Chapter 22

Aaron stood in front of Lucas with a glowing pendant in his hand. It was the one he received from Leila. He pressed the button at the side which offed the light and kept his pendant in his pocket.

"Human objects are really interesting, especially with Leila's power infused."

The moment Lucas heard her name, he wanted to know her condition. He just wanted her to be safe. He had his doubts ever since the fight stopped. He just hoped for the better.

"Your ring from Ryan is really something. No one would have been able to find you."

Lucas knew that it was because of the ring that he had not been caught. Only him. He just stared at Aaron without saying anything. He observed his face and noticed the bruises on his face. He knew something had happened but just quietly waited for him to say something or anything about the situation of Leila and Alex. Aaron noticed that he was thinking about her.

"They were taken away by the Heads and are now locked in a cage," he told Lucas which pricked his attention.

Lucas looked down in disbelief. They had been caught which meant that she is definitely not safe. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

"What should i do?"

He hated himself for not being a man of his words. He was to never leave without her. He said that but he could not even protect her.

Aaron pointed his gun at him and shrugged. He still had to do his duty. If not, more trouble would be created. Although he knew Lucas was broken, he didn't have a choice. Lucas closed his eyes and just waited to take his punishment even if it was death. He knew he had lost her. He could not do anything. He did not deserve to live.

••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••

Aaron pulled his trigger and a loud gun shot was sounded. Lucas flinched as he got shot but what was surprising was that he was not dead. He was only shot in the leg. It was definitely painful but he was too shocked for to feel anything.

"Your punishment for skipping your duty and escaping from the Heads is the loss of your leg."

He noticed the puzzled look on Lucas's face and sighed.

"Interacting with a sinner was not included," he added which made Lucas even more confused.

"What do you mean by that?" Lucas asked him in a confused tone.

Aaron cleared his throat and walked towards the table to place his gun. "She was known as a sinner for murdering a Guardian before so you were labeled as a victim for now. That's what the Heads took it as," he explained to him as he pulled the drawer and took out the first aid kit. He knelt down beside him and pulled the pants up to reveal his injured leg. He stopped the bleeding using the cotton pad available.

"So, you mean I caused Leila into trouble? All this happened because of me?!"

Lucas could not believe it. He was the main cause of this problem the entire time. If only, he had listened to Leila and left. Then, this wouldn't happen.

He placed his hand over his eyes as he sobbed quietly. Aaron just treated his wound by rubbing ointment and finished it off by putting bandage over it without saying anything.

"You should just kill me."

"Stop being so weak."

Lucas glanced up at Aaron as he said that.

"What other choice do I have?"

He had definitely given up on everything. Aaron knew how he felt. After all, he would feel the same if he was in his shoes. But now was not the time. He sighed and shook his head.

"I don't know about you but I do not wish to see Leila having another case and let them do whatever they want. I'm pretty sure they won't let her off easily this time."

"Another case?"

"That's exactly the difference I told you." He told him as he leaned against the wall.

Lucas realised that Leila must have left something out. Lucas was disappointed that he was not told everything but he knew there must be a reason behind it.

"Tyler never died."

Aaron was serious when he said that. There was anger and regret mixed in his voice. Lucas did not really understand and looked at him in disbelief. He clearly remembered Leila saying that she stabbed him and he knew that angels could not lie. He squeezed his eyebrows together to gather his thoughts. He wanted to know where he got it wrong.

"I know you won't get it since angels can't lie. She just didn't tell you the whole story. In order to protect someone pathetic."

Aaron knew that Lucas was confused by every word he just said but he had already decided to tell him everything. If not, nothing will proceed. He aligned his sentences so that the words would come out smoothly. After all, it was the first time he was speaking of that incident after 9 years.

He started once he received undivided attention from Lucas.

"Tyler was stabbed by Leila but only in the arm."

Lucas was shocked to hear that but then he didn't get something.

"Then why was she charged for murder?"

"Tyler did not die as a person but died as an existence," Aaron paused in between as he glanced at Lucas, "His body was never found and Leila stored away everything that belonged to him in her room with the little time she had. When the Galaxians arrived, there was only Leila with the blood stain of Tyler on her sword and the floor."

Lucas tried to put the pieces together. There were still missing pieces. He still did not understand the entire story. "So you mean she let him escape?"

Aaron nodded as an answer and continued, "She gave him a new name and created a new path for him."

Aaron continued without a pause. "If he was caught trying to kill an angel for her wings to escape to the human world, he would be executed."

"And what happened? She was held at the court for actually saving him? That's so ridiculous!"

Aaron bit his lower lip and looked down. "I know," he mumbled. He knew everything but he could not say it out loud. One because he was asked by Leila not to. Two because he didn't know if he should. Three because he was scared. He breathed in slowly to take his time and energy to continue.

After running away the entire time, he decided to stop and let it all out.

"I know but I was pathetic at that time. All I could do was watch her wings tore apart."

Aaron was never good at managing his anger. He could feel his nerves wrecking and he just wanted to punch something. He clenched his hand into a fist and punched the wall behind him to vent out his anger.

"She still saved me despite what I did to her. And yet all I could do was to watch her suffer."

Lucas listened to him confusingly but he took in every single word he said. He remembered Leila saying that Aaron was able to perform Night duties.

According to Aaron, Tyler was stabbed only in the arm and managed to escape as he was given a new name. A new name. Same person with different name. All the pieces of puzzle started to form together. He finally saw the whole picture.

"Aaron, are you Tyler?"

Aaron's lips immediately quirked up as soon as he heard the question.

"So you got it."

He straightened himself and placed his hand on the chest in a formal greeting position.

"I am Tyler Hexan, the former Guardian of the Night," he introduced himself formally.

"I don't know about you but I'm not going to make the same mistake. I'll protect her even if I have to give up my life," he added.

Lucas still could not believe that Aaron was Tyler but it all made sense. The reason why Leila allowed him to interact with her was because he knew everything.

He never liked Aaron and obviously hated Tyler after hearing the story. But he felt different after knowing that Aaron was Tyler. Aaron had always been beside Leila to protect her. He felt that there was regret and sorrow in his eyes and he knew that he really meant what he said. However, he still felt like there was something missing.

"Is that really all to it?" Lucas asked.

Aaron stared at Lucas blankly and let out a chuckle.

"I will never win you too, will I?"

Lucas raised his eyebrow as he waited for Aaron to continue. Aaron let out a sigh and nodded his head.

"The Heads forced me to kill her. They would have gotten either me or someone else to do it. It was true that I did want her wings but I would not go to that extent. I never befriended her because of such reasons."

"But why would they do that?"

"Leila is an angel and angels are far superior in everything so the Heads feared that the people would end up looking up to her instead of them. That's why they wished to make her appear as a threat and planned to have her killed in any possible way."

"What?!"

Aaron nodded, "That's why I do not plan to let them have their way. I'll risk my entire life for her. What about you?"

"It's obviously the same for me. I can't let you take all the credit," Lucas told him as he pushed himself up from the floor and stood up straight although there was a sharp pain in his leg.

"That's more like it."

For the first time, Aaron and Lucas were cooperating with each other.

••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••

"Well, we can't just barge into them. There will be thousands of Galaxians at the court and also it's the Heads we are facing. So, we are going to need more backup," Aaron suggested.

Lucas knew exactly what he was talking about but backup? He wondered who in the right mind would actually join them in fighting against their own kind?

Just as Aaron was about to speak, a man squeaked from outside, "Is this man dead?!"

The voice sounded familiar to Lucas.

"He seems pretty dead to me." Another voice was heard.

Right. Them.

Lucas looked at Aaron with his eyebrow raised when Jacob and Ryan barged into the room.

"Don't look at me. They wanted to join."

"But what was that about the dead man?"

Aaron glanced over at the Galaxian who was lying on the ground and shrugged his shoulders as if it was nothing.

"I just knocked him off since he was about to go into your room. Don't worry. I made sure everything was gone unnoticed."

"My baby!! What happened to your leg?!" Jacob squealed at the top of his voice.

"Glad to see you in one piece, Lucas," Ryan smiled.

Lucas made a face at them and diverted all his attention to Aaron. He got serious and asked him the most important question.

"So, what's the plan?"
