wind get knocked out of his lungs. "Oh, no, no, no, I am not singing with you guys."

"Too bad!" Nao chirped. "You don't have a choice!"

Shin hesitated. Such a sweet demeanor paired with those intimidating words didn't sit right with him at all. When Nao wanted to be, she could easily be a force to be reckoned with. But singing was one thing Shin was keen on not doing, so he wasn't gonna back down just yet. "Actually, I-"

Reko shot him another glare.

Shin had definitely pissed himself at least a little this time around. "Okay! Singing sounds great! Yay! Woo... hoo..." His voice trailed off as the realization weighed heavier and heavier upon him with each passing second. Tonight was most definitely going to be a long night.
