"he's not someone you would expect to be a killer. he's a teenager. i heard his name. na jaemin."

an image of jaemin's face appeared on the screen, making the whole class connect the dots slowly.

"effectively, na jaemin is a nineteen-year-old boy, living alone near guryong village. he is the one responsible for the many deaths of..."

it took a few seconds for all the students to register what was happening, and they soon all turned around to look at jaemin.

"huh..." jaemin looked at all of them nervously, slowly turning his head to meet mina's confused eyes.

"j-jaemin...? this cannot be true..." she asked, trying to reassure herself.

"the police are on their way to get him and imprison him. thank you very much for listening. we wish you a pleasant day."

with that last sentence of the journalist, jaemin realised how much he was in the shit.

the boy jumped from his seat, running to the door and crossing the hallways at lightning speed. he got to the school's entrance in a record time, but stopped in his tracks when he noticed all the police cars that were parked in front of the school.

"the windows of the labs!" donghyuck exclaimed.

jaemin nodded, bolting towards the labs' aisle. he kicked one of the doors open, running across the room while ignoring the panic screams of the students that were in.

he opened a window, getting out of the school the quicker possible.

"donghyuck, what do we do?!" he asked, never stopping to run.

"to your house!"

"we can't! the police will be there!"

"fuck."

"we have to run away, donghyuck. that's the only way!"

donghyuck nodded, looking around for a few seconds.

"follow me!"

jaemin ran behind the demon, frowning in confusion when donghyuck forced open the door of a car.

"what are you doing?" he asked.

"climb on!" donghyuck exclaimed, getting in the driver's seat.

jaemin hurried to do so when he heard the sirens of the police approaching.

"what the hell you don't even have the keys!"

donghyuck placed his palm over the dashboard, closing his eyes as jaemin looked at him weirdly.

"huh... what are you trying to- "

the engine roared, meaning that donghyuck had succeeded.

"let's go..." he smirked placing his hands on the wheel.

"do you even know how to drive?"

"of course, i do."

and with that said, donghyuck pushed the pedals, making the car roll away at a speed that almost made jaemin sick.

he slalomed around the different blocks, trying to dodge any police cars.

jaemin cursed a lot, groaning each time donghyuck would take an abrupt turn and make him hit his head against the window or the dashboard.

"huh... donghyuck." jaemin said as they were rolling on a long and empty avenue after a dozen of minutes of driving madly around the city. "there's a police car behind us."

donghyuck looked in the rear mirror.

"this isn't possible. we're too far from school for them to know it's us." he declared, accelerating even more.

"i'm sure they don't believe that i am the one they're looking for. but i know they're following us because you're not respecting the speed limitations!" jaemin exclaimed, seeing the speed indicator going up and up.

"watch that." donghyuck said.

jaemin looked into the rear mirror as the demon next to him snapped his fingers.

magically, the road broke in half, creating a huge aperture in which the police car got swallowed before the road became normal again.

"what the hell did you do?!" jaemin exclaimed.

"simple demon skills." donghyuck replied. "controlling the ground."

"are they dead?!"

"surely." donghyuck shrugged. "but it's not like it would be the first persons you killed."

"that's not funny." jaemin glared at the boy.

"demon don't have a good sense of humour." donghyuck replied, making jaemin sigh.

a comfortable silence took place, the only sound heard being the roaring of the engine of the car.

however, donghyuck broke it after a minute.

"so... here we go... running away..." he stated.

"yeah... running away..."

"hey... jaemin..." donghyuck's beautiful voice disturbed jaemin in his sleep. "wake up..."

the human slowly opened his eyes, groaning.

his neck felt sore.

he had slept in a bad position.

"what is it?" jaemin asked, rubbing his eyes.

"we did it." donghyuck replied. "we're far from them."

jaemin looked through the windshield of the car, gasping at the sight in front of him.

they were surrounded by mountains, trees, and just... nature.

the panorama was absolutely stunning.

"where are we?" he asked, looking at the rear mirror only to be greeted with a similar view.

"taebaek mountains." donghyuck said. "on the east coast of korea. behind them is the sea of japan."

jaemin nodded examining his surroundings.

everything felt peaceful.

too peaceful.

he could hear birds chirping.

he could hear the wind blowing in the trees.

but no human nuisance was appearing.

"are we safe here?" jaemin asked.

"from humans? yes." donghyuck nodded. "no policeman will look for us there. and humans rarely come there."

jaemin furrowed his brows.

donghyuck's answer hadn't been convincing.

"what does that mean?" jaemin questioned.

"what?"

"that we're safe from humans." jaemin repeated. "does that mean that we aren't safe from something else?"

"well..."

donghyuck lowered his head, fidgeting with his fingers as jaemin's brows furrowed.

"what does that mean, donghyuck?"

"taebaek mountains are the repair of south korean demons." he explained. "there's no human activity there, so that's where we live until we are assigned a human. and we can come back if our human rejects us."

jaemin stayed silent while processing everything donghyuck was telling him.

so, they had gone far enough to be away from human problems, but now, they would need to face demon problems?

demons that jaemin wouldn't even be able to see!

"donghyuck i am in danger here." jaemin looked at the demon in the eye.

"i know. i hesitated a lot before driving us there."

"so why did you?!" jaemin asked, his voice shaky.

"this is the safest place for you!" he repeated. "and... this way i'll be able to keep my promise..."

"what promise?" jaemin's brows furrowed in confusion.

"the promise that i'll help you find and kill the demon that caused your parents' death."
