The Lady of the Lake

Now Lancelot dismissed the men
From court to room in keep their send.
No longer bearing semblance sure
That death of men his ills would cure.

From throne he rose from court he stole
To place where man might think his goal.
Yet side his seat the lady set
And blinded eyes a glare beset...

Now man beside a lake did dwell
To think on thing he learned most fell
How child he sired Elaine had kept
From hand of man with secret deft.

Did Arthur also know his sire
When sending boy on quest so dire.
Was child yet bid to court to come
In hopes that father killed his son?

And anger grew in heart at thought
That such a plan would Arthur wrought.
His face with darkest rage then grew
As man now planned a way to slew.

Then sudden out from lake their came
In brightest light a fairy dame.
The lady first who sword had gave
To Uther Back when man did claim

The many holds in Britains land
When man with mighty sword did stand.
In fairest white the lady stood
Her manner great and glory good

" My son what troubles mind so great
You set and think of warring fate
But tell you mother thing you want
What troubles heart of man do haunt.

Now turning man to dame now spoke
In hopes someway his hurt be broke.
"A son I sired in Arthur's court
When still I rode in feudal sport

As Kings own vassal bearing great
His banner high defying fate
By winning many joust with skill
When all my foes I wracked and stilled.

Now man has sent the boy to court
In hopes my peace his will could thwart
By having man to slay his child
A scheme that's wrought with hopes so vile."

But sudden words of fairy dame
Did speak and silence loud did claim
"My son you thirst to slay a man
Who bore no I'll intent or plan

Your mind by lust and greed is warped
To think of ways to Arthur thwart."
Then Lancelot in fury rose
No caring much for dames own woes.

But still the fairy woman pressed
To try and work at kings behest.
"My child no greater knight yet stood
In all the world as great or good

To righteous king you yielded self
And fought for king and countries wealth
Now traitor's word that men will speak
In future times when tale they ink.

Before the time when civil war
The bond between you both had tore
You ways were already fell and broke
Your son is proof of thing I spoke

Now turn aside from thing you seek
Or greatest ruin path will wreak."
Now son did seek to answer dame
That honor great he still yet claimed

But sudden men to place then came
This news on head of lord they deigned.
The Joyous Gard his greatest keep
Did Mordred's forces current seek

So man then rose from seat he claimed
To battle great and wrack to rain
On head of men who dared attacked
His realm or holds he held to sack
