Chapter 9

Another cotton pad which was fully soaked red in color was thrown away. The floor was filled with cotton pads and tissues that had blood stains. Leila reached the first aid kit for another packet of cotton pad.

"Looks like it had gotten worse."

She rolled her eyes as she ripped the package open, "I clearly remember telling you to knock the door before coming in. As you can see I'm undressed, Aaron."

She definitely did not care about his presence since she was used to it but she still wanted to teach him manners. Aaron laughed and folded his arms as he leaned his back against the wall. He watched her struggling to clean off the blood off her back.

"Need help?"

He did not wait for her to respond and just grabbed her cotton pad. He helped her treat the wounds on her back. Leila sighed and searched for her painkillers on the bed.

"Looks like he even found the watch shop."

She drank her medicine and nodded.

A smirk formed on Aaron's face, "Interesting."

"He sure is."

"But you should stop getting too attached to him."

She paused what she was doing and looked at the blood in her hands. She glanced at Aaron through her broken mirror with a blank expression.

"I don't think you can tell me what to do," her eyes turned cold and dark. Aaron noticed her expression changed and he knew what she meant. She looked at him and smiled, "He's someone fun to be with. Definitely someone interesting indeed."

Aaron shook his head in disappointment and snapped his fingers. A piece of paper appeared in his hand and he placed it in front of her.

"It's not like you have a choice. I'm not saying this for me. We had meeting today, Leila. They knew about it."

Leila picked up the paper and noticed the first thing she noticed was the word in bold, 'Sinner' Her face fell as she read the rest of the letter. She crumbled the end of the paper that she was holding and knew she did not have much of a choice. If she continued, she might end up hurting both.

"Fine..."

It had been two weeks since Lucas last saw Leila. As days passed by, he became more and more restless. He ended up making more mistakes and spent most of his time writing reports. His thoughts were not working properly and he could not concentrate on his duty.

He started to worry that he might never get to see her again. He knew he was being impatient and selfish but he did not realize his feelings for her yet. He was still unsure why he was feeling that way.

"This is the fifth time today, Sir. Is something wrong?" Louis asked as he passed the report papers to Lucas.

He did not reply. He just shook his head to indicate that nothing was wrong. Although it was pretty obvious that he was behaving strangely these days, Louis let him have his personal space. After all, they were just team members working together.

The moment Louis left his office; Lucas dumped the papers on the table and groaned. He squeezed his nose bridge to ease his stress. Letting out a deep sigh, he took out his pen to begin writing his report. He could not think properly. He started wondering many things, 'Did something happen to her? Or did I do something wrong?'

He wrote his report but he couldn't stop thinking. As he wrote, he started thinking about Leila even more. He bit his lips to remain focused on his report. He pressed the pencil down too hard that the lead broke. What is wrong with me? He glanced at his watch. Why am I behaving this way?

He only managed to complete his report papers at night. He had to stop by at Aaron's office to pass him his papers. The night was lovely as usual but his heart was not. He could not bear to look at the view as he would start thinking about her again.

He remained composed as he walked down the hallway but his heart started to thump loudly as he walked past her office. He just wanted to take a look at her to make sure that she was doing fine. That was all he wanted or so he thought. He knew he wanted more than that. It started to become more than just curiosity.

He glanced at the office once again and hesitated. It was wrong but it felt right. His hands reached out to turn the door knob.

"Don't do it."

Aaron appeared before him and glanced at the papers he was holding. Lucas swallowed his saliva thickly as he got caught. "Those are for me right?" He pointed at the papers.

Lucas nodded and passed them to him. He did not know what to do. He just remained silent.

"You know how much trouble that would have brought you," Aaron told him sternly. Lucas obviously knew. He knew more than anyone. But he didn't know why did it feel right?

"Both of you are the same," Aaron added.

Lucas glanced up at him for the first time. He stared at him blankly as he did not understand what he meant.

"It's a sad world, Lucas." Aaron scanned through his report papers and gave him quick glances, "It is better to be safe than sorry."

Aaron filed the papers and headed to the opposite direction to leave.

"What about you?"

Aaron paused in his steps and turned around.

"You get to enter her room as much as you want. Why is that?"

Lucas knew. He had always been observing her with an aim to learn anything new about Leila Song whenever he had the chance. He knew that Aaron was the only person who had the direct access to her. He never liked that fact but he could not do anything about it.

"Why?" Aaron repeated his question. He leaned his back against the wall nonchalantly and shrugged his shoulders. "Why do you think?"

Lucas did not have an answer to that question. Out of all the Heads, why was it Aaron?

"It was not a choice. It was fate. Something unexplainable," Aaron explained, sounding rather thrilled with an intention to mock him.

Something unexplainable? Lucas did not like the sound of that. He knew Aaron was hiding something but he could not figure out what it was. The two had never gotten along since Day 1 but they knew exactly what each other meant. The tone. The words. The look.

"You had always been curious about her so you would know what it takes to interact with her," he added. His look turned serious as he walked towards him. "Don't you?"

It would be impossible for one to actually enter Leila's room unless he had been granted permission. Unless there was something between them that no one could surpass. Unless Leila had chosen him.

"Exactly what you are thinking of."

Aaron put his hands in his pocket and leaned in towards Lucas. It was as if he wanted to warn him to stay away from him.

"But why did she choose to meet me then?" Lucas questioned.

"If you are talking about that watch, it was because you seemed interesting but soon she will become bored. I'm telling you. Let her go before you get hurt."

Lies. He did not want to believe in him but he sounded so serious. He knew she was not that type of person but he had only seen her for like two days or so. Could he really tell what type of person she was? He clenched his fists and looked down. Why was it that a part of him started to believe in his words?

Am I really just being played around?
